About time we made a thread for this! Now that the Corn Ui Mhuiri is finished just Dylan Geaney and Cathal O'Beaglaoich will still be involved in the school senior football competitions. I heard they played a challenge game recently against Sliabh Luachra. Is the panel more or less finalised?

New format for this year sees Limerick, Clare, Waterford and Tipperary play a round robin competition in April in phase 1 of the competition. Phase 2 sees the winner of phase 1 join Cork and Kerry in a phase 2 round robin in May with the top 2 meeting in the Munster final on June 22nd. Kerry meet Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn on May 7th in the first game of phase 2. Format gives every team a good few games and should avoid the awful SF trap door that has seen good Cork teams dumped out early.

Limerick football is pants at the moment. Was it ever good before the 2000s? Kerry lost the 1990 Munster final by 15 points so things didnt look promising in 1991. Kerry shocked Cork in Killarney in the semu final in a tough tense battle with a goal from John Cronin of Waterville the decisive moment. The Munster final in Killarney v Limerick was a close run thing. Jacko was at 14 i think and Pat Spillane also played. Limerick put up a heroic fight and lost by a few points. I got to know one of the Limerick players well in recent years and he still regrets a few mistakes he made that day. The Munster final was the QF in reality and the loser went out. Kerry lost to Down in the semifinal and they won the final v Meath... a Meath team that stole the summer after their four games v Dublin in round 1 of the Leinster championship. In 1992 Kerry again beat Cork but Clare beat them in the Munster final in Limerick. That was the first time i heard the Clare shout!

John OKeeffe was the Limerick manager in 1991 and did a fabulous job in preparing them for that final. High scoring game if I can remember correctly and Kerry always had a little bit over Limerick during the game. Always felt Kerry were going to win it. This above post is a blast from the past that was buried in memory. Watched it under the shadow of St. Finians on the terrace that day. Hot dry Sunday in Killarney. Summer football.

You won’t be far off nacrocaigh. I think O’ Beaglaoich is lining out at midfield for the side. James Darmody of rathmore could break into the forward line also. Na Gaeil could be the club with the most starters this year having 5 in with the panel I’d expect Devon Burns to start in goals Oisin Maunsell to be corner back and Tomas hanifin to be at wing back. Alan Dineen will be full back I saw him play during the week for his club inside in Tralee and he looks to be a strong young lad with plenty of football. Nailed on starters in my opinion would be Burns in goal, Dineen at full back, Linehan at midfield O Connor at Centre forward , Geaney at full forward and Hassett in the corner the rest would up for grabs and may go to whoever is going well in training. Hopefully another long year ahead for the minors and first objective would be to get to a Munster final and hopefully go on to win it and take it from there.

Did they change the structure this year to give the losing provincial semi finalist a second bite The four "weaker" counties in Munster play each other in Phase 1 in a mini-league . The top two teams meet in the Phase 1 Final on May 7th with the winner progressing to Phase 2. Phase 2 is another mini-league of three teams. Kerry play Cork in Pairc ui Rinn on May 7th in Phase 2 The losers of Cork v Kerry play the the Phase 1 winners on 15th May The Winners of Cork v Kerry play the Phase 1 winners on 23rd May. The top two teams of Phase 2 play in the Munster Final on 22nd June. So essentially there are no quarter or semi Finals. All of the weaker counties get to play three games and one of the get to play at least five games. The two stronger counties get to play at least two matches. The two teams that make the Munster Final are both guaranteed All Ireland Quarter Final slots.

Limerick football is pants at the moment. Was it ever good before the 2000s? Football's on the floor in Limerick, and the arrival of Liam McCarthy last year might, if it's even possible, send it under the floor. At underage there's huge numbers playing football, but by mid teen, football falls back to fourth behind hurling, rugby and soccer. Senior club matches are best described as Ulster style defencive stuff, I've no doubt Beaufort would beat any senior club team here. External manager and quality backroom team for the intercounty senior team is a must, but again not so sure the county board are all that interested. I spoke with people who are football people here in Limerick early in the week and asked if they would go along to last night's minor match, they didn't even know it was on! Where do you go from there.

Great game of football tonight in Killarney where Legion hosted na gaeil in the division 1 semi final the final score was legion 4:8 na gaeil 2:13.
There were plenty of minors on show in tonight’s game from both this year and last year with na gaeil having 5 on this years panel but were without Oisin maunsell due to injury and he proved to be a big loss while legion had two current Kerry minors and Darragh Lyne who was midfield for last years all Ireland winning team although he wasn’t as influential as I expected him to be..
Na gaeil performed well above expectation tonight and were fantastic for the most part. Na gaeil played with a gale force wind in the first half but legion defended well. The game started at a frantic pace and from the throw in a mix up occurred between the na gaeil back line and goalkeeper leading to a goal slotted home by Eoin o Sullivan leaving the Tralee side trailing by a goal early on. Na gaeil kept the score board ticking over with pointed frees from Matthew Burke and a great solo score from tadgh lynch who played well on the night. Soon after came another hammer blow with another well worked goal from the Killarney side leaving the score 2:1 to 6 points. Soon after Darragh Reen got in for a well worked goal for the Tralee side leaving the score 1:7 to 2:2. The last score of the half came from the boot of Devon Burns the na gaeil keeper it was a free from close to 50 yards out which seemed to settle the nerves of the young keeper after his earlier mistake this meant the score at half time was na gaeil 1:8 legion 2:2. The ref blew the whistle for the 2nd half to begin and that is where the game burst into life. Legion put na gaeil under all sorts of pressure but even with the massive wind at their back they struggled to create scoring opprtunites with na gaeil defending brilliantly. Na gaeil went with an all out running game in this half and started to pull away with scores from full forward Matthew Burke again and Darragh reen keeping the score board ticking over. Legion aimed most of their kick outs at lyne but na gaeil counter acted this by simply breaking the ball and fighting like dogs to win those breaks. Before we knew it na gaeil had opened up an 8 point lead through a second goal from Kerry minor jack Sheehan after a great run in from the end line and super finish leaving the score 2:12 to 2:4. As soon as na gaeil opened up this lead they seemed to begin to panic as if they were not expecting it and Legion began to claw there way back showing great character.
The game turned when legion got in for a 3rd goal finding gaps in the na gaeil defense. This seemed to turn the tide and the momentum completely as legion were truly fired up and had the wind in their sails. Lyne began to grow into the game along with this years kerry minor panelist Ryan o Grady who had a difficult night trying to find space in the na gaeil backline and missing a few tough frees. The final 10 minutes of this game were fantastic to watch as legion tagged on scores through O Grady and Lyne. Then another crushing blow to na gaeils hopes of holding on came through the boot of the legion corner forward as he ran in through the back of na gaeils defense to beat burns at his near post leaving to score 2:12 na gaeil to 4:6 Legion.Na gaeil fighting for their lives to hold on in the end but legion kicked yet another point with the wind at their back and it looked like it was all over until Reen kicked a score in the first minute of injury time to draw the game yet again and it was almost certain to be a draw.... Legion then won a free almost 50 yards out and the talk was could O Grady do what burns done in the first half with the wind at his back but the drama heightened as he narrowly missed.. The ref gave time for one more attack and from Burns kickout legion won the breaking ball. Somehow the ball fell to O Grady’s hands and he took on his man 3 minutes into injury time and showing outstanding character and ability after a tough night and having just missed the free before hand kicked the winner off his left foot to secure legions place in the minor division 1 final
Legion will face the winners of rathmore and laune rangers who play their semi final this Sunday in kilorglin.

Any of them any good? Enda O Connor lined out at half back for na gaeil and played very well catching a lot of kick outs and breaking up a lot of the legion attacks. Cian o Leary was corner back for legion and also done very well he had a tough enough night man marking Darragh Reen but as the game went on he cane more and more into it and really got to grips with the na gaeil forward. Cian Devine struggled to get into the game tonight as it was played at such a frantic pace it seemed to pass him by but he is also a good player who normally puts in a good performance for na gaeil. I don’t remember seeing Ethan O’Neill last night but Jack McCarthy was at wing forward and won a lot of ball that went his way and created a few scores with the ball he had during the game. Legion also had a very good corner forward who helped O Grady out and was a brilliant outlet for their players out the field and was well capable of kicking a sore I’m not too sure of his name I think it was William Shine... Do you know anything about this young lad nacrocaigh or is that even his name? Both teams seemed to be evenly matched last night which surprised me quite a bit as I thought legion would be of a much higher standard than na gaeil at the moment.. Although when legion started to play they were brilliant going forward and picked off the na gaeil defense. Maybe they had an off night and na gaeil played very well but either way na gaeil will be kicking themselves after blowing an 8 point lead and not making another division 1 final

Fantastic minor final last Friday. Laune Rangers will feel very unlucky having hit the upright twice and the underside of the crossbar with literally the last kick of the game when trailing by 0-13 to 0-11. The starting Legion team had 4 under 16's, goalkeeper Aaron O'Sullivan who's been in terrific form this season having played soccer with the Kerry league of Ireland under 15 team last year; Wing forward Darragh Fleming, corner forward William Shine & wing back Jamie Alade, all of whom are still involved with the development squads as far as I know. There were also 4 under 17's, three of which were with the development squads at the beginning of the year, corner back Cian O'Leary, half forward Eoghan O'Sullivan, one of the most natural footballers I've seen over the years (moved out to midfield for the second half) & corner forward Ryan O'Grady. Legion had two 2018 Kerry minors, midfielder Darragh Lyne who was carrying a shoulder injury and full back Kieran O'Donoghue, who had an epic battle against the brilliant Gearoid Hassett. Wing back Peter O'Sullivan, centre back Evan Smith & midfielder Brian Owkute also caught the eye on the night.

Yeah Rangers will be kicking themselves that they left this one go They had 4 great goal chances and didn’t take any of them - 2 hitting the post and one off the cross bar. I thought Matt Reinstierna, Rory O’Connor, Eoin Clifford, Gabriel Griffin, Gearoid Hassett and Shane Doona all played well for them and for Legion Lyne and Owkute at midfield got the better of David Mangan and Roan Moriarty and William Shine and Ryan O’Grady were excellent in attack. 3 or 4 of the Rangers lads ran out of legs in the last 20 mins and Rangers obviously thought they didn’t have the bench to replace them where as Legion made the changes. Rangers had to introduce 15 year old Eoghan Hassett (just out of U-14) for the last 15 mins? Legion were very well organized and had a better work rate than their opponents and this got them over the line. Darragh Lyne was correctly awarded MOTM for an excellent 2nd half performance.

Gearoid Hassett was immense and young Eoghan is another quality player in the making. The Legion keeper, Aaron O'Sullivan, did very well and is still only 15 I believe. To be fair there was nothing between 5 of the 6 teams in this league and hopefully we'll see them play on their own in the county championship.

Sounds like a great competition for the clubs and its good that so many players get to play.
Is Gearoid related to Mike.

"sounds like a great competition for the clubs and its good that so many players get to play. “
The County Minor League , in existence for decades, sounds like a great competition !— profound analysis ! .
As for the clubs, would suggest that Legion and Rathmore are well able to play on their own in the Championship this year

This year's division 1 league has been particularly close for the majority of the teams. I can't see any reason why any of the six won't go it alone in the championship. I know Firies, Gneeveguila, an Ghaeltacht & Kenmare from division 2 have also been very close in standard to the division 1 teams in recent times and all are capable of winning on the day.
