I think Tyrone will be a massive threat in 2025. I expect massive improvement from them I agree, Yet to see a poor Malachy O'Rourke team. I can't see them being a threat personally. They've barely won a championship game in 3 years and been on the wrong end of a few hammerings. O'Rourke is a good manager and he'll improve them but I can't see them threatening for any trophies. A couple of their more important players are getting old like Harte and Donnelly. They have a few top forwards but they are all similar and they can't all play in the same team. They'll do well to stay in D1.

I would think Tyrone have as much a chance as Kerry about 4th or 5th in the pecking order.

They have 2 of the best forwards in the game and the best keeper in Ireland. They have completely underperformed since winning the All Ireland. They also have players from 2 back to back all ireland under 20s. I can see why Malachy choose Tyrone.

Royal, playing devil's advocate, what have we done in last two years to ensure our top 4 or five rating. Are Arnagh a flash in the pan? I'd have Dublin ahead of us, I think Donegal and Tyrone with their underage success coupled with returning stars ahead of us. We have stagnated.. we'll have the same panel as last year, bar shuffling and a fit again Dylan and Graham.. grim reading but that's where I think we are.. the ship jumping by all the backroom staff is my primary concern

There is very little between the top teams but Donegal and Tyrone have not performed at Kerrys level consistently. Armagh are a well coached very fit team but I still think Kerry are a better football team. Dublin were like ourselves last year well below par.

With a guy like Malachy O’Rourke in charge I would expect them to improve significantly on last couple of seasons.

That Tyrone u20 team were very lucky to beat Derry in the Ulster final on pens, we kicked that game away and I won't be relying on any of our lads to make an impact on senior team next year. It's big step up from u20 to senior unless you are an exceptional talent like Clifford or O'Shea. I'd have them 4th in Ulster just ahead of Monaghan.

I don’t care if you kicked away chances in a tight Ulster final, doesn’t change the fact that’s a very strong Tyrone team. That was my point. McElholm looks like a serious talent ready to step up to Senior already. Derry underage teams have been very strong last couple of years aswell of course which should help your chances in the medium term. But on my wider point, we’ll see. You can say Tyrone are 4th in Ulster if you want but even when not going great last year they took Donegal to extra time and possibly should have won. But we’ll see how they fare in 2025.

Who gives a damm with regard to hypothetical rankings - there is only one measure each year. Either Sam is wintering with us or not. All the other consolation prizes are insignificant - all stars, perceived rankings, even the league or provincial honours. Let others worry about the consolation stakes, every year begins in Kerry with the expectation that we can challenge for and ultimately win the big one - the only measure that counts.

I would agree with the above posters re Tally. Looks like it is between him and Philly McMahon for the job. Philly McMahon? Jeez that would be some car crash I’ve met a good few footballers over the years and he is at the opposite end to the intelligent, thoughtful guys. They should go for Ger Brennan if they want a dub Philly 😂😂 Ger Brennan has done very nicely with Louth. Strikes me as a good candidate for the Dublin gig when there is an opening. He also has surrounded himself with good experienced selectors, a great sign.

On Kerry’s ambition for 2025, Kerry are lacking massive depths in midfield after the loss of Jack Barry and David Moran. Jack Barry’s club mate and general mate young Hanafin, would be a perfect replacement as he’s learned his trade directly from him due to past club experiences. Same can be said for Diarmo Connor. Especially since the news just broken off Fenton hanging up the boots Kerry need to avail of this opportunity and drive on from the midfield towards Sam maguire it’s been too long for a great county like us!!! Any thoughts lads?

Also hard to have the best midfielders when 3 potential midfielders get signed by Geelong, David Moran also went to Oz back in the day when Tommy Walsh left but it didn't work out. Fenton retirement will be a big blow for Dublin, definitely brings them closer to the pack when you consider McCarthys retirement also. I would be surprised if we don't see 1 of Cluxton & Fitzsimmons retire with him. Kerry still have the best panel in the country I think, whether they play the best football is a different situation. I think Tyrone will have a top 3 panel also when you factor the U20s coming through (Fellas like Eoin McElholm) as well as fellas coming back to the panel like Mark Bradley, but like Kerry, whether they play the football like a top 3 team or not is a different story.

I’ll leave ranking where Kerry currently stands to those with a stronger imagination than mine. From this juncture, one would want quite a bit of imagination to suggest this current Kerry panel are now stronger since our last All Ireland win in 2022. Too much talent and hard-won experience has exited stage left and not been replaced, and the limitations of an average Kerry panel overall by past standards remains. I wouldn’t hang any hope on Dublin regressing to allow more opportunities for Kerry either in what looks like an increasingly democratic field of challengers ahead. We’ve managed to win two All Ireland’s in the past 15 seasons, and we’ll do well to land another All Ireland within this remaining decade on the proviso more top-class talent arrives to support what is already there. No guarantees.

No guarantees. Dublin have regressed in my opinion. Lucky to get a draw last year with Mayo and went out against Galway who were carrying so many injured players. Now they've lost their best 2 players with more to follow. Louth are 16/1 for Leinster.

I'm going to be positive for 2025.
- Midfield to be better than 2024 with Joe O'connor a year under his belt. - Dylan Geaney looks a real forward. - DC to return to form. - New Rules will really help us.
I think we've a very good chance.

Also rumours of Mannion, John Small and McCaffrey dropping off the panel. If even one of those does I wouldn’t see Dublin even as a top 6 team.

Could be just rumours though.Dubs will still be a threat regardless.James McCarthy was one of the all time greats but age had caught up with him.Cluxton is not the keeper he was either and would nt be a loss at this stage either. In fact only for Fenton the last couple of years Cluxton would have struggled.Last year v Meath with Fenton missing Cluxton had a poor game. Fenton is a massive loss as he still the best midfielder in the country imo. However in defence Dubs have David Byrne back and Eoghan O Donnell is a hige asset to them.I ve seen him play club football and he is a handful. Dublin def wont be as strong without Fenton but are still a top contender.

Scully and Howard are 50/50. Kilkenny by all accounts is staying. As for Cluxton I'd say it's anyone's guess... I don't know is there much faith in Dessie but i suppose the more that go, more will follow as if a player feels an All Ireland is beyond them, why would you go through the ringer for another Leinster Medal.. as an ex player said to me yesterday, finishing relatively early last two years has given players an insight to life outside football. Some are at the thirty mark with young families

I cannot recall a year that had no clear favourite as we have in 2025.
That's a brilliant position to be in.

I just checked Paddypower s odds.Fenton s retirement has dented Dublin s odds.Kerry were slight favourites for Sam last week. Now Kerry are strong favourites as the Dubs have gone out to 4/1 and Dubs are still second favourites.

I wouldnt think Kerry have the best panel in the country. I think they are the same level as Galway and Dublin and Armagh really.
We struggle to find a midfield pairing that can hold their own not to mind having genuine depth in the position. Based on the form shown last year our forwards arent exactly lighting it up. Tony Brosnan was the only one that played convincingly last year.

The more it opens the more open it will become as the chasing pack fancy their chances and you'd include the impact of the supporters contribution in that as the community get behind what is, well, a community sport.
I've said my bit re how we are set up and sure I suppose we have as good chance as anyone if we fire, well more spark really.
Dubs panel might fall off the cliff edge here though that their support never wavers will keep them competitive. It is a big change from doing so many in a row to trying to break your duck again. It will be interesting to see what their pipeline throws up.
Btw did anyone see that article about Marc O'Connor in some paper yesterday, he's home on holiday.
Ah best of luck to Burke, jazus he'll be a bigger loss than we'll ever know in that he was coming on in leaps and bounds.

Is Jack Barry not coming back or what's the story there does anyone know?
Looks like a mass exodus for Dublin, about time! And they should have been all speed along towards retirement by us in 2023 if we bloody finished the job we started!
