Some good reasons to bring Donaghy into the Kerry setup but the performance of the Armagh attack would not be the strongest of them.

Another day where Comer is nowhere to be seen. As for Shane Walsh have there been a more overhyped player in the last few years than him? We can hardly say much as we fumbled a game we had control of and couldn't make the final. Now is not the time to throw stones. Congratulations Armagh. The better team today but the game wasn't that great to watch as a neutral. Well the fact is Comer have now played in two All-Ireland finals and was completely out of the game.

Prior to Walsh’s cameo in the final in ‘22, he had underperformed in the quarter final vs Armagh & semi final vs Derry - he was tremendous for 45 mins vs Kerry - in reality he has not done much since. When the fat was in the fire today he, unfortunately, for him failed to deliver. I'll be honest before 2022 I can't actually remember him doing anything with Galway. He really let them down today with his kicking.

Definitely, would be crazy not to invite him into the setup. Not sure if he'd be the Bainisteoir, I'd have Donaghy as a sector/coach. Whether thats under Jack or a different management team, only time can tell. Considering our attack misfired, bringing Kieran home as a forwards coach wouldn't be the worst idea. Manager not yet. Why not as bainisteoir? Jack would rule the roost if he stays in charge, nobody in their right mind would join in his set up - a new broom, young blood, fresh ideas!

I think personally Donaghy would be better suited as a coach, developing game plans and tactics. Usually the manager doesn't do this side of the game, Jack wouldn't be doing the coaching in this current setup. I wouldn't think that McGeeney does coaching in his Armagh setup either.

I hope the Kerry players who lost to Armagh in the semi final watched that match today - and wept .
Talk about losing a soft All Ireland medal .
Some of them should now recognise their shortcomings and consider withdrawing from the panel . Todays result simply heaps injury upon insult . To lose they way they did to Armagh and to reflect upon the final outcome should be considered a personal insult . An insult to Ciarrai .
The optimists will argue we are not far away - taking the All Ireland champions to extra time but the Pessimists will say - same old story - when the pressure is applied we wilt .
What do the players think - or say ?
Or maybe - just maybe the talent is not there - and we should accept the fact .

First of all congratulations to Armagh. Well done.
Today was unusual in that I could watch, without any emotional involvement, an Ulster team play a team that had some very good natural attackers. In the first half there were 2 Galways, one that slowed it down and avoided any easy turnovers and exerted some control, the other a Galway that, true to their tradition, created some flowing attacks. I thought at half time they would be the team that would get the goal and win by a couple of points. In the second half Galway failed to get the flowing attacks going. I'm not sure why, watching on TV and even with Eamonn's absolutely excellent updates on off camera events, it was not clear why Galway changed.
The basic message was that if you are an attacking team then do that, attack. If you don't then the opposition has won before the ball is thrown in.

5 points up and cruising against them and if we played anyway to our potential we would have devoured that Galway team today too.
Another year fecked away, that's the overriding feeling tonight for me.
Long, long months ahead to brood on that.

Kerry over the last 4 years. 1 year All Ireland champions 2022 The other 3years beaten by All Ireland champions. 2021 Beaten by champions Tyrone in semi final after extra time by one point. 2022 Champions 2023 Beaten in final by champions Dublin by 2 points 2024 Beaten by champions Armagh in semi final after extra time by 2 points. Maybe things aint too bad. With the talent we have plus David Clifford we should be winning all of those - lost to Tyrone because we ignored how they play, lost to Dublin with a poor finishing 15 - players out of position ( Mike Breen midfield for example), lost to Armagh because we played with the handbrake on - 1-11 to 0-10 up & failed to push home our advantage.

Think people are getting a bit over excited about what Donaghy is contributing to the Armagh success. We don't know what he does as it's never really been spelled out. As from what I can make out from the papers is a positive guy to have around the place etc.
Can't see Jack having him in to be honest. Jack likes to the the boss; end of. Might be better for Donaghy to have a stint as the head man with the U20s or minors. Plus he might want to take a break.
It's been pretty full on with armagh the last few years etc.

Of course Jack would not have him - Jack is the main man & wants to stay in that position - we have a very talented bunch of players , some of whom will be past their best in 5 years - are they going to be happy with the present set up continuing? Kerry set up needs change - Donaghy would be a good starting position.

I enjoyed today’s final hugely. It was a mighty contest peppered with some fine point scoring and some great individual performances. Armagh’s defending was textbook quality.
Armagh were the better team on the day and are the worthy 2024 champions . My heart breaks for Padraig Joyce, ends up as bridesmaid for the second time in three years. It is no secret Galway have been emasculated all year due to injuries to some of their top drawer players . We will never know if Sean Kelly , Damien Comer and Shane Walsh had been at full tilt today what the outcome would have been. The magnanimous comment to make , in the context of an All-Ireland final, is that Armagh would still have won.
I am delighted for Jarlath Burns , as president. I saw a comment elsewhere that he was over exuberant at the end. For goodness sake , his county were just after wining only their second title and , above all, his son was part of that champion side. Well done Jarlath for exhibiting your match/county face rather than your game face. The latter is for robots. I also thought Jarlath spoke very well , embracing all who contribute at grass root level in making the final such a gigantic occasion.
Congratulations to Sean Hurson also . Applied the rules appropriately and with an even hand. As in general life, the least fussy , the least attention seeking people tend to be the most efficient. Would that the GAA engage Sean as a tutor to others masquerading as referees under the guise of dilettantes and shapers.
Finally, I am surprised at some of the negative comments I have heard and read about today’s contest. It set me thinking . Is the prevailing hostile narrative about football influencing people’s reaction to individual matches? Have we arrived at the stage where some people are reluctant to claim that they enjoyed a football match in case they are “mobbed” and ridiculed? I hope not but I wonder.
P.S. I echo what has been said here about the yearning for a return of KD. We are not being wise after the event because most of us lamented his departure. He has been one of the most inspiring figures in Kerry sport in my time. A warrior and a winner. I am not claiming any kudos for prescience when I wrote here , prior to the Armagh match , that his presence in their camp was my main worry. I say to the County Board , get him back forthwith. He has done his work in Armagh. If the Chief is not happy with that , then ask the Chief to imitate Elvis and leave the premises.

Veteran - you have absolutely nailed it with KD - he is an inspirational guy - whether with Stacks/Kerry or Warriors. Perhaps his greatest achievement was in uniting basketball in Tralee, getting a team in the super league & getting a benevolent sponsor on board - his contribution to this sport has been phenomenal. He needs to be on our sideline next year - The Bag needs to step up now & make the changes we need to start being winners again.

I'll put my 2 cents in, I didn't see the final fully as I was at a surprise birthday party, but from what i saw, I thought both teams looked nervous, probably with the weight of expectation on them. Congrats Armagh, worthy champions, beat Kerry and I won't complain with that. Hopefully we'll win next year. As for Donaghy, a now All Ireland winning coach, we need to bring him back home, whether it's under jack, or myself, or anyone, he should be in with Kerry. It'll save on milage for him at least 😅😅

The similarities between our defeat and today is incredible.
Armagh gave up lots of chances but they weren't falling to the main men.
Only 1 point from starting 6 inside forwards today, we are going to need to change this trend.

Yes, was looking at spread of scorers earlier. 4 of Armaghs starting 6 forwards did not score; a fifth got one point and a 6th got 3 points. Has an All Ireland ever been won with such a low return from 6 forwards? It does speak to the defensive solidity of Armagh of course and I think Galway forwards only scored 4 points from play - not unlike Kerry in the semi final, Galways shooting effeciency in the second half was simply shocking. Armagh can take great credit for that.
Congrats to Armagh and their fantastic supporters.

Lots of posters here kicking people when they are down. Simple truth about Walsh Comer today is they should not have started as they were not fit enough. PJ has to take responsibility for this. Imagine them coming on 15 minutes to go. Also Finerty going off upset their game plan. Galways injuries came home to roost eventually. I just hate people being wise after the event. I'm here in my local collecting bets because of my above points.

Congratulations to Armagh – the Spartans won! This was a well-deserved team victory, it wasn't about having a messiah player or depending on a few individuals, it truly was about the collective all pulling their weight and contributing, and Kiernan McGeeney deserves huge credit for his orchestration of this effort.
For the record, I’d love to see a day that Kieran Donaghy gets an opportunity to be the Kerry Bainisteoir when this position becomes available. This inspirational man is clearly destined to be a team leader. If anyone can create a truly collective spirit and re-connection with the Kerry football public, it’s STAR!

Great day for Ireland GAA. Armagh inspired victory. Never say die attitude great to see. Like DC for Kerry Walsh went missing for Galway, happens. To me anyway it clear that Kerry have exceptional talent, although this doubted by few here.
That indomitable spirit as a collective seems missing currently. Perhaps Donaghy passed a bit on to Armagh, self belief. This can move mountains at times helping to overcome some technical deficiency. Armagh are brave and it always good to see the team who scores goals victorious for me anyway. As gooch said a sucker punch and raises spirits on and off pitch. Kerry struggling a bit in that department. When I consider last few years truthfully not huge amount wrong but that cutting edge and collective spirit Armagh demonstrated is necessary in my opinion anyway to start bringing Sam home in same way Dubz did over last decade.
To wear the green and gold brings expectations be good to see the lads playing in future with a bit more joy less fear and showcase their talents to maximum. Congratulations Armagh commiserations Galway. Ciarrai Abu.

Galway were also guilty of ball-watching in this instance - assuming it was going dead You can call it an over simplification By Soupy Cambell caught Kerry Cold and was the reason Armagh beat us in other words he got no respect Same happened today V Galway His left handed squaring of the ball was top notch If you still believe he was trying to score that may be so but it’s irrelevant in the bigger picture Either way we contributed to the game winner score as he did against Kerry Galway will regret the missed chances In particular Liam Silks refusal to take the 14 yard tap over instead Passing backwards to Shane Walsh who kicked wide from close range. Small margins but fortune favors the brave

It's a fixable issue but I wonder if it's worked on enough. Silke had a perfect opportunity to tap over off the left, and turned it down! 7 points out of 16 second half efforts won't do in the AI Final

Firstly well done to Armagh and they built well on what was a team full of promise against us in ASP last year. Bar a bit of 'all behind the ball' they are decent footballers and there will be entertaining days ahead - it will be interesting to see if they have a pipeline in place to raise the bar and which will be necessary, what with other Ulster teams coming to the fore if nothing else.
Galway were hit with injuries and anyone who doubts Walsh and Comer needs to rethink - they just weren't ready and I trust they also have many great days before them. Maybe Comer is ageing and while he looked almost delicate vs Donegal, I recall an absolute Lordy display by him against the same boyos of a day in Letterkenny's O'Donnell Park.
The final had it's moments but apart from the surprise if worthy contenders and an Armagh GAA President, I don't think it will stand out in the history books.
We are only guessing re KD and on that basis my gut feel, maybe a guess feel, is that getting teams over the line isn't a hallmark of Geesers, so our Rockie buck might have been the difference?
What we are not guessing on though is that whoever thinks Kerry intercounty teams must play with fear needs to be sent packing. This isn't just a policy - this is what those involved are about and it sucks.
So we need a new management team and while it isn't always advisable, I have great faith in a few out there who might make a joint effort the best option, moreover as we have no obvious successor.
If we played creatively and aggressively, and as we re well capable of, Samuel would be travelling south tomorrow after lunch.
We don't know what arrangement KD has with the Orchards but I don't think we should hang around.
BTW what did people think of 'Up For The Match' - is it me of was it that neither show fleshed out the DNA of the spirit of the occasions? Ah I'm as down in the dumps as the next man with the shortened season so maybe that's part of my misery and as I have been moving about I am not so close to the club scene a I'd like to be. BTW what did others think of the year overall - if there was a consensus here it might help our leaders make the right decisions.
I always rated our current panel and Vet has me on record here having put me to the sword - there were times this past while that I thought I got it wrong and I may even have said as much. After what I saw all year, I'd be hopeful that if we had a right management in place our boys could get that counter to 40 fairly soon.
Great commentary on here, probably the best ever in the run up to the semis, so thanks to all for sharing your thoughts and it does make for a more interesting pursuit.
And well done to all our panel and the support group for what they never fail to give us - they make great sacrifices and then latchicos like call for their heads on a plate. Yerra yerra sure nobody takes a blind bit of notice of me anyway so all is fair in love and war.
