Its a tricky one about Con.
If delivering on big occasions is what matters then Con was not playing in those in 2022. Does delivering v Wexford and Kildare matter much?
As against that, it can be fairly said that his injury was pivotal to where Sam ended up in 2022. He was in rare form and probably as his peak now.
I would discount the PWC angle.
I suppose the question is this: who was not nominated that should be there in Cons place.

I have no issue with O Callaghan getting a nomination but get off your high horse. Fighting for Kerry’s honour? It is just a game. Every county has one eyed fans. Go back to criticising Clifford I'm not on any high horse. I'm a realist and I've been going to Kerry games for nearly 50 years and I can see. Kerry had a name for being so gracious but that changed when Tyrone started beating us. How dare they! Then Kerry people turned on Tyrone. I remember 95 v Dublin and many wanted Tyrone to win. Roll on 2010 quarter final when the Kerry crowd (although disappointed after Down beat us) were very vocal in croke park cheering on Dublin v Tyrone. Then Dubs become the great team and then it's everything wrong with Dublin. When I grew up the older people would say once you bate Cork all is well. I finally came to understand that a bulk of Kerry people actually just can't stand a team that are known to be better than us and constantly have a gripe with them. On this thread it's Con ó Callaghan and imo deep down it's because he s Dublin. He won't get an all star and he does nt deserve one either. If he does then I can understand uproar but a nomination. Come on! Look in the mirror first. There are a few players nominated that did less than Con but some posters don't seem to have a problem there. For the record Tyrone beat us fair and square everytime as did Cork. We could have beaten Dubs in 19 draw but overall they deserved and and every other win too bar 2011.Now that's not being on a high horse. That's reality. What are you on about? We're talking about one dubious All-Star nomination for a Dublin player and suddenly you're on a rant about Tyrone and Cork beating us. And 1995. And 2010 and 2019? Have to say at this stage I'm seriously doubting that you're a Kerry supporter at all. You never have anything good to say about Kerry, it's players or its supporters. Clifford's sloppy, Kerry are poor, fellas don't wear the requisite colours to matches, supporters are bigots etc etc. Constant negativity.

Whatever full back blots out his opponent in the final gets an All-Star and also decides who gets Sam over the winter. Put another way, if Clifford or Comer is man of the match in the final, that will decide Sam's destination. Sometimes things come back to haunt us, more times they don't!

Considering who Dublin played in Leinster I wouldn't be getting too excited about COC being the top scorer from play in the championship.
A lot of people saying had he played against Kerry Dublin would have won. Well he played last year against Mayo and wasn't anything out of the ordinary that day.
Imo he's like a lot of Dublin players in recent times. Looks good when things go his way but not so much when the pressure is put on.

Whether a fit Con would have made a difference to Dublin's (and Kerry's) fortunes, or not, is irrelevant.
He's a class player and there should be no debate about that. However, the All-Stars are supposed to be about players' actual playing contribution that season, as opposed to their potential or reputation. Con's output for the year was confined to three turkey shoots in Leinster, all of which Dublin would have won easily without him. Had he even had a good league to go with it, there might be a case for him, but he didn't feature at all.

I'm reminded of the famous Pat Healy story, which he tells so well, about his outrageous display in a North Kerry final once upon a time, where he scored an amazing 3 - 03 "from half-back!"
Everyone in Kennelly's bar at the time hadn't much work to do to convince Pat that he deserved to be wrapped in green and gold following this performance.
Micko however, and unfortunately for Pat, wanted to know the context of this amazing 3 - 03.
I don't think Micko was involved in picking the All Star nominations for 2022.

Mick, The only negative crowd noise I heard during the Tyrone/Dublin quarter final in 2010 was from some of the Dublin "fans" in Hill 16! My friends and I started cheering for Tyrone on the back of it. Also, I disagree that Tyrone beat us "fair and square everytime", I would contend that 2005 wasn't fair and that, while Tyrone played better than we did, we beat ourselves in 2021! I'm not going into any explanation about my disagreement about these 2 years as I don't see the point in upping my blood pressure! Feel free to call me ungracious here if you wish, I can live with it. I've no issue about any other time Tyrone beat us (other than taking issue with the fact that we weren't good enough). I agree with you about Con being nominated for an All Star but I won't be up in arms if he gets one, the All Stars are not anything to be excited about ever IMO. I work with a lady from Armagh and she is delighted about 5 Armagh players being nominated for All Stars. She asked me how many Kerry players I thought would win one, she couldn't get over the fact that I genuinely don't care. At the end of the season, all that matters is the location of the cannister!

Maybe so but the reality is he got top scorer by only playing 3 games. If he had played more who knows what he d have scored. People have short memories. If you read back on the Dublin/Kerry thread before semi final an awful amount was discussed on whether or not Con Ó Callaghan would play because he was showing great form. Now I never said Dublin would win with Con but many did yes including Darragh Ó Sé Pat Spillane Joe Brolly and Colm Ó Rourke. Your arguments are always based around hypothetical situations, it’s utterly bizarre how you keep getting into these fantasist style discussions. If he had played more? He didn’t and we can only deal with what he has done. For what he has done- he doesn’t deserve an all star

I suppose there are a few versions of this story, and a few versions I suspect told by Pat himself. In any case , his buddies convinced him to ring Micko to give him the details of his virtuoso performance. Pat duly did this and in the course of the conversation Micko asked him who Listowel had played against in the match. Pat replied Duagh and Micko , as diplomatically as he could , said “ well Pat, the next time Kerry are playing Duagh I will give you a ring “ .

He didn’t and we can only deal with what he has done. For what he has done- he doesn’t deserve an all star My argument is based on fact. A poster said he only played 3 games. My point is well for a man that only played 3 games he was still top scorer from play in the championship and if he had played more games the likely hood is he might have scored more. The facts are Con was top scorer from play in the championship. What's hypothetical about that. When people are questioning the value of some of those matches and are pointing out the fact that he didn’t play in the league, or all Ireland series- you’re comeback is imagine if he had played. Look someone else on here has outlined an opinion that I would deem as being very similar to mine- you’re constantly negative on all things Kerry and make bizarre pro Dessie and now pro Con arguments. I’ve tried my best not to engage with you for the last few weeks but the constant droning on about how you think Con deserves a nomination for 3 Leinster championship turkey shoots has to stop as it’s utter nonsense. I think you know this too and just like to play the contrarian

I think you know this too and just like to play the contrarian [br Was nt it you Kerrybhoy that stated before semi final that you agreed with Darragh in that if Dublin have Mccarthy and Con they will pull it off against Kerry. A bit negative? You also passed a snide remark about Kieran Donaghy involvement with Armagh alluding he should be embarrassed to be involved with them over the eye gouging incident. That's very anti Kerry and very negative Kerrybhoy. Making a prediction? Yeah that’s very anti Kerry. On donaghy? I said the same of them whole Armagh back room and funnily enough- some media pundits have since commented similar that McGeeney and his back room need to take responsibility for a number of brawls this year. That’s not anti Kerry one bit, dongahy does that somehow embody or epitomise Kerry or Kerryness. He is a former kerry player, and a great one at that, but when he’s part of Armagh’s back room team then he’s their man

As someone living outside of Kerry I know how, the day after a Kerry game, everyone will offer an opinion on Kerry’s performance. If Kilkenny had played a game and I met a Kilkenny fan I would never take it upon myself to tell him where Kilkenny had gone wrong. Dubs are not the same. If you were to take them seriously, they would have you believe that Dean Rock was better than Shane Walsh and you wouldn’t be thinking with your own mind any more. Such Monday morning quarter backs are given far too much time on this forum by a few contributors. That is the kernel of the problem here.

Very very unfair on Tom in my opinion, don't think anyone could have lived with Walsh that day and Tom was immense both in League in Championship. In contrast Comer had one outstanding game (semi-final) barely touched a ball in the final and gets in - the mind boogles!
On that note what the hell did Kilkenny do to justify an All Star, who the f did Dublin beat this year like?!!!

Kilkenny, who I think it a bit on the overhyped side, did have quite a good year overall. Plus they'd to find at least one Dublin player.

Graham gave one of the all time great Kerry all Ireland final performances but I think its the right call he didnt get one.
Comer shouldnt be near the team on the same basis that Tom Sullivan didnt have a good final.
re Gavin White - he is a superb player and 100% was guaranteed one - is under rated in Kerry it seems and always harshely judged, as tends to happen with many players we have.

Is this the first year ever that the All Stars were drawn only from the championship semifinalists and finalists? In theory then, players had to do well in only two games. And this is suppose to be the team of the the year. What a farce.
Kerry did well to get seven but in their defence they did win the NFL as well .

7 isnt bad a bad haul in a year where we werent totally dominant. Semis seem to count double and the final triple ( good and bad!) As usual. Any of our backs could have been picked really which is a great place to be ! Maybe lucky to get three forwards as competition was tough. Thought kilkenny desereved his one was consistantly good in a struggiling team and nearly dragged them over the line vs us.
