So the time has come where thr finalists are now known and the talk about all stars can start. Currently my team is as follows (assuming Kerry to win the All Ireland):
1) Shane Ryan (Kerry) 2) Chrissy McKaigue (Derry) 3) Seán Kelly (Galway) 4) Lee Gannon (Dublin) 5) Kieran Malloy (Galway) 6) Tadgh Morley (Kerry) 7) Tom O'Sullivan (Kerry) 8) Conor Glass (Derry) 9) Cillian McDaid (Galway) 10) Paudie Clifford (Kerry) 11) Seán O'Shea (Kerry) 12) Ciarán Kilkenny (Dublin) 13) David Clifford (Kerry) 14) Damien Comer (Galway) 15) Shane Walsh (Galway)
POTY: David Clifford (Kerry) YPOTY: Lee Gannon (Dublin)
Probably a few controversial decisions here but before the final this is my team. I was stuck between Comer and Finnerty for Galway but Coner has just got the nod due to his consistency throughout the Championship and performance vs Derry but if Finnerty delivers in the final that all could change

I think this is premature but if the final is cagey and tight, and Kerry win, could a Kerry back get POTY?
Morley?

Rafferty will get goalie. He'll get nominated but I would have thought he played better out the field than in goal. Sounds strange but Shane Ryan has really come of age since the League Final I think.

Jason Foley hasn't played a bad game a year, League or Championship. Has to be in contention if we win the final and he marks Comer.

Foley has to get one, he was out best player in the league and has come out on top in all his championship games.

Whatever full back blots out his opponent in the final gets an All-Star and also decides who gets Sam over the winter.
Put another way, if Clifford or Comer is man of the match in the final, that will decide Sam's destination.

My pick pre final
1. Ethan Rafferty (Armagh) 2. Chrissy McKaigue (Derry) 3. Jason Foley (Kerry) 4. Tom O’Sullivan (Kerry) 5. Sean Kelly (Galway) 6. Tadhg Morley (Kerry) 7. Brian O’Beaglaoich (Kerry) 8. Brendan Rodgers (Derry) 9. Cillian McDaid (Galway) 10. Ciaran Kilkenny (Dublin) 11. Sean O’Shea (Kerry) 12. Shane Walsh (Galway) 13. David Clifford (Kerry) 14. Damien Comer (Galway) 15. Rob Finnerty (Galway)
That has 6 Kerry and 5 Galway, whoever wins the final will decide who’s total will increase and who’s will decrease. Paudie just squeezed out of my team, if he has a similar performance in the final he’ll get one. Shane Ryan definitely in the mix for the goalkeeper position too.

Rubbish - the AI final determines All Stars, that is unless people think it was played.
Comer v Jason is probably the ultimate match-up as Damian and our own DC are the most dangerous FFs right now. Of course it is hard to give an All Star to a defender when you don't know what the FF might otherwise have scored. I suppose how both FFs are marked could well have a big say in where Sam spends the winter.

I think this is premature but if the final is cagey and tight, and Kerry win, could a Kerry back get POTY? Morley? Don't think many would argue with that. The main thing going against him would be he's not what you'd call a "flare" player. Many said that's why James McGarry never won one in hurling despite being the most consistent keeper in the game.

Whatever about hexes (I don't believe in them myself), this thread is very premature and irrelevant. I don't care how many All Stars we get as long as we get the cannister!

Rafferty will get goalie. He might, but it depends on the performances of the goalkeepers in the final. Sometimes the more solid, no fuss kind of player tends to get overlooked for All Stars, in favour of players who has one memorable performance or doing something memorable. I remember AOS getting one because he had a great game v Donegal a few years back. He caught everything that day, but did little in the semi or final. Neil Gallagher the same, immense v Cork in semi, but nothing as noteworthy in other games. People will remember Rafferty’s forays upfield and his point scoring, so that might swing it. He was fairly decent in other parts of his game too though, to be fair.

I wouldn't share that view.

Maybe they will accommodate both Ryan and Rafferty. Ryan in goal and Rafferty in the half back line. Based on some picks in previous years I wouldn't put it past them.
I'd pick Rafferty to be honest.

it all depends on final but if Shane Ryan gets a winners medal and makes no mistakes with a good kick outs, he gets it IMO.
it really is impossible to predict as lads that were in running for POTY havent even made all star with a bad final.
Tom S, Clifford, Paidi, Seanie are out front runners right now and barring a bad final, will get one.

I just hope this thread doesn't jinx us. I'd rather a thread on non-finalists and all-stars than a thread to jinx us.
Case in point was Stephen O'Brien was odds on for POTY in 2019 and left with not even an All-Star.
Regarding the All-Stars, is there is a similar team of the year for Tailteann?

James Mc Carthy a certainty for an All Star.

I'd rather a thread on non-finalists and all-stars than a thread to jinx us. what would jinx us? its just a normal discussion and nobody is getting carried away - at moment, kerry and galway both have similar enough numbers if the all stars were being picked today. the final result changes that.

Brian O'Beaglaioch had a powerful last 35 on Sunday, some great carries including receiving the final kickout, mighty stuff...

It is ridiculous to be picking all-stars before the final.
Last year we told Tyrone we wouldn't take a walkover because "we needed a game before the final".

The breakdown of All Stars among the hurling finalists last year was Limerick 12 Cork 0. The final will dictate the majority of where these awards go.

Not so sure this thread is a good idea, though I may have been early with tipping the Ballydonoghoor for one! I'd hate to think contributions on here are being used in the Galway dressing room - certainly the very fact there is such a thread will do them no harm at all. Our 5 in a row T shirts are collectors items in the faithful county. With respect, threads have been dehorned for less - far less. With the shortened season there will be plenty of time for this when Sam has been won by whoever is better on the day.
