The respective Wikipedia pages say Annascaul won Novice in '76 and An Ghaeltacht in 1992. This is what I am going on (well a bit more in the case of Annascaul). Very good. Would Tommy Doyle have been playing in ‘76? I’d imagine a few Gaeltacht lads would’ve played from 92 to 2001. Yes, Doyle was playing for Kerry the year after... Darragh Sé may well have been playing Novice club in 1992. I understand that some Valentia players did what Doyle did (in a very similar era): "There are a few ex GAA players from Valentia Island who have a unique collection of county football championship medals. We'll call it the "the Kerry slam" Novice 1975, Junior 1981, Intermediate 1986 & 1995, County club 1986, County senior championship 1981 & 1982 (with South Kerry)." kerrygaa.proboards.com/thread/3735/county-championship-medal-winners

I reckon Tommy Doyle won the Novice Championship, the Junior Championship, the Intermediate Championship, the Senior Club as well as the Co Championship with West Kerry (and very nearly with his club too). Any other players won all five? Any player win all five with their club? Didn’t think Anascaul were ever in the Novice but could be wrong of course. Although I do remember Tommy Doyle playing in a West Kerry B final against Lispole. He was eligible as he had been injured all year and hadn’t played for the Seniors. I think he may have been retired at that stage but only just. Well they were in the Junior Championship that was the Novice only a few years ago. I think I seen somewhere where Tommy Doyle said he played in every division of the county league as well.

Up to 1927 Tralee played as a single side in the County championship (Tralee Mitchels and Tralee selection winning several titles) - street teams (including the three main streets) existed from the earliest days of the GAA in Kerry. Richard Mc Elligott's history of Kerry football lists over 30 different names that Tralee sides used in the first fifty tears of the GAA in Kerry. In 1928 the three main street teams of Rock Street, Strand Street and Boherbue played individually in the Co Championship and the formation of Na Gael in 1979 (Oakpark/Listowel Road) gave us the current four town clubs. Over time the three street teams adopted the names Austin Stacks, O Rahillys (and later Kerins O Rahilly's) and John Mitchells. I think the current limit of 8 senior clubs is the lowest number of clubs in the County championship and this is a significant contributor to the current situation where only 1 senior club will be representing Tralee in 2024 - probably the first time since 1927? I suppose an irony is that as this is happening in the big ball, Tralee Parnells are progressing to a stage where being a serious force in senior hurling is only a few years away! A lot of my friends who are hurling men embedded in their clubs in the likes of Ardfert, Crotta, Lixnaw are very resentful towards the preferential treatment they see Parnells getting underage. Or so they claim. I'm too removed these times to know the truth. Still it's an interesting dynamic developing. But by the same token there is something wrong if Tralee is only mustering one senior football club Some North Kerry clubs have got the hump over Parnells because they are now beaten them at underage etc They're also not happy that Parnells now have adult teams as they can't take their players anymore. This attitude imo is what's holding back hurling in Kerry. North Kerry teams have no problem with South Kerry teams once they don't start beating them.

Never knew Annascaul were so good They got to the county final one year, mid 90's vs Killorglin. They beat the narries, in the semi final after a replay, they were two good games

Never knew Annascaul were so good Would have been one of the strongest clubs in the late 80s to early 90s. Would have had a lot of players playing with Kerry at the time.

Actually that's true, after Tommy Doyle retired, in the lean years senior wise, you had David Farrell, Fintan Ashe, Johnny Driscoll, Bingo Driscoll, Geni Farrell..... even at underage you had Mark Moynihan, Kieran Driscoll, Vincent Knightly etc... that's a nice tidy number just off the top of the head... I'm sure there are more that have slipped the mind, there was another that was midfield for the minors in 88 or 89, but the name escapes me...

Vincent Knightly was centre back on the 1988 minor winning team. I think Sean Driscoll was midfield in the 1990 team that lost the AIF so that’s probably who you’re referring to. Genie Farrell and Johnny Driscoll were on that team as well so three first cousins. Annascaul were strong at that time as you say. AFAIK David Farrell captained Kerry in a Munster championship match in 1991 (after Wk won in 1990). David had a lot of injury problems and he and a few of the Driscolls ended up going to the States.

With Stacks now spending another year at Intermediate and one of Strand Road or Na Gaeil dropping down, well bar they both get to the county final. When is the last time Tralee has had only one senior club? Up to 1927 Tralee played as a single side in the County championship (Tralee Mitchels and Tralee selection winning several titles) - street teams (including the three main streets) existed from the earliest days of the GAA in Kerry. In the last 70 years only one new club has joined the winners list - Gaeltacht. (Lots of new Divisional winners in the 70s and 80s)

There's more than one Driscoll family. They're also related to Tommy Doyle.

The current Dingle club didn't form until the late 60s I think.

A curious piece of Trivia from "Forging a Kingdom" - in 1930 there were 93 football and 36 hurling clubs affiliated to the Kerry County Board. From these only 7 football (3 from Tralee) and 8 hurling sides contested the county championship And this was at a time when Kerry were in the midst of their first 4 in a row (1929-1932).

We sometimes hear about a father and son lining out together... maybe in Kerry or beyond.
Has there ever been a club player who played with a parent and then later with a child?
I guess I would restrict to a club's first team.
I have no answers.

I would imagine Mikey Boyle falls into this category, I know he togged with one of his sons this year, I'm almost certain he togged along with a few of his brothers when his own father was in goals for Ballyduff.

Hi All, New to the forum so I hope you don't mind me asking a quick question. A friend of mine from Dublin is researching a book at the moment and has asked me the question 'Has anyone NOT born in Kerry ever played for Kerry'. I scratched my head but can't think of any but I'm not the best person to answer the question either. If any of you can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

Liam played with his father Liam in the mid 1990s, Liam was 16 or so coming on a sub for Ballyduff in a county final and his father was in goals. I dont think Liam will get to play with his son. Evan will go straight into the Ballyduff senior team and Liam's playing contribution is now just the odd appearance with Ladies Walk

Not Vinnie Murphy examples, but Tommy Doyle and Darren O'Sullivan who were born abroad (Chicago and London). I would guess also technical answers would be people born in maternity hospitals in Cork. I presume there is a sprinkling of those.
