The words of the man who designed the dirty brown yoke!! He also designed one of the best looking home jerseys.

To be fair, Paul's home creation was universally accepted as being one of the best in decades and was the biggest money earner sales wise for the county board.

Whatever about the design of the jersey , and we will be in a better position to critique it after Sunday, I do hope the numbers are clearly legible unlike one we had some years ago.

It's an affront to the senses. I was expecting the lazy borrow another county template and half expected the new Tipp geansaí with green swapped in for blue. Looking back id take it in a heartbeat. Wow. I'm absolutely shocked.
If Kerry have a new Jersey in 2023 I wouldn't be surprised. Tacky is too good a word. This will not sell, I should know as I bought the black and tan/Benson and Hedges jersey.

Agree that it might be better when we see in the flesh, but looks a lot like the beauty below from the faschion unconscious early '90s.

I know this time may be different but I remember with Galvins jersey there was a lot of people who didn't like it at first but it grew on people. Same might happen with this but only time will tell I guess

Like many today, I've seen it in the flesh, the new Kerry jersey of 2022, by the way, the away jersey will be out in 2023, I've been reliably informed.
First and foremost, opinions will differ, I'm seeing points of view from both decides and the 'silent majority thus far, as LBJ said of America's Vietnam protest war back in the day.
My view, coming from an art & design background, it is a glorified training top. Too many concepts rolled into what should have been a slick and succinct representation of what Kerry stands for, tradition, as tradition and prestige is everything we are about. I do not see it here.
The terrible, lazy, generically templates sergans stripes on the sleeves is beyond boring and our sunset band with the minimalist KERRY across the that hoop is like a cheap knock off, Aldi styled sponsored representation to an underage team. Its not silky enough neither, for the cost.
What gets me most is our crest, designed by a Mayo man would you believe! I teach up there, It's beyond horrendous, the cheap cadmium light yellow is brutal, I've always had a problem with this crest since day one back in 2011. It's a generic Wexfordian, American Football team styled logo, not suited to the GAA at all. Gold should have been a big part of the crest since day one, Kerry is shat we aspire to, the Gold standard. The 1988 crest was the best by far, even ahead of the 1984 one, but very few counties, not a mind clubs, had crests on their jersey's back in 1984. Kerry was the first county ever to wear a silk jersey though in GAA, both hurling and football, back in the 80's.
The KERRY should have been watermarked as the same colour, onto our traditional 'gold' band this time, it has never, ever been done before, but it would have worked, like having a sponsor from a distance, but her having one up close, this would have been a cutting edge concept.
As I alluded too a few weeks ago, the county board missed a trick in not running a county wide, or a public competition in designing this jersey, maximum exposure for the sponsor, the GAA too, this worked up in Mayo with their away jersey, as I know well. Forget about Paul as I'm sure he may not be able to barely draw / sketch, easy to copy & paste templates from various sources. Evrnyhough 'his jersey' was the best since the Millfield edition back in 1995. The Kerry jersey's from the mid 1980’s and early 90's were better again.

I like it.
I am taken aback at all the criticism.
After the brown one i am sort of delighted with a green jersey with a gold hoop.
Easily pleased i suppose.
I see its no longer "Kerry Group"...just Kerry...why is that?

I read somewhere, possibly here, that when Kerry Group started supporting Kerry Gaa they considered putting their company logo, (which has always been 'Kerry' with a line underneath) on the jersey but at the time though it might appear odd that the County's name is on the jersey, so went with Kerry Group instead. What is on the new jersey is the company logo which appears on their website and all other documentation etc.

The best Kerry jersey but several miles! 1985 - 1987 jersey. Ironically enough, that 'royal' blue jersey was against Meath in the 1986 All-Ireland Semi-Final. Loved that all blue Munster provincial strip. If O'Neills did complete resurrection of those full 80's kits, I know for a fact, they'd be the biggest seller of any jersey we've had.

Interesting to get the perspective from someone with a design background. I have had some limited experience of it and one thing I found was that the focus was always on what young people want as that is the biggest market. For example, I love a collar but apparently that's not in vogue anymore with the youth. I suspect the strange colours used in our last two away jerseys and the crest elements interwoven in this new geansai are all designed to make it something distinct to appeal to a youth market. Can I ask what you meant by the watermarking the sponsors colour though? I wasn't sure what you meant. BTW totally agree with you as regards the new crest they launched in 2012. Went on a big rant about it at the time. For me it was like some knock off rugby crest some mad combo of Munster and the All Blacks! I understood the commercial rationale about wanting to trademark merchandise, but Cork and Dublin had similar issues and all they did was to slightly modify their original crests to ensure trademark rights. For me Kerry will always be the Round Tower if Rathoo, the harp and the wolfhound.

For me Kerry will always be the Round Tower if Rathoo, the harp and the wolfhound. Hello! Hermit. Hope you're well man. I think we can all agree on the round tower / harp crest, which was designed in 1988, it was one of the best crests in Ireland. There are only two crests now that reach the gold standard, Limerick and Meath, with their symmetrical, perspective composed designs. We could have done what the Australian government did last week, by out the rights to the Aboriginal flag, our county board should have done this. As for your question Hermit on the watermark concept, the KERRY on the band would be the same colour as the band, except maybe a one to two shade lighter or darker, a bit like a watermark design on a banknote. A second idea could be done with an embossment of the raised KERRY with the same colour. A third idea could be a holographic KERRY on the band. This can be definitely done on fabric. I'd love to see the long sleeved as well as the short sleeved offered in shops. The Kerry shop in Killarney, brilliant and sll it is, and the boys there are great 👍 lads, I think should be getting onto O'Neills or some designer to resurrect all of Kerry's past jersey's, a sort of Commemorative Room full of that gear, it would sell out, I guarantee you that. We also missed the opportunity in bringing out a bespoke Kerry 1921 jersey, Limerick, Cork and Tipperary did it. Remember Kerry was as important in the struggle for independence as much as any other county, we were the fulcrum outside the Pale. Bespoke is what we here in Kerry should be all about. If O'Neills insist on their musical chairs intercounty, copy and paste on us, we should tell them to go to hell! and instead take our business elsewhere to Adidas, like we used or Azzuri in Waterford. Our next jersey, we should call the shots. End of. Anyway, not much good now Hermit, as they say, the deed is done.

Cheers promisedland, although in fairness the CB did bring out the post Civil War jersey in August to mark what is a proper Kerry GAA connection with the Irish Revolutionary era. Aside from it and the Tipp Bloody Sunday jersey, all the others were just cynical bandwagonism IMO - Cork's 2019 War of Indo thing being the perfect case in point.
Interesting idea about a hologram or a darker shade of same colour for Kerry sponsor - but would the sponsor not insist in their brand being as visible as possible. So would that tie the CB's hands in that regard.

So would that tie the CB's hands in that regard. Wouldn't think so Hermit, aesthetically, it wouod look superb, Kerry is a brand name in it's own right, they've nothing left to prove, and anyway it would be completely bespoke, never done before in Ireland, we would be trailblazers, so in that respect, nobody's hands would be tied. Time to pioneer something cutting edge and be progressive. Other counties wouod follow suit, that I am sure of. That commerative jersey we brought out last year was a thing of beauty, but it was not purely really directly linked to the war of independence. It is a gorgeous jersey though. In my opinion there's nothing wrong in marking milestones locally or nationally with jersey's, clubs or counties, it's all about the motive and the end representation. I agree with you though, they didn't do a great job with theirs at all. Like life in general I guess. Anyway,to quote Jack O' Connor's - Keys to a Kingdom book, "We move on".

Interesting promisedland but you are not considering the colored blind with your description of the watermark, we wouldn’t have a hope in hell of seeing the Kerry brand name. It’s bad enough when even the 90% struggle to distinguish the numbers, now this. Maybe the “Woke” brigade can help me out, they have their paws stuck in everything else.

We don't need to consider it Aodhan. I know what I'm talking about. Who really wants to see the very large KERRY logo on the band. Kerry Group are well off as it ends, building plants all over the world, there's fear of them. They've been very good to us alright since the microscope styled sponsorship names on jersey's way back in 1991. All we need to see is a Kerry jersey as close to a traditional jersey as possible.

The Jersey looked good in person, from where I was in the stand it looked pretty semilar to Gallys 2018 one except with V neck.
I could make out the numbers nó problem but it could be different under lights.
Horse I liked the goalie Jersey, very Tipp like but darker blue.

With all the talk over the years about county champions nominating the captain, a thought struck me yesterday when watching our goalkeeper, and his jersey specifically.
If the right to nominate the captain is taken away from the county champions, then the goalkeeper's jersey for the following year will be the county champions jersey. I'd have preferred seeing the black and amber yesterday versus what looked like the Tipperary jersey. And I mean the outfield jersey of the club, so the full black and amber of Austin Stacks this year, not the Stacks keeper jersey.
