Totally agree with the team selection. I hope this is the new start that we need. Wouldn't it be fantastic to recapture the buzz and excitment we normally feel at this stage of the championship. Wouldn't have minded seeing Sean O' Sullivan get a start but that being said he is a great option to bring on as a fresh set of legs with his natural speed. Delighted for Gooch. He will lead by example. Just heard on Radio Kerry that 2 young lads turned their kerry jerseys inside out after munster final replay - Lets see none of that on Saturday. Ciarrai Abu!

Surfdude, I certainly don't think this forum affects team selection or tactics. I never said that and to say it would be totally crazy. However, i do think it is very possible that journalists would use it as a source of information for articles and to get the mood within the county. The people on this forum are generally very knowledgeable and put the feelings of the kerry supporters on paper. For example, if a journalist wanted to know why Declan OSullivan was booed in Parc Ui Caoimh all he has to do is log on here and he would get a good understanding of it straight away. Some of us have been quite critical since the AI final. Just making the point that it is an excellent sourceof information for a journalist. Just ask Colm Keys (aka Kerrygold!!!!!)

I know that the forum does tend to give some accurate info that is probably not meant for outside ears..... I recall the final last year when Eoin Brosnans positioning at full forward was revealed on the forum. This is ironic given that i know for a fact that leading up to the final certain people involved do not like to discuss tactics etc on the phone!! Taking things too far? Anyway this time I think the world and its dog knew that Star would be No 14 and Tommy would be mid field. Maybe we should conspire to spread rumours on the Armagh site if we get past Longford!

In fairness there are so many different tactial and position suggestions but forward on this forum that someone has to get it right! Odds have a part to play.

I am starting to believe the people who posted last year that we were giving too much information away on this forum!! I know for a fact that there has been no talk at all about shifting Seamus to the half forward line within the camp. In fact the only person i know who has brought it up is KERRYGOLD!!! Are you Colm Keys in disguise Kerrygold?!!! i can assure you seamus that kerrygold is not colm keyes.however reading the aticle myself this morning on the paper i got the same feeling that colm keyes might have got some of his information from this forum. i was the one that suggested after the final that the information that brosnan would start fullforward should not have been posted on this forum and i got castigated and ridiculed for it. All you have to do is take a look at the article forum watch on the indo on either thurday or friday to see who is watching the forums and web sites around the country. information from within the camp should be discussed by private message in my opinion.

Agree that journalists take a peak at county forums. I remeber being quoted on a comment I made on this forum by Vincent Hogan in Independent after Jack's first League match in charge - Longford! Hope this is not a bad omen!!!!!!!!!

The truth was every night last year before Mikey Harte went to bed he used to log on and find out any updates on the kerry team, then he used to mull over what he had read before going to sleep. Lads what ye on about if a team manager bases his tactics on crap written in a forum he wouldn't be lasting too long in a job.

Who said anything about a team manager basing his tactics on what is written on a forum?
I made the point that i think a couple of journalists may have been using the forum for material for articles. I'm sure Jack has better things to be doing!

Ok. Enough jokes about the team rumours etc. A valid point was made about journalists keeping an eye on info on forums. Its easy enough to tell the genuine stuff from the bunkum most of the time anyway. As regards best pubs for watching games in Killarney? Well for starters go to the game rather than watch it in a pub. Best GAA pubs in town aren't necessarily best night on the tiles pubs....Jimmy Brien's springs to mind (worth a look for stuff on walls alone). The Tatler Jack is always a good bet.

It was based on the fact that there was different levels of expectations amongst fans from different counties. Had it at home (well it was my claim to fame!) but lost it.

Re the journos cogging stuff off this forum, Stacks started a thread after the final last year about "being the best, setting standards" or something along those lines. A few months later in the Arena sports supplement of the examiner there was an article that basically summed up what was in that thread. Didnt go unnoticed by myself or Stacks though!
Although what am I saying, journalists never copy anything!

Well, have had a few days down in the home land before I hit the high seas to mull the team over. What surprised me most was that there was absolutely no surprise at the team at all. Everybody knew about Donaghy at full forward and had taken it as a given. So much so that even Luck Dempsey called in his big under 21 full back who is good at winning high ball coming into the edge of the square.
Can't say I'm complaining about the team, with the possible exception of having Sheehan in for the frees ahead of Mike Frank. He is my biggest worry. Fingers crossed he can feed well off of Donaghy and come good. I just don't know if it is possible but here's hoping.
This forum member fluctuated between dropping Declan and pinning him down at full forward all year, as you all know. Jack needed to make that call more than any other. He has, so now there can be no complaining from anybody, either on or off the forum. Radical changes have been made that we all suggested and shouted for from the stands. Which makes me worry more than Mike Frank. Jack O'Connor has always made his own mind up. He has never listened to other people, always had the strenght of mind to call his own shots. This year, he has been weaker on the sidelines than the past. Partially because his arsenal is weaker than last year and 2004, partially because he couldn't drop Declan. Something about so many changes that the public were openly calling for on Radio Kerry, The Kerryman, The Kerrys Eye, The Kingdom, even here, that Jack has replicated make me wonder. Has Jack listened too much to the public this time? Maybe not, I hope not. Just a thought for you all though.
Anyway, will be in the air during the game on Saturday thanks to the GAA who brought it forward. So, well, COME ON THE KINGDOM.

Hey Austinstacksabu,
Good to hear from you. MFR will produce the goods-no worries. O'Connor had to make changes for sure.
Hope that some time Marc will move forward to that half-back line. Still hoping for that to happen.
Good luck with your new job overseas.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Have read since the start of the year guys. This current situation has been flagged for an age. We now have 2 seperate competitions on the GAA championship calendar. Provincial and AI series. The big man FF was mentioned and tried in training very early on. JOC hinted that his provincial set up was not necessarily going to be his AI series first choice.Albeit he gave his s/kerry lads a bit more time than they deserved I still think there are chances for them both yet. In my opinion now we are in the ideal situation to make a serious assault on Sam this year. I base this more on what is left than what we have ourselves. I feel Longford and Armagh are there for the taking which would put us in an ideal situation for a Semi against what I feel is the weakest segment of the draw. The MFR situation is puggling but if he spills 20 balls and kicks 5/6 wides but bags 2/3 points he will be doing no worse than what went before him. Star is the future of Kerry football but we are not sure whether he will be playing b/ball or not next year. What do we do???We throw him in F/F when he is performing at midfield, This also is puggling.I could think of one or two players I woud try ahead of him at F/F. Mac Gearailt? Fitzmaurice? Dara O Sé ,Griffin(Not sure dont no enuf about him).My preferred option would be to stick with Sheehan. Congrats to Gooch on the captaincy.Does this stick now, or do we have another farce when Dec or Brian comes on???. All in all though there is only one management team and I hope to god they only scrape through against Longford and keep those all important performances for Mecca. Congrats to JOE NINER ZERO for getting the 15 right for Saturday. If not in situ. Also best of luck to the rock man in his new venture. If we can get it right in the 6" between the ears we are over half way there before we kick a ball. Win lose or draw CIARRAí ABú GACH Lá.

What I would like to see on Saturday: 1. Kerry half backs & Midfielders kicking the ball in long, not aimless, but at the same time as fast as possible 2. Gooch showing boundless energy, regaining his confidence, constantly looking for the ball, kicking over a few beauties and setting up multiple scores 3. Brosnan making some trademark runs through the center and nailing down his place on the forty 4. A clinical performance from our forward line, dont care who gets the scores. 5. Accurate free taking from both sides of the pitch (MF & Gooch) 6. Dec Sull, B Sheehan and Sean Sull to come on and make big impact. We need these guys flying and pushing for places. 7. This Kerry team showing raw hunger that they want to win this All-Ireland 8. Most importantly - a Kerry victory
I havnt been this excited about a Kerry game since last years All-Ireland. Playing Longford! Its strange but I feel this is the game where we get back on track and set the wheels in motion.

not asking for much then Jay? Would settle for 5 or 6 out of your 8. Doubt we'll get more.

Still here BMAC, soaking it all up.
I think this match has the potential to be an eight or ten pointer in favour of Kerry. If the team is building and has the buzz that everybody on this forum has, they could unleash everything against Longford, this might not be the best approach to the Armagh match, but a win is a win and of course it could also go the other way, God forbid.
Are you taking much abuse in Cork? Soak it all up, you can dish it back in spades after the Semi...............he says nervously.
Best of luck to the Minors and Juniors the weekend, nice to see a few Brendans boys playing, hope its our first but not last AI this year!
Tried to head over this weekend but Ryanair really taking the p, two or three hundred sterling for a flight, so on the telly it is in in the pub, cant go next week if we win, staying with the in laws in Tipp for the weekend, but the Green and Gold will be worn and the voice will be heard..............assuming we win this week of course.
UP THE KINGDOM..........Gooch as captain? no worries.

Was watching Setanta Sports last night reviewing the Kerry match. The analysts seem to be very impressed with Longfords two wing-backs. They are small but lightning fast. This could be trouble for us because as far as I can see, when Paul Galvin is playing well, scoring, picking up breaks, & racing forward Kerry win!! When he's not on form, games against Cork, we don't win!!! We need that half forward line to perform, this would take pressure off Gooch, Donagh & MFR, they can relax a bit and loosen out, and well, we all know what they are capable of if that happens!!! There is an air of confidence around that Kerry will win, but then again, everyone fully expected the Kingdom to run over Cork in the replay. The mentality was, oh we got a shock the first day, we can't be as bad again, yet we are in the qualifiers and Cork waiting in the 1/4ers. I just hope we finally get it together and put in a decent performance (and WIN obviously!!!), we need a confidence boost if we are going to challenge Armagh!!!
Kerry ABú, to win by 5points!!!

Nobody has mentioned this much, but if Donaghy turns out to be a success, then he could bring out the best from Eoin Brosnan and we should then expect a few telling bursts through the center from him. Im really looking forward to this game
