This would have been my exact team so if we lose on Saturday then i can't really criticise the management again!! I am quite hopeful for Saturday and i think the changes will bring out a large Kerry crowd curious to see how they gel together.

Yes, good strong team...and as stated, management took some good decisions. Having a ball winning full-forward is a big step forward....now if we have the half forward line playing as more a traditional half forward line, then I think we really are improving again. Like everyone else here, I hope theres a big turn out for saturdays game (and the two games on sunday) and lets really get behind the team. They deserve our support...all the way to the final whistle.

glad to see an efford made to change things around, the penny seems to have dropped,i just hope its not 6 months too late. The level of mood, spirt, drive, hunger, determination and will to win that the team will show on saturday will tell us everything we need to know about further tests down the road.there's a huge 9 or 10 days coming up for this kerry team. Good luck to the lads and management.

huge day for Donaghy and huge day for Mike Frank. If those two play well it could really reignite our championship. If they don't it will be a disaster. I am in agreement with those who reckon that Mike Frank being in there could revitalise the Gooch. and so too could the captaincy. I have always been in favour of a runner being in with Dara so Tommy Griffen is going to be an important player on the weekend too. as for the frees gooch and MFR will take teh close ones but as for the long ones and the 45's? I suppose Mike Frank will have to take those too. If he pops one or two over early then his confidence might start to flow. Looking forward to the game a lot now. Its like a fresh start or something

Excellent team. Sean Sullivan unlucky to be out and Brosnan lucky to be in.
Well done jack and more to the point, well done Gooch, MFR and Tommy Griffin.

I just hope that Kerry dont restrict themselves to one attacking option on Sunday - pumping high ball on top of Donaghy. Longford are also likely to provoke him so heres hoping that he keeps his discipline a bit better than he has before.
Big day for Tommy Griffin, after all the years on the sidelines he's got a great chance to prove himself. I wonder how Darragh will fare with his new midfield partner, I wonder how many different people have played midfield with hm over the last 10 years for Kerry?
As for the following on Saturday I wouldnt be too convinced of a big turn out. Longford will being a big crowd but I'm afraid the Kerry public wont be too bothered about this one.

The players I'd most like to see playing well on Saturday are Mike Mac, Griffin, Brosnan and MFR. It'd be nice to see the odd flash of genius from the Gooch as well.
I'd also plead with all the Kerry supporters that if Declan O'Sullivan comes on at any stage to give him the biggest cheer of the day, to banish the memories of the disgraceful behaviour that he had to endure against Cork that no Kerry player should ever have to endure.

well said Jo90, dec didnt deserve that. fair play to the management for ringing the changes, took al ot of courage, but i suppose something had to give. would like to see sean sull making an appearance, his pace will cause a tiring team lots of trouble. frees? hopefully MFR will throw over a couple of early easy ones to get the confidence up. cant wait for the game now, definitely the kind of team people were calling for on this forum!!

Im sure every Kerry follower would like to see Declan come back to form. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

lads, were far better off taking this route in a quarter final,if we had got the frees in the drawn game and stumbled through these questions might never have been addressed or asked.

Well done to the management for making these switches. It looks like an exciting team. Have no worries about star scoring on saturday. His previous lack of accurate shots and passing off in scoring positions had more to do ( I suspect )with orders from Jack than lack of ability. Full Forward is his natural position. Expect at least 1-02 from him. Really looking forward to this and agree with giving Dec a big cheer if he's introduced. Congrats to Gooch on his Captaincy.

Well if the team can get as re-energised and refocussed as the members of this forum then there is a possibility of a repeat of the run in 2002.

The Gooch is captain - hopefully this honour will help him re-capture his form. Brosnan is lucky to be on the side given his displays to date - surely if he doesnt perform from centre forward on Sunday he wont be in the side should we advance to meet Armagh. I think this is a brave call by Jack. He is obviously stung by the criticism of the last 4 displays and has made some very brave decisions - no player from South Kerry (who've won the last 2 county championships least we forget) and dropping his captain and clubmate. I'm hoping for a good display on Saturday, get the old buzz back again. After all the doom and gloom so far we've still got a great chance of winning Sam, its just a case of getting back on track and I'm confident we can do just that. C'mon the Kingdom! Would have thought last thing Cooper needs is added responsibility, hasnt he enough on his plate? If he rises to the occasion then I'll really take my hat off to him. If he has another frustrating day like against Waterford or Tipp then the pressure on the poor guy will surely only get worse. Forecast is for a wet windy day, so a free-flowing performance unlikely anyway

Think Donaghy could be as a full forward. But simply to suit our current tactic of long high aimless ball in. yeah sure, he can jump ten feet in the air and catch a ball. but his distribution of it and scoring ability (or lack thereof) means he cannot be a candidate for FF, in my opinion. Still think this KerryDoc?!

unfortunately yes! but hoping he'll prove me wrong on sat and i'll gladly eat humble pie. suspect his role will largely be to break ball to gooch and the others.

Today's Indo
O'Connor shuffles pack as Cooper handed captaincy
THE contrast in preparation and outlook couldn't be sharper.
Two weeks ago, the gates to training were closed and the team formation for the Munster final replay against Cork remained a secret until close to throw-in time.
This week, the cloaks of secrecy have been cast off. Early yesterday morning, the details of manager Jack O'Connor's redraft were winging their way to inboxes up and down the country. It was along expected lines, save for the nomination of the new captain.
With Declan O'Sullivan and Bryan Sheehan dropped, the county champions, South Kerry, lacked representation so the baton was passed on to the beaten finalists in 2005, Dr Crokes of Killarney.
Responsibility
With Eoin Brosnan having been down the captaincy route before, the responsibility has been handed to Colm Cooper. For O'Connor, it's the perfect scenario, a timely tonic and a show of solidarity for his star forward whose form has dipped but who showed strong signs of recovery the last day.
The Kerry players know best of all the value of a thriving Gooch. This will fast track the recovery.
The other changes had been touted well in advance. Tommy Griffin into midfield, Brosnan to centre-forward, his best position, Darren O'Sullivan at wing forward, Mike Frank Russell recalled and Kieran Donaghy now deployed as a target man at full-forward.
The release of a team so early in the week contains another coded message: "We're ready, we're united and the wagons have been circled."
Nothing, it seems, creates unity in the GAA like a few newspaper columns down on your case.
Rallying
The media's intervention has provided as a much of a rallying point as a well deserved beating by Cork.
Intimate details of team meetings, apparent dissatisfaction with team selection, the inevitable whiff of a training ground bust-up and players exiting dressing-rooms in haste have portrayed a camp at war.
However, by the time the party crossed the county boundaries on the evening of the Munster final replay the repair work had already begun. The frustration of the immediate aftermath was already easing.
Longford had entered the mix at that stage and placement on the same side of the draw as Armagh has given them an extra motivation, possibly a last chance for this team to bury the curse of the north.
If Kerry can build momentum to the semi-final and Cork keep their side of the bargain, those Munster final battles will be renewed in Croke Park. Advantage Kerry. When they could see the potential of the summer stretch out before them they realised it was time to batten down hatches, put swords back into scabbards and create a siege mentality, the "us against the rest of the world" syndrome.
A good night in Tattler Jack's, three decent training sessions last week and now a team where some equilibrium has been restored has helped the rehabilitative process. In Kerry this week, the talk has been of caged animals ready to pounce.
The changes made will please the senior players who were pushing for greater presence in the full-forward line, a source of great frustration in the drawn game in Killarney where very little ball was absorbed when it was played inside, and the core of the alleged tensions in the camp.
Had Donaghy been available last week - he was missing because of suspension - it's probable that Kerry would have used him there at some stage.
O'Connor has played his part too. He may risk the suspicion that he has bowed to the wishes of the mob by dropping O'Sullivan, but these changes were known to be running around in his head immediately after the defeat to Cork.
O'Sullivan had taken too much out of the ball against Cork and hadn't provided the target the players outside him were looking for as he foraged too deep.
Perfect
His time will come again but, for now, he might privately appreciate a step back. Donaghy's mix of athleticism and astute delivery could be the perfect foil for Cooper while Russell, who has never enjoyed much game time under the present management, will seize this as perhaps a last chance to seize a more stable relationship.
Darren O'Sullivan provides the bloodline to the future. Elsewhere, Darragh Ó Sé has been paired with his old West Kerry rival Tommy Griffin after a productive last 20 minutes for the Dingle man in the replay against Cork.
Where the management drew the line however was at centre-forward where they resisted clarion calls for Seamus Moynihan to earn a new posting there.
When Kerry last went through the back door, Kildare, Fermanagh, Galway and Cork were left trailing in their wake. They had one hand on the Sam Maguire until Armagh wrenched it away. That hurt still remains.
This week Kerry people can detect a sense of backlash in the air. The draw is right, the mood is right and, for most, the team is right. The coiled springs are ready to snap.
KERRY (SF v Longford): D Murphy; A O'Mahony, M McCarthy, M O Se; T O Se, S Moynihan, T O'Sullivan; D O Se, T Griffin; Darren O'Sullivan, E Brosnan, P Galvin; C Cooper, K Donaghy, MF Russell.

I am starting to believe the people who posted last year that we were giving too much information away on this forum!! I know for a fact that there has been no talk at all about shifting Seamus to the half forward line within the camp. In fact the only person i know who has brought it up is KERRYGOLD!!!
Are you Colm Keys in disguise Kerrygold?!!!
