Sat down towatch the Championship on BBC last night. Saw the panel: Martin McHugh, Jarlath Burns and special guest Eamon Coleman.
I readied myself for what I thought would be an onslaught of attacks on Kerry.
Lo and Behold: Jerome started the report and alluded to Billy Morgans lack of grace. Jarlath was asked "Were Kerry Cynical" He said no they have toughened up but you had to remember that it was a Derby game and the play was no better or worse than a Derby in Ulster. I held my breath but no criticism from McHugh or Coleman. They said Kerry played well in parts but had problems in the full back line etc etc.
I was gobsmacked: I was expecting anti Kerry stuff butnot a bit appeared. The whole thing was weird.
Still feeling shocked I switched to Park live. Charlie Redmond said John O'Leary was the best goalie ever. Cluxton is the best goalie in the country. Shane Curran (Roscommon) revealed that backstage Charlie told him that Mayo would be lucky to get 8 points against the Dubs. They have to be complacent (again!)
After hearing all that I was beginning to feel normal.
Ulster praise me feel strange but the Dub hype put me back on familiar ground!!
Anyone else see those shows?

I watched park live alright, Charlie Redmond looked a bit pissed off when curren said, what Charlie said back stagage in front of the camera.I was expecting Curren to be a little bit more cracked.

Twas cracked enough to give the Mayo team ammunition for the game thanks to Charlie. We'll see how the Mayo forwards respond now. Hes very wild on the field of play, it seems to help him though.

Saw the BBC 2 NI show alright - to be fair they are biased & Jerome is a bit of a gimpy eejit - but to be fair they aren't the worst.
'Twas hilarious to see a non-Corkman (or Kerryman) give the obvious view that it was hard football & no worse. Enjoyed the clip of the Cork selector making the visit to the Kerry dressinroom on his own, the more I think of it - Billy must have a screw loose when it comes to Kerry - not making the visit is the lowest of the low!
Only thing I would disagree with last night was the view that Kerry didn't toughen up until this year - IMHO Kerry toughened up in 2004, we weren't beaten by toughness last year - Tyrone unfortunately played better football.

John O'Leary WAS the best ever goaly. Dont agree Clucko is the best around at the moment, there's 4 or 5 about the same ability, though with different strengths and weaknesses Charlie Redmond, rogue that he is, of course he's going to say something like that, it's just part of the banter. We heard the same s* about Paul Curran & Offaly. Who cares! It's just as much Kerry propoganda as Dublin hype I agree 100% with Timoleague, all this tripe about "soft All-Irelands" is a lazy excuse and an insult. I couldnt care less if we beat all Leinster teams and New York in the final! - to those of us who arent spoiled by so many final appearances, EVERY All-Ireland win is a hard one

Ah rashers leave poor ould New York out of it. Unless its hurling them we can talk. Ha I agree with you that no All Ireland is a soft one. I hated that when in was said about Kerry in 2004. I believe hard work gets you to a final. As for Dublin I am sure they would hold their own with any team. Its just that we have not seen that and I for one am curious about them.I Dont think they will have a walk in the park with Mayo. As for the Dublin hype we are having a laugh. We all know its the media who are behind it. As for being spoiled with AI wins. You cant give me enough of them. Chill man

With Ronnie Clarke likely to get one, and Blondie Mortimer, Paul Barden, Nicholas Murphy, James Masters - that doesnt leave any All-Stars for Kerry. Surprised that you would think that?

I couldnt see James Masters getting an all star this year, he was non existant really in the two matches in croke park. Ger Spillane might get one though.

You're right, but as Seamus said above, arent these things very media-driven, with strategic voting & higher-profile players seeming to do best. How good was Spillane before the Donegal game?

cork will be screwed for all stars again. we never get any. i'd imagine they'll fit spillane in at wing back. cullen will get the all star for centre back. quirke on goal might get one too, only conceeded one goal in c'ship and made lots of good saves. although cluxton could still probably leave in 5 goals in the two games they culd play and still get an all star the way they love to give dublin a few. they love to give them to the dubs. if the dubs win the AI then they'll get about 12. murphy will be overlooked again. midfield will go to O'Se and whelan. masters didnt play well enough in the last two games to get one.
agree with kerrygold, the all-stars have become a joke

I dunno lads. MacGarrity is in with a great shout for Midfield. Clancy was doing very well on him in LC and they took him out of it. They tried the same with MacGarrity. To be honest I thought Murphy had a better year. But we know the Dubs always get away with murder when it comes to All Stars. Sure they got to the quarter last year and were cribbing that they got none.
Marc and Darragh O Se, Donnaghy, Seamus are certs for us I'd say win or lose. If we win Mahoney, Galvin and Gooch if he has a super final could get them but he will have to have a very good final.
The only Dub that is a cert for me is Cullen but expect Brogan to get one too. Griffin, Whelan, Ryan, Keaney will prob pick up 1 or 2 between them.

i think dara o se is the only player to have played himself into an all-star for kerry so far this year.
a lot will depend on what happens in the final.
if we win we will get 5 or 6,if we lose 3 or 4.

Disagree there Kerrygold. Donnaghy has been unreal in the last 3 games and Moyno has had one of his best years yet. I can't see anyone pipping Marc either to be honest. Those 4 are certs regardless for me.

His has been the story of the summer, and when he was a midfield he was performing very well too. Marc and Dara Se are certs too. Seamus has played some storming games too and has to be in the reckoning. I don't see gooch getting one this year. O'Mahony might. I think they might give one to Masters too for his exploits in Munster, even though he had a poor 1/4 and semi final. But didnt Anthony Tohill win one every year for playing well in the league.

steve mc donnell and ronan clarke are still in the running for the fullforward line, what about mortimor also, kieran will need a big performance in the final to secure it.
i wouldn't rule the gooch out either for the corner,a man of the match performance on a winning team could change that also.
it will come down to who wins the final.

Marc Ó Sé, as far as I can make out, is the only certainty for Kerry. If Kerry win, I presume you will get at least 6. Hopefully Spillane will get one for Cork. But if Cork got none last year… they might not get any this year either.

Certaintys for me would be Dara,Marc and Donaghy, obviously if we win we will probably get 6 or 7,so you,d be lookin at Aidan andSeamus aswell.cork should get 2 or 3,The goalie Quirke,Spillane and maybe Masters. They'll probably try and find a place for Peter Canavan again this year, hes probably done as much to deserve one as the one he got last year. All star selection are a bit of a joke, which is a pity.

Yes Kerrygold, but I feel Marc has been very consistant all year. But you're right, Daragh will more then likely get one. Also Donaghy should, although being sent off mightn't help his cause. I suppose Dublin will have to get at least two for getting to the Semi Final this year

Darragh & McGarrity (obviously barring a terrible performance by either in the final) should get the midfield all stars. Murphy and Whelan deserve nominations, but Darragh & Ronan have been better.

I expect us to get 3 (Darragh, Marc & Star) if we lose. If we win, Seamus might get the "Peter the Great" position. Everyone else needs an excellent all-ireland to squeeze in. We won't get 7 awards this year (let's be honest, we don't deserve them). Mayo will have a similar number, win or lose. As for Cork, owenabue, I expect Quirke to get the goalie position. Murphy might be in the running in midfield, but more likely to get a half forward position. Dublin will get one corner back, the centre back and Ryan will be in the running for a midfield spot, but will probably miss out. Brogan will probably get a forward postition. Summary:: Kerry/Mayo will have 7 between them, Dubs will get 3, Cork 2 and 1 each to Armagh, Donegal & ?.
