marc, dara, aidan, galvin, seamus and start should get them, but then again, this is the all stars that we are talking about, dublin could get 3 or 4, usual crap.

Its not only Kerry people who can win these awards!!Dont think Darran has a shot,he did well whenever he played but didnt play enough to justify the award.I think Keith Higgins could get it,captained Mayo to All Ireland u-21 this year and was very consistent all year(up until yesterday, but he was markin Gooch)

In the past we have all complained that too much emphasis has been on the All-Ireland when picking the allstars and to a lesser extent players of the year. Kerry played in 8 matches this year out of a total of 60 or so matches. We were awful in the first 2 matches and not much better in the next 2. After these 4 matches, only Marc O'Se had played to his potential. So lets be honest enough to admit that we won't get 15 all-stars and both player of the year awards. The Kerry players that will get awards are:: Aidan O'Mahony, Paul Galvin and Star. The Kerry players who should also get awards are:: Darragh & Marc O'Se Others in contention, but should miss out:: Seamus (only because there were 2 better centre backs this year), Tom O'Sullivan, Gooch.
Quirke (Cork) should be the keeper. Donegal corner back ? Lacey (marked Clarke & Masters), Barry Owens and Marc. Dublin & Cork centre backs to be accomodated. Aidan O'Mahony to be wing back. N. Murphy (Cork) and Darragh in midfield Brogan (Dub) will be centre forward. Paul Galvin and AN other Star, Clarke (Armagh) and AN other. Now, Mayo reached the all-Ireland final, so despite their collapse, they deserve at least 2 all-stars. Take your pick from Mortimer, Dillon, McGarrity, McDonald to fill those 2 slots.
Young player of the year is probably the Donegal lad Lacey, if he qualifies.

You have to be U21 and have played three or less senior championship games prior to this year. Would Donnchadh O Connor of Cork fit into that category? Likewise Spillane as well? Are they still under 21?

Spillane isn't under 21!

If O Connor is I'd say he's in with a shout. He was very good against us despite playing on his own in the semi final.

How many championship games had Keith higgins played before this year? I would have thought he was ineligible. if not then he would be in with a huge shout for it, even though his semi final and final displays werent great

not sure if you have to be under 21, i cant remember who, but im sure a player got it a few years ago and was 22 or 23. forgive me if im wrong. has a minor player (ie paddy curran) ever won it? with the exposure he got this year at minor level and the pending replay, would he stand a chance? nobody stands out at all.darran sullivan would have a great chance i reckon.

Darren only got a '6' in the player ratings in the Indo yesterday. Rubbish. His work rate was scary when he got on.
No matter where he is on the pitch, when Kerry haven't got the ball, he's after the fellah in possession like his life depended on it.

Here's my selection:
Definites: Marc Ó Sé, O'Mahony, Daragh Ó Sé, Paul Galvin, Kieran Donaghy
Possibles who may get the nod: Seamus Moynihan
Possibles who won't get the nod: Tommy Griffin

The usual 6 for the winners. Tommy Griffin won't get one.

we should deffo get 6. If Moyno doesn't get one it will be a farce. What did Ger Spillane do better than him? SFA.
Himself Cullen and Mahoney should be the half back line. Think Aidan could be in corner though.

FatTom, Ger Spillane was Corks most consistent player in the league. He was one of the few against Limerick who actually played well, he also got man of the match in Killarney, played well in the replay, scored two valuable points against Donegal (and played well besides that) and didn’t do too badly either in the Semi Final. If you think that’s nothing, I give up.

My half-backs line would be Moynihan, Spillane and O'Mahony. All 3 came good when their team needed them most while Cullen went AWOL against Mayo.
I'm pretty sure a 22 year old won young player of the year before as well. The ones I remember: 1997: MFR 1998: Michael Donellan 1999: Philip Clifford 2000: Joe Bergin 2001: Cormac McAnallen 2002: Ronan Clarke 2003: Sean Kavanagh 2004: Niall Tinney 2005: Aaron Kernan
I'd say this year's young player is between Darren O'Sullivan, Brendan Quigley, Keith Higgins and one of the Dubs, David Henry if he's young enough.

What about the corner forward for Longford (Brian Kavanagh I think??). How old is he?? If he was as good in the other games as he was against Kerry he could be in with a chance

Swap Mortimer(top scorer) for Munnelly and you are pretty much on the ball I think. Whelan/MacGarrity could push Nic Murphy close. Think you've sorted out the Spillane situation very nicely. You don't have one Mayo player though!!!!!! I think Alan Dillon will make it too. Possibly him on the wing with Mortimer in at the expense of Gooch. I think Gooch should get one for link up play and scores set up. But I feel he will lose out.
