Was anyone on here at match today? Was there myself and the Sem looked unbeatable. Very impressed by Evan Cronin, not just today but throughout the competition. Any idea who they are playing in the final?

Last year's runner up. Conor Glass their star player although saw nothing from him in last year's minor semi. Jarlath Og Burns is St. Paul's star.

Great display by the Sem. 8 or 9 fellas making good claims for inclusion on the Kerry minor panel. Good chance Billy Courtney will be midfield this year. Too good this year for goals i think.

St. Pats Maghera beat Bessbrook well, 4-6 to 1-7. Never in doubt. They will start as very strong favourites against Summerhill.

Jackie Cahill, Nenagh
St Brendan’s Killarney (Kerry) 4-15 St Benildus College (Dublin) 0-9
Coach Garry McGrath is hoping to strike gold at the third attempt after watching his rampant St Brendan’s demolish St Benildus by 18 points yesterday to book their place in the Hogan Cup final on April 2.
McGrath was involved in 2008 and 2010 when ‘The Sem’ lost out to Ulster opposition in the form of St Pat’s Dungannon and St Colman’s Newry, respectively.
The final against St Colman’s five years ago was a particularly chastening experience, as St Brendan’s failed to show up at Croke Park.
But they continued their seemingly relentless march to a first Hogan Cup crown since 1992 by clinically putting away the challenge of Dublin outfit St Benildus at MacDonagh Park in Nenagh yesterday.
They were 3-7 to 0-0 ahead approaching half-time and when David Shaw netted their third goal in the 27th minute, some patrons headed for the exits.
St Brendan’s have torched all comers en route to Croke Park and while the margin of victory may not have been as great as the 29 points that separated them from Clonmel High School in the Corn Uí Mhuirí decider, this was another impressive display.
There may be a fear that St Brendan’s haven’t been tested ahead of their big day at GAA HQ — and they still don’t know their final opponents.
Sligo’s Summerhill College are Connacht champions and they’ll face off against the MacRory Cup winners, St Pat’s Maghera or St Paul’s Bessbrook before St Brendan’s can plan accordingly.
McGrath countered: “Everybody’s saying to us we haven’t been tested all year — we’re tested every day we go out on the field because the lads are testing themselves.
“We set a platform for them and we expect them to perform to a level. Thankfully they’re performing to to it every day and again, the skills we showed there today.”
St Benildus started brightly enough but once Evan Cronin, scorer of 2-3, notched the opening score of the game for St Brendan’s in the fifth minute, the floodgates opened.
McGrath agreed: “Once we got into a rhythm, we got a few early scores and kicked on from there.”
Michael Casey bagged the first goal in the 11th minute, finishing off a beautiful team move before Cronin struck four minutes later.
Benildus had lost Aaron Walsh to a black card in the 13th minute and St Brendan’s piled on the misery in the first half.
Shaw’s goal had the winners 16 points ahead before points from Callum Pearson and Andrew Fox cut the half-time deficit to 14.
St Benildus enjoyed their best spell of the game early in the second half but any remote hopes of a successful comeback were snuffed out in the 40th minute.
Sean O’Brien, one of the better players for St Benildus, was turned over in midfield and St Brendan’s broke with lightning speed. A rapid-fire series of handpasses later and Cronin was in on goal before applying a killer finish.
The game petered out from there and now McGrath believes The Sem have unfinished business to attend to. He said: “It was a bad day, 2010 in Croke Park and we were also beaten in the final in 2008, I was over them in Portlaoise. Hopefully third time lucky.” On this evidence, they’ll take some stopping.
Scorers for St Brendan’s:
E Cronin 2-3, D Shaw 1-1, D Clifford 0-4 (1f), M Casey 1-0, D Moynihan 0-3, P McCarthy 0-2, A O’Shea & C O’Shea 0-1 each.
Scorers for St Benildus:
S O’Brien 0-3, T Fox 0-2, C Pearson, D O’Brien, J Rafferty & A Fox 0-1 each.

I have been following the Sem football team ever since I left the school many years ago and I'm very confident that this is the most talented and well balanced teams I have seen for as long as I can remember. They are strong right from the backline through to the forward line and the team is sprinkled with many stars along with many unsung heroes. David Clifford is a standout player with tremendous talent but you have players like Dara Moynihan who is an all rounder.....quality player. Mikey Potts is as good a prospect that we have coming through with Crokes and David Naughten, Billy Courtney and David Shaw follow. Daniel O Brien is a fine player too, the team is littered with talent all over the field.

Final is on this Sat Apr 2nd 3pm in Croke Park In the U16A final last Sat, St Mary's Edenderry beat Patricians of Carrickmacross 1-11 to 1-10. Edenderry won the senior (Hogan) in 2012 and lost the final to Colaiste Na Sceilge in 2009, and they might be ones to watch again in a year or two. In the senior hurling Croke Cup final St. Kieran's from Kilkenny beat Ardscoil Rís of Limerick. 3 in a row for Kieran's and their 21st title. No end to the Kilkenny production line then. www.pp.gaa.ie/match-results

Big day looming for the Sem as they go in search of their third Hogan Cup - Opponents St Patricks are going for their sixth and have won it as recently as 2013. Wishing the Sem all the best and hoping they keep the Hogan Cup in Kerry for an unprecendented third year in a row. St Patricks are playing in their third final in four years having lost to Pobail Scoil in 2014 - an amazing achievement in itself so expect a tough match. St Patricks have won 15 Mc Rorys Cups and the Sem have 21 Corn Ui Mhuiri's - two teams with long pedigrees in colleges football - Ciarrai Abu............

Looking back over the records a few omens??? St Patricks last two losses in the Hogan Cup final were to Kerry opposition. The Sems last two losses in the Hogan Cup final were to Ulster opponents. What are the odds on a draw!!! St Patricks have contested ten Hogan Cup finals since 1980 with 5 wins and 5 losses. The Sem have contested three with one win and two losses.

Famed Kerry footballing nursery bidding to bridge 24-year Hogan Cup wait
Michael Verney
Published 02/04/2016 | 02:30
For a school sitting atop the Munster colleges roll of honour with 21 titles, and widely regarded as the nursery of Kerry football, having helped to hone the craft of icons like John O'Keefe, Seamus Moynihan and Colm Cooper, it's hard to believe it's been 24 years since their last All-Ireland title. St Brendan's Killarney are back in Croke Park today with manager Gary McGrath having a sense of "unfinished business" as they bid to atone for final heartbreak in 2008 and 2010 and claim the Hogan Cup for only a third time.
Much like their last two final defeats, Ulster opposition again stand in their way. This time in the shape of St Patrick's Maghera, who bounced back from two defeats to take the MacRory Cup.
They displayed guts in abundance when hope looked lost in the dying minutes of their semi-final against Summerhill College and only a late Francis Kearney penalty, followed by an injury-time winner by Shane McGuigan sent them through.
McGuigan hit 1-8 that day, and has tallied 4-18 in his last three games, while the availability of AFL-bound Conor Glass, who couldn't start due to illness, brings valuable experience having featured in their 2013 final win.
Having made the nine-hour round trip to Brewster Park in Enniskillen, McGrath, a PE and geography teacher in the Sem since 2000, is in no doubt about the scale of the task facing them.
"They seem to know how to grind out a result which is a sign of a team that won't throw in the towel and won't lie down easily. They were three points down with three minutes to go the last day but they didn't panic and deserved the win," McGrath said.
"Everybody's saying to us 'how will we feel if we're in a battle with ten minutes to go?' Because most of our games have been over with ten minutes to go."
Killarney haven't yet had to dig deep in a dour struggle after waltzing through Munster. Emphatically ending the three-in-a-row All-Ireland bid of Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne was "a big hurdle to overcome".
Their 21st Corn Ui Mhuiri quickly followed with a devastating display against High School Clonmel before devouring Dublin's St Benildus in the semi-final after racing into an unassailable 3-7 to nil lead.
The Sem include four of last year's victorious Kerry minors with McGrath hoping that the big-day involvement of Billy Courtney, captain Dan O'Brien, Evan Cronin and David Shaw will "rub off" on the rest of the squad.
Selector Arthur Fitzgerald brings valuable expertise, having worked under Jack O'Connor for the last two years, but McGrath notes that they placed a "big focus on recuperation and freshness".
Many Kerry championships were carried over into 2016 so management decided less was more and McGrath hopes to write another chapter in the already legendary St Brendan's history.
"No one has tried to count up all the All-Ireland medals that have come from St Brendan's and I'm not sure if you'd be able to count them all up," he said.
"None of these were born when we won in 1992, they weren't even here in 2010. We just hope they play to the potential that we know, and they know, they can. Maybe it'll be third-time lucky."

Half-time...
St Pats 1-5 The Sem 0-7
Sem could do with getting a bit tighter around the middle. Not having it all their own way this time, that's for sure. Pats had a penalty saved too.
