Nope it doesn’t. He can only play with a club within in his parish he is living in. So if he moved parishes he can then move. Ya that 96 week incident was about eight or so years ago, it is always messy when a player wants to transfer, in particular for the home club, their hands are tied as in reality if the player does not want to tog with them, he is no longer of any use to the club.

I notice on foireann that there is the option of joining east kerry only this could be his way round it. I'd usually be dead against lads moving clubs but in this case have some sympathy he is definitely hampered by playing with kilgarvan ( a hurling club really) and his natural district is gone and with east kerry being so strong he isn't exactly getting much exposure or games at a decent level. I'm interested in the kenmare District thing in general if kenmare or templenoe were to get relegated from senior would it be back the following year or god forbid would they join east kerry?

You would think that putting them in with South Kerry would be a better solution. Templenoe play underage in South Kerry so would be pretty logical. Kenmare is a bit different but a bit of common sense would surely see them join South Kerry

For all the talk of how strong East Kerry are the only Kerry Seniors they have who make 26s are the 2 Cliffords, Darragh Roche possibly as well but he’s injured and borderline anyway when it comes to making a 26. When it’s put like that they shouldn’t be unbeatable. They obviously still have a huge pick so all are very strong club players and Cian Lynch and Luke Crowley will probably change that number next year but still think it’s interesting, going off how people talk about them now you’d think they have half the Kerry 15.

In fairness, it isn't just the current Kerry seniors. For the past few years, virtually the whole panel has worn the county jersey at some grade. On current or recent Kerry seniors alone we've had Brian Kelly, Ronan Buckley, Jack Sherwood, Donal Down, James O'Donoghue, Paul O'Shea, Jonathan Lyne, Ruairi Murphy as well as Roche and the two Cliffords. The rest were all ex-Kerry minors or U21s. Other years EK had the Rathmore contingent, Murphy, Ryan, AOM. At one point they had two GAA POTYs in the full-forward line. Ridiculous, really, they'd be stronger than probably the majority of inter-county teams. Not unbeatable, of course, nobody is. .

Definitely messy. Had an issue at my club where a player fell out with trainer and wasn’t playing. Many of his friends played with neighbouring club in the same parish and he wanted to join them instead. He had to sit out a year before moving and there was a certain amount of bad blood about it. But when you stand back and think how unfair it is to stop someone from playing with his friends just because he (or more like his parents) made a choice when he was a child and now he wants to do something different.

I for one am delighted to see donal playing football with east kerry. He has been very unfortunate with injuries and dropped from the county panel. when kenmare district was disbanded tuosist and kilgarvan players should have been sent down to s kerry. Also for kerry selectors to say that div 5 football harmed his chances is nonsense as county panel members rarely or never play co league. they treated him very badly, he was on a sub for an all ireland final and then dropped totally off the panel for the following year.

I cannot imagine the Kerry selectors are all that bothered by Donal playing for Kilgarvan. There are actually positives to this.

Never been one for looking in the rear view mirror - the question I want answered is simply, has he progressed, is he now a viable and credible option inside with Kerry
His last league game was up in Salthill on a day he was easily bottled up in traffic and overturned.
Has he improved significantly similar to how much Tony Brosnan has improved.
A shuddering though struck me yesterday, Inter County players have a shelf life of ten years on average.. DC and Seanie came in to the panel in Eamon's last year in 2018.. that's six years ago... next year will be year seven of an average ten year tenure.. frightening to how much we have underachiever..

Enjoyable game between Brendan’s and Kiernans. It could have gone either way to be honest. Both teams went for it even if not always the highest quality. Most controversial moment was the Brendan’s penalty just before half time. It looked a foul but not the type of one you would ever give a penalty for. Kieran’s were understandably outraged and then Brendan’s got another goal early in the second half so a massive swing.
All the goals had an element of fortune really. Brendan’s are clearly a very strong physical team both in defence and attack. Kieran’s i thought had a bit more slickness in attack.
In the end anyone could have won it. Best player for me was Tomas Kennedy, while he took a few wrong options, he had a massive influence on the game and it was him that won the final free. He is some prospect.

Good game between St Kieran’s and Brendans. Could have gone either way. Kierans will not be happy with the very soft penalty given against them just before half time which really brought Brendans back into it. Brendans looked very good but only in patches. Kierans caused them a lot of bother at times. The high ball to the inside line was one definite area that teams will look to attack Brendans on.
I thought Armin Heinrich, Tomás Kennedy, Barry John and Colin Griffin were good for Brendans. Dylan Casey and Joe O’Connor didn’t do as well as you’d expect. Philip O’Connor, Cathal Brosnan, Seán O’Connell, Tadhg Brick were good for Kierans who will improve from this hopefully.
One other minor note - Darragh Keane from Ballymac came on for Kierans despite not being on the programme and was wearing 20. This has happened in a few games and needs to sorted.

Is Donal o sullivan legally allowed play with east Kerry. Tried transferring from Kilgarvan to kenmare so hasn’t played game for them all year so is even allowed play with east Kerry then. Also would he have paid his gaa membership to Kilgarvan oh he was seeking that transfer away Of course he can. Someone could have been injured and missed all of the county league and club championships but back for the county championship. As for paying club membership. It would be interesting to see how many club players actually pay membership with their club.

Armchair viewer of the games yesterday and fair dues to clubber for providing a great service, I thought the Kieran v Brendan game was well commentated on.
The first 2 games of the day went to script, with spa and Rathmore winning their battles of the losers, with Shane Ryan dictating matters for Rathmore ably assisted by Moynihan, WK were gallant in their efforts but just lacked the quality of Rathmore, the spa game also went to plan, na Gael with a goal near the end to put a gloss on the 5 point win for spa. Tobin was the go to man for spa, with foley commanding in the middle, na Gael never really got to the pace of the game. Kieran’s v Brendan’s always had the potential to be the game of the night, it also featured winners from the previous round where the other 2 games featured loser qualifiers. The teams were evenly matched through out the game and Kieran’s will feel disappointed with some ref decisions , but from the arm chair and advantage of replays, the ref got the big calls correct, might have been easy for the ref call a draw at the end, but the unfortunately for Kieran’s, the fouling all night was always getting punished with jack savage kicking. Tomas Kennedy motm, played well in around the box, with some great ball passed in by savage who pulled the strings for Brendan’s, some solid displays by Kieran’s, o Connel MF, Barry and walsh up front. Brendans will need to improve but with big Tommy walsh and Dave Moran to come back, the squad will get stronger, Kieran’s will still have a say in this championship, but will need to tighten up defensively.

It will be difficult for Jack to resist calling him to the senior squad - however, the Corn Uí Mhuiri, U20s, basketball & the small matter of the Leaving Cert will all have to come before this happens.

It would appear that ClubberTV is making a lot of us lazy, being tempted to stay at home rather than sit into the car. I decided to watch the East Kerry/Milltown Castleminae. match in that fashion. Tomas O’Hanafin was the commentator and a good one at that. The co-commentator was just of nuisance value. Shall remain nameless.
The match was fairly innocuous with East Kerry winning at their ease. They had it wrapped up at half time, 10 points to three. The second half was a case of completing the formalities. No goals were scored. In the early stages of the game when the ground rules were being laid down it was was Paudie from play and frees who set the tone. The brother was merely ambling about. He did get a couple of spectacular ones but largely had the day off.
Ruairi Murphy played the full game ,more or less , and it is gratifying to see him regain form.
Luke Crowley found it very difficult today against a very tenacious David Roche.
Paul O’Shea came on late in the game. We did not see enough of him.
What an utter shame that Cillian Burke is not available.

Nameless co commentator's sensationalism to the fore...Over emphasising a few possessions from the M/C full forward into East Kerry fullback having a poor game. This was amongst a number of idiotic interferences with the real commentator. I have to say I thought ó Hanafín's replies to his foolishness were very funny...very witty and took the sting out of his clowning.
