I agree with you 100 percent about big names not making good coaches. But it's good coaches we are looking for. Is there a shortage of them and does this mean that when Jack does leave the role we are in big trouble getting a management team? yes it appears we maybe in trouble alright...careful what ye wish for lads with the constant witchhunt against Jack, he knows how to win all irelands...... in between the 10 years we had without him, we won 1 all ireland and to be honest, came nowhere near winning the rest of them. Jack is the best man for the job and we need him to stay until a better option comes along, right now there isnt. Agree it's ridiculous at this stage players also take responsibility and county board. He has done great things for kerry ok he may have flaws but Kerry have been kick of a ball way for last while needs to freshen style of football but blaming all on him is ridiculous

This is my first post or comment on the speculation and debate on Jack O'Connor continuing as the Kerry senior manager, and hopefully I won't be commenting again until the end of July 2025. Does this mean that I'm happy with the style of play and the performances of Kerry at the moment? No, I'm not particularly happy with their style, or the performances, but I'll still support them. Does this mean that I think Jack will still be the manager until Kerry are either knocked out, or win the championship next year? Yes, i think that he'll be in place until then. I also think that Kerry can win Sam next year, but there are about 8 other counties that also think they can win it. It will be the most open championship in years. Would people have been happy if Kerry had overcome Armagh and then went on to beat Galway in the final this year, playing the same way? Yes, in general, I think that most people would have taken that. Winning trumps everything else in most people's eyes. If Kerry had played a more attacking and faster style of football over the last few years, would we have won more titles? There's no guarantee of that. We were the kick of a ball away from winning all of the matches which were lost, but its quiet possible that the gaps could have been even more if Kerry had played differently. We simply don't know! We can't change the past, or indeed predict the future. Yes, we'd all like to think that Kerry is the home of football, and that we can beat anybody when we're playing open attacking football with plenty of kicking. But that is delusional. There's no guarantee that anything would have been different if Kerry had played a more expansive style of football. Kerry have no more entitlement to be winning All Ireland titles than any other county. Every other county is putting in the same effort to win it as Kerry, and whoever wins it, does so on merit. Yes, mistakes have been made on the sideline during matches. Mistakes have also been made on the pitch by players during matches. Mistakes are made by referees during matches. That's sport! But, personally, I'm sick to my back teeth of the criticism that is being dished out to management, selectors, coaches, players, certain referees, and the county board, on this forum and on social media. Calling for people to either be removed from their posts or to resign isn't a nice way of living life. Sometimes, people should think before they post. Anything which is said online can have a negative effect on the person who is the subject of the post. These people have feelings, and I hope for their sake, that they don't read or take any notice of what is being posted about their abilities, decision making, honesty, integrity, and performances on and off the pitches of the country. The fact of the matter is that Jack is remaining on as the manager for 2025. His selectors and coaches will be in place shortly. The county board will announce things when everyone is in place. Jack has being watching the club championships closely, and will be watching the county championship closely. He'll have a squad of players in training before the year is out, with possibly some new players involved. Each and every one of those people involved will give 100% in trying to win Sam for themselves and for the people of Kerry next year. Let's get behind them, and try to help them to achieve their goal, by supporting and encouraging them in their endeavours, but if they don't achieve it, we should all show them a bit of respect, and appreciate the efforts and sacrifices that they make along the way. A very well written post Mg7w and you make some veru valid points. I am not Jack s biggest fan but its more his safety is my problem.Agree we might not have won more by being more attacking but we will never know that. However I always believe the old mantra "the best form of defense in attack" I have been a fan of Armagh for a while but felt they too were too negative at times waiting till behind to attack but they did show when they attacked in second half v Kerry that attack works.I actually posted this during the semi final saying Soupy Campbell and Jarly Og will cause us problems now that Armagh have to attack. The Kerry ladies played a very safety first game like Jacks teams the last two years but this year Declan and Darragh went for a more attacking game and we brought home the cup for the first time in 31 years. Of course we have to defend but go forward with more pace and give quicker ball into forwards. Some people say the goal we conceded v Dubs in last years final was just an error but we had the ball and instead of going forward we passed it backwards and it was intercepted. I agree that Jack is at the helm now again so lets just accept it and hope he comes with a more brave plan and his management team can help him out and we go on to better things again. I agree that if we won Sam this year playing the way we did I would have been delighted but I never felt we would and highlighted this after the Derry game.Anyway fair play to you and well said. Understandable but Jack shouldn't be disrespected he may have flaws or became too conservative bur still one of most respected coaches of last 20 tests and brought a lot success to Kerry .

He got criticised which understandable but still going on about it now is ridiculous Kerry weren't or aren't far I expect them to learn and not be far away if not winners next year

If it is that my auld pal Vet thinks JackO is less the culprit then we cross swords! JackO is ultimately responsible for 'playing with fear', etc and no sensible person is saying otherwise - all we now need is to stop playing musical chairs and appoint a new captain to avoid the iceberg before it is too late. Burke has jumped ship and maybe I'm being that eternal optimist by saying that could be the grain of rice that loses us an AI final - we may not get there. It wasn't the highest quality year and we were part of that, party to that -part of the dead wood. The all time greatest footballer nullified - SO'6 & co dead in their boots, what does it take to kick a liability out the door? Kerry GAA owes nobody anything and nobody is bigger than a community. We talk of the auld Ozzies with the likes of Tadhgeen stealing our jewels and here we are pushing the likes of Burke away, and that's the reality. Is JackO had the liathroidi he'd offer his resignation and TCB could either accept or reject - then we'd know where the rot lay! The community is feeling the pain and that will hurt as they lose interest. How many more would turnstile clicks would a vibrant team generate? Tomás and KD it is for me - the team is up and running so it is a steering job. Another year and it will be a rebuild that will force early returements,a nd all because of the pride of one man who's sell by date has expired. Bata agus bóthar it is and the longer we wait the longer it will before we welcome Sam - it could be 5 years before we get what was ours this year, and next! To play with abandon we must practice it and we know where to start!! Jack will not offer his resignation but tonight’s county board meeting could force his hand. Indications are, that the proposed new management team will NOT be ratified by the board - too many imponderables, James C the only certainty, much speculation around Pa McCarthy, Micheál O’Shea, Paddy Tally- believe the players are very unhappy with what’s unfolding. Already, 2 of this years panel, not starters have opted out - there are many now, who have doubts about the future with JO’C at the helm. Hear say and Burke was talk before that he could be before championship not confirmed. Jack may have flaws but all this rumours of players etc exaggerated

greengold 35, that is a very interesting and intriguing post. I suspect you know more than you are revealing which is understandable. As the China man used to say, we live in interesting times. Is binn béal ina thost!! No senior management team put forward for ratification ?? www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-41464405.htmlEverything a growing boy needs...

I'm thinking, is the reason Tomas & Quillnan got 1 year extensions due to the fact Jack is in his last year. Tomas to move up to senior and Quillnan into the U20 (all going well from their point of view) at the end of 2025.

Its a little eye-raising that, according to the Examiner's report, Declan, Star, Gooch and Seamus were seemingly approached to come on board but all passed up the offer.

Agree, another angle is, apart from Jack is there a ready replacement with experience that ticks all the boxes... With Tomás and Wayne already bedded in... who else is there... for me it's a case of better the devil you know, with a bit of tweaking on the fringes. I know some on here are calling for change at the top... but can those put forward a suitable and available candidate? cos I can't..

If true, it is disconcerting that Declan, KD, Colm Cooper and Seamus Moynihan refuses to join the management team. How does one interpret it? Too busy with other matters? Disillusionment with the style of football currently being practised by Jack? A belief that philosophy would not change irrespective of their presence and that they would be there to just rubber stamp more of the same? It depicts a depressing picture.
I am one of those who feel Jack should step aside on the grounds that he has become too rigid in his approach which allied to his innate conservatism gives one little optimism for 2025.
Now, it is legitimate to ask who would I nominate as a replacement. I am not sure. However, it is difficult to accept , in such a football mad county , that there isn’t someone with football nous , irrespective of his lack of intercounty experience , who could not assemble a formidable backroom team to steer our current panel to success, containing as it does some of the best footballers I have seen play for our county. What I am saying , is that a potent backroom team could be more pivotal than than the actual figurehead. Appoint somebody with the people skills not only to relate to the players but who also has the humility and the adroitness to respectfully delegate responsibility to members of his management team who have greater expertise than he in a particular area. In a way, his principal role is to act as a facilitator.
In summary , perhaps the secret is in the backroom team assembled rather than in the supremo. Extending that further, it maybe that some of the names mentioned ,who allegedly refused to come aboard under the current boss , might be persuaded to participate under somebody else.

As regards a suitable and available candidate, it is correct to say that we don’t have a Mick O’Dwyer from 1986 waiting in the wings but maybe we do have a Mick O’Dwyer from 1974 waiting in the wings. We don’t know until they get a chance and they don’t have to be a miracle worker to make it the right decision.
Management is about getting more out of 15 players than the sum of the parts. If he is only getting an amount equal to the sum of the parts he could be described as being “Okay”. I honestly believe that over the past 2 seasons, in Kerry’s important games, they have achieved less than the sum of the parts. So a new manager with the assistance of 2 selectors who just gets the sum of the parts in year 1 will have made progress and that can be achieved by just letting the players play their own game. He will be on good footing for years ahead (and based on the last couple of years will come very near the ultimate prize in year 1).

Gosh that's a very noble if extended response by mg72 and we will have to wait another 18 months for another bit of expert advice! I can't say I am hoping we will hear sooner as I wouldn't be at all happy with the tone or indeed content. The forum App tells us who comments on what and when so we hardly need to be to be emphasising that repeatedly to fellow members.
As I see it we are all looking for the same thing, well most of us anyway - Kerry to do our best and where even mg believes we are good enough - were good enough in '24?
mg states he is not happy with how things are going, style and results, but he will support the team - I'd think 99% of GAA folk do that, only traitors and spies do otherwise! As regards thinking JackO will stay, I don't think it is wrong to call out an injustice if that is what is going on. JackO is past it and youth and adults alike are suffering!
7 can win Sam in '25, 8 if we play without fear and which is 100% JackO's doing!
Re mg's 'Would people have been happy if Kerry had overcome Armagh and then went on to beat Galway in the final this year, playing the same way? Yes, in general, I think that most people would have taken that. Winning trumps everything else in most people's eyes.' - the same way isn't working, that's the issue - we'd all be happy if they won playing with abandon, not playing with, well fear!
You draw false conclusions that playing attacking football with gusto automatically opens cracks in our defence – did you now know that the best form of defence is attack?
It is delusional to think we would beat everyone everyday playing Kerry football - but we'd die in our boots, come back with or on our shields - not in need of psychotherapy to cure the fear, the guilt though the only wrong is doing what young impressionable men were told to do by those who should know better!
Only a fool denies that Kerry is an extraordinary force in Gaelic football – regardless of facts, and there are no facts, it is part of the local derby, that tribal culture that makes the GAA what it is; pride of place!
And stop blagging re sideline and player mistakes – there is only mistake here!
And you are sick of people pointing out this – ‘Calling for people to either be removed from their posts or to resign isn't a nice way of living life.’ As a Kerryman I am expressing my opinion as a paid up forum member, no more, no less! I respect JackO but does that mean that I will stand by and witness pain being inflicted on everyone else just because he want’s another year at the helm? Daithi O Shea openly declared last week that it is only a fool who thinks they are exempt from that ‘tap on the shoulder’ and JackO routinely uses the curly finger. Now you want to curly finger a county!
You are purposefully confusing abuse with fair comment and I wonder who gave you the power to insist that ‘The fact of the matter is that Jack is remaining on as the manager for 2025.’?
I always ‘show them a bit of respect, and appreciate the efforts and sacrifices that they make along the way.’ win lose or draw – but don’t try to silence the truth!
In fact I think your post is disgraceful and it is only having read it that I see how well engineered it is – are you a journalist who know how to roll ‘em?
I know how to roll ‘em back and I think that nobody is bigger than the whole community.
Only JackO and a few cronies don't want to accept the reality, but look, here's a halfway house solution - can JackO reveal who over ruled him last year and told players not to take on the shot? What is Holy God are Kerry men afraid of on a football field?
Look at how the ladies played and that was a mighty Galway team we beat into submission, the same way our boys were when old men told 'em not to play with a bit of gusto mojo abandon ala Paul Galvin The Playboy O'6s of The Western Kerry World, Eamon Breen .... Paidi, Horse, Deenihan .... hoors of footballers like Ballydonoghoor Liam Flaherty!
Ballyfireside, Ballydonoghoor Quote of the day ala JFK - We have nothing to fear, only fear itself - arise now Knocknagoshel, etc! Come is here Sam, welcome home, again!
Is Cuma le fear na mbróg cá leagann sé a chos - The man with the boots does not mind where he places his foot
Is fearr an troid ná an t-uaigneas - Conflict is preferable to loneliness ... fight we will for the company of Sam!
mg and JackO say - Is dána gach fear go tulaigh - Every man is brave until he reaches the battle

I'll ask posters to refrain from feuding with each other...make your points and expect others to disagree.
Calling each other names does not enhance your argument.
Shouting (by using all CAPITAL letters) is also frowned upon.
As is the game of changing a username in order to get around being ignored by other users.
Any posts deemed to offend will be deleted without hesitation or notification to the poster.
In short, any more shenanigans will lead to users and their IP addresses being banned permanently.
Thanks,
Control8

Ok, sorry control - btw I use only one name so why are other posters who abuse this not banned and shouldn't trolling posts be removed?
The reality is that the majority on here want rid of JackO and I agree and it is so obvious why - his ideology is old hat and I fear we will be annihilated by decent football counties as they know how we are going to set up.
The decision here will make a big difference not alone for next year but for many years to come and we don't want to invite another 11 year drought.
Airing an opinion is not being abusive - personalised attacks are. My comments are based on facts - we are losing to inferior sides and that won't change if we don't change how we work.

And I quote from above:
"You draw false conclusions...
It is delusional to think...
And stop blagging...
You are purposefully confusing abuse with fair comment...
In fact I think your post is disgraceful..."
If you spoke like that face-to-face, I'd be fairly certain you would find yourself alone very quickly (at best).
Please don't call it "debate" or tell me your comments are not being abusive.

RE You draw false conclusions that playing attacking football with gusto automatically opens cracks in our defence – did you now know that the best form of defence is attack?
This is a common belief that has now set in with us, and even JackO said it, but I don't think a team should play defensive to cover cracks. Though positional play is long on the wane there is such a thing as say 'a covering FB' that prevents a crack. What is crazy though is Jason having to end up FB at the other end of the field and while some defenders can do this with great effect when 'mates are covering, I'd draw the line at a roving FB - like a roving bodyguard or doorman, he is the last line of central defence but one!
If you take the ideology I disagree with to it's logical conclusion we are heading to 'puke football' and I don't think that is what we need to be doing. I never rated myself as a pundit but if nothing I am at least polite - is it that I am uncapping warts?
RE And stop blagging re sideline and player mistakes – there is only (one) mistake here! By that I mean I'd excuse such mistakes, be jazus but the man who never made mistakes never made anything. But now, it is a premeditated and inexcusable mistake to do the same thing and expect a different result, repeating mistakes is the definition of insanity.
Maybe more people should boycott me - yez are taking me far too seriously for the latchico I am, or am I a rare genius and yez are all jealous?
Loosen up - but don't take your eye off the ball; we are Kerry!
RE In fact I think your post is disgraceful..." I started to reply without reading the entire long article prior, and said that is desperation when I realised how far wide of the mark I thought it was heading, well wide of where I think the mark is? Ah maybe that word needed diluting, but hey, now that you get my drift am I entitled to a bit of slack vs our 18 month wonders - wan word and I'm Bad Man Bally .. I'm goin' to cry!!!
Wasn't the gaeilge apt though?
As Mary John B used to say - Put on our shop smile and hoor it!

You post like nobody has the right to reply.
That's your style, so fair enough I suppose.
But do not put other posters, or their opinions, down.
Simple enough request really.

think the fact that the term being offered is only 1 year, is the most likely reason why those lads would have turned down coming on board.
overall however, one would be very close to jack so probably jsut cant commit, one would have his eyes on the bigger prize, one probably has 0 interest/hasnt the time to commit and the other has other things to be doing.

In response to what was said above:
HS refers to the Hoganstand.com forum I think, can't be 100% as I didn't refer to it but that would be my guess.
In regards Jack, as far as I can see he is gonna be Kerry manager for 2025 as he would have left by now otherwise. Unless something serious happens that prompts him to leave but that is unlikely.
We all respect Jack for what he has done and whether people like it or not he has brought success and All Irelands to Kerry, however, his latest spell as manager has seen him try to adapt to a brand of football that doesn't suit the players we have and it doesn't sit well with a large pool of Kerry supporters.
Jack has always done his own thing regardless of opinion, there are many players who would have the ability to be in the panel who aren't due to the fact they either don't get on with Jack or don't want to be part of the culture that Jack is bringing to this Kerry team. Or even that Jack doesn't see them as a suitable fit to his latest style of play.
Yes, he is bringing new selectors in to the setup and in my opinion there are better options out there than what is due to come in but the reality is that Jack runs a VERY tight ship and he needs certain personnel to be a part of that ship.
Do I think we'll see major changes from Kerry in 2025 (in personnel or tactic), No I don't, but at the same time I'm willing to see what he can conjure up in his last year (and I'm pretty sure it will be his last year) and regardless I will give my support to the team because at the end of the day I'm a Kerry man and they are the only team/county I can/will follow.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Not saying any other opinion is right or wrong because everyone is entitled to one but that is just my opinion.
My next priority is to see what happens in County/Club Championships (which have been so far, a lot more enjoyable than the past intercounty season) and then look forward to next intercounty season in the new year.
In regards to the fellas who turned down the role, I think all those names mentioned would be more attracted in the future when a manager they didn't play under is over the team and I can see all the names mentioned as having the potential of getting involved. I personally would love to see Gooch involved (even though Crokes are a fierce rival to my own club), I never saw a football brain like his and that will definitely count for A LOT on the sideline. Maybe/Hopefully in the future.

I notice the troll comments are still displayed while I largely acquitted myself and my considered views were removed.
I was forthright because we are sleepwalking over a cliff - Like others I'll support Kerry regardless but there will be a falloff as the fair weathers psyche will be comforted when they realise we have fair weather criteria in management. Kerry supporters are criticised for only going to AI finals so we are feeding into that too.
I think it is sad we are having the conversation and then treading egg shells as we do. I hope nobody says 'we told you so' come next season.
And lest anyone forget, JackO was vocal in pointing to 'flaws' in PKs tactics - remember! So why do we have to apologise for calling out genuine shortcomings that are clearly JackO's?

Some people love the sound of their own voice. That's human nature. Can't stop that. As for next year unless someone outstanding steps forward we are where we are. It's up to Jack to prove that he has what it takes and unless he's replaced I will be 100% behind him. He's done his best for us. I doubt Micko wasn't the kind of man to doubt himself..

Jack needs to sacrifice the league next spring give the better lads an extended rest and give 7/8 of the stand outs younger players all the league games to show what they can do not a half here or 10 minutes there still would rather he wasn’t manager next year hopefully he gets good men with him just not sure if he wants guys with an opinion different to his

I'd be concerned if Jack is struggling to get a management team together..like do people want to fall in for one year and is that a reason why they won't commit. We're in a position where we can't afford to write off any year..this might need a strong hand to dictate what's going to happen in 2025.

I think jack is smart enough to know he is old fashioned and wants to surround himself with young coaches to keep the players onside and keep the training/coaching on point with the athlete of today. Underneath it all it's all a game to gain more credibility amongst themselves so they can feel he is the right man. I used know a surgeon who used surround himself with great nurses and junior doctors and used never lay a finger on the patient. He was a man manager really not a surgeon. Jack is that surgeon, I can't tell if it's the right way of approaching it or all a game to cover one's limitations. Maybe the great managers do this in life's avenues.

My point is maybe division I is 'too' competitive and every game is too intense so as a result come white heat of Croker you're mentally and physically drained - whereas of you operated in Div II you could time your run and be fresh for a run in... there are merits too for player development.. getting relegated isn't the be all and end all it new players are unearthed... we all talked about our c'ship record in Killsrnry going back to 95... no one cares now since Mayo best us... often big records are a noose around the neck
