Word around is that James Costello (Pats Blennerville) & Pa McCarthy (Currow) are being brought for ratification at the next County board meeting. Heard it's happening tomorrow night, but could be wrong.

What's really missing is the intercounty Junior championship where a plethora of up and coming starlets would be "inside" with the seniors on a somewhat regular basis.

Just read in the examiner that James Cos is expected to be confirmed to be on Jacks ticket.. so looks like that's just awaiting rubber stamping... That's a little underwhelming

Jack knows what he is doing, he is the 2nd most successfull manager in our history and one of the most successful in the entire history of the GAA. dont get why some people here are dead against him, no matter what he does people will complain.

I agree that the junior competition was a great grooming source for Kerry but it appears that most other counties did not appreciate its worth. Hence its demise. A pity from our standpoint.

Only a fool would try to minimize Jack’s contribution to Kerry football. It has been huge. However, I think a lot of people feel he has become somewhat stale. That happens with longevity in every walk of life. The following is in no way meant to belittle Jack’s contribution but it is incorrect to say he is our second most successful manager, if by that you are referring to senior All-Irelands won. The most successful manager accolade is shared jointly by Mick O’Dwyer and Dr. Eamon O’Sullivan, both with eight . Incidentally, Dr. Eamon lost only one final , 1964. An amazing record. So, Jack comes third in the hit parade. A position not to be denigrated I assure you.

County board will need to explain the process of the departures and appointments in a transparent manner as the whole process seems rushed and hurried .How many names were interviewed for the positions who refused the roles as various names have been mentioned .This is the least the Kerry public should know and I hope the delegates ask these hard questions at the meeting .I admire Jack and have backed him on this forum previously but the whole process smacks of desperation and I wonder were the senior players management group consulted.in any event I wish the new appointments well and I am sure they will do well it is the whole process and the manner of the departures especially that does not sit well .

Just read in the examiner that James Cos is expected to be confirmed to be on Jacks ticket.. so looks like that's just awaiting rubber stamping... That's a little underwhelming Maybe so but in a perverse way, I half disagree. If true, this new selector has managed our minors for three years, these players are now early 20's and should be making inroads to a senior set up. In this regards he may be the ideal fit, in addition, he does have one year of being a selector at intercounty level under his belt, ok some might say "only Clare", but that for me is immaterial, it is still intercounty experience. The man was also a surprise nomination when he took over from Peter Keane at minor level, if my memory is correct, even thought that was the end of the minor five in a row, teams under his governance played tight defensively but attractive attacking ball. If we step back and actually look at the credentials, one can see the merits. If we look back over the last decade or so, all our selectors were on the field winners, but apart from Sugrue and Mike Quirke, very little had sideline experience outside club level... this lad has... I'm not advocating or saying it would be my first choice, but I can see the reasoning and merits behind the possible inclusion.

Lads I don’t see any Que forming outside county board head quarters looking to become part of the kerry senior management team. Lots of guys mentioned, we would like to see involved, maybe there not ready, maybe there not wanted, we don’t know, but some clarity would be great from the CB, but respectful of people decision is also important. Again, the roles we are talking about I assume are selector roles, guys that can ensure we have the best squad, after that, the team usually picks itself. If your looking for different strategies that should come from the coaching staff, is that Tally, don’t get me wrong the management team all have a part to play, and a change is required, no doubt.
Time for clarity and who ever gets the role, all the best, everybody in there to do the best for kerry football.

Is there a shortage of them and does this mean that when Jack does leave the role we are in big trouble getting a management team?

Jack is the best man for the job and we need him to stay until a better option comes along, right now there isnt.

Jack has been accused of many things but taking Kildare backwards is stretching it. He left them in division 1 and got to a Leinster final. They would take that now.

I don't think anyone on here has anything personally against Jack. I certainly don't. I have never met him or spoken with him. Trying to personalise the discussion takes the focus off of the real problem, Kerry's failure to win games, games that they should be winning. And it is not anyone's opinion, the scoreboard shows that they lost.
Games they should be winning: In the drawn AIF 2019 against Dublin Sean O'Shea, as a 21 year old scored 10 points, an incredible achievement for such a young player as the record is 12 points. In 2023 against more or less the same Dublin team in their last legs he scored 5 points. In the semi final this year he scored 4 points. Also why was the fastest wing back in football, Gavin White turning back to his own goals last year when he should have been bursting forward. It handed Dublin the game. Players are not playing their natural games. This means that there is no fast creative football. So playing an alien game of slow ultra cautious football, Kerry are still coming to within a couple of points of winning. What we want to see is what would the result be if the were left off the leash. If the freedom is worth 3 points then it is almost certain we would have won the last 2 All-Irelands and would now be going for 4 in a row.

Kildare have been in division one regularly and many Kildare managers have brought them to division one including Glen Ryan. Also Kildare have been in many Leinster finals as have Westmeath Louth Offaly and Meath but under Jack Kildare were beaten easoly by Dubs in Leinster final and Jack said it was great Kildare were only bestrn by 8 points (a comment that angered many Kildare supporters) Also Kildare were destroyed by a weak Meath team in the Leinster semi final in 2020 .

Paddy Tally one of those mentioned to take over in Tyrone! I wish you the best of luck, Paddy. If it is that my auld pal Vet thinks JackO is less the culprit then we cross swords! JackO is ultimately responsible for 'playing with fear', etc and no sensible person is saying otherwise - all we now need is to stop playing musical chairs and appoint a new captain to avoid the iceberg before it is too late. Burke has jumped ship and maybe I'm being that eternal optimist by saying that could be the grain of rice that loses us an AI final - we may not get there. It wasn't the highest quality year and we were part of that, party to that -part of the dead wood. The all time greatest footballer nullified - SO'6 & co dead in their boots, what does it take to kick a liability out the door? Kerry GAA owes nobody anything and nobody is bigger than a community. We talk of the auld Ozzies with the likes of Tadhgeen stealing our jewels and here we are pushing the likes of Burke away, and that's the reality. Is JackO had the liathroidi he'd offer his resignation and TCB could either accept or reject - then we'd know where the rot lay! The community is feeling the pain and that will hurt as they lose interest. How many more would turnstile clicks would a vibrant team generate? Tomás and KD it is for me - the team is up and running so it is a steering job. Another year and it will be a rebuild that will force early returements,a nd all because of the pride of one man who's sell by date has expired. Bata agus bóthar it is and the longer we wait the longer it will before we welcome Sam - it could be 5 years before we get what was ours this year, and next! To play with abandon we must practice it and we know where to start!!

After Jack left Glen Ryan (a massive failure by Kildare fans views) brought Kildare to the Leinster final. The following year he brought them to Leinster semi final where they were beaten by Dublin by 2 points. The same amoumt Dublin beat us by a few weeks later in All Ireland final. Jack was not deemed a success in Kildare.

Indications are, that the proposed new management team will NOT be ratified by the board - too many imponderables, James C the only certainty, much speculation around Pa McCarthy, Micheál O’Shea, Paddy Tally- believe the players are very unhappy with what’s unfolding. Already, 2 of this years panel, not starters have opted out - there are many now, who have doubts about the future with JO’C at the helm.

This is my first post or comment on the speculation and debate on Jack O'Connor continuing as the Kerry senior manager, and hopefully I won't be commenting again until the end of July 2025.
Does this mean that I'm happy with the style of play and the performances of Kerry at the moment? No, I'm not particularly happy with their style, or the performances, but I'll still support them. Does this mean that I think Jack will still be the manager until Kerry are either knocked out, or win the championship next year? Yes, i think that he'll be in place until then. I also think that Kerry can win Sam next year, but there are about 8 other counties that also think they can win it. It will be the most open championship in years. Would people have been happy if Kerry had overcome Armagh and then went on to beat Galway in the final this year, playing the same way? Yes, in general, I think that most people would have taken that. Winning trumps everything else in most people's eyes. If Kerry had played a more attacking and faster style of football over the last few years, would we have won more titles? There's no guarantee of that. We were the kick of a ball away from winning all of the matches which were lost, but its quiet possible that the gaps could have been even more if Kerry had played differently. We simply don't know! We can't change the past, or indeed predict the future. Yes, we'd all like to think that Kerry is the home of football, and that we can beat anybody when we're playing open attacking football with plenty of kicking. But that is delusional. There's no guarantee that anything would have been different if Kerry had played a more expansive style of football. Kerry have no more entitlement to be winning All Ireland titles than any other county. Every other county is putting in the same effort to win it as Kerry, and whoever wins it, does so on merit.
Yes, mistakes have been made on the sideline during matches. Mistakes have also been made on the pitch by players during matches. Mistakes are made by referees during matches. That's sport!
But, personally, I'm sick to my back teeth of the criticism that is being dished out to management, selectors, coaches, players, certain referees, and the county board, on this forum and on social media. Calling for people to either be removed from their posts or to resign isn't a nice way of living life. Sometimes, people should think before they post. Anything which is said online can have a negative effect on the person who is the subject of the post. These people have feelings, and I hope for their sake, that they don't read or take any notice of what is being posted about their abilities, decision making, honesty, integrity, and performances on and off the pitches of the country.
The fact of the matter is that Jack is remaining on as the manager for 2025. His selectors and coaches will be in place shortly. The county board will announce things when everyone is in place. Jack has being watching the club championships closely, and will be watching the county championship closely. He'll have a squad of players in training before the year is out, with possibly some new players involved. Each and every one of those people involved will give 100% in trying to win Sam for themselves and for the people of Kerry next year. Let's get behind them, and try to help them to achieve their goal, by supporting and encouraging them in their endeavours, but if they don't achieve it, we should all show them a bit of respect, and appreciate the efforts and sacrifices that they make along the way.
