Top two in each of the three groups move forward, with two of the group winners going straight to the semi-final.
The third group winner and the three second placed teams play two quarter-finals, set for 9 October.
There could be some very good games - hopefully spectators will be allowed.

Looking forward to seeing how the North Kerry team perform. There's plenty of talent in north kerry in my opinion but I think we need to relook at our coaching structures. Easier said than done but I think the county teams could benefit massively if we could get our house in order.

1st round of the Minor County Championship is on Saturday. Should be good games including a local derby between Laune Rangers and Mid Kerry. Should be a good game as Laune Rangers are the top club side at the moment.

Have Laune Rangers good numbers coming through at all age levels or is there just a particular good group at minor level?

I’ll throw down some predictions for the games …
Brendans to beat Glenflesk East Kerry to beat kenmare district West Kerry to beat Crokes Kierans to beat stacks North kerry to beat south kerry Laune rangers to beat mid kerry
I’ve watched Brendans board play 3 challenges games with a win and a lost against north Kerry and a win over st kierans, i can see them going all the way this year really strong lineout aswell as bench to back it up them or north Kerry would be my favourite

Remember top 2 in each group go forward. Round 2 Sat. 25th September Mid Kerry v North Kerry, South Kerry v Laune Rangers: Winner in Mid Kerry/North Kerry clash will be in great shape - especially if it is Mid Kerry as they will face South Kerry in Rd 3. Laune Rangers to win and set up a must win game against North Kerry in Rd 3. Dr. Crokes v Austin Stacks, St. Kieran's v West Kerry: Dr. Crokes and St. Kieran's to solidify their rankings as the top 2 in this group, with the winner of their Rd 3 clash topping the group, while loser will still progress, more than likely. Kenmare District v St. Brendan's Board, Glenflesk v East Kerry: Glenflesk are in a must-win scenario in the local derby, while St. Brendan's Board could be in a very strong position. Could we see three teams on two wins apiece...or draws might send the top spots to scoring difference?
Any reports on the first round games?

I assume it didn't happen due to time constraints. It's a pity because it would have been a good competition. The clubs did well in Round 1. Glenflesk and Laune Rangers came very close. Dr Crokes had a big win. Austin Stacks have struggled with numbers in recent weeks.

I was at the glenfesk and brendans game. The glenfesk lads fought very hard and were very unlucky not to come out on top

Report of Glenflesk v st Brendans game (Glenflesk Facebook page)
County Minor Football Championship Group 3 St Brendan’s 1 – 9 Glenflesk 0 – 11 Championship football at its purest was produced in Blennerville this afternoon, after a late goal from the home side proved decisive, as lasts years beaten finalists just got the better of a fiercely determined Glenflesk side, who were within touching distance of a famous victory. It was Glenflesk who got off to the better start, with Jamie Moynihan linking well with Dylan Roche, who opened the scoring with a classy point. Roche’s long distance free doubled the lead soon after. St Brendan’s were caught off guard by Glenflesk’s ferocity in the tackle, and had the ball turned over regularly in the early stages. Full forward Darragh O Connor pointed a free to get them off the mark. They began to find their range, with Ben Hanafin and Eddie McCarthy both scoring from far out. They were denied a goal when Jack O Donoghue made a great save. This left St Brendan’s two points up at the water break, after a terrific start to the game. Center forward Danny Hennessy increased the lead soon after. Glenflesk responded by producing some of their best football of the match. John Kelleher drove forward to score two quick points, helped by good play from Stephen Moynihan. Callam Cronin pointed when a goal chance looked possible, as Glenflesk’s period of dominance saw them score five points without reply. Two free’s from O Connor meant the teams went in at half time level, after 30 minutes of hard physical football. The second half continued in the same way, with space at a premium, and the tackling ferocious. O Connor slotted over another free to put St Brendan’s ahead, but Roche replied with another monster free of his own. St Brendan’s had another goal chance, but the ball smacked back off the crossbar. From the rebound, O Donoghue again denied them with another save. As the game entered its final quarter, the sides could not be separated. Glenflesk had held on in the game since half time, despite St Brendan’s having more pocession. They began to belief that a huge victory was within their grasp. Luke Crowley’s magnificent point put them back ahead. Roche then found room near the goal to point with his left foot. The tension was now starting to become unbearable as the game entered its closing stages. Sean O Connor pointed for St Brendan’s from a tight angle. Another Roche free put Glenflesk two ahead again. Then came the score that decided the game. After bringing the ball patiently up field, St Brendans launched a high ball towards the Glenflesk goal. Corner forward Odhran Ferris collected it, and just about got enough on his shot to find the net. There was still a good seven minutes of play after this, but Glenflesk could not create the opportunity needed to salvage a draw. A superb performance from the Minors who went back to Blennerville and didn’t take a backward step all day. The tackling was superb, very few chances were wasted, and every ball was fought for with huge desire. A team that is a credit to the players and management. You only had to look at the relief on the St Brendans players after to know what sort of match they had just took part in. East Kerry await at home in Glenflesk next Saturday. The team can go in that match confident in their performance, and ready to compete hard again. Team 1. Jack O Donoghue, 2. Ignatius O Leary, 3. Ben Switzer, 4. Jack Kenneally, 5. Sean Guerin, 6. Eoin Kelly, 7. Darragh O Connor, 8. Darra McCormack, 9. John Kelleher 0 – 2, 10. Cian Lynch, Liam O Donoghue, Evan Lucey, Donal Murphy, Cathan Harrington, Gearoid Healy, Diurmuid Furlong, Cormac Tangney, Oran Horgan, Evan Kennelly, Brian O Connor, Oisin Lynch.

What's the reason for the drop-off in numbers? From what I hear they have injuries to key players. Their last league game was also delayed for quite a while due to Covid.

Mid Kerry beating North Kerry and Stacks beating Crokes were surprise results. Laune Rangers game vs South Kerry was abandoned due to an injury to a player. Thankfully it seems the injured player is out of hospital.

25 Sept Rd 1 results:
Group 1...Mid Kerry 1-11 North Kerry 1-9; South Kerry/Laune Rangers game not finished.
Group 2...Austin Stacks 8-11 Dr. Crokes 2-4; St. Kieran's 7-32 West Kerry 0-6.
Group 3...East Kerry 3-12 Glenflesk 3-7; St. Brendan's Board 4-20 Kenmare District 2-10.
Standings with score difference - I'm not sure of the tie-breaking rules, but I'll include score difference in case it's a factor:
Group 1: Mid Kerry 4 points +3, North Kerry 2 points, +12, Laune Rangers (1 game played) 0 points, -1, South Kerry (1 game played) 0 points -14.
Group 2: St. Kieran's 4 points +71, Austin Stacks 2 points 0, Dr. Crokes 2 points -5, West Kerry 0 points -66.
Group 3: East Kerry 4 points +19, St. Brendan's Board 4 points +17, Glenflesk 0 points -6, Kenmare District 0 points -30.
Rd 3 Fixtures Sat. 2nd October 2021, subject to confirmation and pending the South Kerry/Laune Rangers refixture:
Group 1: Laune Rangers v North Kerry, Mid Kerry v South Kerry. Mid Kerry guaranteed top spot with a draw or better, North Kerry finish second with a win, Laune Rangers finish second with a win and a win in the refixed game against South Kerry, South Kerry need two wins to progress.
Group 2: West Kerry v Austin Stacks, Dr. Crokes v St. Kieran's. St. Kieran's top the group with a draw or better, Austin Stacks progress with a better result than Dr. Crokes, Dr. Crokes progress with a better result than Austin Stacks, West Kerry need a win and a Dr. Crokes loss to be even on points with Austin Stacks and Dr. Crokes.
Group 3: East Kerry v St. Brendan's Board, Kenmare District v Glenflesk. East Kerry play St. Brendan's Board to decide first and second place. Neither Kenmare District nor Glenflesk can progress.
If anyone can clarify the rules to break ties (Kerry GAA Officer, maybe?), we'd all be thankful. The 2021 Eolaire doesn't appear to address the issue.
