Whatever about moving the semi final, not playing the final on September 5th is a farce - a Saturday evening All Ireland Final is not convenient for anyone except Dublin. The LGFA should be told when they book Croke Park for finals that in the event of a draw in the hurling or football, then their game is switched to the Saturday. I disagree. They booked it fair and square, don't take bookings if you can't honor them. The time of the game on the Saturday should be around 3pm and not 6pm. The TV audience be damned. I remember similar happening in 2012. Kerry v Cork in the ladies football final on the 30th September, moved to 7th October because of the Hurling final replay between Galway and Kilkenny. It changed after that and the Hurling final replay between Cork and Clare the following year took place on the Saturday with the ladies football finals taking place as originally scheduled the following day.

There would be uproar if the LGFA were asked to move. With #metoo etc it would look very bad for the gaa. Especially at a time when a lot of clubs are adopting the one club policy.

Presume this will mean extra tickets will be available to the two competing counties as the U20 will not be the curtain raiser - just looking for some positives!!! Should be a good atmosphere in Dublin that weekend with the Hurling final the following day and the soccer in the Aviva. I'd assume 40,000 will now be available.

I couldn't imagine the Dublin and Mayo county boards would be too happy if they were only granted 24,000 tickets for their Semi while Kerry & Tyrone would be given 40,000. Just to keep everyone happy I imagine the 24,000 capacity will be kept, I'm just happy there will be 8,000 extra tickets for us as I think thats the cut the Offaly & Roscommon county boards were being given (4,000 each)for the U20 final.

So by the time of the finals more people would be vaccinated therfore more could attend. 24k allowed on a Sat and 40k on the Sunday is daft in my opinion.

Yes that is true but I'm sure it is safer to have 2 40,000 events then it would 3 40,000 events in such a short space of time. I'm just guessing but that would make sense if special permission was granted to have 40,000 at the two finals only.

Tyrone may not be able to field a team against Kerry despite semi-final delay Tyrone GAA chairman Michael Kerr has revealed a request for a two-week deferment of the fixture was turned down by GAA chiefs
Tyrone may not be able to field a team against Kerry despite semi-final delay MON, 09 AUG, 2021 - 23:00
FRANCIS MOONEY AND PAUL KEANE Tyrone may not be in a position to field a team for the All-Ireland semi-final against Kerry on the rescheduled date of August 21, it has emerged.
The necessity to adhere to medical guidance around isolation and return to play protocols will prove extremely challenging for Tyrone, with players from the last cohort of Covid cases due to end their isolation just before the clash with the Munster champions.
County chairman Michael Kerr has revealed a request for a two-week deferment of the fixture was turned down by GAA chiefs.
A difficult decision will have to be made which could lead to a withdrawal from the All-Ireland series, he warned.
“The welfare of the players is paramount. The management will not be making a decision until this weekend on whether we will be capable of fulfilling the fixture,” he said.
He expressed concern that fulfilling the fixture as it stands could be in contravention the of return to play protocol and may not be compliant with medical advice.
The protocol, agreed by the Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales Institute of Sport, and published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, recommends a 17-day gap between the end of an isolation period and a resumption of normal training.
“This is about player welfare, and it’s clear that our players will not be ready to engage in a high-intensity Championship game so soon after being directly affected by this virus.”
The Tyrone chairman added: “We are also conscious of the fact that the situation is not an ideal one for Kerry, and the uncertainty creates difficulties for their preparations for this important game.”
Kerr questioned Croke Park’s position on limiting the postponement to one week.
“They have decided that the final should be pushed no further back than Saturday the fourth of September — but if something similar was to happen in the meantime to any of the two panels competing in the final, that date would disappear into the twilight as well.”
He said the effects of Covid-19 and the varying isolation periods required for different squad members makes it impossible to prepare adequately for an All-Ireland semi-final.
“While we appreciate the postponement, which now allows us to be able to field a team, our request to have the match put back until the following weekend would have allowed us to be able to field a team that would be properly prepared and be in a position to do itself justice in an All-Ireland semi-final.
“We are grateful to have the opportunity to be able to field but, by the same token, disappointed that Croke Park have not given us sufficient time to prepare a proper challenge for Kerry.”
Kerry GAA chairman Tim Murphy believes there was no option but to postpone the semi-final. Speaking on Radio Kerry’s Terrace Talk, Murphy revealed that Kerry learned of the full extent of the situation before lunch on Monday.
“From our point of view, of course it’s a disappointment,” said Murphy. “All your preparations were geared towards the game next Sunday. Likewise for supporters, travel arrangements, booking accommodation, etc, but in an overall scale, the situation in Tyrone was of such a scale that I don’t think the GAA, to be fair, had any option but to offer a postponement because they literally would not have been able to fulfil the fixture.”

What a mess but unsurprising given nearly all cases are now occurring in the same age group as inter county players

The situation in Tyrone is awful and hopefully it's not too serious people's health comes first.
If Tyrone players are only coming out of quarantine a day or two before the game I would expect that the GAA can provide Kerry with complete assurance that the game can proceed safely.

I see online that Tyrone originally requested a 2 week delay. As royalkerryfan has said I hope the GAA can provide the assurances needed to the Kerry team that they are not at risk of contracting it on the field of play. Maybe given the seriousness of the outbreak in Tyrone the squad and management should undergo antigen tests the morning of the game. I am aware of the debate surrounding the effectiveness of antigen testing but, all precautions should be taken.
With over 1,000 cases in NI today their incidence rate is nearly 4 times that of the south.

Have any details been released of how many of the panel have covid and how many are close contacts?

No, I don't think there will either due to privacy and patient confidentiality etc. Have seen somewhere that in total 21 members of the panel and management were self isolating. How true that is I don't know.

Lads,
Might there be just a faint whiff of yerra about this? Ok, maybe I'm just cynical but in any case Kerry need to be careful not to get distracted or suckered here. Prepare and play as if it's a full strength and fully-firing Tyrone coming to Dublin; tune out the rest of it. They won't be turning up just to fulfil the fixture.

On the day before the game they lost 2 from the starting lineup and 2 from the subs to covid but went ahead v Kilkenny.

Am I right in saying that the Tyrone County Board issued a statement yesterday evening welcoming the match being postponed by a week. What has happened in the meantime to change that view? I predicted this scenario on the Forum last week when Cork got their U20 match postponed in spite of Tyrone footballers and Dublin hurlers having been forced to play with depleted teams. I am not sure what the solution is. Could Donegal or Monaghan be nominated to replace Tyrone . Kerry supporters of course are upset over this but our management and players must be totally confused- game postponed for a week, now a possible two week postponement or perhaps no match at all.

First of all our players and management deserve huge credit for how they've managed Covid so far.Half of Ireland is in Kerry and the players are virus free(so far touchwood)..which cannot be said for Tyrone. Secondly what in the present situation is going to change between here and the weekend. If they're threatening to forfeit do it now and don't waste another week. Kerry need to stay focused on their job and let Tyrone do all the flapping and winging.

If Tyrone forfeit the game Kerry will be six weeks without a match going into a game where their opponents will have had a tough (I am anticipating) semi final two weeks earlier. Not in any way ideal preparation.

It seems strange that players and the support team are not vaccinated at this stage, I wonder if the Kerry outfit have been vaccinated at this stage as if not then we will almost certainly experience the same fate with the numbers climbing daily and considering the amount of people visiting the county at this time of the year. Someone said to me that in the north they used the Astra Zeneca vaccine and because of the age profile of the team it was probable that they w Oulil have only received their first vaccine and therefore would be susceptible to the delta variant.
It is a difficult issue to deal with for both teams more so obviously for Tyrone but I hope they manage to fulfil the fixture in saying that if they don’t play it would be difficult to have such a lengthy period without a significant game before the All Ireland and would not serve us well.

I have no sympathy with Tyrone. They got Covid earlier in the campaign and now again. To do it once is bad but to do it twice is careless. Such carelessness should not be tolerated. There are standards to be followed and some of the players ignored them. I'm sure lost of players in club and county would love to go and enjoy themselves. But NO. The fear of Covid and missing games is too important. Hopefully all Kerry players and officials are avoiding Covid.

Kerry must insist on a game being played.
Kerry can't sleepwalk into an All Ireland having not played in CP in 2 years.
Absolutely no way can that be allowed to stand.
The integrity of the competition must be seen to held up.
I feel sorry for Tyrone and I don't subscribe to them not being careful as that reflects on anyone who got that awful illness and that's not right at all.

I would want us to have proper prep time. I think the game should be out back by 2 weeks otherwise one of the 3 scenarios below play out... 1. Tyrone are replaced by another team (can't see this happening BTW) who are out of intercounty football and have possibly "drank a small lake" (brilliant line BTW). 2. We play (and presumably beat) Tyrone B/Tyrone u20s and then play Mayo/Dublin in the final and we are undercooked. 3. We play (and presumable beat) Tyrone who have not had group training in a few weeks, see point 2 above! I want us to get to a final having being properly tested.
