Congress has come and gone with little discussion - we have a new President of the association and a few rule changes. Of the rule changes - Giving ref's even more judgemental powers that could decide the out come of a game is a very risky one. A ref will have the power to award a penalty if a cynical foul denies a goal scoring opportunity. Maybe someone has the exact wording but it seems strange that this additional power requiring a multi dimensional and arbitrary decision is being hands to already overburdened and often inconsistent referees. And it only seems to apply to a goal opportunity, our game has points too that can be crucial in the dying moments of a close game. This has the potential to be the topic of many a heated debate in the coming months and years methinks.

Any thoughts on Pat Falveys appointment?
Performance coach?
Incredible man climbing the 7 peaks but how that translates to football is hard to fathom.

That’s the nature of left field calls, the end result will completely drive the narrative. If it works then it will be seen as being inspired and if not then it will be seen as PK losing the plot. I’m skeptical enough about it to be honest but it’s done now so hopefully it ends up being an inspired move

It's very hard at it the moment. I think the last 2 months have been the toughest so far. If the GAA do play the national league it will likely be in May which will certainly be interesting I think.

By Kevin O'Brien.
THE GAA HAS unveiled the revised 2021 Masters Fixtures Plan for the club and county seasons. For inter-county hurling, the Allianz Hurling League starts on the weekend of 8/9 May with a minimum of five games for each county.
The provincial Leinster and Munster championships will start on 26/27 June with a backdoor for beaten teams. The All-Ireland hurling final is fixed for 21/22 August.
For inter-county football, the Allianz Football League starts on the weekend of 15/16 May with a minimum of four games for each county.
The provincial championships start on 26/27 June in a straight knock-out format without qualifiers. The All-Ireland football final is down for decision on 28/29 August. London and New York will not take place in league or championship this year.
The GAA has yet to make a decision on dates for this year’s minor and U20 championships, in addition to the 2020 competitions that are still outstanding.
Club championships can commence once the county has been eliminated from the championship. A club-only window will run from 4/5 September and provincial club championships will begin from 20/21 November.

GAA announce revised Master Fixtures Calendar for 2021 Thursday 8 April 2021 By John Harrington
The GAA today released its updated Master Fixtures Calendar for the 2021 season.
The inter-county season will run from the weekend of May 8th/9th with the start of the Allianz Hurling League, to the weekend of August 28/29 when the All-Ireland Football Final will be played. The Provincial Football and Hurling championships will commence on the weekend of June 26/27.
The County and Provincial Club Championships will be played in the months of September, October, November, and December with the All-Ireland Club Finals scheduled for February 2022. Club championships can begin once the county has been eliminated from the championship.
The entire inter-county fixtures programme will be run off in a 20-week period and guarantees a minimum of five games for each Senior County Football and Hurling team with all bar three counties guaranteed six games in hurling.
2021 Allianz Football League
The Allianz Football League will from the weekend of May 15/16 to the weekend of June 19/20 with Divisions split into North and South as originally planned in December.
Four teams will be in each group based on geography with three Round Robin games per team. The top two in each divisional group will advance to the league semi-finals followed by a league final.
The bottom two in each divisional group will play relegation semi-finals with the two losers of those matches relegated. The bottom teams in Division 4 will play a Shield semi-final and final.
League finals will only be played on June 19/20 if counties involved are not playing in the championship the following weekend. If they are, then joint winners will be declared for Division 1 and joint winners and promotion for Divisions 2, 3, and 4.
London will not be participating in the 2021 Allianz Football League.
2021 Allianz Hurling League
Divisions 1 and 2 of the Allianz Hurling League will run from the weekend of May 8/9 to the weekend of June 12/13. Division 3 of the Allianz Hurling League will run from the weekend of May 15/16 to the weekend of June 19/20.
There will be no Division 1 Hurling League quarter-finals, semi-finals, or Final played. There will either be joint winners for 2021, or or if the teams that win Div 1A and Div 1B meet in the Championship, this will double as a League Final.
The Division 1 Hurling League Relegation Play-off will be played as curtain raiser to Senior Hurling Semi Final in August.
Divisions 2 and 3 will not have League Finals either. The top team in each Division will be crowned champions. The bottom team in Divisions 2A, 2B, and 3A will be relegated.
British based teams will not be involved in the Allianz Hurling Leagues this year. London and London and Warwickshire will start 2022 in Divisions 2B and 3A respectively; Lancashire in 3B.
2021 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 2021 All-Ireland SFC will be played as a straight knock-out competition from the provincial series forward. There will be no Qualifiers and New York and London will not be involved.
There will be no Tailteann Cup in 2021.
2021 Liam MacCarthy Cup
There will be a provincial knock-out championship with back-door qualifiers like there was in 2020, but now also with the introduction of relegation to the Joe McDonagh Cup.
There will be a preliminary round in the qualifiers between the two defeated quarter-final team in Leinster with the winners progressing to Round 1 of the Qualifiers and the losers relegated to the Joe McDonagh Cup in 2022.
Competing counties
Munster: Limerick, Waterford, Tipperary, Clare, Cork.
Leinster: Kilkenny, Galway, Wexford, Dublin, Laois, Antrim.
2021 Joe McDonagh Cup
There will be no semi-finals in the Joe McDonagh Cup which is the only change from what was proposed in December.
The Joe McDonagh Cup winners are promoted in 2021 but do not have a back door into the Liam MacCarthy Cup.
The Joe McDonagh Cup will be played played on Saturday, July 17, the same day as the Leinster SHC Final, and will be broadcast live on TV.
The six competing teams will be split into two Round Robin groups with each team playing one home and one away match. The top team in each group will play the runner up in the other group in the semi-finals with the bottom team in each group playing a relegation final.
If Kerry win the 2021 Joe McDonagh Cup they will play in Leinster in 2022 and replace the team relegated from the Leinster Championship this year.
Competing counties: Kerry, Westmeath, Meath, Carlow, Kildare, Down.

No backdoor in football but one in hurling. I'd love to know the rational behind that. Personally I think its wrong, While it was great seeing Tipp/Cavan making semi finals let's be fair it took away from the semi finals.

I am wondering if the original draw for the League stands or if a new draw is being operated. The old postponed/abandoned fixtures concerning Kerry were:-
27-02-21 Kerry v Roscommon in Tralee. 08-03-21 Galway v Kerry in Salthill. 15-03-21 Kerry v Dublin in Killarney.
I read elsewhere this morning that it is now expected that the Kerry –v- Dublin game is expected to be played in Portlaoise. This arises as an anticipated requirement for Dublin to play their first home game at a neutral venue as a penalty for breaching the lock-down. That would seem to indicate that the original draw and fixture no longer stand.

I'm not sure they've got the plan for the year right atall. They've filled the summer months with intercounty as has been the case every year naturally bar last year. The intercounty game is great and all, and completely gets the country's attention, but only the 1% of players get to play football. I think if they ran the league in parallel with the club league and championships until their conclusion. And then run the championship like last year it would be better for everyone. 99% of young lads, who play club football will be training all summer in a vacuum.

To be fair John i think the Premier competition needs to be in the best conditions and not November or December. I don't understand how intermediate and junior along with juvenile competitions can't be played though.

Gaa's hands are tied here really the club's cant start until level 3 anyway which by all accounts will be June at earliest. What can they do have no games at all in May? The club leagues can at start and lads can get back on the field at least. Not ideal but best that can be done really.

It's easier to do it in Football as the 4 provincial winners can just go straight to the semis. If hurling was straight knockout there'd be no possibility of AI Semis without having a backdoor.

There's also the fact that there were a raft of Covid outbreaks traced to clubs around the country especially in relation to celebrations and off-field activities last year. The GAA are probably hoping a few months of vaccinations will mean there isn't a repeat this year.

Is there any column on what Tim Murphy said today, he was supposedly talking to Radio Kerry about the plan for the upcoming year? There was a piece in the Kerryman this week in which Tim Murphy predicted all going well that club training will begin in may and the county leagues will begin in June. Further to this Peter Twiss was on Saturday sport and he said the same in regards to starting back but added that, the county league divisions would be split into two, meaning there would be roughly 2 groups of 6 with the top two team's on either side promoted and the bottom two relegated, playoffs to decide the rest. The idea that last year's divisional championships could be finished without the county players was also floated. That's my reading of the situation, all is hinging on the virus numbers and the government giving the green light.

Eight teams would leave each division and four remain, except for Div 1, with four changes. A massive disruption of the league structure in a matter of months.

Not sure if you have read that correctly Aodhan, division two for example has 12 teams. So there would be 2 groups of 6 teams, the top 2 teams in either group would be promoted to division one. The teams that finished second in both groups would playoff for the 3rd promotion spot to division one. There would be a similar process for the relegation side of things. I think it's a good idea personally, certainly better than no county league which was the case last year. Again this is all hinging on the go ahead from the government
