Very true hurlingman and it would be great if hurling was pushed in west Kerry but unfortunately many of the dinosaurs running football clubs dont want hurling because of the fear of it being too popular and i think Dingle were doin a fair bit of underage 10 or 12 years ago

Dinosaurs running some football clubs out west! Straight from the Donal Og Cusack playbook. Be consoled. Perhaps it is better that hurling is not flourishing in that wild, untamed area in order to prevent the pure hurling stock being contaminated by those neanderthals. Just goes to show once again, some hurling aficionados are unworthy of the game they profess to support.

Veteran the point im trying to make is hurling should be promoted and played in all areas and not dismissed with the attitude of yera we are a football area we wont botherwith it. You and , for example, Donal Og Cusack would gain sympathy and support for your cause if you spoke respectfully of people who love their game as much as you appear to love yours. Some hurling supporters have a penchant for alienating potential allies. I didn’t see the camogie final today but seemingly at the presentation of the cup the president of the camogie association said something along the lines of “ the GAA will never take our game away from us” . Can you conceive of a more asinine comment during a time when efforts are being made to integrate camogie and ladies football with football and hurling. Not so long ago, Liam Griffin from Wexford , a man normally of sound instincts , came out with the statement that every GAA club should be mandated to have a hurling team at underage level. I cannot recall at what age group it would cease to be compulsory. Again, imagine the stupidity and indeed the undemocratic nature of such a suggestion. Liam should know the word “compulsory” has unhappy and non productive associations with the Irish psyche. I wonder should some hurling lovers be encouraged to read that very popular self help book from another age “ How to win friends and influence people”. It just might help in their crusade to propagate hurling.

When they were the top football club in the 30s they also played in a hurling final. It's been a long time since they've had any underage teams. In I think maybe 2010 Dingle won Div 1 in both football and hurling at U14. Would have had lads like Barry Dan, Mark O Connor amongst others. I'm not sure how it came about but a lot of Dingle lads ended up playing with Kilmoyley in recent times. Without hurling being played in schools it'd be very hard to get it going in West Kerry.

Ballyduff are a super dual club, no other way to describe them They really do huge work promoting both codes and have huge numbers underage in both hurling and football Pity more clubs in Kerry arent as good promoting both codes. for instance why couldnt a town the size of Listowel not promote both codes? Probably sticking in their gut a bit that they havent won a senior hurling title in near I think 8 years now, that is a famine by their standards that they set themselves in the hurling.

Once again a sad reflection on the Kerry Co. Board by showing their disrespect to players and supporters and in particular the hurling fraternity by just posting the final score on the results segment. This was a county final and i note that there was no prior mention whatsoever in the news section of KCB website. Both teams would have had a lot of dual players so all those young lads deserve even greater recognition. The county board were not slow to remind everyone on their website that patrons would need to download tickets to gain access to all the Intermediate and Senior football Championship games this weekend. On the issue of hurling in Listowel, there were attempts in the 1960/70s to get it up and running but the powers that prevailed at that period were not supportive so those players who were resident in Listowel went and played with Lixnaw mostly and were of a standard that they went went on to win County Championship medals.

It's a good idea to use these as a way of getting ready for Munster as there's such a big gap after the county final.
