No excuses, not good enough on the day. Most disappointing for me was the lack of fighting spirit in the second half.

bit surprised to see the fact that kerry played 1/3 of this game with a man less, after two black cards, pretty much completely ignored. i wonder did any of those criticising the team, even watch the game? galway got the 9 of the next 10 scores after those two cards, it had a factor. its not an excuse, but it its a factor in the outcome of the game.
galway are a fine side, theres no shame losing to them, we came out the right side of two close battles and the wrong side of an even closer one to them, over the last 5 years at minor level. today was there day and they deserved it.
this somewhat attack on players, management etc is poor fair.

Started brightly and even when Galway got the goal against the run of play I thought we would still have the better of them.
However our persistence on hitting some hopeless balls in to Horan became concerning - we didn’t seem to have other options.
Second half we were well beaten and I’m sure the lads and management will be most disappointed especially with the amount of ball we surrendered!
Paul Walsh not appearing at half time left me to deduce that he must have had an injury.
Anyhow we’ll done to Galway who grew in confidence as the game went on.

Discipline is part of the game also .. Luka Brosnan’s card in particular was terrible discipline when Kerry needed everyone on the field to try and salvage the game

I am wondering if whole that have no sympathy for Galway players are now showing no sympathy to Kerry u20s. No sympathy whatsoever, well done Galway. Considering Galway were missing a few of the stronger players this game should have fell into our lap, but one or two of our excluded players leveled it out again. Whatever an individual's view on how this virus might impact their own personal health, if you are part of an inter-county group your entire anti virus ethicate, hand washing, mask wearing etc. etc. or lack thereof can have very serious implications on results. I closely observed the Kerry senior group yesterday on tv and they appear to be following the protocols of distancing etc. Hopefully it stays that way, probably the best way to ensure they'll still be playing football the week before Christmas.

There have been bumper crop harvests at underage levels over the past five or six years. We have all basked in their achievements and speculated on who would be most likely development to perform at the highest level.
It would be unfair to make judgments based on yesterday’s game - too many absentees for that. I would prefer to look at what is happening in the senior panel where things are coming along nicely. We don’t know what injuries etc., are at play in the senior panel and we can only judge when and if the Championship starts.

Can't agree there, Taibhse. The difference between us and Dublin is that where we have been thriving at minor and failing at U20/U21,they have been doing the opposite. It's become a real problem in terms of our development. I'm not counting this anomaly of a year, with so many enforced absentees, but we do have a long-term problem

Of those who played yesterday how many won minor all Irelands during the 5 in a row?
Shane Ryan, Jason Foley, Tom Sullivan, Gavin White, Diarmuid O Connor, Burns, Seanie, Buckley, Clifford, Brosnan & Moynihan from the starters (11).
And from the subs Begley.
Not a bad return of players.
From this years u20s I'd expect 3 or 4 to graduate to the seniors in the next 2 years.

Apart from not having David Clifford and SOS available in recent years, one crasy selection cost kerry bigtime in the past two years. Uosis should have been in goals at u20 in recent years. Like Shane Ryan, he was not selected as he was outfield for his club.

Plus a few more that are part of the senior panel at the moment and who will surface this season or more likely in next year’s League. I suppose there is no point in mentioning a few lost to “footie’. There is, of course, merit in the comparison you make with Dublin, but we are accumulating a number of good young players to the senior panel.

Dublin also have 11 players that made it to senior ranks since 2014 the difference is most Dublin players from these years have an all Ireland senior medal and no minor medals. Dublin have been more successful in bring through players.

A lot of them have U21/U20 medals as well. That's my point. In the last 12 years, Dublin have won 9 out of 12 Leinster U21/U20 football titles. They had won 7 titles in 45 years prior to this. They have won 4 All-Irelands in this 12 year period and are favourites to make that 5 All-Irelands in 12 years at U21/U20 level. They had won 1 All-Ireland in the 45 years prior to this. The figures aren't quite as stark for the minor football and U21 and minor hurling titles in Leinster but Dublin have never had as much success as they have had in all these 3 other grades as they have had in the last decade. It's a massive issue for Leinster and the GAA as a whole.

Brosnan doesn’t have an All-Ireland minor medal I was trying to remember if Tony Brosnan played any underage football for the county, and see he got 1-1 when he started against Limerick in the Munster 21 semi final in March 2016, before a cameo appearance for the last 5 minutes of the final defeat to Cork (1-14 to 3-9) in Tralee the following month. When you look at the panel involved from that under 21 group, i think it's fair to say the lack of success at the grade did not hold them back. 1. Eoghan O’Brien Churchill 2. Brian Ó Beaglaoich An Ghaeltacht 3. Jason Foley Ballydonoghue 4. Tom O’Sullivan Dingle 5. Matthew Flaherty Dingle 6. Andrew Barry Na Gael 7. Gavin White Dr Crokes 8. Barry O’Sullivan Dingle 9. Mark O’Connor Dingle 10. Brian Ó Seanacháin Ballydonoghue 11. Micheál Burns Dr Crokes 12. Eanna Ó Conchúir An Ghaeltacht 13. Dara Roche Glenflesk 14. Killian Spillane Templenoe 15. Jack Savage (C) Kerins O’Rahillys Fir Ionaid: Darragh O’Shea Ballydonoghue Tony Brosnan Dr Crokes Tom (Leo) O’Sullivan Dingle David Foran St Senans Jordan Kiely Dr Crokes Greg Horan Austin Stacks Dan O’Donoghue Spa Fionán Clifford Waterville Cormac Coffey Kerins O’Rahillys Shane O’Connor John Mitchels Conor Geaney Dingle The following players are members of the extended Kerry Under 21 panel: Brandon Barrett (Ardfert, injured), Cathal Ó Lúing (An Ghaeltacht), James Duggan (John Mitchels), Patrick O’Connor (Dingle), Michael O’Donnell (Austin Stacks), Darren Brosnan (Gneeveguilla), Matthew O’Sullivan (St Michaels-Foilmore,Injured), Brian Rayle (Lispole, Injured), Brian Sugrue (Renard, Injured).

Liam Brosnan on Terrace Talk shed some light on the Paul Walsh substitution, saying he carried a hamstring injury in to the game which was restricting his mobility around the pitch.

That throws some light on his substitution. I was misled when Brian Tylers said the commentary team were not informed that he had sustained an injury. Paul was a loss.

FYI it is Brian Tyers not Tylers. I am well aware of that Sir. The misspelling here would be known as a typographical error. Brian is my favorite GAA commentator. A little nugget for you in return . A Paddy Tyers played in goals for Cork in the 1956 when they were beaten by Galway. Somebody told me he was Brian’s dad. Not sure if it is true but it maybe because it is a very unusual surname. That was the first All-Ireland I was conscious off. A confession- I cried when Cork were beaten. It wouldn’t happen today!

Apologies; I assumed it was a misspelling rather than a typo as it appeared twice by you. I can confirm that Brian's father's name is/was(RIP?) Paddy. However I cannot confirm if he was the 1956 edition (although now even more likely).

The lack of success at Under 20/21 level a disappointment it's also nothing new really. In the last 20 years we;ve won five titles and only one All-Ireland.
Kerry have been effected more than most by what's possibly the most stupid rule the GAA has ever brought in. In 2018 Kerry were missing the two best U20 players in Ireland, but at the same time Jack O Connor at the time knew that was the case before had so not sure if that can be used as an excuse.
We have got a lot of players from the 2014-2017 minor teams and would expect to see a few more from 2018 team. However i think the media in Kerry have to ship some of the blame as they have some lads hyped up to the very last and it's hard for a young fella to not let it go to his head. Something often said of Laois underage players in the 90s is the believed they were much better than they actually were becaue of local media and it' why many of them just never made the impact many thought they would.

Our lack of success at U20/21 is disappointing but not the end of the world.
Yes, one can link Dublin's senior success to their great run in U20/21 grade but this is not the full story. Cork with 3 are the next most successful at the grade and Galway have 2 (plus two final losses) without either side tasting senior success in those years.
A lot is going on for players of 19/20 yrs - many are based away from Kerry/home for the first time and are being pulled and dragged with club, college and county as well as being introduced to college life. The emphasis in Kerry seems to be on developing and graduating players to the senior ranks with actuall success in the competition itself a bonus.
And as we all know only too well in Kerry, the year is judged on how the senior team performs.

From a 'theoretical psychology' perspective this is not so straight forward - ah wait - it takes 10,000 hours in any endeavour to reach one's peak, say 10 years at say 1,000 pa, bearing in mind not all hours are the same. Also a danger if you try to rush it, it is in a book recommended by half Listowel man Bernard Brogan. Of course it is very subjective, maybe more a guide really. One flaw in it is that some of us are born ganders and peak the day we were born, so little wonder after 10,000 hours they have the world where it is!

Won't be easy for Galway or Dublin trying to stay focused for a one off game some time next year.

So we have u20/minors basically scraped due to COVID-19 from midnight but the seniors can play (because their elite “laughable”) next weekend. The Gaa organisation are really showing their weakness and how amateur things really are.
