Kerry squad assembled yesterday in preparation for next year - returning to the fold are Cormac Coffey, Pa Kilkenny and Mike Potts - new faces in Tony Brosnan, Paudie Clifford, Sean T Dillon, Adam Donoghue, John M Foley, Eoghan O'Brien and Barry O'Mahony - McGrath Cup up first on 29th Dec when many of the squad will be in Thailand. Are the team back full time training now? I find it very early or maybe it's time enough to start again?

It’s 8 weeks to National league throw in with 7 games then in a 9 week period - think the consensus now is that the workload is too great what with heavy pitches/travelling away etc if training did not start earlier than usual - throw in a 2 week period in Jan for the majority of these guys & thats 6 weeks under the belt.

I ‘m sure Peter has already gathered the troops in preparation for next year. If he has started by splitting hairs about stamina and experience, we won’t get out of Munster. I’ve said it several times, the team that will beat Dublin will beat them playing football, not in stamina. If stamina were the deciding factor then Wicklow could start a 4 year plan and win the AIF in 2023. This year we had 4 forwards, 3 maybe 4 defenders and 1 midfielder and Dublin only beat us between approx. minute 150 and minute 160 of a 2 game battle. Peter, Donie, Maurice and the others know that completing the attacking and defencive structures is the way to win. You would normally expect a team with Dublin’s historical record to have about 5 Connollys. They don’t. The 1 they have is there because in spite of a lot of disrespect, Gavin knows that 1 Connolly is better than no Connolly and that is the decision of a good manager. The fact is they do not have a team of exceptionally talented footballers. Afterall the discussion here is about stamina. What I am saying here about our structure this year is no disrespect to players like Killian Spillane and others who did themselves proud in a limited number of appearances over the season but we need to get to a point where we know that before the team is announced that the opposition will be dealing with 6 scoring forwards and that 1 is not a supporting midfield and another supporting the half back line. When we have a complete team the stamina will look after itself. Peter, Donie, Maurice and the others know that completing the attacking and defencive structures is the way to win. You are correct. It is because the defensive & attacking structures were not in place in 2019 that the All Ireland was lost. First - the defensive. At the start of the 2nd half Dublin played 6 forwards and so that there was no spare player to challenge the extra man coming from the back & he scored the goal. Surely a half forward should have been coached to track back when Dublin play 6 forwards - just like Howard does for Dublin. Now to the forwards. Towards the end of the game, Tommy Walsh put a great ball across the square. Paul Geaney saw what was happening so he went out the field and was followed by the full back. Now there is no Dublin player protecting the square. The ball comes across and there is no Kerry player coming through to put the ball in the net. (Pat Spillane scored a brilliant goal in a similar set-up V Tyrone) Kerry are definitely badly missing a good coach and he is not in the present set up. Rumour, in Dublin, has it that 1 of the 3 mentioned above is or has left the Kerry set-up. But, in my opinion, it is the wrong person that is due to go or gone.

Being back training now is surely the right call if peter wants to look at a few new lads?
Also if anyone thinks stamina isnt a huge factor these days then they are delusional we had run out of gas by the last ten minutes in both games last year, its all fine and well saying they need to be coached to track back etc but if they havent the conditioning they just wont be capable. To beat dublin we will have to match them for skill/talent where i think we are close and stamina where we are a bit off. Dublin have an exceptional s and c program and a lot of their players have benefitted over an extended time period of this.

Honesty Brigid you are constantly negative. You have rarely post anything positive. That last paragraph is laughable. Kerry with what 23 new players in 36 months the youngest team in decades played all the top sides last summer only losing out after a replay to a more experienced Dublin side.

Pretty hard to have a spare man to stop the Murchan goal. Plenty of issues with that goal but not the one you are on about

If Stephan Cluxton stays on he could potentially hold 8/9 All Ireland medals in the next two to three years. If he wins a medal next year he will have match the Kerry 5 and only players to hold 8 medals. But if he gets the nine he will have made history and the only players to hold nine medals.

Kerry will win the all Ireland in 2020. I thought that also until Gavin pulled the plug. A new manager might actually squeeze a little bit of new freshness out of Dublin in 2020. Cluxton's call will be pivotal. He is at the gate now and could go either way. Achieving the 5 in a row is probably likely to whack Dublin mentally. Gavin might have sensed this. All to play for in 2020 all the same for Kerry. Probably short a bit with MOC in Oz and a few gaps in defence.

Lads I'm looking at next year's fixtures and planning on attending the Mayo game as I've not been to a game in Castlebar. Where do Kerry fans normally stay? Castlebar or Westport?

Castlebar is the spot - Breaffy House or the Ellison ( formerly Harlequin) are the most popular spots, Mick Byrne’s for the pints!

So Cathal McShane is not in the AFL pick of the crop after all. Very hard to see past Dublin this year with Donegal improving on last year. Tyrone, Kerry, Mayo and Galway in the chasing pack, it will be interesting if these teams go one step closer to better performance when needed. Cork are the dark horses could upset a lot of countries. Dublin to challenge the league this year.

I'd also think the chasing pack is no longer, we can match the Dubs, Donegal can match us and Mayo took Dgal and hold the League, Dubs are best on the basis they hold Sam but not much different to any other holders in a given year. I am watching Donegal and quiet honestly I don't kn ow how they do it given that the county is a full 50% soccer, I think the answer lies in that while they lose players, there is a cross fertilisation between the codes, both are football afterall, bar handling the ball! Though Gaelic has more physics to it, there is more money and consequently expertise behind globalised soccer, and that filters down, and hopefully across? Didn't GO'D (God O'Dwyer) have rite of access with English soccer in the day, so nothing new there. Those who wouldn't be intimately familiar with the Dgal landscape couldn't even begin to imagine to intrinsic chemistry with Celtic, Liverpool, etc - even I often have to pinch myself and I have lived in Dgal for 20 years. Here is a good one, insightful, apparently Kerry not focusing as much on the League? 'It's not simply a matter of time' - Stephen O'Brien under no illusions on task facing Kerry
