And Gough has got it . Can we all just calm down and put our energy into supporting the team and enjoying the build up +1 Admin can we have some rule where if a person mentions the ref prior to the game that they are banned for a minimum of a few days. Let's get back to talking about things that we can control. +1 to this rule.

Eamonn Fitzmaurice should been straight about it and we woudn't have had any drama because the facts would have backed the real argument. The truth was and is Kerry’s gripe and worry with David Gough actually had nothing to do really with where he lived but rather his inept performance during the 2016 All Ireland semi-final. Gough had a direct impact on the outcome of the match and anybody stating otherwise is not being honest and speaking of integrity at least Gough admitted it afterward and apologised to the Kerry team for those mistakes in 2017. It takes a fair man to admit he got it wrong in public when he did not have to.
I think David Gough learnt a lot from those mistakes in the 2016 semi-final as a referee and it is why he makes such a point now of consulting his umpires. I’d give Gough the benefit of the doubt but his assistants on the day of the All Ireland final are Conor Lane, Barry Cassidy, and Sean Hurson and they need to assist and not see themselves as rivals. If Gough needs help then those assistants need to inform him regardless of rules.

If the Kerry County Board have the right to object to a Referee and if they did not do so in this instance then we must accept that the Board are happy with the appointment .
And this fact must get the same publicity as our ex manager and ex player who have objected so forcibly lest we be deemed whingers.
Strange Fitzmaurice waits till now - that’s a great help.

I listened back to the piece on Off the Ball with Pat Mc and Mike Quirke. Joe Molloy and Pat praised Hough for his decision to over turn the penalty HE awarded against Cork after consultation with the umpire. Sorry but that is a load of bull. If he wasn't 100% sure that O Callaghan was fouled, instead of falling, he should not have awarded the penalty in the first place. If he does the same thing in a few weeks I wonder would the umpire be as likely to tell Gough he was wrong with 15000 Dubs screaming at them from the Hill for the rest of the game. And wasn't it a pity he didn't listen to his umpire over the phantom 45 he awarded in the 16 semi final. Absolutely spot on post. Giving the penalty was a disgrace when he didn't know what he was doing. It was no more than an uninformed stab in the dark then. Dublin have a 100% record of getting every marginal game deciding call going their way in big Croke Park games this decade. Seriously, you need to have a lie down. I'll rewind all of 4 days, McLoughlin stamp on Scully, and O'Donoghue dig into Con's ribs. Both seen by linesman as well (2 yards away). They weren't even marginal, ref just wasn't arsed because Mayo's race was run. Keegan firing a GPS at Rock when he kicked the winner in 2017. Not only was nothing done at the time but nothing was done over the course of the following winter.

So it was a disgrace to give a decision when he didn't know what he was doing (I presume you mean didn't properly see it and had a guess it was a pen?) But it's equally disgraceful not to give a decision when he couldn't see the incident (McManamon on Crowley). Make your mind up which one is it, cos you are tying yourself up in knots at this stage.

No not to you, the poster who did the original match ups gave it to Crowley. Apologies for confusion. Ah you might want to go and check original post again, I gave it as a Draw.
Yep, fair enough. Agreed.

I actually think calling for the penalty and then consulting the umpires was the right thing to do. Imagine it was a penalty and he didn't call it because he couldn't see. The play goes the other way and he has to follow it. When does he consult the umpires to make the decision? At least by awarding the penalty the game stops and he has time to at least ask the question and make the right choice.

Think at this stage if Gough or Dublin Joe or David Coldrick(His partner is one of the chief stewards in Croker) get the game there will be an unfair and huge pressure on them not to be seen or perceived to be biased. I won't mention the ref again but the above is becoming a difficulty. How far down the list of suitables do we have to go before Kerry are happy with the ref. Gough - lives in Dublin, tenuous (at best) link to a Dublin club - out Coldrick - lives in Dublin , partner of chief steward, who is based in Croke Park, which is in Dublin - out McQuillan - nobody knows if he lives in Dublin but we don't like him cos he rode us before - out. Insanity.

I liked Mike Quirkes quip that if Michael Healy Rae was ref and Danny Healy Rea was over Hawkeye, the Dubs would probably still win by 10 points.
Today's appointment is just the cream on top of what the GAA have done over the last 15 years to give advantage after advantage to Dublin.
The way it is there is no pressure on Kerry. In bonus territory, playing Dublin in their home pitch with somebody with such close links to GAA in the county as ref. What have we got to lose?

Insanity. I think it is you who may very well need to lie down. The consensus on the forum is that where ANY referee wholives and/or works in ANY given county, he should be precluded from reffing that given county. Gough and Dublin are the example in this instance of what people disagree with. It is infair to the ref, to both sets of players and both sets of fans as refereeing decisions will be subject to unnecessary and avoidable accusations of bias, for or against. Stop taking it personally and try and enjoy the build up.... The decision has been made. Move on.

This ref talk is suiting Jim Gavin perfectly. While the game/ match ups, etc should be the talk of the country we decide to talk about who should and shouldn’t be the ref. Park it lads. The decision is made and there isn’t a thing anyone here can do about it so let that be it please.

To be fair, the talk this week should be about the hurling final rather than the football one

Insanity. so lets look at facts re Gough and the "tenuous" links you mention. he has managed a team in St Judes in the past and coached kids there. that is factual. Dublin people keep denying this, its about time it stopped. Gough has also strong links to the club, through the school he used to teach in - this is factual. GOugh has posed for pics through his school (not the club as is claimed) with Dublin players celebrating winning all irelands. Gough is a games development officer in Dublin - this is factual. all in all, he has extremely strong links to Dublin GAA both right now and throughout the last 4 years. over the coming weeks, no doubt he will be involved in some form of connections with kids, fans, player and county board officals of Dublin GAA. NOW, that said, the decision is done and i wish him the best of luck in the final. i hope he has a good game and i hope no pressure is on him as its a difficult enough job. i hope the discussion about him stops. but likewise i wish DUblin supporters stopped denying factual information being brought up and dismissing it, as if it was lies. Dublin will win the final handy and the ref wont have a baring on this so its all irrelevent. but the topic should never be under discussion, he is a young ref and eventually there will come a time when Dublin or Meath wont be in the final and he can have it then. theres discussion every year about refs - a key one being that they shouldnt even be from same province...but because this impacts Dublin, theres a media outcry over it.

Surely there is someone from a traditional football county out there who could ref it? 😁

I have a few questions of all referees in the greater Dublin area...how many times have you refereed in-house Dublin games (with appropriate expenses, of course)? How many times would be acceptable?
Would being "requested" to referee a Dublin challenge match or five be ok too?
On the flip side, how many Kerry challenge games or special requests for in-house games has each referee done?
Could be interesting reading there.
Just like when Mick O'Dwyer brought final referee John Moloney down from Tipperary to Killarney for a few nights to explain this new interpretation of the hand-pass. Nothing to see there either.
All in all...best to have said nothing and just get on with preparing the team for their highlight of the year.

Jesus this does need to stop now. I dislike the appointment and the history of the ref involved more than any person and voiced it as recently as a few hours ago - but its over now & done with, he is appointed.
Need to forget it and get on with thinking about the game.
Plenty of time for b!tch!ng & moan!ng if he does it again.... That along with the many other ills of the game!
The decision I am most eagerly awaiting now is what is happening with the situation of SOB. Need that resolved & confirmed as soon as possible. Would be good to know what odds Kerry were back in '55, '75 & '78.

Agree 100%. It's getting embarrassing at this stage. Set up a separate thread if ye want to discuss the ref. Yes he screwed us in 2016 but nothing we can do about that now.
Would prefer if the media were focused on Dubs doing the 5 in a row.
Closer this game gets, more confident I am. Had a look back at 2016 game last night. Dublin defense almost exactly the same apart from McCaffrey. Cian O Sullivan also will not start the final.
We have a very fresh young, hungry team. We can do this and the Dubs know that. Match ups will be crucial. Very hard to have a good match up for Con, Mannion, Kilkenny and Rock. Then you have to worry about Howard is just a super all rounder.
So far thinking Morley on Con Tom Sull on Mannion Foley on Rock Crowley on Kilkenny

The Tyrone thread has just been locked, so am not wasting my prepared post. Slight deviation in topic focus, a positive one Just back to Sunday briefly and a couple of Clifford moments that warmed the heart. First the roar to the crowd when equalizing at 0-12 to 0-12. Second coring Kerry’s final point with his right foot whilst being challenged and then just raising both arms aloft as it dropped over the bar. Class. Loved it.

The state sponsored Russian doping program are only in the haypenny place compared to the GAA at this stage. I think I've said enough on the matter and it's probably not worth losing any sleep over. Given the circumstances, if Kerry somehow win this final it would be one of the greatest ever achievements in sport.
