The though just crossed my mind that if Mayo beat Galway and Meath beat Clare we could end up with three Super 8 games in the dreaded gold jersey as our traditional green and gold will clash with all three opponents - aaagggghhhh Christ hadn't thought of that surely in killarney we get to wear our home jersey ffs

Mayo played there last year in the qualifiers. Yes a round 1 fixture against Limerick (Div 4) who had home advantage - this time its a neutral venue as was the case when they met Kerry there. They argued that Limerick was closer to Kerry and not therefore a true neutral venue - this time they have to travel through Galway to get to the neutral ground. Mayo's big gripe in 2014 was that Limerick was a ground that Kerry were used to playing in. In this case Mayo will be the team that is familiar with the venue. I don't think Galway have played in Limerick since the league final against Kerry in 2006. I think a lot of mayo people will be happy this is on in Limerick. It was the only option really when the 2 counties didn't agree to a toss and Croke park is unavailable. There is no other ground in Connacht with a capacity above 20k. With the motorway from Tuam and the easy access, Limerick is a more attractive option than salthill where it takes more than an hour to get back across the river on match days.

I remember Horan moaning that the 2014 game should have been in Thurles rather than Limerick. That made no sense in that Kerry had played more games in Thurles than Limerick in the preceding years. Also the mayo fans would be travelling through Limerick and have an extra 1 and a quarter hour drive to Thurles. In fairness any genuine mayo fans that I know had no problem going to Limerick in 2014 and they are looking forward to next Saturday in Limerick.

For me Mayo will win handy enough. Can’t see them losing to Galway. Clare will give Meath enough of it. Should be close. I think we’ll really struggle to beat Mayo and Donegal . I’m sorry to say cant see us coming out.
Dublin and Tyrone should make it out handy enough on the other side.

Galway beat them in the Connacht championship in the last 3 seasons. On this year's form, mayo performed better against Roscommon than galway did. Mayo should have beaten Roscommon but missed a lot of chances. However that was mayo with Ruane, diarmuid o Connor and Keegan. They are very beat up at the moment.

Will the Mayo/Galway winners be battle hardened and have an advantage, or will the direct route benefit us?

From a Kerry perspective, we just need to be going into the last game with our destiny in our own hands and not relying on results elsewhere

That mayogaablog is the most deluded gaa forum on the internet Willie Joe is like a dictator
As a Kerry fan living in Mayo they still haven't got over 2014 They think they have our number now tho As Tomas O Se said they put people on pedestals who dont deserve it, get over confident and we all know the hype train
I see David Brady is mouthing off again on twitter and radio about Eamon Fitzmaurice comments in examiner. Mayo do the dark arts well. Let's face it everyone does. But they are more cynical than most. Lee Keegan GPS etc
They are their own worst enemies
I'd love Kerry to put them in their place in Killarney I think they'll edge out galway

Any indication when the dates/times for the super 8s fixtures will be announced? Personally I'd like the Kerry v Mayo/Galway match to be on the Saturday rather than Sunday.

Horans comments after the league final should provide plenty of motivation for Kerry not that they should need it given the bullying they have gotten off Mayo in recent times.

Last year it was announced around now but the identities of both teams were known at that stage. They may wait till next week.

Pat Spillane on Kerry
Nothing much has changed as regards where their problems exist. There might be a new management team in place, but nothing has been done to correct their defects in defence.
Essentially all their defenders are ball players who want to be half-backs and they lack man-markers and all-round physicality.
Unlike Donegal, they don’t have a system in place where players flood the central defensive positions and pressurise the ball-carrier. As a result they are wide open down the centre when run at.
Technique is a major issue as well, as far as I can see. Their body position, positioning of their feet and tackling is very poor.
Tactically, they are pressing high up the field but when the opposition ball-carrier breaks free, with runners on the shoulder, Kerry are wide open at the back.
Centre-field is another concern – they simply don’t have the athleticism or pace to match the Dubs in this department.
And while the forwards did well at the weekend that sector has issues as well. Paul Geaney has been struggling for the guts of a year now. I believe he’s not the best player to operate alongside David Clifford as they are too similar in style. Kerry need a pacier forward to complement Clifford.
Finally, they need quicker ball, but the problem is that their half-forwards are lying too deep to deliver it, so Clifford and Geaney are getting isolated.

Hopefully the championship can take off now, there are a number of top matches to come. Kerry’s side of the draw looks very competitive with any 2 of Kerry, Donegal and Mayo/Galway potentially getting through to semis. And Tyrone to give the Dubs a good rattle as well

Mayo to visit with Donie Buckley in Killarney.
Stephen Rochford to bring Donegal to Castlebar.
Donie and Stephen meet on neutral ground in Croke Park.
Three great occasions in the making.

" Given our injury situation and our opponent, we have gone past the point of skills or tactics having a large influence on the outcome of the game. This one is all about winning at all costs, do whatever is needed to be done, hit whoever you have to hit, take out whoever you have to take out. Do not take a single fu*king backwards step against this shower. Don’t even think about it. Every minute of every play, going down the tunnel, in the tunnel, front up and let them know, “not fu*king today Sham”. Forget about our injuries, forget about Super 8’s etc. This one is all about payback. Nothing else. The only thing our lads must remember, every minute of every day between now and Saturday evening 7pm, is the way we timidly allowed ourselves to be bullied in every game against them over the last few years. Dragged, literally, all over the pitch. Beaten on the pitch and on the scoreboard. Sucker punched late in games and beaten well with 15 mins to go. Danced through us and cut us open, played the black arts on us, or, plain and simple just battered us. They have beaten us every which way you can think. Sometimes deservedly so, other times luckily, but they’ve beaten us. That has got to stop now. "
Just read that over in the mayo gaa blog. It can be addictive reading over the nonsense they post. He starts off saying Mayo need to be cynical and take people out off the ball.
Then in the next paragraph gives out about Galway being cynical. And they are all praising him saying he right on etc. Its like a parallel universe over there.
I never took much notice of Mayo supporters. Thought they were a bit simple or naive to be honest. But after being introduced to that blog on here a few days back my opinion has changed. They are the most self entitled bunch of a**holes I have ever come across. They are giving out about Limerick being chosen. A siege mentality is grand but that's just nuts

I enjoyed reading that. Reminds me of Paidis "knock them back in their f .arses for another 10 years" state of the union address.
I imagine similar sentiments will arise in Kerry minds if Mayo roll into Killarney.
Great stuff
