Galway vs Mayo are going to knock absolute lumps out of each other next weekend before entering the Kingdom's den. Hard to know who will come through to face Kerry as one could make strong arguments for both Mayo and Galway beating each other at this stage but my tip is Mayo. Both teams are struggling with injuries particularly around the middle and I would say that list and maybe suspensions! will grow after next Sunday. Am I right in thinking this is the first knockout game between them since 1999?

Hopefully Galway beat Mayo because we all know that Mayo are 10-12 points better than Kerry.

Tyrone must be laughing - Dublin in Omagh with Cork or Laois in Croker- they won’t mind a trip to the Hyde either.

I have this recurring dream these days - Kerry to struggle against Cork in Munster final (happened), scrape through a messy super 8's by the skin of their teeth and take Dublin by surprise in the semi final - I wake up as we are behind in the final but nobody seems to care about the final once we stop the drive for five......

Funny the other group is the exact same as last year nearly except cork/laois instead of Donegal. Last year dublin played roscommon in cp and Tyrone in omagh exact same as this year!

When do tickets go on sale for the games ? Monday or Tuesday week, it's a pain really around planning why didn't they do the draw sat night and have all venues etc done this week for super 8s so we all know where we are going. Do rte have first pick? looks like they are showing one game on Saturday and one on Sunday or a hurling quarter and sky are showing one on Saturday. With cork and Kilkenny looking like they will be in the hurling the chances of kerry playing Saturday are greatly increased imo. I reckon we will be on at 5 on the Saturday with dublin and cork on Saturday at 7 as well for tv and cork playing Sunday in the hurling in thurles.pity rossies v tyrone is a big game in that group as well.

I would like to beat Mayo but, having only recently being introduced to the Mayo GAA blog. I can imaging all the gnashing of teeth about injuries etc. Regardless we should be able to beat both teams. Watching the match Armagh match the last night Mayos full back line is as ropey as our own and they still have problems with he high ball in.
I struggle to generate any enthusiasm about playing Galway to be honest

Can someone have a go at decoding what Brolly was saying in the following paragraph from the Sindo re Donegal tactics v Cavan -
"Instead, they play a Dublin-style tracker defence, where the forwards drop off their men by around five to 10 metres, stay goalside of them, then engage them when they come to the mid-line. This has the effect of slowing the opposition down as they come out of their own defence, denying them an overlap or a counter-attack and congesting their attacking area. It has the additional crucial advantage that each opposition player is being man-marked, so there is no confusion on the part of the defensive team as to who is marking whom."

We owe Galway also from last year but no doubt Mayo in Killarney could be special.
I booked accommodation in Killarney for the Saturday yesterday on the offchance for such a scenario. I would suggest others do likewise. You can always postpone closer to the time if you need to.

Likewise i booked both days with a cancellation option with booking.com Getting excited now, hoping Meath do the business a game 20 minutes from my house would be a nice change.

I hope it is Mayo myself, we are unbeaten in the Championship in Killarney since 1995 so it will take a massive effort to keep that going. Maybe the curse of Killarney will get to them as well 😉. It would be nice to have a big game like Kerry v Mayo for the newly renovated stadium (they're currently doing up the scoreboard end). We owe them for the semi in 2017 and also be good to put their supporters back on their arse again 😂😂😂

Speaking of accommodation - nothing on booking.com for Navan the Saturday night of the August weeekend. Is it that popular a tourist town?

Its a busy town but accommodation shouldn't be a problem, 2 hotels and several B&Bs. You are only 40 mins from Dublin too.

I'm in the same boat royalkerryfan, wouldnt mind a short spin down to Pairc Tailteann myself although we'll have short enough spin to Croke Park the week before. I've booked accommodation but not the train, would hope it will be Sunday. Spent a fortune going to Cork so B&Bing it this time.

Hopefully the Super 8s come alive this year. Kerry will need to be very good to progress. Win the group and they'll face Tyrone in the semi final, come second and it will be Dublin, presumably! There will be the touch of the mad house about it if teams start beating each other starting with Tyrone v Dublin in Omagh. Great ties for Cork, Clare, Laois and Meath. Looking forward towards a great month of football...............

So Mayo V Galway is fixed for Limerick of all places - waiting to hear the howls of anguish from Mayo at having to travel to Limerick for this all or nothing tie.

A 8 week season if you like with 5 games for the two who reach the final

Mayo played there last year in the qualifiers. Yes a round 1 fixture against Limerick (Div 4) who had home advantage - this time its a neutral venue as was the case when they met Kerry there. They argued that Limerick was closer to Kerry and not therefore a true neutral venue - this time they have to travel through Galway to get to the neutral ground.

The though just crossed my mind that if Mayo beat Galway and Meath beat Clare we could end up with three Super 8 games in the dreaded gold jersey as our traditional green and gold will clash with all three opponents - aaagggghhhh
