Win the home league games should be a target...by my reckoning, and assuming the recent ordering of leagues is not changed for 2025, Kerry will have Armagh (Rd 2), Dublin (Rd 4) and Donegal (Rd 6) at home. Not so easy to get six points there, 4 at best maybe?
Then getting points on the road in Derry (Rd 1), Mayo (Rd 3), Tyrone (Rd 5) and Galway (Rd 7). Might get 3 points to get us to 7 points and safety. Mayo and Tyrone games will be big ones.
Again, fixtures not published yet and order/venues is only my guesswork based on previous year's fixtures.

They probably wouldn't have Derry v Kerry as the first fixture again when it was this year. An away trip to Derry might be a nice weekend away!

Regardless, and I know Jack is a huge fan and places a big emphasis on the league, and even though in past terms, the league has been good to us. I think Jack may have to use the league to blood players more as opposed to being afraid to lose face and divisional status.
The myth that division two football is detrimental to an All Ireland push is exactly that, a myth.. Dublin won from division two, it did no harm to Galway to unearth players when they were also relegated, both Donegal and Armagh were down there enough as well.
My point is Jack may want to protect the two decade record of division one, I'd rather blood young lads and see if we can unearth players to bolster the panel without the worry of relegation. Sometimes a record can be a noose around the neck, as an example, I don't see many posts here moaning about losing the home championship record since Mayo clipped us, but a lot of talk was of retaining this record in advance of big games.... need to look forward not back, but I don't know is Jack a visionary....

Not sure getting relegated is all that good a thing tbh ! Winning games is always good particularly given the fact that munster and the group stage this year means we don't play top opposition all that much. I do agree however on the need to blood new players I think one on every line in every game. Who are those new players is the thing will Burke be there ? Who else Dylan casey arming heinreich, buckley o brien Any of the 20s ?

I agree in a couple of games in the league we brought the Clifford's on when things weren't going great we need the other lads to take the responsibility in closing stages of games and if we lose by a point so be it

It is interesting listening to and reading about the performance of the referee in last Sunday’s hurling final. Some laud him for being the facilitator of a great game. Indeed one media outlet awarded him man of the match! Elsewhere he is severely criticized , mostly in Cork unsurprisingly, for allowing too much to go unpunished. This is not just a reference to the “jersey pull” but a series of refereeing mistakes are detailed.
This divergence of opinion is an inevitable outcome of a whimsical , laissez-faire approach to refereeing. Indeed this method is in concert with a peculiarly Irish attitude to rules and regulations. Ignoring obvious fouls for the sake of letting the game flow can lead to match changing and indeed title changing outcomes. In the short term it can lead to exciting contests but in the medium to long term it is likely to undermine the integrity of the game of hurling . Therefore, I believe “letting the game flow” is a false doctrine.

Well said Vet.I thought I was ploughing a lone furrow in my views to hurling refereeing. No doubt hurling is a brilliant spectacle and scores have increased massively over the last 7 or 8 years.Alot of this has to do with the sliotar being lighter (i ll leave that for another time) but also the referees are "letting the game flow". Many ex hurlers and pundits constantly praise referees for "letting game flow" and you can be sure refs watch TSG and listen to pundits and it gets into their heads. The reality is "a foul is a foul" and refs letting games flow involves ignoring the rules alot of the time. We all know a whistle happy ref slows up game but if players were pulled for fouls more often ,they would nt foul as much.Alot of the time the praise heaped on referees is done so for ignoring the rules.I know common sense is important but rules are there for a reason.Well said Vet.

Refs have a tough job but hurling refs particularly do with the media putting pressure to "let the game flow". Donal Og was doing before the final last week. It's ironic seeing people complaining about the jersey pull last week, the same people would be up in arms if that call was made at anyother time.

Exactly. If ref pulled that for a free midfield the pundits would be giving out.If Donal Og had his way you would nt need a ref All depends on what Cú Chulainn would have done for Donal Óg

The " no blood, no foul " approach to hurling refereeing is doing it no favours . It reminds me of 1970s film "Rollerball".

If some had their own way it'd go back to what it was like during the 60s.

Same craic with the "handpass". Pundits want players to be able to throw the ball around with impunity because it makes things easier.

Has anyone renewed their Clubber subscription.
I just decided to log in and noticed it expired last week.
It's gone up to €149.99. Not a hope am I going to pay that. Its a 50% increase.

It's 12.99 to watch a match this season compared to 10.99 last year. So much for the days of high inflation being over.

A steep increase alright. It’s a fantastic service and it would be big shame to lose it but they must get money from somewhere.

I agree that it was a great facility to have for me here in Dublin to see Club championship but the increase is just to much. I spend enough on Diesel driving around the country for inter County matches and having a very understanding wife who doesn't complain too much, but I have to draw the line.
Might buy the odd single game though

Think similar to GAA Go there was a reduced price if purchased in December. Dublin Club games free on YouTube, DubsTV, just saying

Here we go again. Paddy Power Kerry 5/2 favourites to win 2025 All Ireland. Armagh 15/2. I expect it must be only because of the Kerry name.

Saw somewhere recently that an AI final ticket in the late 90s was 7 punt (equivalent of €25 in this day in age apparently). Price has quadrupled in 25 years.

As a copmparison Cork GAA's offering is €80 per year. BUT...For the whole month of August they will stream EIGHT games. Last weekend alone there we TEN Kerry Club matches streamed on Clubber as well as matches in 9 other counties. The production values vary from week to week but to get the opportunity to see matches I can't get to make it a great value for money option for me.

Betting odds are worked out by actuarers and bets placed.Obviously some people have big money on Kerry for next year. Not necessarily but money might be expected, wan of this crew was explaining the complexities of such modelling lately and all I say is god help the poor betting hoor who knows anything about sport, they have no chance - now if you understand the model it is a different story, so basically the market takes the footballers hard earned cash and gives it to the mathematician, having deducted a few bob for their troubles.

extra.ie/2024/08/05/sport/gaa/mark-gallagher-tv-bbc-rte-all-irelandI actually watch 'the Chsmpionship' on BBC for the Ulster C'ship and the latter stages of this year's run to Sam. The pundits in Oisin, Mike Murphy, Canavan and Harte are so learned on the game and call a spade a spade. One feature I really like is they have Maurice Deegan miked up and for any questionable referee decision or if there is any rule confusion he comes in to clarify or explain or contradict the referee call at the time. I love this feature abd it is one tg4 ot rte should copy. Speaking of refereeing, the local standard in the county has gone to sh#t... its an issue that the county board needs to address, starting at divisional board level.

So Davy is on his way to Antrim. Obviously he's spent enough time with his family and travelling is no longer an issue....

Davy is absolutely shameless. He had 2013 with Clare. 1 Munster in his first Waterford spell and 1 Leinster with Wexford. I can't understand why teams still shell out for him. Would Antrim not be better off employing a few more coaches or Games Development Officers than lining Davys pockets for him.
Just from a quick look at the map its over twice the distance so I suppose at least twice the expenses. Even the year he lost out on the Galway gig he ended up coaching with the Cork Camogie team. He just reminds me of a Sam Allardyce, Mark Hughes or Steve Bruce from the soccer.

He's a good man to being short term success but no one he's been with ever befited in the long run. The short term success is always because he picks term where there's a good chance of success based on underage teams wherr the works been done.
