Exactly as you say Veteran, Cork have won their battle, as Clare did the previous day but the war is still there for either to take on the 21st July. It will be a colourful occasion.
Very sad to hear of John O'Mahony's death at a relatively young age. He achieved a lot with 3 counties, most notably of course Galway's 2 All Irelands after that 32 year gap. May he rest in peace.

Cork made Limerick look a very tired team. Their youthful enthusiasm, their hunger and , above all , their pace made them irresistible. Only Limerick’s winning habit prevented them from sustaining a heavier defeat. It is always sad to see great champions being unseated but nothing is permanent. This Cork team could become a formidable force but of course they would do well to remember that they are not champions yet. Looking back now to their clash in Pairc Ui Chaoimh one is reminded of the thin line between victory and defeat , indeed in this case the thin line between hurling immortality and despair. Limerick came back from being dead and buried that evening and looked to have secured victory and in the process dumped Cork out of the championship. They will forever rue not fouling Shane Fitzgibbon earlier in his run rather than so late that they conceded a penalty and , perhaps, the five in a row . Hindsight suggests that incident was as significant as the Séamus Darby goal which one or two of you may recall cost another team five in a row also. One other observation from today’s game , an observation which is becoming more apparent after most games, it is impossible to referee a hurling game. Throw balls, steps , tackles high and low which are deemed legal, one minute and deemed a foul the next minute, challenges from behind which again are illegal in one instance and ignored the next instance etc. Unlikely of course that anything will be remedied because of the unwillingness of some hurling devotees to admit to any flaws in their game. And of course so sad to hear of John O'Mahony's death - a true stalwart, he fought the fight and helped make the world a better place and that's as much as anyone can do. RIP John. In the heat of battle, around mid way in the second half, when maybe 4 down a Limerick attacker went for goal when it wasn't on but a point was - did that tell us they knew all wasn't well in the tank? I didn't see Dublin's fall coming and this one didn't even cross my mind - just goes to show how fortunate we are with such a brill sport. Anyway Vet, do you see any resemblance with our own tank in '82? Did the mind drain itself, and consequently the bodies? Now I'd need to take another look as I'm prone to excitement induced misjudgement but it is a fair question, and no better man to put it to? PS Vet as regards refs, I'd be happy once the rules are consistent - I'd recommend anyone with an opinion here to in the first instance talk to a ref. I did and as they say it changed my mind about margarine! Just look at soccer where I believe they may have 100+ cameras in big games - they say the camera doesn't lie but look at an incident from different angles and you will seldom arrive at the same conclusion. And that is with the bigger ball - reffing hurling, impossible, but as I say, consistency is all that can be asked for. As I am at it - did ANYONE sense that outcome yesterday as a possibility, even remotely? We'd take no notice of the garsoons among us but what about you Vet - you are a seasoned observer who has been around the block here a few times? The successive fall of both raging favourites must be unprecedented, LUDU Limerick, Unbelievable, Dublin, Unforeseen, Unseated, Un... whatever you're having yourself!

A lot of Limerick's issues can be pojnted at the the loss of Caroline Currid, her absence was the difference in my opinion, she also wasn't on the line in their semi final loss to Kilkenny...

The loss of Barry Nash and Peter Casey made all the difference. Limerick have lost 2 knockout games in the last 7 years and Barry Nash was absent for both.

I see where Mickey Harte has stepped away. Appropriate I suppose that it was Kerry that guillotined him at the end.

Five in a now as far away for all hurling counties as it could be. I know that was/ possibly still is a great Dublin football team since 2011. Still the child in me can't be reminded of '82 without begrudging them. If ever a team deserved a FIAR it was that Kerry team.

I wouldn't be too sure that we won't see Harte on a sideline again this year with Derry was poor but what he did with louth might encourage a lower div team put out the feelers. Kildare for example are managerless...

I said as soon as the Harte appointment was made that I considered that this ruled out Derry for the year. Yes this opinion wavered after the league.
I think the Derry County Board have been brave here in that they have effectively admitted they made a mistake.
Have heard murmurings about a return by Rory Gallagher. I would be surprised because that would come from some dissent from many quartets.

Harte is finished i think, he wont come back. watched him closely at the game last week and his body language suggested a man that was at end of his tether and that was him finished (his own decision)

Annascaul - nothing and I mean nothing - was as heartbreaking as 1982 . Will never be forgotten for those in Crocker that day . Not a word or conversation was heard in the silent train home that night.

And then Kerry have the chance to stop Dublin eclipsing the Golden Years team... but cannot take that chance. It broke my heart.

I have been reading various comments on line and elsewhere regarding the stepping down of Mickey Harte . A lot of the comments have been unkind and uncharitable.
I feel a bit uneasy with all the dancing on his grave. Irrespective of his faults ,irrespective of the style of football he patented, it should be acknowledged that he brought three All-Irelands in one decade to a county which never before won one. As far as I can recall he moulded most of those seniors at underage level. His achievements were phenomenal.

I know this is a silly and petty thing to be annoyed about but does it bother anybody else that Kerry players wear about 4 or 5 different colour socks? I’ve noticed at least 2 different type of green socks, the traditional hooped sock and white socks. There is just something unprofessional about it in my mind. I remember a club manager of mine years ago insisting that we all wear the same gear in the same colours.
Like i said, it’s a petty thing but it kinda bugs me and was remeonded of it this morning listening to Andy Moran talking about John O Mahony dropping players from a school team for wearing the wrong gear.

As far as I can recall he moulded most of those seniors at underage level. His achievements were phenomenal. I'd echo the above . Incredibly successful , took a team that had never won it to three All- Irelands in 6 years . Changed the way the game is played and the style he introduced has had an enduring impact , albeit not to everyone's taste . His teams in the 2000s were hard nosed and uncompromising to put it mildly but they had some unbelievable players as well . Peter Canavan ,Brian Dooher , Eoghan Mulligan , Stephen O'Neill , Sean Cavanagh , Ryan McMenamin, Philip Jordan etc. That Tyrone team that he molded changed the way everyone views Tyrone , even now in a fallow year they are considered a dangerous opponent . His time with Louth was relatively decent , he instilled some belief there and got them moving in the right direction. I think his season with Derry will be a mere footnote , he looked more to his template than the players he had at his disposal . In my opinion he is one of the most consequential managers the GAA has ever seen , right up there with Mick O'Dwyer , Brian Cody , Jim Gavin et.al . Not everybody's cup of tea but then again neither were the previous three.

The Red Parrott, I spent an evening in there few years back, herself went to Westlife with a few friends, I went to the pub after walking them up, I ended up in rounds with two similar souls, one from Tyrone and one from Mayo, being three Westlife Widowers for the evening...... funny night....

I agree with you. While watching back one of the Kerry matches in ouŕ house a few weeks ago, this was a topic of conversation with the 4 of us. It doesn't look like a team effort when players can go doing their own thing. There was 3 different types of green and gold socks, and 2 others wearing white socks. It might not seem important to some, but it doesn't look right to me.

Regarding Mickey Harte, I wouldn't be as kind as others here to behonest. From a football perspective he had a fabulous team in the 2000s who you would begrudgingly tip your hat too. However there was a nastiness to his teams like the incident with Gooch in 05 or his excusing McKinnless stamp by claiming Comer made a meal of it. Moving to Derry was a pure ego trip and beyond the pale in my opinion. Jack too Cork anyone ?? His off the pitch views/actions like providing a character reference in court and his involvement in opposing repeal the 8th or the marriage equality referendum. Not for me. I can understand your viewpoint but I grew up in an era when Jimmy Barry Murphy was probably the gaa s first superstar (media wise)but Cork and many neutral counties felt Kerry blackguarded him highly and not within the rules. As a ypung man I asked older people who said "you do what you have to do to win".But some of us in Kerry did nt like it when Tyrone were over physical with us.I have seen lots of nasty stuff over the years by many counties including Tyrone but We in Kerry have done many a nasty thing from sledging to dark arts .In fact I would say the in the scheme of dark arts Kerry and Dublin were well up there with Tyrone. In fact reading Owen Mulkigans books years ago he said the worst players he came across for sledging were from Dublin and Kerry. I'm not sure what part Mickey Harte or a manager in general has to do with the players skullduggery. Seán Boylan's Meath team was a right rogues' gallery and he always gets a free pass. They were far worse than Tyrone, in fact they probably brought on Tyrone's steelier edge from how they bullied Tyone around Croke Park in the 96 semi-final. Kerry avoided that Meath team bar in 86 which was a clean game I believe, so Kerry people never say anything negative about that Meath team but Cork, Tyrone and the Dubs could tell some tales.

There was a lot of talk in the media about the lack of jeopardy in the group stages.
The Irish women’s soccer team have played five games in their Euro 25 campaign . They have lost them all and have one more game to play. Even if they win that they are out . Well, no. If they lose it they are definitely out because they would have lost six out of six. Well, no. Apparently, they then advance to a best losers qualifying round! Now, that is what I call lack of jeopardy! No , doubt the media will still categorize them as heroines all, The hypocrisy repels
