Hurlingman, while I haven’t read the charter of the supporters club as far as I know their remit is not the direct promotion of football or hurling,The only time I hear them referenced concerns the arranging of match buses. As I have said in my previous post , I have no doubt they would arrange buses to hurling matches as well if there was demand for same. Now of course it is conceivable that the hurling fraternity have asked them to satisfy an existing demand but the supporters club refused . I would be surprised and disappointed if that was the case. Perhaps you have credible evidence that this occurred? I know they do hold a function at the end of the year where they hand out awards for achievements during the year. Not having attended these functions I am assuming there are awards for hurling performances as well. Again , maybe you have contrary information . As regards the County Board , I do remember Stephen Molumphy giving a lengthy interview at the beginning of the year, maybe in the Kerryman, saying that he lacked for nothing from them as regards his preparation of the Kerry hurling team. I have heard fellows like James McCarthy , for instance, on Terrace Talk rarely criticise the County Board as regards the promotion of hurling. Neither have I heard managers of Kerry underage hurling teams criticise the board as regards any shortcomings they perceive to exist. That is not to say the situation is perfect. Nothing ever is. As regards myself and the County Board. indeed I have criticised them in the past and will continue to do so when it is appropriate . Unlike others, I don’t do it reflexively. Indeed one issue when I castigated the Board was in connection with the numbers on the jerseys which has not been resolved to my satisfaction. I was reminded of this in Killarney today when a young lad stood in front of me wearing a Kerry jersey. On the back of the jersey was a white square measuring about 6” x 6”. Then you had huge number eight in black inscribed on that white square. Perfect . Years ago that was how the jersey numbers were clearly and visibly displayed. Please take note , County Board Officer. Anyway hurlingman , I will conclude by saying I am quicker to criticise the Board than you are to praise them. Perhaps , you have no reason to praise them. In conclusion , I suppose this comment will be of little consolation , but aren’t you the lucky man you are not a football supporter in, for example, Kilkenny or Tipperary. Your citizenship would be revoked! While management etc will tell the media all is well imo it's not the case. To the CB hurling is very much an after thought. Of course they've no issues with fundraising at hurling games but how much of it actually goes back into hurling is questionable. As others have said, Kerry are basically playing an All-Ireland semi final today and between both the Kerryman and Kerryseye there's about two pages of coverage.

A heavy loss to finish what can only be described as a mixed bag of a season.
Less said about the league the better! But at least turned it around for the McDonagh Cup.
Assuming Molumphy isn't given another term the next appointment should be interesting. Most likely it'll be another outside man. Hopefully this time around it'll be someone with some sort of experience and success behind them. The dream appointment would be Antony Daly, although he's been out of management for a good few years at this stage.

Listening to radio Offaly blew us away in second half . Highly unlikely Molomphy will want or indeed be offered another season id agree Daly would be a good appointment if we dpnt appoint a local maybe a joint managment along the lines of BrendanoSullivan!/ Maurice Leahy .

A gap has opened up between Kerry and the top 2. It's not entirely surprising after the league but that confirmation is disappointing. Daly would be an interesting appointment.

Anthony Daly has a lucrative sinecure with RTÉ and the Irish Examiner. I doubt if he will sacrifice that for the privilege of coaching the Kerry hurlers . Unless of course he does a Brendan Cummins.

Kerry have definitely lost ground in recent times. A lot imo comes down to club level. I think the Laois champions were in the Leinster senior final in recent years. While Kerry clubs still struggling to make an impact at Intermediate level. But of course the timing of the county championship puts Kerry clubs at a huge disadvantage as well.

Rounds 3 & 4 have confirmed what we all expected at the start of Joe McDonagh cup - that Laois and Offaly are in a different league to us, Down & Meath. The only surprising thing is that Westmeath are with us in the also-rans as opposed to being with Laois & Offaly at the top. If this competition had been run the same way as the league, we'd still be in with a great chance of playing in a semi-final. Personally, I'd favour expanding the competition to 8 teams, with the final as a curtain-raiser to the Liam McCarthy final in Croke Park. The idea that you can play for 2 all Ireland competitions (Joe McDonagh + Liam McCarthy) in the one season is bizarre. Important for this group of players that we finish strongly next Saturday. Wishful thinking, but it would be great to see a good crowd to support the team - this might entice the lads to put in the same effort and commitment next year. Finally, I'd like to see a few of the younger lads, who have had very little game or no game time, get a start against Meath.

Id hope Kerry will give fringe players the start against Meath after a hard year training. Good point made there with the Kerry champions playing intermediate maybe its a bad idea but if the Kerry champions played in Munster senior for say 2 years to see how they do its all about raising the bar. And i think promotion to 1b next year is hugely important thats why Antrim and Offaly and Laois have pushed on from playing the top sides

The timing of the county hurling championship is wrong and it is to facilitate 2 county football championships, just get it out of the way while the kerry footballers are still in the championship is clearly the approach. how the county board get away with it I do not know, it is along the lines what Kilkenny do with football It will come to a head some year when a hurling club has a key player for them with the kerry senior football team and says it will not play senior hurling county championship without him, it will force the board into a tight corner still, it is no excuse for Kerry clubs not winning the munster intermediate championship, they didnt win one when the county hurling final was played in late september. Kilmoyley won Munster 3 years ago when they had the long break and it worked in their favour and Crotta made a great stab at it in 2023. In fact it suited them , they had a few weeks to celebrate their first county title in over 50 years, play football with Senans and then come back into the hurling. Beat the Waterford champions and lost to Castlelyons in extra time who won the Munster final after

Your citizenship would be revoked! the county board looks after the inter county hurling teams well Sean Kelly changed things in that regard when he was county board vice - chairman with responsibility for hurling, pushed it on more when he was chairman. I know hurling men who were involved with Kerry county teams when Jerome Conway was vice chairman and they had great time for Jerome. This is the way it has been since I cannot criticise the board on this front, some negative posts on another matter, see earlier sometimes the clubs dont help themselves as well. The format for the kerry county senior hurling championship in 2024 is just silly, no team is eleminated afer the group stages!!!! Apparently the board put forward what I consider better formats but clubs favoured the mess we ended up with

For the record, the team named is: L Dee E Leen, D Griffin, F McCarthy B Keane, E Murphy, K O’Connor R Walsh, C Walsh G Dooley, D Goggin, K Hayes B Barrett, F Mackessy, M Leane Subs are: D Quirke, D Kearney, D Reen, D Shanahan, D Woulfe, F O'Sullivan, L Crowley, N Mulcahy, R O'Mahony, T O'Connor, T Doyle Given that this is the last match of this year, the very least that I expected is that the captain for the year, Tomas O'Connor, would have been given the chance to lead out the team. I'm open to correction on this, but I think that he's been on the bench for the other games, but his only play was as a sub the last day in Offaly, at a time the team were really struggling.

I too would have thought a few panel members would have got a start, although as said it may still happen.
A win would be a good end to a very mixed season.

So Stephen Molumphy has stepped down as manager.
Had what looked like it waa going to be a good term in charge but really ended badly this season. While I know he didn't have all the players available to him but there may have been other reasons behind it as well.
While the CB now have plenty of time to look for someone new I wouldn't hold my breath on it being done anytime soon.

As someone not as familiar with the hurling, can anyone name the lads who could be playing that are not? I’m guessing Barry Mahoney, Trant, Padraig Boyle are a few but there seems to be loads from the general word

A dead rubber today and it had the feel of it. Gavin Dooley probably man of match with two goals. Molomphy had many obstacles with players not commiting and other reasons . Ideally the search for managment should begin immediately with the county championship starting soon or will more choice come up when intercounty ends?

Molomphy's departure.. Good or bad for the county hurlers? Reading between the lines a few of the small ball lads have not been a fan..
Who would you like to take over and more so who realistically would be in line to take the bib.
Do we go internal or external?

The league campaign in 2024 was poor But wins in the Joe McDonagh over Westmeath, Down and Meath were noteworthy. At the start of the campaign no one saw us getting 3 wins. The reality is we are a level below Laois and Offaly at the moment. I think Molumphy did remarkably well to get 3 wins in the Joe McDonagh without the likes of Shane Conway. He raised standards in terms of fitness and discipline during his term, Some young players blooded the last 2 seasons - Colin Walsh, Ronan Walsh, Luke Crowley People talk of all the players that didnt commit this season In reality the Boyles, Sean Weir , Daniel Collins, JB Hallaron retired after years and years of service and this was always coming no matter who was manager. Eoin Ross and Barry Mahony were always going travelling, Jordan Conway is based in the U.K. now Is Cillian Trant on the extended Kerry senior football panel? He was a young player who could really have pushed on this year So on the round, you are dealing with maybe 2 or 3 players who didnt come in and I am not too sure they are any better than what it in there

Great points Mossie. Its a big appointment coming for Kerry if they are serious about progression i think Molomphy did a decent job considering all that that was thrown his way. Some might laugh or scowl at the idea of Davy Fitz coming in because i cant see him staying on with Waterford . Maybe its not high profile enough for him or maybe it would suit him the way things are goin but surely he could get another level of reaction from the county because like Mossie said we are not down that many players and the job is generally short term which would suit him

First off, I'd like to thank all of the Kerry players and management who gave up so much to represent the county this year. Their commitment should not be understated or undervalued. It was a tough year at all grades (senior, U20 & minor). That said, Saturday was very disappointing. I know the weather was miserable, but Meath were woeful and we need to be more ruthless if we are going to move to the next level. I've already stated that we should have given more of the squad a game - I think our 2nd 15 would have beaten this Meath team. Most of their scores came from frees, the majority of which were needless. It was a game riddled with mistakes - a very frustrating watch. A win is a win, but it didn't feel like a win! At the start of the year, I thought that we should have concentrated on the league - promotion in the league seemed more attainable than a Joe McDonagh cup. That said, I wasn't in Westmeath, but was thrilled at the result & I thought we did what was needed at home to Down. Laois were just too good for us.
PS - It was good to see Darragh Power look so impressive for the Dubs on TV yesterday.

For a man who's managed an All-Ireland winning team no county he's been with has ever befited in the long term with him. There's apparently a rumour about an ex inter county comogie player taking over. Stephen Goggin is another name who's supported to be in the mix. Him along with Ian Brick would be my picks if it was to be a Kerry person to take the job. If it's to be another outside name, while highly unlikely Antony Daly would be the dream appointment. Eoin Brislane from Tipp would be someone who would be an interesting one imo. Won an Intermediate All-Ireland with Monaleen and has quite a bit of couching experience.

Daly would be good but get the vibe he is happy with his current various commitments.

Dare I say Donal O'Grady of Ballingarry and Limerick would be a great fit. He is a great motivator, isn't too far away from North Kerry and he always gives everything for his teams. He has been with a very successful Limerick set up for years now and has done wonders with Granagh Ballingarry. Whether Kerry could lure him away from Limerick is another mnatter.
