hopefully the hurling folk come out to support Kerry on Saturday this group deserve it after the last 2 performances and victories be an amazing feat to topple Laois cannot see it happening but you d never know wonder would we be better off taking these games into the heart of North Kerry and bringing the bigger teams there, bigger crowds, tigher pitch etc? not sure which hurling pitch is the best but it would be great to see a big championship game played in Ballyduff for example. a couple of other counties do it....

It’s a pity about the support for the county hurlers when you see the massive crowd, colour and atmosphere that was at the Crotta v Lixnaw county final last year. The hurling club final in Kerry is a truly great occasion I must say.

Offaly and Laois have the better recent track record to be fair. Laois will be a tough test. They have the results of a team on a mission. It will give a good indication of where Kerry are. With a two week break to come, Kerry should just go for it. They'll need to bring a high conversion rate tomorrow if they are to have a good chance of causing an upset.

Now in fairness the divisional aspect of the football doesn't help, nor the weather considering the football can be 2 months later. There was a pretty good atmosphere with the Rockies v the Narries in 2021 but still the hurling is just far more tribal, more visceral, dare I say it, more life or death!! Like the replay (I think) in 1999 and the big tunnel bust up between us and Lixnaw - they might have won the war but hell what a battle

Nothing wrong with ASP I reckon, we deserve a stage like that these times. The Kerry boys are well able to put in performances there.

Dissapointing result today just that step behind all the time. Good crowd on the fine day even if Laois brought a nice few . On the positive side Maurice o Connor and Goggin will surely never be as quiet again and Mackessy is in the form of his life. Too many long hopefull balls in first half on full forward line and when Daithi Griffin was acting as sweeper the Laois half forwards had world of space . All in with a bit of improvement and a bit of luck i think we can rattle Offaly

Availing of a rare opportunity to attend ASP twice in a few days, two things struck me -
1. Keepers of both Kerry U20s and Hurlers made amazing saves, yet 'analysts' go on as if they were scored and almost adjust the tally accordingly. Like horse racing, if you don't jump a fence then it is a flaw, and don't blame the fence!
Tansley fielded one that was truly remarkable - show me a better one? Most would have punched to safety, into the arms of an waiting opponent! Dee had two brilliant saves but all we hear is that they were as good as two goals against us.
Now I'm no expert here but the Indo report I read was guilty here and the tally didn't flatter us at all. E.g. No mention of Laois going for goals that weren't one and when a point would have stretched things, and which they didn't get in 2 instances I saw.
2. Does Luke Crowley suffer from 'clubitis' - an ailment picked up when there is nobody better to pass to, so he tries to do all the work himself, and it generally works, well at club level anyway and where Luke will outrun any defender and indeed any number of them. But then he meets a different class of defender at inter-county level and we know the rest.
I have seen this before and Luke is the same in both codes - what a player he'd be if this was addressed. I think he stands wrongly accused of being greedy, it is just a habit of all those formative years. He did pass the ball on Sat and though it wasn't ideal, at least he knows it is the way to go. He will also live longer as not alone does he currently draining the tank but he will meet those lazy hoors of defenders who delight in bringing greats like Luke down a notch.
Anyway two great games, oozing of energy by all four teams to the very end.

Westmeath and Down drew yesterday so a good result for Kerry. Big game to come against Offaly next time out.

Offaly v Kerry is more or less a semi-final at this stage. 4 wins will secure a place in the final.

But you would need every hurler available in Kerry for that to happen. You can’t have lads not committing or dropping off panels. If Kerry had all their best hurlers playing they’d give it Wexford and Dublin.

If you had the likes of Brian Murphy, Shane Nolan, Shane Conway, Jordan Conway among others you'd be looking at a very good panel. But as has long been the issue Kerry rarely ever have anything close to a full panel particularly in recent years.

The word is that Luke Crowley will not be part of the panel on sunday with the football u 20 in final on saturday. Interestingly the bookies arent giving Kerry much of a chance with offaly 1/10 and Kerry 13/2 Im hoping we can really push them and maybe even beat them because i think they are probably thinking that they are a step above Mcdonagh even though they probably are not

I know before the Tailteann Cup started there were interviews with Division 4 football managers who spoke of significant numbers of lads (in the region of 50) turning down invitations to join county football panels. That's just the nature of the beast.

All the main players take up the call.

Hard to disagree with the odds. Offaly made the final last year and were in Division 1. Many of us suspected Laois would be too strong. Offaly probably ahead as well. A lot would have taken this position at the start to be going to Offaly lookout for a result that should deliver a final. Hopefully we'll see another cracking performance similar to the opener against Westmeath.

I have no doubt the supporters club would arrange a bus to Tullamore if there was demand . They are arranging buses to Portlaoise for the u20s because obviously there is sufficient demand. Respectfully, it is not the job of the County Board to arrange match buses

What do you expect them to do? Ring people and ask them would they like to go to Tullamore on Sunday. That’s not the way it works. There are three names with their phone numbers on the website. You ring them if you wish to travel to a particular match. If there is sufficient interest a bus will be arranged. I think a bus carries 50 passengers. All the supporters club wants is enough patrons to cover the expense of hiring the bus for the day. Clearly, it is not economically feasible to hire a bus if say only twenty souls wish to travel. Accordingly, if ,once more ,some hurling folk think they are getting a raw deal they should become proactive and inform the committee they feel there is sufficient interest in arranging a bus to a particular hurling match. I have no doubt the supporters club would accommodate them. Why would they not? Incidentally, I am not a member of the supporters club committee but I have occasionally travelled on the bus. A great service. The odd time I rang them inquiring if they were arranging a bus for an underage Kerry match to be told there was not sufficient interest . I didn’t come off the phone feeling they weren’t doing enough for football. Some hurling people should be aware that everybody is not out to do them down. Strange as it may seem the fault may lie within.

You hear them promote it with football all the time. I'm aware that hurling will never be as big as football in Kerry but I just find it odd how the "Kerry supporters club" only seems to be interested in one side of Kerry county games. To say that the lack of promotion of hurling is the falt of hurling people themselves is quite a comment to make. You're always very quick to defend the CB one here. Well can you honestly say they've been doing their job when it comes to promote hurling? Will their even be a CB official at the game tomorrow? Or will they reply on Offaly to do the coverage for them? Something that's regularly happened in the past.

Lads you only have to look at the Kerryseye this week and the offaly game gets about the bottom third of the page coverage. I understand football is king in Kerry but i do feel our hurlers at times dont get the recognition and coverage they deserve

Hurlingman, while I haven’t read the charter of the supporters club as far as I know their remit is not the direct promotion of football or hurling,The only time I hear them referenced concerns the arranging of match buses. As I have said in my previous post , I have no doubt they would arrange buses to hurling matches as well if there was demand for same. Now of course it is conceivable that the hurling fraternity have asked them to satisfy an existing demand but the supporters club refused . I would be surprised and disappointed if that was the case. Perhaps you have credible evidence that this occurred?
I know they do hold a function at the end of the year where they hand out awards for achievements during the year. Not having attended these functions I am assuming there are awards for hurling performances as well. Again , maybe you have contrary information .
As regards the County Board , I do remember Stephen Molumphy giving a lengthy interview at the beginning of the year, maybe in the Kerryman, saying that he lacked for nothing from them as regards his preparation of the Kerry hurling team. I have heard fellows like James McCarthy , for instance, on Terrace Talk rarely criticise the County Board as regards the promotion of hurling. Neither have I heard managers of Kerry underage hurling teams criticise the board as regards any shortcomings they perceive to exist. That is not to say the situation is perfect. Nothing ever is.
As regards myself and the County Board. indeed I have criticised them in the past and will continue to do so when it is appropriate . Unlike others, I don’t do it reflexively. Indeed one issue when I castigated the Board was in connection with the numbers on the jerseys which has not been resolved to my satisfaction. I was reminded of this in Killarney today when a young lad stood in front of me wearing a Kerry jersey. On the back of the jersey was a white square measuring about 6” x 6”. Then you had huge number eight in black inscribed on that white square. Perfect . Years ago that was how the jersey numbers were clearly and visibly displayed. Please take note , County Board Officer.
Anyway hurlingman , I will conclude by saying I am quicker to criticise the Board than you are to praise them. Perhaps , you have no reason to praise them.
In conclusion , I suppose this comment will be of little consolation , but aren’t you the lucky man you are not a football supporter in, for example, Kilkenny or Tipperary. Your citizenship would be revoked!
