I’ll hold my hand up too, I was sure a hammering was on the cards. If Kerry can beat Down next weekend in Tralee they will be in a very good place for the rest of the competition. I expected Kerry to be beaten over 10points I must admit Well done to the management and squad

Looks like the same team starting against Down with the very welcome addition of Dan Goggin on the bench

With one swallow not making a summer, not entirely sure what to expect tomorrow. Down might have been considered favourites after the league until that phenomenal performance last week. Westmeath were a bit complacent last week. Down will have been targetting this game for a while. If Kerry can back up last week's performance, they should bag another win, which should at this early stage effectively guarantee McDonagh status. Will be some turn around after the fear around that after the league!

I really don't understand why TG4 could be given the McDon to broadcast.

Unfortunately for Meath they look like being cannon fodder in the Mcdonagh cup. Offaly beat westmeath by 6 points

Id be confident of a win tomorrow and with Goggin and Brandon Barrett with fire power off the bench unless they decide to start them

Level at half-time. Kerry 10 pts. Down 2-4. Kerry have hit a lot of wides, similar problem to the league. The first goal down scored was disappointing from a long range free. Got a lucky break then than Down wasted a good goal scoring opportunity. Kerry should be more than 5 points up for all the possession they've had in this first half.

Kerry win 0-26 to 2-12. Ran out comfortable winners in the end after Down had a man sent off. Kerry's conversion rate in the final quarter was impressive. That should be McDonagh status secured. Laois up next. A test of final ambitions.

Laois up next. A test of final ambitions. Kerry probably won’t beat Laois, who seem a cut above this level, but Kerry will beat Meath and if they can get something out of the Offaly game they will be in the Joe McDonagh final. Kerry obviously put in a serious pre-season during the league as they are flying fit and peaked at the right time for the Joe McDonagh cup. It’s been some turn around for this group.

Ya assuming we lose to Laois but get the job done V Meath, it essentially means offaly game is a semi final.
Playing the 3 toughest games away though is a huge factor and this teams never seems to get the rub of the green in that respect, will need to earn a final spot, the hard way

Kerrys fitness told in the end but the sending off seemed to help big time. Daithi Griffin ,Eric Leen ,Colin Walsh Maurice o Connor had great games While Luke Crowley looked dangerous and Dan Goggin coming on swung the game .Great win despite all the wides in the tricky wind.

After the league, I think we were happy to be at home to Down and Meath! Kerry v Laois last year was relegated to a dead rubber with Offaly B ensuring Carlow made the final. Next week should give a clearer picture of where Kerry are. The extra man today changed the game at the end.

Look like we have Joe McDonagh status secured which us great as at the outset, we looked at risk of slipping to Christy Ring. Now there are whisperings about making a final! I think we will find Laois and Offaly that bit too strong but who knows Dan Goggin was a revelation today when he came on. He has to start the next day and Brandon Barrett. Have to put our best foot forward from the start v Laois and dont let them put up too big a score early on

Bit of an odd game, we must've hit 15+ wides and our defense looked seriously frail anytime Down ran at us, the two goals are testiment to that. The sending off helped us massively, the game was level pegs until then, but it's a huge upgrade on the dreadful league form.
Have to echo the lads mentioning Goggin from Causeway, I thought he was a gamechanger, all and all a really enjoyable match to watch

The Offaly game could be a case of just going for it with nothing to lose.

Is Goggins from Tralee or Causeway? I often wondered how he came about to play with Causeway & Na Gaeil. Usually Causeway lads would play football with Ardfert or North Kerry football clubs.

Molumphy: "Laois coming to town next week they could land us back on our arse with a heavy bang and that’s what they’ll come to do." Definitely a tough one coming up but it will tell a lot. Throws in at 3pm on Saturday. It'll be on clubber as well.

Barry O'Mahoneys off to America, so that looks like one reason he didn't commit to the hurlers this year.

Heard this a long time back People blaming Molumphy for players not committing, the move to the states was happening irrespective of who was manager If Crotta are in a county hurling semi final I wouldnt rule out Barry flying home for it though!!

Causeway lads have traditionally played football for Ballyduff and still do Brandon Barrett is the only Causeway player that I can think of who played football for Ardfert Maurice Leahy the famous hurler from Causeway was a decent footballer by all accounts, cant recall who he kicked football with though I remember him playing corner back for the Brendans Board but cant recall the club I swear it might have been Ballyheigue Re Dan Goggin, well Goggin is a strong Causeway name anyways! not sure of how he is Na Gaeil and Causeway
