More Kerry than Dubs nominated. Shurely some mistake!! (Ha!)
Vaughan nominated but his destroyer Reidy not?
Cussen three points from play the whole season?
Cork (going into the final) rated as the best defence in the country get two nominations in the backs...
Masters? Top scorer in the championship alright with something like 3 26 but 3 10 of that was against Tipp and Limerick. What did he get from play outside of those games. He was also missing the semi and effectively missing in the final.

Tom O'Sullivan and Padraig Reidy can feel hard done by to a point - who would you drop from the back nine is the question.....I'd probably drop Donovan from Sligo.....he had a good game in the worst provincial final of the lot.....

I can't believe Shane Ryan isn't nominated, he was Dublin's best midfielder yet Whelan gets in despite his disappearing act... again. There's a lot of players moved out of positions in the nominations, as usual it looks like it could be a bad selection

Worse, Masters is there despite not having done anything since before the Munster final.

Scanlon should get an all star and he hasn't even got a nomination. Very disappointed that Scanlon is left out - you have to ask yourself are they looking for the best 15 or trying to spread it around as many counties as possible. They should remember that sporting excellence and democracy are not compatable!

I think they didn't watch any Cork games besides the final.... all stars should be given out on consistently good performances in every game over a year not just two games in mnster against d might of clare and limerick. there is d odd exception where a player will get one 4 brillant performances in d semi and final ie star and mahony

From the looks of it they are basing Kerrys nods from the quarter final stages and not the final which is what I thought they would do.. Scanlon did good in the semi and had a great final but prior he was ok, Not overly upset over that. Reidy also solid enough all year but got a bit of roasting in the Monaghan game.. Now tom Sullivan is again in hard luck.. He is a quiet non flashy player and gets the job done over looked no doubt he had a great season should be there. Other than that I agree with Kerrys.

As usual, some strange ones, 2 for me stand out a mile...
Masters, dat's a joke, was prob worst player in final and didn't even play in semi final, Cork's best game all year by a mile.
Keenan midfield for Louth, O' Hara and Scanlon deffo deserve to be nominated ahead of him, an obvious case of giving Louth a nomination

Sorry but Keenan of Louth had a very very good year and has been mentioned by pretty much every pundit. Jack O'Shea gave him loads of praise on radio last night. Scanlon played well in a couple of games but remember he didn't feature in the Munster Championship. As for Masters like him or loathe him he was once again one of the leading scorers in this years championship with 3 - 27 before the final (was he top scorer?). To be honest I've very few complaints. Without hearing who our 10 were I correctly predicted who they would be (actually it was easier to predict the 5 left out!). Kerry will get 5 or 6. If we get 5 as opposed to 6 it won't be a disgrace (some tricky calls there). It won't be like 98 for example when Seamus was shockingly overlooked. We all tend to don the green and gold tinted spectacles with these things.

I think the selection is pretty much bang on. Personally the only complaint i have is O'Hara who really drove Sligo onto the Connaught crown. Can someone clarify if a person nominated in the full back line can be selected in the half back line? I also thought it was done by backs, midfield and forwards.

Whilst you could be nominated out of position you cannot win outside the line you were nominated in. For example Sean Kavanagh was nominated midfield so cannot win at half forward. Alan Brogan played most of his football on inside line but is nominated on 40. I agree with you that the noms are mostly bang on.

Other years might be enough but midfield is a hotbed this year with Kavanagh, O Sé and Murphy the favourites not to mention Whelan and Keenan who both had fine seasons. All there on merit. Reidy had decent season but was roasted in 1/4 final. He'll have his day eventually. Cussen you could argue either way to be fair. He won't win anyway.

I was a little tired when I posted last night. Lets just say I am surprised Cussen got nominated and McMahon didn't. As for Masters, he scored 3-30. The next one to him is Freeman with 3-23.

Masters was top scorer in the c'ship and had to get nominated, I think the fact that Cussen got nominated points to the fact that there were very few quality inside forwards on display all year.

Nominated surely but not close to making the team. Did he not get about 3 12 or so of his total against Tipp and Limerick. He scored very little after that and hardly anything from play.... Also note you can't get an award outside of the line you are nominated in. Bray and Brogan usually play in full forward line both nominated in the half forward line expect them both to pick awards (bray?!!)

For what its worth heres what I think the selection will be, although not necessarily the team I'd pick:
Brendan Murphy (Meath)
Marc O Se (Kerry) Graham Canty (Cork) David Henry (Dublin)
Tomas O Se (Kerry) Aidan O Mahony (Kerry) Barry Cahill (Dublin)
Nicolas Murphy (Cork) Darragh O Se (Kerry)
Declan O Sullivan (Kerry) Alan Brogan (Dublin) Stephen Bray (Meath)
Colm Cooper (Kerry) Donnacha O Connor (Cork) Thomas Freeman (Monaghan)
Thas breaks down at 6 Kerry, 3 Cork, 3 Dublin, 2 Meath, 1 Monaghan which I think is how it will pan out.
The judges may well opt for Whelan instead of either of Darragh or Murphy at midfield, but if they do they would have to put in another Kerry or Cork player in one of the other lines, perhaps Donaghy in Kerry's case, although I cant see who in Corks case (Masters or Cussen hardly).

Surely Killian Young will get one before Aidan O'Mahony. Perhaps, but if he gets "Young Players of the Year", which is likely, they might opt to give the All Star to O'Mahony. If Young does get an all star, I suppose you could just move Tomas to centre back with Young on the wing.

Scanlon was best midfielder on AI final day which should at least get him a nomination. Bray getting nominated in half-forward line is a joke when he was wearing No.13 all year.. it implies they've the team picked already. Shields and McMahon from Cork are unlucky to lose out.. they are more deserving than Cussen & Masters..

Buck, what about McCloy, Fay and Gormley in full back line? Marc has one of the spots sewn up but there's a fierce tight call for the other berths.

This year is like all the rest...plenty controversy. Hell will freeze over before everybody agrees on an All-Star team.
In fairness to the selectors, when I heard that Kerry got 10 nominations on the radio this morning, i was able to pick out the 5 that prob wouldn't get nominations and i'd have to say i agree with Kerry's allocation.

Buck, what about McCloy, Fay and Gormley in full back line? Marc has one of the spots sewn up but there's a fierce tight call for the other berths. Well the "figures wont add up" if you put in Fay instead of either Canty or Henry cos then Meath would have 4 with Dublin or Cork only having 2. What they might do is give the keeper to Cluxton, with Fay in the full back line ahead of Henry. That would keep the status quo of Dublin and Meath having 3 each. Gormley is probably deserving of an award and if he was picked in the half back nominations I'd have him there ahead of Cahill and probably O Mahony.
