Some teams are "Croke Park" teams.......... Kerry and Tyrone being the obvious ones. It turns them on. Some teams aren't and Derry are one in my book. Derry are dog fighters in the qualifiers around the country but its 1993 since they put it together in Croke Park.
I dont think they are better than Meath, and Dublin handled Meath easily enough in the replay. Add in 70000 fans in blue and I really cant see anything but a Dublin win. It will be interesting to see how the Dublin full back handles the high ball tactic of Derry.
Paddy Crozier is already saying that he cant wait to get a crack at Dublin....... all grist to the mill for Dublin.

Gone in 300 seconds Croker sells out in record time as Dubs' fans repay GAA for quarter-final fixture
Dublin fans will pack Hill 16 again when their team goes head to head with Derry in the All-Ireland quarter-final Tools Print Email Search Search Go By Daragh Ó Conchúir Wednesday August 01 2007
CROKE PARK'S decision to cash in on the pulling power of Dublin footballers was rewarded yesterday when their All-Ireland quarter-final against Derry became a virtual sell-out in less than 300 seconds.
The unprecedented demand was triggered by a limited allocation of tickets going on sale at 10am through the GAA ticket office and Ticketmaster; all were snapped up within five minutes.
The remaining tickets will be distributed through the counties with Dublin County Board expecting to receive 40,000 for their clubs.
The huge rush to see the Dubs is a ringing endorsement for the fixture-makers, whose decision to give the Leinster champions a stand-alone SFC quarter-final maximises the revenue potential.
As a result, Derry are likely to face a record number of opposition fans in the Croker cauldron on Saturday week.
The day's programme includes the All-Ireland MFC quarter-final between Cork and Derry, and the Nicky Rackard Cup final involving Roscommon and Armagh.
Cork, Roscommon and Armagh would not be expected to have more than 5,000 fans in Croker between them and with just 8,000 expected to make the trip from Derry, that could see somewhere in the region of 65,000 fans cheering on the Sky Blues.
This could be a record for one team's support and is further confirmation of Dublin's importance to the GAA's coffers.
But the Oak Leafers are adamant they won't be intimidated by the atmosphere. According to Derry PRO Gerry Donnelly, Paddy Crozier's players are relishing the prospect of running the Dublin gauntlet.
"I was in the dressing-room after the Laois game and I asked Paddy Bradley who he would want and he said 'the Dubs'. What player wouldn't want (to play in front of) 82,000 people in the middle of the summer? It's something you dream about, so we're delighted," he said.
Indeed, Donnelly offered a more positive view of Hill 16 than has been prevalent of late, with several reports focusing on unruly behaviour.
"We're well aware of the Dublin support and it won't bother us," he claimed.
"The thing about the Dubs is that they're not blinkered to their own side. We have found in the past that Dublin fans appreciate good players. If a player on the opposition side does something special - a good save, a score or a block - they are not oblivious to that."
Donnelly points to the 1993 All-Ireland semi-final decided by Johnny McGurk's late point to back up his argument.
"To come from four points down at half-time was some achievement and the players actually went up to the Hill afterwards to the Dublin supporters who had stayed on to applaud them. I think they used the Dublin support that day, they fed off it and we'll be hoping to do the same this time."

Will the dubs make any changes ?. I think Pillar might want to start Bonner for his physical pressence . The Derry defence is strong but not the quickest . In 2004 they folded very easily even though they caught a lot of ball at midfield Yes to Bonner I think, and it's better to have Jayo as sub. I'd still take Mossie Quinn ahead of Jayo to start the match Most of us want Moran in the half-backs for Casey, Bonner would do the Moran ball-winning job up front, and is more reliable for shooting

I still dont rate dublin. They have only met 1 decent team in the championship thisyear and meath took them to a replay. I think bradley and muldoon can cause them some problems and i wouldnt be one bit surprised to see a kerry derry semi final. I aintain that mconnell is not a full back and their half back line are too fond of attacking and it leaves their inside backs exposed

I aintain that mconnell is not a full back and their half back line are too fond of attacking and it leaves their inside backs exposed That's why Pillar has persisted with Casey, he minds the gaff (but his form has been poor & hasnt the football to justify staying in team) I dont agree that Catser Cahill does too much attacking. In fact in Casey & Cahill, we have two of the least attack-minded half-backs we've had in a long time I think Moran would do a good defensive half-back job, as well as being able to get forward & take a score. We also have Brennan & Goggins who can come in, Coman has alot of experience I agree that McConnell will now meet his real test, he's a very good footballer, but youth & inexperience make him a big risk

as i said before ballymun man mconnell is very weak. i dont agree goggins is any good as he has been tried and tested before and failed. moran couldnt kick a point 4 his life remember offaly game from 15 yards out. d full back will cost ye maybe it will be too late when ye realise i hope not though as kerry will get a shot at ye then. what an occasion.

Think Derry will put it to them, but the Dubs will just scrape it and media machine will rumble on. If Kerry make it thru to the semi then the media hype of a Kerry V Dublin game will reach circus proportions, with the dub players artfully playing the clowns, holding hands, bowing to the hill, teary eyed. Whilst behind them, footballers clad in Green & Gold will be tearing thru there pre match prep. No time or want for posturing. The blouses in blue think they have come a long way. Kerry are already there. Let the show commence.

johnnybriggs.... I see you are 25 years old so you have never experienced losing to Dublin in the championship........... better to keep the powder dry till the job is done........... I'm alot older than that, and have never seen (in the flesh) Dublin beating Kerry in the championship. One of the big disadvantages for us in the last few years has been that every time a possible "so-called dream clash" with the old enemy looms, yous always have the chance to get there first (the finals of 2002 & 2006, the semi this year), which leaves huge expectation and hype on us. Micky, McConnell has it all to prove, but he might prove it. Moran cant kick points like a forward, but he still gets one or two scores a game whatever position he plays. Thats fine from half-back at least

1978 was my first all ireland final so i have never seen Kerry lose to Dublin in the championship. If Kerry lost to Dublin in 1978, it would have been the third year in a row for Kerry to lose to Dublin which was intolerable.
I started working in Dublin in February 1978 and being a Kerryman in Dublin wasnt that easy......... the attitude was "very nice of Kerry to turn up so that Dublin can beat them and send them home again with their tail between their legs". By the time the final came the tension was palpable. Dublin going for 3 in row at Kerrys expense.
Even though the capacity was around 65000, it was possible to pay your few quid at the stiles to get access to the terrace. After 20 minutes it looked bad for Kerry....... all the play was towards the Hill and Kerry were being beaten all over the place. The Kerry forwards moved out the field and the Dublin backs followed....... and Kerry sprung the trap and John Egan goaled. Kerry got a foothold and then came the famous Mikey Sheehy goal against Cullen. The second half was beautiful........ goal after goal by the Bomber at the other end. Con Houlihan said that Mikey Sheehys goal ended the Kerryman joke forever.
1979....Keaveney was suspended and Kerry were rampant. Sheehy buried a goal in front of us on the Canal End early on. John Egan was awsome. That Dublin team were gone.
1984.. Dublin were reigning all Ireland champions. A few of the Kerry old guard had retired such as John o keeffe, Tim Kennelly but Tom Spillane, Timmy o Dowd , Ambrose o Donovan had arrived. The Bomber tormented Dublin. Pat Spillane was man of the match. Dublin rallied after Barneys goal but the Bomber steadied the ship and she sailed safely into port.
1985... In the first few minutes Jacko kicked two points from play into the Hill and then Kerry were awarded a penalty. Into the Hill.......Jacko buried into the roof of the net. In the second half Ger Lynch put Timmy o Dowd through and he slipped it past John o Leary and it looked game set and match for Kerry. Then..... John Kearins from Dublin launched two high balls into the Kerry goalmounth and Joe McNally scores two goals in minutes. Kerry are now just one point ahead. I can still feel the sick feeling that came over me. Dublin are everywhere. Kerry hold out and tacked on a few points to win
2001.... Thurles...... Kerry eight up and then one behind till Maurice levels it. Kerry win the replay thanks to Johnny Crowley who is on fire.
2004 Quarter Final ..... A goal from Dara o Cinneide sends Kerry on their way.
So......... nearly 30 years and I have never seen Kerry lose to Dublin.
Not yet!

But first comes Derry, and beyong Derry, none of this "dreaming" chat means more than a hill of beans (magic beans on The Hill!?? )

Well Rashers........ where does this Meath win leave Dublin? Looking good obviously. The drawn match between Meath and Dublin was a quality affair, spoiled for Meath by the ref. Yet in the replay Dublin won even though Meath had Brian Farrell who was suspended for the first game. Offaly and Laois were bad and Dublin cant be judged on those games. Meath are a good yardstck though and Dublin won by 6 points or so.
Do you agree?

From my perch on the old canal end I could clearly see the ball bouncing as Jacko picko up that ball in the square in front of the Hill. ;D

The ref in the Munster Final let Kerry away with lots of cynical fouling, and denied Cork a penalty at the end when he should have cancelled the advantage I'm revising my opinions after every game at this stage - Meath favourites to reach the final, Donegal out, Tyrone out - I expected changes this year, but not at all like this! If nothing else, Meath's continuing presence & improvement serves as a huge motivation to Dublin, because were they to get beaten by Derry, the thoughts of finishing worse off than Meath this year is just too much to bear Meath did not deserve to win the drawn match, never looked ready to take it, but they have grown since. They have also learned how to get referees changed. Still doubts about whether they can close out a game if the opposition use the ball well at the end - have Meath got a similar weakness to Dublin, of leaving themselves always hanging on near the end?

Its all fascinating stuff. My instincts watching the Dubs v Meath was that both of these two teams are on the cusp of something big.............
I can see how you would be sick watching a Meath v Kerry final ............. its makes you wonder about the merits of winning the provincial championships.

I think the dubs will scrape past Derry and people will write them off against hopefully kerry. Derry are a good strong team with superb fitness but the dubs have a bit more class. Dubs by 2points.

Muldoon has been named wing forward and playing a roaming role these last few games. I'm sure Derrys game plan will centre of stopping Dublin scoring goals, limit them to less than 2 goals and they've a great shout.

He caused alot of problems alright - he should have passed one of those balls and what in Gods name did he think he was going to achieve by shooting almost point blank on Cluxton!! He just gave Cluxton a run at another All Star too!!

Derry should have had a penalty at one stage, Tohill mentioned it on Sunday Game and saw it again myself, I think it was for the one stacks just mentioned above, the player that gave the ball to bradly was poleaxed straight after, split straight down the middle. Not seen it mentioned by the print media or indeed anyone since Tohill
