No ref has the balls to disallow a goal in front of the Hill when Dublin are playing unless its a goal for the opposition....... ask Meath. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz No ref has the balls to give a penalty against Kerry in front of the Hill, even when a Kerry player picks the ball up off the ground in the small parallelogram aj jaysus rashers. thats like us saying it was a push in the back... long time ago...

Rashers........ In a previous thread some months ago I suggested that unless Dublin play it long to a targetman at 14 they are going no where. I pointed out that Donaghy, Mulligan, Clarke and Crowley were examples from recent years. You disagreed......... saying that dublins attacking methods were fine. Now......... dublin change tack and you pretend that this is the way it always has been. Mick, he's not a "target man", not on his own like Donaghy & Cussen - he's one of 3 target men, though I grant you he's the best winner of high-ball that Dublin have up front (along with Cullen when he's CF). What I said in that discussion was that Dublin have plenty of players who can act as target men - ie win high ball. Therefore that they dont need to employ a high-tower ala Cussen, which is what you were suggesting to me. That was clearly your point, and Dublin have clearly not done that (MacConnell could have been used, or even Darren Magee, Johnny Barr in times past)

The moral now is that Dublin are a serius outfit and only Whelan and Sherlock are oldish.
We could be looking at a 1970s style dominence. 3 Leinsters in a row already.

This team are on their last year as a unit. If they dont at least reach the All-I final they will break up, and the management will go. Whelo & Jayo will retire anyway. Dublin clearly dont have the talent or strength in depth to match the teams of the past, not even the 90s team, who won two National Leagues, 5 Leinsters & appeared in 3 All-I finals. This team is the ha'penny place

How many of this Dublin team have U21 all ireland medals........... a lot True, quite a few have one U-21 medal, but how many counties have not translated success from u-21? Took Tyrone ages, Cork often havent done it, Laois are the best example, but there are many others. Donegal did manage to farm their one Sam from the remaining guts of an All-I U-21 winning team, but that was an exception

I think alot of this talk is based on Dublin banging in a few goals, but in general play, and in point-shooting, I dont see any improvement on the last 2 years

The Dubs looked good yesterday..
They do look like they can be serious enough contenders based on yesterday's performance..
They have been there or thereabouts in the last few years too but just that bit unlucky at times..
A factor to weigh in is how good were that Laois team?? There was a period in the second half when Dublin didnt really finish Laois off and Laois had the chances to really test Dublin.. They couldnt take them!
The Dubs though are definitely strong and fit enough.. They also have a few good footballers!!
Vaughan is becoming a more important player for them each time out and Whelen is playing better than he ever has..I'd say. Things seem to be coming together now for Dublin and this year will be as good a chance as they will have for a while...
They will have big tests ahead.
They are also shaking off their whole over hyped approach though it is and will be even more difficult to do as the Championship goes on..
The bunch of players and management I think have taken on board lots of criticism in recent years and will do their best to make it right this time round..
They are trying to use a low key, realistic approach and well so far it looks good for them..
As long as they dont get too confident in their own ability they will be alright and they may make the semi final or even a final..
Wouldnt be a bad thing at all for the GAA if they did!!!

I call it as I see it Abue. It's nothing to do with my confidence, I dont like shallow analysis of a team's ability/form - it's like the Evening Herald or the Star on here today with all the talk. I wasat thematch yesterday, I saw alot of weaknesses in Dublin's play Similarly, you wont hear me joining the chorus of Kerry fans going on about howgreat Cork are and that theyre a good bet for Sam. I know what they really think, and I'll say it - Cork wont win Sam this year, they are not there yet, they need another year's experience. I dont believe Dublin will win it either, though they have more experience than Cork. Simple as that. If I see something to change my mind I'll be the first on here to say it. If Dublin had done much better in The League I'd be confident, that was my analysis of how good they could be. I'll stick to calling it as I see it

Ya I get you rashers. It's hard to be confident when you haven't won in recent years. I know in our heart we will feel this could be our year, but the feckers on here bring us back to reality. But Rashers, I don't think they talk Cork up. One or two might say a few nice things, but I know when push comes to shove, they think Cork have no hope, even less hope than Dublin. As far as Kerry and Tyrone are concerned, with Armagh gone they have feck all competition.

I met Mick Galwey in Kilkenny a couple of weeks back - everyone was trying to get the rugby chat out of him, but I wanted to know who he thought would win Sam - he said, "It's Kerry & Tyrone all the way, no other team even near them". At last, an honest Kerryman - they should preserve him for genetic analysis

I'd say Kerry people can't win!!!
We are over confident on here and the vultures hate it and start sharping their knives to cut us if we lose..
We start talking up other teams' chances and well we are referred to as cute h...s and well not showing our real opinions..
Its a tough oul one.....
Both Cork and Dublin have showed signs of improvement over the last few years..
Kerry are at the top where the only way is down..
What do people expect Kerry fan's to think or act now??
The truth is nobody has an idea how Dublin and Cork will do in the remaining games..
Objectively they will have their hands full at best but they do have a good enough chance!!
Thats all I can say..

You didn't meet him at the comedy festival by any chance did you Rashers......might explain his answer :-)
On that note, Dublin looked impressive in parts yesterday, but.....if the Cullen pilgrimage (copyright my brother - people have taken less steps in Lough Derg on the three day outing), had been called, Dublin would not have had the momentum going into half time.
Dublin are very physical, but have yet to meet a team that can match them physically this year - they're in year three of their three year physical improvement cycle, as Kerry were last year. If they meet Tyrone or Kerry they won't have fellas bouncing off of them as much.
Whelan played well, but was given a mountain of space in the second half and was hardly contested at all.
The Brogans played very very well, and Bernard is going to be a star player on the Dublin team for some time to come. In either 1989 or 1990, his dad gave an interview to Magill magazine as part of a look back at the Heffo years with all the players. He pointed to his two kids in the garden and said that the older one was good and might make a decent footballer, but that the younger lad, Bernard, would be the star of the family.
Dublin are semi final material, but......if they meet Kerry or Tyrone, they won't be given half as much space i lar na bpairce, and there the problems may arise.
As to Brogan senior pointing at the scoreboard etc.......ya, no theatrics my arse.

That's fair enough Dec, we also dont know what Kerry will do, considering they have a new manager and have lost Pony & McCarthy, but we do know they will love that challenge, and to break the 2-in-a-row hoododd, as well as to beat Tyrone, who look certainties for the final. When you think about it, the very fact that Tyrone will be in the final will be huge motivation for Kerry, who will be playing in the 2nd semi-final. In that situation, I couldnt see Kerry being beat On a lighter note, the top team always gets the most criticism.......or the capital team Kerry get alot more positive than negative press, in all spheres of life!

I was a neutral observer at yesterday's match until dublin started their very unsportsmanlike behaviour. Cullen, Vaughan, Brogan and Whelan are the worst offenders...constantly goading their direct opponents, pointing at score boards and the like. Dublin can't get knocked out of the championship soon enough.

Watched the match on TV, have to admit they've got the swagger but when don't they always. I live in Meath surrounded by Dulchies who think all Dublin have to do is turn up, they've been talkin bout winning the All Ireland since the first match of the season. I still believe that they're not a first rate team yet. The amount of wasted scoring chances yesterday was ridiculous, they seem to build in a margin for numerous wides into their gameplan. Their second goal was jammy and should't have been given - if that hadn't happened I think we'd have seen a different result.

www.irishexaminer.com/irishexaminer/pages/story.aspx-qqqg=sport-qqqm=GAA-qqqa=sport-qqqid=37401-qqqx=1.aspHarrington hits out at ‘unfair’ Dublin bashing Tuesday, 17 July 2007 By Jim O’Sullivan and Jackie Cahill COUNTY Chairman Gerry Harrington last night jumped to the defence of the Dublin players criticised for taunting their opponents and inciting the crowd during Sunday’s Leinster SFC triumph over Laois. Harrington described the incidents as “spur of the moment things which happened in the heat of battle”. Mark Vaughan, Dublin’s top scorer with 1-6, was involved in the first incident when he taunted Darren Rooney after scoring his sides first goal. Later in the game, while play was at the other end of the field, Alan Brogan and substitute Kevin Bonner were engaged in ‘verbals’ before gesticulating towards Dubs supporters at the Canal End. After the referee’s attention was drawn to the incident, he issued a yellow card to Bonner. The initial response from Harrington was to point out that a similar incident occurred in the Kerry/Armagh All-Ireland quarter-final last year, involving ‘a Kerry forward.’ “It happened in the Ulster final on Sunday too,’’ he commented. “It’s unfair that Dublin players should be singled out in this regard.’’ However, when it was put to him that what happened in Croke Park didn’t look well, he said: “I would agree. We would not encourage our players to do that. “However, players are players. They come under fierce pressure and, in the spur of the moment, these things can happen.’’ The Leinster Council Chairman Liam O’Neill described the incidents as “regrettable” and hit out at former Dubs boss and Sunday Game TV panellist Tommy Lyons for diluting the incidents by insisting that ‘verbals’ are part and parcel of the modern game. O’Neill revealed that he has received phone calls and emails of complaint and he believes that managers are partly to blame for sending their players onto the field of play in an over-hyped state of mind. O’Neill reflected: “It’s regrettable and I don’t accept one of the men on the Sunday Game saying that verbals are part of the game.” He added: “It (goading) has no place in our games and it’s not part of sportsmanship. “There’s the quiet word in the ear and then there’s the loud, in your face response. “It has to be stopped and can only be stopped by managers. “It’s creeping in more and more and in senior games more than anywhere else. “And what are managers saying to players to send them into such a hyped state? “Years ago, if you scored a goal you’d smile to yourself quietly and then walk back to your position.” O’Neill is unsure if action will be taken against Sunday’s main offenders. “It wasn’t under our (Leinster Council) control. The Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) control the senior championship while we look after minor, U21 and intermediate. “I know there’s a rule governing ungentlemanly conduct which would come under the heading of ‘discrediting the association’ but I don’t know what action they will take, or even if they will take any. “But I don’t think that any player who acts like that on the field of play is benefiting his county.” It’s unlikely that the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) will take action, other than possibly issuing a general warning to players about behaviour on the field. One official, who preferred to remain anonymous, said such incidents could be viewed as a form of incitement, which could cause a row between fans.

Dublin are useless. Fact. They wont come within an asses roar of winning an all-ireland. Maybe if they get a handy draw they make the final but thats it. Every paper i read praised their defence. Their defence is pure **ite. Laois were waltzing thru them at will and could have stuck a couple of goals on em. As for vaughan, what a poser. Id like to see him at that carry on against tom o sullivan or tom se. He' be broke up. laois defended naively and that what cost them. Dublin play all these fancy soccer style one twos. All u have to do is stop the runner and get ur body in the way. Dublin are shocking under the high ball. Throw cooper, and donaghy at em and we'l;l be fine. Tyrone also look terrible under the high ball. A full back destroyed em whrn he was playing as a forward. Enuf said. I think kerry or cork would easily tame whats left out there. Maybe donehal have a shot but they'll surely go off the rails somewhere along the lin as usual

Mr. Tierney, I think you're dead right not to be getting carried away just yet. Dublin have yet to prove their ability to beat a top team. They are up there with Tyrone and Kerry in terms of fitness and physicality but that alone isn't enough to go all the way. I feel they might be lacking just a few more top class players and until they beat one of the top teams there is always going to be a touch of doubt among the players and management themselves. They may yet prove me wrong but at the moment one can't really look beyond Kerry or Tyrone as nobody else has the proven pedigree.

The Dubs were a disgrace yesterday. I am really dissapointed in Brogan (Alan). The peroxide one will get his h..e opened before long guaranteed. He was the one blowing before the league in Killarney that names like Monihan were unknown to him.......he got one sholder from the unknown one and was retired to the bench some what sore and sorry. Ricey O Sullivan O Shea or O Connor would eat him for fun. THERE IS NO PLACE IN OUR GAME FOR THE CARRY ON YESTERDAY FANS ARE ONE THING PLAYERS ARE A DIFFERENT STORY. Defensively the Dubs are very weak. If they offer one third the chances to Cork,Kerry,Tyrone of Galway they offered to Laois you are looking at a score board reading between fifteen to twenty scores of which they would be fortunate not to have 3 Goals. I hope they meet Cork. Both counties need the experience.Humility needed for the dubs Cork will give them good reason to be humble and Billy might learn a little about negative football which in his case is badly needed!!!!!

Laois were very poor on sunday, they have made no progress since winning the leinster final in '03.The game was over as a contest 10 minutes into the second half.laois had nothing to offer from there on in.You couldnt see this bunch winning an all-ireland to be honest,One leinster title is a tiny return for the amount of underage success they had since '96. The jury is still out on dublin, they went a long period again without scoring in the second half,a better team would have asked them a few questions during this period when laois were unable to do so.You always question the mental strenght of a team when you see a number of players showboating in that manner on a team.Time will tell how good dublin are.
Well myth no.3 of the summer was banished on sunday this time in relation to laois. Some suggested that micko was outdated in his methods late last year and that laois had underachieved under him.It was suggested that under kearns a new young manager armed with modern scientific methods and trailed by a possie of experts that this golden age of laois players would prosper under his guidance, well it didnt happen just as i suspected it wouldnt.Remember old fashioned micko wanted out of the laois job 3 years ago when pillar was appointed in dublin,i wonder why?. Just to remind younger members on this forum, old fashioned, outdated, unscienctific micko has contested in 21 senior all-ireland finals as a player and manager,it always bring a rye smile to my face when i hear people slight this great man and say he is lacking on the side line and is out dated,it laughable really. This man has forgotten more about football than the combined expertise of an average counties collective supporters/fans would think they know in total.
look at wicklow this year, they won no game last year, this year they won three in the league,at least one in the obyrne cup, played three games against louth and two extra times in the senior championship and now find themselves in the tommy murphy cup having won their semi final last saturday,i suppose this is underachievement too and they would do better with a more up to date modern manager.
21 all-ireland senior finals, who in the country is qualified to question that,or who has competed in more finals?.
