unless they scrap the provincial system....... you wont get a proper system.
anyone remember the old national leagues in the 80s ...... a great competition. that format would be ideal for the championship

Back in the 1980's the league started in October, had shag all of the regulars playing at that stage, then you had a long break in the middle and in Feb a few of the regulars drifted back in with big bellies. Not the type of championship I would aspire to. No one gave a damn about the league then.
At least now it starts early in the year and runs in to the championship

radio reports say Pat has a full panel to pick from which is good news. It also means that he will have plenty of selection headaches and his team will show what way he's thinking. I wouldn't be overly worried if Kerry do not perform well on Sunday. We don't have a history of starting the summer in flying form and very often struggle against the likes of Waterford, Tip etc.

In that format back then, any team could aspire to winning the whole thing.........In 1985 Laois came from nowhere to win it........ one or two quarter final places were for teams who had won the lower divisions. Every team played about 8 matches. any by the way........ there would be no leagues........ just the above combination of league and then knockout championship. I can do drawings for you rashers if you cant follow it

Kerry boss Pat O'Shea has named his starting fifteen to face Waterford in their Munster semi-final clash at Dungarvan on Sunday.
Minor injury concerns Killian Young and Kieran Donaghy came through training and are named in the starting line-up.
Donaghy is joined in the forward line by Colm Cooper and Mike Frank Russell.
Tommy Griffin came through a club game for Dingle unscathed and is handed a place on the bench.
Waterford boss John Kiely has named the same XV that beat Clare in the previous round.
Kerry: D Murphy, P Reidy, T O'Sullivan, M Ó Sé, T Ó Sé, A O'Mahony, K Young, D Ó Sé, M Quirke, D O'Sullivan, E Brosnan, P Galvin, C Cooper, K Donaghy, M Russell.

Strong team. Big chance for Young and Reidy to step up. Expect Reidy to move to the left corner.
I guess Declan must be showing more sharpness than Sean O'Sullivan. The same with Quirke over Scanlon at midfield. I am assuming Griffin's injury came against him there.
Sheehan, Quill and Sean Sullivan and Darren will surely be chomping at the bit to get on.

Who's the captain for Sunday, Declan or Killian?

i presume Mike Frank will take all frees from distance and the 50's. Interesting to see Killian young on the wing. Thought he would have a better chance for corner back.

As expected no place on team for bryan sheehan and i think he'll be down the peckin order when it comes to people coming on,sean o sull and Quill surely ahead of him. i wonder how Declan will do on the wing?Hope it suits him, think that could be our most lethal half forward line.Mfr will take the frees, would prefer to have a new captain but dont fancy bringing up the issue gain!!

team is ok. Quirke will have to do an awful lot to convince me I'm afraid. I also have my doubts about Reidy's strength in the corner. Forwards look formidable. Hope Declan does well.

It will be interesting to see how Quirke gets on against the big Waterford midfield. I susspect that was a factor in his selection. Quill should have been started based on his impressive league.
Kerry by at leasst 8 points on Sunday.

tommy is still injured and has played very little in recent weeks Very little being three co. championship games in 3 weeks!! I think this is the game to give Quirke his chance however,if he fails to deliver then i dont think we'll be seein much of him during the summer but if he brings his club form to the team could be a vital addition,it'll be very interesting to see how he does.

forget the captaincy lads, its not relevant this year.
strong looking team,i suspect they moved marc over to balance the two flanks of defence, you couldnt have two rookies down the same flank in their debut year.
good luck to pat and the lads on sunday,it should be a comfortable victory for kerry.

Id say this is Quirks 1 chance to impress. He played exceptionally well in the league match against Dublin so maybe he has retained his form. Hope things wont be blown out of proportion following the result. If we win it doesn't matter if its by 1 point or 10 points.

RE: Quirke. Isn't Tommy carrying an injury? So it was probably down to Scanlon or Quirke to start.
Plus aren't the selectors the ones looking at the players week in and week out.

reckon Quirke will do a job against what is a physical Waterford midfield that hasnt much football in them!

Quirke deserves his chance just as everyone else does. Tommy Griffin has already proved his capabilities so there is no point risking him especially if less than 100% fit. This is a good championship match to test Quirke. Presumebly at some stage we will also see the introduction of Scanlon. Personaly I think if St. Kierans had had a couple of better games than the ones against St. Brendan and F Rangers then he would have started. However no harm to give Quirke a chance.
On another note I think that K Young is an outstanding player and will prove very capable. Himself and P Reidy are still young and realistically the future stalwards of the Kerry backline. Great to see young bucks been given a chance. Also D Doyle is listed as a sub on the main site as being Churchill, is that wrong, or did he indeed get his transfer

Here is my score prediction, laugh away…..but I still think it will be a high score as this Kerry team, under a new managment, will put down a marker to all. I feel sorry for Waterford, we’re going to hammer them>
Kerry 6-20 Waterford 0-5

Its very hard to predict a score for games like these.there could be a score like bigbrother has predicted or we could see a game where kerry win by just 4 or 5 point, either way one thing that is for sure is that we will win. Sure we might as well have a guess and see who's closest come Sunday evening.Think there are goals in us as we showed in our last 4 games last year.
Kerry 5-14. waterford 0-7

Quirke needs to play in this game more than Tommy Griffin does. He needs to get a taste of the championship even though it's early days yet.
