Don't forget the camogie finals are on this weekend too. Might be no harm to watch them to see how it's shaping up.

Darren will start, discounting unforeseen circumstances, you can be pretty certain of that. So can people please leave the debate about the captaincy till after the final. I know people were questioning how quite the forum was yesterday, but jeesh!
By the way, I'd go for the Killkennny option!!

I'm sorry folk but this Kerry team dont lose back to back all irelands. For me its kerrry by 3 to 4 points. Dec Sull to score the 1st goal. Gooch to take Lynch to the cleaners, The bold Dara to go out in style and Paul Galvin to win Man Of the Match.

I am Cork a bit with work and have been there over the last few days.
There is a lot of confidence there and when you dig a bit the confidence is such that they are not just looking to beat us but beat us well. A lot of this confidence is based on what our games in June.
They reckon Lynch has Gooch's number and we have no answer to Canty and Pearce O'Neill and their overall pace.
I think thats the right way to have it!! I think this confidence will lead to over confidence on their behalf.
Meanwhile all is quiet in the Kingdom.

The more I think of the game Sunday week the better case I end up making for a Kerry win.
If were to look at which team has improved the most since the teams played in the replay down in cork you'd have to say Kerry have come on far more than cork.
Murphy is flying all year. Marc has regained fitness and is looking himself again. Tom Sullivan has been a sensation since his move back to corner back. Tommy looks much more comfortable at FB but I would be a little afraid of Colm O'Neill. Killian again is back to full fitness and looking a lot better than he did in June. Mike Mac- Don’t need to say anything there really - let’s see how pearse likes it when he's running back in the opposite direction. Tomas - Flying for again - 9 possessions won from kick outs against Meath. Dara - 10 times fitter than he was in June and will relish the challenge of the Auld enemy Scanlon - My mom against Meath and possibly Dublin getting through Trojan work. Galvin - Outstanding season getting better with every game. Good luck noel you'll need it!!! Declan - Stormer against the dub’s conditions didn’t suit against Meath but again in much better form than June. Tadgh - He'll run through hill 16 in 10 days time to get that medal. Gooch - again much sharper now that were at the business end of the season. Darren - I think he has now nailed down a starting berth and looks in much better form. Tommy - Proved his point against Meath and will relish the chance of winning his first all Ireland medal.
I said months ago that jack O’Connor must have been training towards being in croke park in September due to the injury problems we had coming into the championship and that looks to be the case although I’m sure even he will agree he didn’t expect such a tough time in qualifiers.
The other point I would make is when was the last time a cork team knocked Kerry out of the All Ireland??? Answers on a post card please? Kerry by 5!

The reality is we have to improve on June . They beat us by 8 but it could have been more. Cork have improved as well though. Colm O Neill is a big addition. The 2 wing forwards(Kerrigan and Kelly )seem to thrive on playing in Croke park. I thought Canty was solid in June but he was outstanding the last day. Also would be fearful of Corks fitness levels. At times their pace is unreal. Plus they have huge stamina . Finals can be funny matches and that gives me hope but am nervous enough as well .

Logically speaking Cork are favourites. Lets look at it:
In June Cork beat us comfortably. Its a bit too easy and possibly lazy to say that 'oh we weren't fit, while Cork were bursting at the seams'. Yes its true we weren't anywhere near fit plus we had many injuries and 'other' problems, but Cork are in a better place too, IMO. Cork then went onto beat Limerick in a struggle, but Limerick are a struggle for most teams. As Sligo, Antrim and Longford proved, a team with average players can put it up to the best if they set their stalls out right. They then walloped a Donegal side that rarely gets walloped and easily defeated the greatest team to come out of Ulster.
Kerry have put in 1 really good performance, against an over hyped Dublin team, 2 terrible performances against Longford and Sligo and 2 average performances against Antrim and Meath.
I repeat; logically speaking Cork are favourites.

I agree that Cork are favourites and the more journalists that reinforce that message the better!
As far as team selection is concerned, I believe the backs and centrefield will be as per the Meath game., The selection dilemma is in the forwards with the starting six against Meath along with Tommy Walsh (who in my opinion will start) and hopefully Kieran fighting for inclusion. My guess is that they may go along the following lines:
10. Paul 11. Tadgh 12. Darren 13. Colm 14. Declan 15. Tommy
But if they go with Kieran from the start, then someone will lose out.......Tadgh or Darren?
So back to the captaincy again which I raised earlier on this thread, and in this regard I agree with MickMack that we should adopt the "Kilkenny model" to deal with the issue

As I understand it, do Kilkenny not have the same 'model ' as ourselves re captaincy ? And Tipp too for that matter.....

Yes, but they have not appointed an "on field captain" if the nominated captain is not on the starting team..

IMHO the reason for Cork's favouritism going into the final is not so much down to them beating us last June, those games won't matter a toss on Sunday week, I believe it is primarily down to the intensity that they now play the game at for the full 70 minutes, the Tyrone match proved that as I didn't think they could sustain it for the duration of the match. This Cork team now have plenty of pace & strength while Conor Counihan has added the extra bit of steel and belief to the whole thing, making them all in all a more than formidable opponent.

This Colm Cooper injury is a big worry. It is rumoured that the injury is a groin strain rather than hip based. Apparently, these are notoriously slow to resolve. I am sure that the free taking does not help this type of injury.
If Colm is unable to play it certainly sets the cat among the pigeons as regards the free taking.

Oh no I hope this is not true. Nothing only rest helps this injury. Anthony Lynch missed 2 matches for Cork and one championship game with his club. Out for 2 months in all.

Better not to start Colm if he isnt right.
He might cope with 30 mins to go when players are tiring.

Has anyone seen how Colm Cooper and Kieran Donaghy are going in training? Are they hitting and getting hit? Can someone please confirm or deny the belief that neither are match fit and are only doing noncontact training. An eye witness account would be great.

Would prefer not to hear via the forum, not being paranoid but what they don't know, won't hurt us.

Lads training has been behind close doors all wk so what ever u hear wont be true - im sure jack & the boys will pick the best 15 based on what they see at training & advise from d medical people......
The more I think abt the closer the time is coming to the big day the more i cant decide on how i think thins will worth out.... Im thinking go with the big boys inside and see how cork cope - think they would need to keep there half back line back then - then im thinking if it not broken dont fix it and stick and the fast boys inside....then your looking at the match ups in the back and who would u put tommy griffin on as there forwards wouldnt be suited to him - then there is there half forward line - kelly was my mom from the tyrone game - will tomas have the legs for him.....and mike mac on o'neill........not to mention our half forward line - the battle of galvin and o'leary again.....not to mention the central back i lar na pairc.....and the options of the bench........
