Just wondering if anyone knows why this forum was shut down so long.
Also..... if it needs to be shut down again it might be a good idea if we were given some idea of when it is likely to reopen rather than being given the MAINTENANCE MODE ENABLED message.
So much has happened in the intervening period ........ Jack and the team are gone, Mike McCarthy and Seamus are gone. Paidis secong coming..... Aussie Rules............. where do we start?

Basically it was on the front page of the kerry.gaa.ie website that the site would not be updated during October and that the forum would be disabled. If you have this page bookmarked you would have missed that message.

wasnt very good of admin to take it down looks like he was off on holiday or something to that affect and took it down. we deserve better to be honest, especially only less than 2 weeks after sam and so much going on, jack leaving, aussie rules, local and county championships etc.

a bit like seeing a long lost reli walking up the winding path to the front door after vanishing without trace for a long period of time lost trying to find himself in the valley.

Unfortunately, the forum and website will remain in disabled mode indefinitely. We had hoped to bring it back after the October downtime, but this is not now possible. We are looking at getting more resources for the running of the site - for any comments or questions please mail or send an IM to ADMIN. For latest fixtures and results from the county, visit Aertel online at: www.rte.ie/aertel/aertelplus/p573.htm

Greetings from the Betty Ford clinic, where I have resided since late September due to chronic withdrawl symptoms from the Kerry GAA forum.
The 34 day course (a day for every All Ireland won) was extended due to a relapse when I met friends from Kerry in New York en route home from the clinic in California. Basically I unloaded all my Kerry GAA thoughts in one fine session around 60th street in an Irish bar and had to re-enter therapy the next morning when I logged on on November 2nd and found the site still down.
I must pay credit to the staff at the Betty Ford Clinic, the rehab programme was second to none.
To give you a bit of background, the programme was called "34 Steps to Regaining Lost Prestiage" (Gene McKenna's family agreed to the use of the name).
Each day was pretty much the same:
8.15am - Breakfast of full All Ireland final fry, including the two extra chunks of black pudding.
9.00am - A brief reading of GAA headlines in The Irish Times. This is to ensure that rehabilition into society is not too shocking. Was glad I heard about Seamus retiring and Jack leaving before hitting New York.
9.30am - How to chat to a Kerry senior footballer and withold the nuggets of information you've been told while still telling your 14 closest football friends why the two lads had a fight in training the previous week.
11.00am - Discussion on the best way to support the Kerry team from various terraces in Munster.
12.30am - Lunch - Hang Sangiches and a flask of tae.
2.00pm - The writings of Gawksie Gorman. The lighter side to Kerry football and it's folklore.
3.30pm - Private time. This is a time of contemplation held on the small terrace, a replica of the old Nally Stand, built overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
4.30pm - History lesson. Reading of paper reports from a previous winning All Ireland final. One final was covered per day.
6.00pm - Evening meal. Bacon and cabbage and gallons of tae.
8.00pm - Full viewing of Kerry Golden Years. Each night. Funnily enough Keith Urban was spotted down the back on more than one occasion. When Nicole came to visit him he brought her along. She was very impressed with John Egan.
Saturdays were spent reading Tom Humphries, Keith Duggan and Martin Breheny and relaxing.
Sundays were spent visiting GAA dugouts of southern California.
But I'm back now and hopefully admin will be able to stick with it, find one or two new hands to help out and continue to run something that was well and truly missed.
Oh, and can Betty F bill Sean Walsh for the $58,545 that I owe her?
Up the Rock.

I would be willing to contribute an annual subscription of say €100 to keep it going. All paid up members could be entered into a draw for 2 tickets to Kerry championship matches as a little incentive.
Who else would be willing to do this. Obviously resourses and time are the problems

A cracking idea.....alternatively, is there one or two people that would be willing to give a few hours a week, one to help edit the forum, one to help edit the site?

Its the editorial aspect that is crucial.
Admin has stated previously that players contact the site from time to time to have offensive stuff removed............ who is going to do that.

i'm all on for the hundred euro subscription, count me in. my computer skills wouldn't be up to speed though for stacks suggestion but i'd be willing to help out.
if the subcription idea took off we could donate any surplus to sponcer the kerry minor team
the logo,The Kerry Forum"would look good on their jerseys in croker on all-ireland final day.

I can understand that the forum may need to close down. :'(Moderating and administering a forum can take up a huge amount of time. However it is shameful if the county board allow the website itself to shut down due to lack of resources. Almost all homes now have PC with internet access and it is usually the web people go to first when looking for information. One of the most sucessful county teams in the Gaa and we cannot keep a simple website updated.

Its the editorial aspect that is crucial. Admin has stated previously that players contact the site from time to time to have offensive stuff removed............ who is going to do that. thats the big problem, the editoral aspect, its proberly a full time to be honest. if we could gather enough subsriptions maybe a full time paid job could established for someone. forming a proper supporters club has huge potential,if all the die hards could be pulled in that go to all kerry games and make a contribution of 100 euro it could be substantial. 1000 or 2000 people by 100 euro = 100,000 to 200,000.euro maybe they could look into selling advertising space on the forum getting more exspensive getting toward all-ireland final time. if people were rewarded with the right to buy an all-ireland ticket for kerrys finals the idea could work. you could have gold member, silver membership etc dependind on the amount contributed to the forum indexed to the right to buy an all-ireland final ticket. it would be a bit like a loyalty scheme rewarding people who go to the games and support the forum with surplus going to sponcer the kerry minor team. if people who claimed tickets through the loyalty scheme were removed from club draws and distribution schemes at the clubs the tickets needed wouldn't impinge on ticket supplies with the genuine people getting them who are attending the games. if say for instance admin dangled the right to buy a ticket for the next time kerry contest a final infront of us through a contribution to the forum it would be intersting to see the out come. with a bit of imagination a job could be created to man the forum with the surplus going to the kerry minors.
