Was listening to john maughan on radio this morning and he was saying that roscommon are a team with an amazing work ethic and that there is not one star in the team. they are 15 equals. Kerry will be hard pushed to win this game

No doubt tough game in prospect. The Kerry team has improved with every game they've played and here's hoping for a minor senior double. A minor All ireland badly needed !!

Statistics can make anything look daunting or easy, depending on your perspective. We too have a seriously good minor team and hopefully, will perform to our capabilities in the final. For me, David Moran was man-of-the-match last day, closely followed by Adrian Greaney at centre-back. Both of these guys have a great work ethic and a lot of skill...but we have good players all over the field and if we get the heads down and work from the off, we'll be a match for anyone.

Ros young guns stun Royals in fairytale success Monday August 28th 2006 ADVERTISEMENT
Roscommon's Donal Shine (right) celebrates with team-mate Colm Garvey after their stunning victory over Meath in the ESB All-Ireland MFC semi-final in Croke Park
Roscommon 1-10
Meath 0-9
All-Ireland MFC
DELIGHT at reaching their first All-Ireland minor football final in 55 years was not just confined to Roscommon's teenage heroes, who pulled off a big shock in Croke Park yesterday.
Manager Fergal O'Donnell, who has patently done a brilliant coaching job with the county's first September finalists since 1980, best summed up their euphoria.
Had the man who captained Connacht to their last provincial senior title in 2001 dared to dream of this?
"An odd time you might be cutting the lawn at home - or maybe sometime in February - you might have that daft notion," he confessed with a grin. "You wonder if it would ever happen - it's just great to be there."
His young charges certainly did everything asked of them and may as well have had 'no fear' tattooed on their chests.
The only thing that separated the sides at half-time (1-3 to 0-3) was a goal - a penalty brilliantly dispatched by Conor Devaney's left-foot to the right bottom corner in the 29th minute after James McKeague was unceremoniously taken down by Meath captain Paddy Brady.
With Fintan Cregg capitalising on a move to half-forward and Paul Garvey also excellent up front, Roscommon actually romped into a six-point lead within 13 minutes of the restart.
But a Meath resurgence, led by Ciarán Lynch's three second-half points, had cut the margin to three once again with just eight minutes remaining.
But Roscommon, at all times, simply refused to buckle, playing with a conviction and massive selfless team ethic that ultimately proved the difference between the sides.
Underdogs
They'll probably be underdogs again the next day against a heavily fancied Kerry, but as O'Donnell said, maybe yesterday's victory will give them some badly needed self-confidence.
The sons of Donie Shine and John O'Gara are involved, but unlike their opponents, they had no big marquee players made famous by previous schools, minor or colleges' success. Captain David Flynn didn't even play for Athlone IT last season in his fresher year.
"Maybe in Roscommon we don't sell ourselves well enough; hopefully after a few of these wins, a few of them will," O'Donnell said, before adding the inevitable managerial warning about keeping their feet on the ground.
Few coaches see a team so obediently carry out their orders, especially at minor level.
People immediately declared Meath disappointing and certainly their marking in the late stages was very loose.
But they were constantly hustled and harried as Roscommon repeatedly proved that - shock horror - there is such a thing as a legal tackle in Gaelic football, with numerous interceptions and timely flicks of the hand.
They haven't conceded a goal yet this summer.
Selfless teamwork is a trademark of their defence and once possession was won, they counter-attacked with great fast direct ball and support play.
In the opening quarter Meath kept the Roscommon defence under a prolonged siege, with the Royals' Cillian Finn, Shane O'Rourke and Alan Nestor very prominent. But they shot four wides in three minutes, whereas Roscommon scored twice from just two attacks, a pattern that was to be repeated. Alan Nestor was Meath's best forward and their failure to find him in the second half was a problem but Roscommon, especially Donie Shine with three wides (0-2 frees), made their own mistakes and were trailing by a point when a great team move, started by Paul Garvey, resulted in the penalty just before half-time.
Shine scored a swaggering point minutes later to make it 1-3 to 0-3, while on the restart the balance swung either way.
In the end, though, when the pressure came in the final 10 minutes it was Roscommon's team-work that was the difference.
Their full-back line was very solid, Peter Domican was excellent at wing-back and midfielder David Keenan and half-forward Conor Devaney gave outstanding, tireless service to all around them, with substitute Keith Waldron also excellent.
Man of the Match: Conor Devaney (Roscommon).
SCORERS - Roscommon: G Devaney 1-0 (pen); D Shine 0-3 (1f); P Garvey, F Cregg 0-2 each; J McKeague, D O'Gara, K Waldron 0-1 each. Meath: C Lynch 0-3; A Nestor 0-2; B Sheridan 0-2 (1f);P Brady and S Keating 0-1 each.
ROSCOMMON - M Miley; P Gleeson, M McLoughlin, S Ormsby; P Domican, D Flynn (Capt), C Garvey; D Keenan, K Higgins; C Devaney, J McKeague, D Shine; P Garvey, F Cregg, D O'Gara. Subs: N Carthy for C Garvey (46 mins), K Waldron for Higgins (50), C Smith for McKeague (60), A O'Hara for P Garvey (62).
MEATH - J Ginnity; G Farrelly, S Sheppard, S Carr; D Donegan, P Brady (Capt), D Dalton; E Reilly, C Finn; G Reilly, S O'Rourke, C Lynch; A Nestor, S Keating, B Sheridan. Subs: S Mallon for Farrelly (42 mins), C Carry for Donegan (42), P Larkin for Reilly (55), C Clarke for Keating (59).
REF - R Hickey (Clare).

You know what....things can't be bad if we've a team in both finals on Sept 17th and we've already wrapped up the Junior title. The league also won by the seniors. Other counties would sell their souls for half that in one year.

If the Kerry lads think they only have to turn up to collect the trophy, then the Rossie Minors will win it. John O'Mahony had tipped Ros earlier in the year to go all the way, they are a good outfit. Kerry need to keep their feet on the ground and not listen to any hype.
They will have a Roscommon man playing in the Senior match too, Andy Moran, the man who sparked the comeback against the Dubs with his Goal. Hes a Rossie but plays his footy in Mayo.

Well both teams have played Mayo this year and both won on tight enough scorelines. Judging by this the teams are evenly matched. I very much doubt the Kerry lads will be thinking they just have to show up.

Minors could go anyway on any given day. Its strange to see tall roscommon players kicking points at ease. Im used of the roscommon musclebound seniors hoofing huge balls at the posts and hitting the corner flag!

I know that the last game the Kerry Minors played in Croke Park they were slightly nervous as it was the first time there for them. How much do you think that this little bit of experience will stand in their favour next time?

Roscommon played tehre too Puckaroo so it won't really mean a lot. What wil be a big help to Kerry is that there should be huge suport there for them, hopefully from the start but certainly by the second half the stadium will have a huge Kerry crowd in there shouting them on.

Donegal got to play the Ulster final in Croke Park and it didn't seem to give them much of an advantage.

Tommy Walsh had huge games prior to that semi. I happen to think this work rate had been good up to that. Over all I think the minor will do fine and feel the can beat Rosscommon

Any one care to guess a team for the final.
Will the subs who came in hold their place?
Will Browne make instead of Russell
What about Doolin and Buckley
I think if there are changes it will most likely be to the forward line.
Hard to believe we are going our first title in 12 years and only second in 18 years.

We lost 90 final to Meath
Did we lose in 98 to Laois or Tyrone We lost in 2004 to Tyrone We have lost a bunch of semi finals as well over the years Funnily of the Senior team that will be expected the final against Mayo only Mike Frank will have a minor medal but all of the team has senior medals so you can't read too much into minor sucess!!

Donaghy doesn't have a senior medal does he?
9 of the 98 U21 side won All-Ireland medals with 7 of the likely starters for the All-Ireland having won U21 All-Irelands.

Referee:
Syl Doyle from Wexford takes charge of the minor final for the first time. An established referee within his county where he has officiated at a number of county finals, he is a member of the Ballyhogue club and has won minor and intermediate county titles as a player.
Among the games he refereed this year were Cork v Limerick in the Munster Football Championship and the Munster final replay between Kerry and Cork.

Kerry looked good against a much vaunted Donegal. I thought the half back line was very good in the first half.
Kennedy in the corner played better and better as the game went on.
Curran was very good and if he got more ball would have done more damage.
Agree with Kerrywoman, Walsh tried to overdo things at times. Got the feeling that he was trying for spectacular catch at expense of breaking down to teammate. However he is very strong and would be enormous in full forward - would Curran do a job at midfield or wing forward ?
Moran is a pure footballer with loads of ability , did very well when he came out the middle in second half.
Overall looks like a vedry good minor team but they did fall a sleep a bit in second half.
Saw a bit of Roscommon who looked tough enough , kicked some workmanlike points but do not seem to have the star quality that Kerry have.
Minors are fairly unpredictable but Kerry to win comfortably for me.
Possible weakness in full back who looked a bit off the pace.
