It was always going to be Tyrone, same scéal with Mayo and Dublin, in my opinion the biggest winners yesterday after the half eight draw were Derry, the top four teams have each other, leaving the fifth plus teams smiling, come Sunday evening, the four big guns will be halved.
Back to ourselves, we already know what Tyrone will bring, I have already mentioned in an earlier post, the presence of Paddy Tally in this regard is gold in our locker. Looking at our shape and set up, we have to learn from previous mistakes. Tyrone beat us most recent in 2021, the main reasons for in my opinion were our run and timing was upset by the deferral, Clifford was injured for the extra time, we conceded three soft goals, and we didn’t capitalise when Tyrone were reduced to fourteen men.
I think, our defensive shape now as opposed to two years ago are on a different spectrum, the goals conceded then would not occur now. I recall in 2021 that their entire full back line scored from play, as we allowed teams run at us. Everyone here knows that our players cannot run into traffic or retain the ball in close quarters on Saturday, for this reason, I expect Paul Geaney to resume at 15 with Brosnan falling to the bench, Adrain will also retain his place, his work rate and physicality cannot be understated. This year, every game he has started we have won in league and championship, any league game when was unavailable for we lost… that is no coincidence.
Tyrone earmarked both Cliffords and Seanie in 2021 and went toe to toe. Looking at the Louth game, Seanie was inside more and rotated with Paudie, we have to keep them guessing in this regard. We need a serious shift from the Na Gaeil duo, Diarmuid had one of his best games in Portloaise and regardless of the opposition that day it has to be confidence building and he really needs to push on, Jack I have huge time for and he is the ideal foil for Diarmuid, he came in for serious slack after 2021 and he is being hand the chance of retribution on a plate… grab it… Behind them, Gavin white will resume, the question is at who’s expense.
Two tormentors in Conor McKenna and Cathal McShane didn’t feature of late… Tyrone exposed Mike Breen in 2021, I think he has learned a lot since then, Murphy will give you the honest hour, but size could be exposed. The placing of Murphy at corner back confused me vs Louth, but in hindsight, was Jack and co looking at options, could Jack see Murphy and not Tom Sullivan as his corner man to mark Canavan?
Obviously, White will resume, I think Jack was looking at Murphy as an inside option so, for me although, I don’t agree, I think Breen may fall to the bench. I also think the bench cover for midfield for this game is inadequate, Barry Ban won’t have the legs for the open space of Croker or be able to compete with Kennedy or Kilpatrick… I’m struggling for options here unless he introduces a runner in the engine room.
Two changes for me with White and Geaney resuming, I wouldn't be surprised either if Brion O’Beagleoich started - ideally we need both defenders back.

This thread could be a hard slog for the next month with people denigrating our team and glorifying the opposition in the misguided belief that that is the how to show respect to the opposition. What is called for is a bit of self-respect and dignity, and appreciation our players who, unpaid, have invested their youth and put their lives on hold to give us days like those we heard our forefathers talk about about with smiles on their faces. As one poster has pointed out Tyrone were knocked out in Ulster by Monaghan at quarter final stage and drew with Westmeath, with Westmeath missing a free in the last seconds which if converted would have eliminated Tyrone altogether. So, I am giving a vote of confidence to our team who dragged us through the league with tired muscles and sore bones all with the intension of making us proud in the Summer. Summer is here now. That's a nice post, I think many of us just are very wary of Tyrone. They have been very flakey this year but crucially they appear to have found some form and will find more against us. Tyrones drawbacks are they have a weak bench with that in mind don't be surprised to see Burns start ahead of R Canavan so they have a impact sub. The other drawback back is they only have 5 days to prepare as opposed weeks like in 21. I'd love for Kerry to mirror Tyrone on Sat like we did Donegal in 14. Sit deep and see if they can break us down and then break at speed into Seanie and David. If OBeaghlaoich is fit then he replaces Murphy for me. We need runners from deep and him and white would cause Tyrone massive headaches. We need experience off the bench so Murphy and OBrien should offer that in the 2nd half. I don't see Mike Breen playing, I thought he was caught for pace against Louth and Tyrone targeted him in 21. I also do t see R Murphy coming in as he will get turned over far to easily by Tyrone. Brosnan is the impact forward sub but has to be clever and not take too much out of the ball. If we can break even in midfield we have have a good chance but Morgan will target us with long kickouts so we need to be alive to that. Just a few random thoughts.

You're completely reading what I said wrong. Where did I say everyone was against Kerry ? I'm simply pointing my view on GAA Go which is a widely held view. By the way your very welcome to the forum new views and opinions are great. RoyalKerry, this clown has been plaguing the forum since Saturday with multiple troll accounts, some of them banned already. I wouldn't bother engaging. As for GAAGO, the reality is that it will be a thing for as long, and only for as long, as people subscribe to it. If people were prepared to boycott it, then it wouldn't be long disappearing. Obviously that would mean missing games for a bit for those who can't travel and that's the sacrifice. The alternative is that we're stuck with GAAGO and Kerry supporters will be among the ones to suffer most.

I just really hope we can do it next Saturday. If we do get through them, my fear is, it'll be a meat grinder, therefore, could take a lot out of us going forward to a semi-final, energy, injuries, suspensions etc, So we really need to be street smart here. Jack needs to have a plan B and even a plan c, like what should be the case in life in general with things. Learning from the past, we must a have a counter offensive, let us dictate the terms of the play from the get go. Enforce ourselves onto them, like in previous loses to them, they have enforced their terms on us, that's why they won. Out Tyrone, Tyrone. It can be done, has been done many times before by other counties. But it is Tyrone, so we should know what they bring to the table at this stage, very good ability of football acumen, allied with tenacious defending, flank running, in your face aggression and sledging, swarm tackling etc, Let's just hope the game is a great game, the result goes our way, everybody has a great day, travels up and down home safely on those now very dangerous roads.

Can anyone explain why the tickets available on Ticketmaster at the moment are rubbish ? Stuck in corners or behind the goals ! I doubt if all the better sections are gone already.

Even worse if you have an OAP or juvenile options seriously limited! I kept refreshing and no better options came up. In the end got stuck in the upper tier in the Davin. Reports are that as of last night there's already a 45k crowd for Saturday and expectation now is both Saturday and Sunday will be sell outs or as good as. The rubbish tickets are always put on general sale first, I'd chance waiting till Thursday or Friday and checking again as surely the upper Hogan/Cusack will be made available then.

As I alluded to in a post yesterday, I'd would have been very apprehensive about this game if it had been the next one up after say the performance in PUC/Killarney. However after being in Portlaoise two weeks ago, it felt that day as if the 'real' Kerry had shown up and we had finally shown what was up our sleeves for the summer. Leaving aside the limitations of Louth on the day, we were pretty awesome and I got a sense that this was a Kerry team that was timing to peak just when they needed to. I'm still convinced the plan all year has been to conserve energy and just do enough until it really matters, hence our indifferent League, how good we looked for the Munster final and how good our performance was the last day. Saying all that I don't think Kerry went out to throw the Mayo game or anything but, as I said in the aftermath, I sure the funeral etc and everything that went on around it in the fortnight leading up to that match must have upset preparations in a significant way. Tyrone/Kerry games are almost always close but I'm optimistic at this stage we will be alright if we play to our potential. We have plenty of motivation anyway to be laser like focussed on the task in hand. Of course having been on holidays abroad the weekend of the 2012 encounter, I'd love to be there in the flesh for a right Tyrone tanking but I'll take a one point win at the death anyday!!

On the plus side for us versus the 2021 game - Our defence is better and we're unlikely to concede 3 goals again. Admittedly our defence isn't as good as last year. - Paudie C was man marked in the 21 game probably for the first time. He & the team should be better able to handle that now. - No chance of complacency and being caught on the hop. - Influence of Paddy Tally against his native county. - No Conor McKenna for Tyrone and McShane seems to have dropped down the pecking order.
On the negative side for us versus 2021 - David scored 8pts (I think) that day. Can he do so again or will Tyrone put an extra defender on him to try to reduce his influence. if that happens can others step up to the mark. - The 2 Canavans. Was Darragh there in 2021. Even if he was his influence is much greater now. - Reduced midfield options with David Moran retired and others injured against a very strong Tyrone midfield. - SoS hasn't been in as good from this year as he was in 21 but he may be peaking at the right time.
Its likely to be close again with goals (and who gets them) probably the deciding factor.

Thus far this year Jack clearly indicated his only priority in the League was to retain Division 1 status . Make up of our Group in Championship at worst meant a second place finish and home tie in Killarney. Maybe close run Cork gave us suggested that they could give a complacent Mayo plenty of it so just in case they did Jack demanded and got a huge score against Louth and suddenly pieces began to fall into place . Performance has improved and certain players beginning to find form. Far fetched ? Maybe but there is now light where not too many weeks ago it was doom and gloom . And we can now look forward to Jack’s plan for the weekend.
Discipline is an absolute necessity as Tyrone reckon they have our number . They have plenty of wind up merchants who are graduates in the ‘ dark arts ‘ and as Horsebox in a previous post alluded to will be EARMARKING our players. No doubt the Clifford brothers and Sean O Shea will be targeted early and often and frustrating as it will be focus on their job is their responsibility . We must not be diverted from the task in hand and scores on the board is the way to answer their gamesmanship antics . We are a far better team than Tyrone and should not allow ourselves to be dragged down to their level and we have not regressed in 12 months . Whilst revenge should not be the motivation the players should remember the contemptuous way Kerry were treated in ‘ 21 and the total lack of respect shown nothwithstanding our cooperation in deferring that match to facilitate their ‘ sick ‘ players . And it’s suggested that Kerry are the ‘ cute hoors ‘ !
We should be well used to all their unsporting behaviour at this stage and breaking our concentration is their aim . But I have no doubt our Management will have drilled this advice to the players who have experienced it themselves . And a final plea - do not take the ball into Tyrone traffic . Nothing is as dispiriting as losing the ball in such a turnover .
Safe travel and return to all.

The majority of Monaghan and Armagh fans will be cheering on Kerry. Kerry are no longer the evil enemy for all Ulster. Was Kerry ever the evil enemy for all Ulster? Only from about 1884 Knowing Ulster and having relations and friends up in that great province, there has always been a grá in the past, that's dissipating now though, for all things Kerry, Kerry football in particular, while there is a very visceral rivalry between us and Tyrone dating back to 2003, before this particularly in the 1980’s, they all, including Tyrone, looked up to us back in the day of the Golden Year's teams in particular. Derry especially, Antrim and Armagh too. I've been reliably informed by many up there, that it's also our historical Republican/ nationalist resistance to British rule during the War of Independence, Black & Tans etc, sending volunteers to The North et, to solidarity during The Troubles, Civil Rights etc, they always state this and have never forgotten. So there's a social history fibre connection which fosters this too. In 1993, I supported Derry's All-Ireland win v Cork. I myself love to see Ulster hurling doing well. Most northern folk love coming on their holidays to Kerry down through the years.

Looking at the weather forecast for Saturday it’s 21 degrees and windy. Having watched the game in Salthill Sunday it could make a lottery of long range kicking which would certainly not suit us especially with DC kicking over the blanket as an option. I hope that forecast is wrong

The Atlantic gale blowing through an open Salthill is a lot different to the breeze in a 3/4 closed Croker.

I think this is the perfect game for Kerry. We got a major humbling in 2021 from Tyrone after walking through them during the league earlier that season scoring 6 goals. Tyrone showed us how to score goals in Croker that semi final and it cost Peter Keane his job, meant the whole approach from Kerry had to be different. Kerry were known as the soft touch and nice players but no spine to them.
Tyrone have also beaten us in the 2 league fixtures since then also. They are the one team from the real top table that Kerry have failed against in recent years. The next step for Kerry is to swat aside this Tyrone side a prove our doubters wrong. If there's one thing for sure Kerry won't lack motivation anyways against Tyrone, they'll remember how much it hurt in 2022 and it would hurt more in 2023 with us being champions.
It will be a battle no matter how the game goes. A battle I am hugely looking forward to.

Wouldn't be the first time Kerry "got well" in a quarter-final...remember 2009?
And then got Cork in the Final?

Iirc there was a swirling breeze around the Davin end in the 2019 semi that skewed shots for us in the 1st half and likewise for Tyrone in the second half.
