An enjoyable outing in Portlaoise today. It was refreshing to see Kerry take a no nonsense approach to the game today. Game was done inside 15 minutes. I was on the 21 yard line and had the pleasure of watching the movement and ingenuity of the Kerry forwards. When they’re humming they’re a joy to watch. Seanie Shea was brilliant today in the inside line. His selfless running and physical presence was just one thing but his skill set is unreal, his handling of the ball, I thought, was second to none. Louth Threatened a few times early in the first half but with Jason Foley stitching up Sam Mulroy, their challenge was very weak. Mulroy then threw himself on the ground pretending he was hit in the face by Paul Murphy, in fairness the ref told him to get up. After that, his frustration grew by trying to pick a fight with Seanie Shea, wrong man, wrong day. Mulroy was called ashore after minutes today, not before time. What can I say about the Clifford brothers, superb footballers and brave a lions. Paudie went in for a challenge for a 20/80 ball in front of us and my God he took an awful hit, we got possession from the ensuing piece of scrappy play and he just got up and got on with it. Midfield was better but would someone please have a word with Jack Barry about the restarts. He always tries to intimidate and wrestle his immediate opponent, makes a hames of it and we lose the throw in. Surely Kerry need to look at how to make this better and more effective. A case for Tony Brosnan after today. Yes, I agree with the Pope that he tends to take too much out of it, at times. However, he’s probably just trying too hard. He is such a clever player and his movement off the ball is excellent. Today’s game will have done his confidence the world of good as he was involved in nearly everything good that Kerry did. He took a pass from Dara Moynihan, also excellent today, found 6 inches of space and pinged it over the bar. I believe he has more to offer Kerry than Paul. Mike Breen had a great tussle with Conor Grimes and was really up for the fight. For me Jason Foley was outstanding again today. His speed and strength is a huge asset to Kerry. Likewise, Diarmuid O’ Connor who kicked 3/4 rakers today. I floated out of O’ Moore park this afternoon with thoughts of a back to back all Ireland back in my mind again. Thanks Cork!

On an aside! David Clifford was taken off with 20 minutes to go after a sublime display and took his seat in the stand with the Kerry subs. Crowds of kids started to gather in front of the stand waiting for game to end to try get to David. Many of these kids had Louth jerseys on them. The game still had a long way to go and the Gardai went up to escort David to the dressing room. He seemed like he wanted to stay but went with the Gardai. I have never in my life seen that with a gaa player. He is probably the biggest superstar in the gaa ever and the one real star since Joe Canning. Maybe Kerry management made the call but it was another crazy moment in a most enjoyable day. David is a young man who has only very recently lost his mother. I think that may be a part of the decision to escort him to the dressing room. He was mobbed again trying to get onto the team bus afterwards but he did oblige some of the kids both from Kerry & Louth.

Is there any video of Clifford's monster points today? Paraphrasing Ambrose, one of them was 6 miles out and clipped a satellite before dropping over the black spot.

The two he scored in a row towards the tail end of the first half were just awesome. You kinda need to pinch yourself sometimes watching him, he's like David Bowie in the Man Who Fell to Earth Not to be outdone young Diarmaid put over he's own monster around the same time. I have to say the kick passing today, particularly from distance was awe inspiring. Like the accuracy from 20, 30, 40 yards to ping it into the hands or to make the bounce for the lads to run into. Just brilliant, brilliant football. We can discuss Louth's limitations BUT I'll say it till the day I die, a Kerry team flying with the sun at their backs - its the finest sight in life!

I remember being a child and running up to Kerry players and they seemed like Gods. He's basically like Micheal Jordan or Tiger Woods now where he transcends the sport. He's one of the most high profile athletes in Ireland now definitely. He doesn't seem to do much sponsorship. It'd be a nice earner for him and he deserves every penny.

Sunday sport did say Galway were through to quarter final. Rté commentator and Cora Staunton said it as did Des Cahill. I was in the car with my sons saying sure it's only Galway and Armagh on 4pts and Armagh have the head to head record. It was only when I arrive home I heard Armagh topped group. At least 3 of them in tre spirt did nt know the rules. This doesn't surprise me for RTE Radio in general and Des Cahill in particular. Thats not correct, Cora Staunton corrected Des in the radio coverage.

Paul Flynn says Shane Mcguigan the best forward in the country and argueably the best forward in the country (I don't think Paul like giving Kerry too much kudos). Fair play to Peter Canavan who picked him up on it asking is he trying to wind up Clifford saying he s the second best. Enjoyed that from Canavan. It really seems to stick in the craw of some Dubs giving Clifford his due.

Anyone who says David Clifford isn’t the best footballer in the country I don’t care if they try to dress it up by saying ‘on form’ hasn’t a clue about football. He’s on a different level to everyone else.

Tasty affairs all of them and really hard to call too. In terms of form you would say Galway should have enough to squeeze past Mayo but after that the other three are anyone's games!!

I know in the past people like Mickmack were great for throwing up videos of games even when they were not broadcast. Considering this wasn't on GAAGO or RTE would anyone have access to a full tape of it that they could put up here? Be a shame if the performance of David and Sean yesterday was lost.

A really enjoyable day yesterday,
Heads a bit sore but you have to enjoy those moments regardless of the opposition.
A few more observations,
Not sure I like Shane Ryan coming out the field for opposition kickouts.
Paul Murphy got caught 1.1 in the FB line in the 2nd half and was left isolated. To his credit he done ok.
Tony Brosnan has a habit of taking too much out of the ball and turning into trouble.
Only small things in an overall brilliant performance.

He could do very little, if any, work in the gym; no contact in drills/conditioned games - he was ruled out by Jack at the same time as Stefan so injury must have been serious enough. I believe that Greg Horan, Jack O’Shea, Pa Warren, Gavin Crowley & Dan O’Donoghue are all gone from the panel. If all these lads have left the panel, who has replaced them? Of the 5 lads named above as having left the panel, at least 2 were with the team yesterday.

Nothing gives me more fear than our goalie coming out. Shane is a fine footballer and very comfortable on the ball but it struck fear into my heart yesterday listening to R Kerry describing it, and that was during a game where Kerry were comfortable. Maybe in a 15 vs 14 situation but even then I’d prefer him to stay at home. Shades of Gavin White lobbing Morgan in 2021

Who came into the panel for Geaney and Casey yesterday? Only negative about the venue for me was the PA system. Yep, was in the stand for the first half and couldn't understand a word. Got snippets of them calling the Louth line up but gave up trying to understand the Kerry team as it was named. I actually strolled over to the terrace for the second half and the PA sounded grand on that side so go figure. In general I can't understand the amount of grounds you go to up and down the country where the PA system is inaudible. Surely its something that's been pointed out by patrons numerous times to those in charge of the grounds and the GAA really should insist that any designated inter-county ground has a properly functioning PA. You pay a lot of money to go to games the least you should expect is to be able to hear what subs are coming on/off. But leaving that aside what would happen if there was an emergence and a stand needed to be evacuated because of a fire or something. Can't figure how its not under some Health and Safety guidelines!

Took the hop to O ‘Moore Park yesterday and to be fair the majority of posts above capture the occasion and play, Inside the white lines this was a cold and clinical performance, to win any game you want nine or ten of your lads beating their direct opponent, yesterday, from the off every Kerry player beat his direct opponent. The six backs were tight, cohesive, and more in tune, this was audibly evident with calls and cover and very little fouling. Kerry were hunting in twos and threes and then the ball was grabbed, the other two turned and made a B line forward, the transition from defence to attack was swift. We have been crying out for certain players to regain form and some were condoning our play against Cork… yesterday proved that Cork are coming and are not a bad side, In particular Morley, Diarmuid and Seanie.. these three had stormers yesterday. We are all talking about Clifford and those two majestic points, I was in line with both on the forty, stand side, there was an initial gasp to the audacity of trying the kick that swiftly turned to a different tone of gasp with the flag was raised. I got the shivers when he was withdrawn and afforded a standing ovation in the 50th minute, A Louth father with his two sons, told me he came down just to see DC and let his kids witness in person. I also think the right call was made by the gardaí in escorting him off, that is the status and high regard he is held in. Back to the play, apart from the monster scores by DC, Diarmuid kicked three class points from play yesterday, the two Louth midfields were physically imposing lads but in fairness to Diarmuid, Jack and our aggressive press, we held sway at midfield. Seanie too was immense inside and I think this is the ploy hereafter with the rest going deep. Seanie too his scores well but it the first score after HT that stood out for me, quick long ball in , high, Seanie inside outnumbered 3/1… he still won his mark and raised the flag… that commodity for us is invaluable.
Another point is Louth as expected flooded their defence and early doors, they had XV behind the ball, we kicked points from distance yesterday, Seanie, DC, Paudie Diarmuid all kicked from outside the zone, when that is in your locker, it is very hard to defend against. As for our neighbours, it was funny, at a game so one sided with a huge cheer goes up in the 73rd minutes and a cry of “up the rebels” and the place erupting with laughter… the consensus was typical Cork… and typical Mayo.. 😊
Come Saturday evening, one major player will be gone, a big gun clash in Salthill will have a casualty… the contenders are lessoning, two in a row looked a lot more probable than it did departing PúC few weeks back.
Glad too to hear Jack confirming White only had a calf strain, and should be ok for the quarter final, he also confirmed that Paul had a tight hamstring, could have played but they decided to not risk.. seeing Paul’s form in PúC and Brosnan yesterday, I have the Dingle man slightly ahead of the Killarney man, three of our first four points against Cork were from Geaney assists, that isn’t ion Bresnan’s locker yet.

Hard to know what to make of this championship. For the first time in my life I was cheering “Up Da Rebels” 🤫
You couldnt ask much more from the lads today. Sublime scoring and great to see the blanket torn up. What is there left to say about David Clifford, never seen the likes of him. Diarmaid o’connor was very encouraging today and Seanie looks like he is hitting good form. I still think our defence could do with being sharper, Louth did have some good chances. Something to work on.
In a weird way, would we have been better off having one more test next week before having a bigger test in Croker?

Its very annoying how many of the ex-Dubs are now being given high profile media platforms and equally how woeful and still wearing the jersey they all are.
Flynn only there because he is GPA man with all his Daddy's connections to boot - made a fool of himself on Second Captains last year about Seanie in the Dublin match only for Oisin McConville to call him out and thrown him back in his sky blue box.
Andrews on the GAA pod just awful to listen to, nothing but another cheerleader.
The worst is people like Filthy and Johnny Copper being well paid by the two biggest daily papers to write weekly columns. To think of all the great, articulate, sporting players that could get a nice gig like that and to give it instead to a man who played like McMahon did. The embodiment of everything that would turn you off modern day football.

To be fair I think Andrews is good and is honest. You can't blame him for having a bias towards his own county. Always remember Tim Moynihan on radio Kerry saying Paddy Andrews is in a state of flux straight after Seanies free... brilliant..

I expected that Louth would play defensively and that Kerry would shoot from distance to get enough points to get the required win but I did not expect that explosive performance we got. There was very small mathematical chance that Kerry could have been knocked out yesterday and Jack clearly wanted to make 100% sure that did not happen. Performances like this are in Kerry but I thought the quarter final would be the first. Most people don’t seem to realise that when Kerry put in a mediocre performance in the league in February it is because they are doing the homework during the week for these performances in the summer.
Like Hermit I would like to see the full game on video. I am Kerry’s most positive fan but from the few minutes shown on TSG there are a few things that can be improved on. Even Ferraris need to be serviced.
David is some footballer. People always want to ask a Kerry supporter if David is the best of all time. Last year I said to people that in my opinion at that stage he was the best 23-year-old player that ever played Gaelic Football. This year he is the best 24-year-old. The undisputed claim to the title is very nearly his. The standing ovation when he left the pitch yesterday was very audible on the radio and was a goose bumps moment. Even Ambrose had to pause to catch his breath. I can’t recall any other sports star in Ireland ever getting a Garda escort, early, from a stadium because of the crowd rush his presence might cause after the event. I wonder did any of the Gardai, in the privacy of the dressing room, pull a page from their note book and ask David for an autograph for their own child at home?
