No idea yet where this game will be played.
Louth gave it there all today but Mayo were very average.
2 weeks to hopefully sort out a few issues and get BOB and K Spillane back fit.
I heard Ronan Buckley was injured and that has hampered him.
Ideally I'd like to see Barry Dan start with DOC.
I'd also start OBrien and A Spillane at 10 and 12.

John Fogarty reporting Croke Park is unlikely.
OMoore Park more likely.

John Fogarty reporting Croke Park is unlikely. OMoore Park more likely. I would agree on O’Moore Park - can’t say I am looking forward to it based on Louth’s set up today. From looking at GAA website, game likely to be played on Sat 17th. Interesting that Paddy Tally & Mickey Harte will be in opposing dug outs.

Listened to the BBC GAA Social this week with Tyrones Kevin Hughes. That man suffered some unbelievable tragedies. He reckoned Tally was the best he worked with. Tally was a young man thein 2003. Maybe we should keep the faith.

Watched most of second half today and Mayo were completely disarmed by Louth’s tactics, they didn’t know what to do, couldn’t believe it. In fairness to Aidan OShea he kicked 3 frees, first one was from tight angle, made difference in the end

Tally highly regarded by the Kerry players too and he is not just a defensive coach - has worked with the forwards too.

Quick question, if teams are level on points is top spot decided by head to head of scoring difference? There was a bit of confusion about that in our Kerry GAA whatsapp group this morning.
I.E. can we still top the group if Cork turn over Mayo or are we resigned to being runners up at best no matter what happens the next day out?

Points difference is the deciding factor in all scenarios- head to head doesn’t apply. A Kerry win, and a Cork loss, will see Kerry finish second. A Kerry win, and a Cork win, will see Mayo, Cork and Kerry all on 4pts and the final rank will come down to +/-.

Based on the games in the group thus far, I think it looks like it will be two reasonably close games, with little separating the sides. Obviously, Kerry's scoring difference has placed them in a very precarious position should they lose. It wont be lost on Harte that any win for Louth knocks Kerry out unless Mayo batter Cork.
Anyhow, its 2 weeks prep now. Louth will travel in numbers for a novel encounter.
I honestly think its a great game for Kerry to have trying to break down a resolute and organised defence....
The championship starts in earnest for Kerry on June 17th.

Whatever about the season to date, there are absolutely no excuses from here on in as its exit stage left in Championship 2023 if the tactics, selection, sharpness, performance and stomach for battle are not on the money. Its old school winner takes all stuff now.
It takes a special team to win All Irelands back to back. We definitely have some special players but time will tell if the hunger for more is in the gut....

Very high chance Kerry could get knocked out on Points difference as well unless Cork get hammered by Mayo which I don't see happening as usually with Cork they'll run the top teams closer than expected. Kerry are in a situation where every game from hear on in is knockout. Whether they like it or not.

If Kerry lose to Louth then we’d be better off not going through

Could still finish anywhere from 1st to 4th but would expect Mayo to get at least a draw, in which case a draw or win v Louth would be enough to get us 2nd.
A 1 point win for Louth and a 5 point win for Mayo would see us through in 3rd.
To win the group we'd need Cork to beat Mayo though, ideally by exactly 3 points as it would give them both +3 score difference which combined with a win over Louth by 7 points or more would put us top.

If Kerry lose to Louth then we’d be better off not going through Still wouldn't be the least worthy qualifier! That looks like being whoever of Kildare and Sligo loses by the smaller margin in the last round to go through with 1 point.

Keep it simple, win your own game and let the Mayo and Cork game take care of itself.
Hopefully, we'll get O'Beagleoich back at full tilt and the injury to Adrain Spillane will have cleared.
For me Briőn comes in at number five and we return Tadgh to the too if the D and Spillane retains his place.
I'm 50/50 on O'Brien and Dara, both have their merits just need to decide which one is better starting and which one is better as the impact.

Dublin beat Louth by 18 points so if we can’t beat them by enough to bump us well clear of Cork and Mayo on scoring returns in what is a first absolute vital game in our efforts to hold on to Sam then maybe the prophets of doom are right .
But Jack O Connor is a wily old fox - as his record clearly shows - so still all to play for .

I just can’t get past how sluggish we have been all year comparisons with 09 are way off imo Louth will set up like cork did and frustrate us can’t see us beating them by a lot another close game coming

while i get we have been poor, name any team that hasnt? every single team has had at least one game where theyve been very poor, Mayo have had 2, same as us.
its knock out from now on. hopefully Louths performance against Mayo and the dangers that they now bring, can wake the lads up

But Jack O Connor is a wily old fox - as his record clearly shows - so still all to play for . Dublin drew with Roscommon a team that beat Mayo a team that beat us by 5 points. mental results all summer so far! cork beaten by Clare, who we hammered and then we struggled against Cork. Westmeath on top against Galway until they get a red card. Louth hammered by Dublin then lose by 1 point to Mayo who essentially hammered us. and so on.

Point taken Mick but now the serious stuff starts .
We are Kerry , defending Champions and nothwithstanding our sluggish form to date the match against Louth is our opportunity to lay down a marker . We cannot have gone back so far from last years form . Same personnel same management and agreed a long season last year but can we be written off so soon ?
A good performance - and one is due - against Louth , will reinvigorate the team . Agreed Louth confounded many by running Cork and Mayo so close but so much is on the line now for Kerry that the focus must be on performing against Louth and I believe they will - and emphatically .

Assuming Louth will come with a massed defence, do we think Jack will have any change in formation or strategy to counteract this?

Is there any reason why no time or venue has been fixed yet? The group draw was about a month ago and this is a known fixture since then. Not like it was depending on any other outcomes in the interim. I don't get it.

Not too sure what to think of that venue choice, Thurles would have been more central in my opinion. To be honest I wouldn't expect a major Kerry crowd to travel to Portlaoise. Some 3 hours or more from some parts of Kerry whilst Louth is only an hour and a half away from Portlaoise so I'd expect 80% of the crowd to be from Louth.

Heard on The Big Red Bench podcast from Saturday the interview Jack gave to the press pack in PUC after the game. When asked where he expected venue to be for next day out, he mentioned they were hoping the Louth game would be up around Portlaoise as they'd booked accommodation there.
He doesn't expect Killian to be back for it. BOB has a minor hamstring injury and is back doing a bit of running and has a chance of making it. Also confirmed Adrian got a dead leg in 1st half and it seized up at half time.

1 hour 25 mins for me so I won't complain.
Very hard to know what to expect but I'm hoping the 2 week break is just enough to reinvigorate the lads.
If Kerry cut loose it could kick start them.
