The goals were shambolic defending. If I was Jack I’d be taking a few fellas off at half time, and one or two of them are the All Ireland winning players. Ruairi Murphy was very good in the first quarter and Dara Roche in the second quarter. He must have heard you.

Shane Murphy isn't intercounty standard. Kickouts brutal and overall positioning well off 2022 = 2 goals conceeded in total 2023 = 5 goals in fifty minutes of ball

A humiliation for Kerry and confidence building exercise for Cork who are keeping the main men on while Kerry run the bench. Kerry way off the pace and some fellas just out of their depth at this level.

48 mins gone. Pure rustiness and Cork toying with us. Should have expected it considering the starting 15 named. Shambolic defending for all 5 goals. Thinking of the 2 pints I could have had with that €10 I spent…

I know what you are saying but truly the goalkeeping performance by Murphy was inept. We know Shane Ryan is the Kerry starting goalkeeper but we need to blood a competent number 2 for this level and options are out there. The goal keeper is probably the most important position on the pitch (a legacy of Cluxton) and you can't carry a poor goalkeeping performance at this level, it sucks the life and confidence out of any defence and ultimately team.

Don't want to knock anyone but two 21 yard hop balls as a direct result, another kick out to a man inside the 21... 2nd half short to Breen when he was in a 2v1 situation.. we were lucky to get s free...

Shane Murphy was decent enough when given his chances last year. Cant understand how the defense has been so woeful tonight. Then again look at the attack, one free and two points from play is all they've managed in the first half. Not even a half chance of a goal created.
Don't know if anyone has put up their hand given this display. Brosnan is probably the best on show in a Kerry shirt.

I agree that Ryan is the Kerry no. 1 but I can't see how you can right off Murphy and others say he is not inter county standard based on an absolute hiding in the McGrath cup. Put Shane Ryan in goal tonight and would anything be any different? A very high and well organized press by cork combined with the Kerry midfield being cleaned out means that there were little to no options for Murphy. Regarding the goals, I don't know of any GK who can deal with the over laps that cork had resulting in the most simple of palms into the goal. A comment regarding SMs positioning based on a single camera is very hard to take seriously.

Scrambling for positives - maybe Kerry's late scoring spurt shows that its a case of just not having the match eye in? Hopefully an aberration rather than a sign of what 2023 has in store

The concession of so many soft goals in an error strewn performance by Kerry keeper and defence really sucked all life out of this contest. Cork were impressive with a good structure and very fit for this time of year.
Full time. 5-11 Cork 0-14 Kerry

Fair points but I would imagine that this is a direct result of the Cork press on the kickout. Dublin faultered in the past when an organised press was utilized against them. saying that, I have seen kickouts for Crokes in the past that have been touch and go with regard the 21m line.

I wasn't watching tonight's game so my following comment is completely unrelated to tonight's game.
I felt that Kieran Fitzgibbon was very solid in goals in his starts in 2021 and should have been kept on in the panel in 2022.

Don't know if anyone has put up their hand given this display. Brosnan is probably the best on show in a Kerry shirt. From the starting XV, though Barry Mahoney showed well, all seven of the defensive unit were below par, Corks mid field ruled the roost but to be fair Barry Dan did handle a good bit of posession. Killian showed and Roche had two from play, Brosnan was on ball but too deep for me. Ruairí was involved in a lot of ball but hard to judge. Second half, Burns, Moynihan and Donal Down chipped away but look it's February, a winter of celebration. It's about getting games into lads. We were disappointing very poor, very disappointing that no one put their hands up to stake a claim to a league panel berth. In defence our right side in particular was opened. Learn from it , give players a second chance Sunday with Clare and then try get settled look for league. Poor fair for my tenner.

That was shambolic lads,
Cork looked fit and raring to go and we looked like we were still enjoying the mince pies.
The only positive for Kerry was Tony Brosnan.
It could be a very difficult national league.

Hopefully the result will ground the players if they think that last year will continue without putting the work in.
For the Clare game, play Burns and give him some time between the sticks.

Fitzgibbon was impressive, true, Devon Burns is a serious talent as is Marc Kelliher from Glenflesk.. I'd have these two in my training panel with Shane Ryan

I did nt see game so only going by forum comments and the final score. My comments are solely based on the scoreline and other opinions While reading earlier comments I was very worried the final scoreline might be a total embarrassment and Corks biggest ever win against Kerry. However after looking at final score I'm relieved a little and at least we seemed to finish strong. Cork do have good talent though and are an up and coming team. As Horsebox stated Corks minors were unlucky v us on at least two occasions. Also Cork won an under 20 all ireland too which is a better indicator towards senior level. How did our all ireland winners do like Foley? Can someone comment on how players performed. Some saying Brosnan did OK and Ruari. How did Diarmuid do? Did any of the subs make any impact? To be fair we finished strong because Cork took off players and took the foot off the gas. I'm not saying you said this Mick but anyone saying it's only January need to consider how condensed and short the year is. Tyrone last year are a prime example.

I wouldn’t read anything in to this match. The only regret I have is spending the 10€.
Nobody really showed, Kerry tagged on points at the end more so as a result of the 12 Cork subs.
The non competitive aspect was a pity, this competition means a lot less for Kerry as the Kerry clubs are still in more serious All Ireland matches.

Cork will not win the All-ireland Cork will not win the Munster Championship Cork will not win their Division in the league, and probably won't be promoted. Based on the team they named, their level of fitness and intent, and their approach and application tonight, they want this McGrath Cup, for themselves, as a group, to build something on to take forward.

Diarmuid was very poor, his man kicked three or four from play in first half alone, second half there was a re-gig so don’t know the match ups for second half. Foley had his hands full with Hurley but ball in was unopposed. Like I said, disappointing as when you flip to twelve months ago, the difference is alarming, players , new players were hoping off the ground, fresh on the toes, we were flat footed today, could be a winter block of training only Jack and Co will know. But what we do know is Cork will build on this, you could see the structure today had Kevin Walsh’s stamp all over its was the Sligo/Galway structure with Cork Jerseys ….

On a side note god help me but the commentary was brutal.
