Strong Cork team. Most of those players get on their starting team. Only up front have they really experimented.

A lot of pressure on them to win now since they’re at home with a near full strength side against a second string Kerry outfit.

There will be no harm in a stern test. Even if Cork beat us, and they have selected their strongest team to do just that, we should still be able to win v Clare, and perhaps Clare beat Cork in Cooraclare. Losing to Cork means no final probably, but knowing Jack he will want to win all trophies available. While that is the strongest Cork team they miss believe. If Kerry can be within a few points of them experience should tell. Really looking forward to the game and hoping for a win of course.

Team I'd like to see
Burns
Dan Donoghue Jack O Shea Dylan Casey
Shane Cronin Mike Breen/Cian Gammell Pa Warren
Barry O Sullivan Ronan Buckley
Ruari Murphy Barry Mahony M. Burns
T Brosnan D. Roche D.Geaney
Something like that would still be able to give a good account against a near full strength Cork team

Kerry team to play Cork:
1) Shane Murphy 2) Dylan Casey 3) Jason Foley 4) Jack O' Shea 5) James McCarthy 6) Tadgh Morley (c) 7) Cian Gammel 8) Diarmuid O'Connor 9) Barry O'Sullivan 10) Adrian Spillane 11) Ruairi Murphy 12) Barry Mahony 13) Tony Brosnan 14) Dara Roche 15) Killian Spillane
Subs: 16) Devon Burns 17) Jack Barry 18) Tom Sullivan 19) Micheal Burns 20) Dara Moynihan 21) Stefan Okunbor 22) Mike Breen 23) Dan O'Donogue 24) Pa Warren 25) Greg Horan 26) Donal O'Sullivan 27) Dylan Geaney 28) Ronan Buckley 29) Eddie Horan
Given the fact its considered an 'experimental' line up. Thats as strong a team we could put put almost. Alot of firepower to come off the bench which could come in handy because I think the McGrath Cup is allowed 9 subs if memory serves me right.

Jesus, that's a fairly strong enough XV considering the volume of knocks and club tied players.
Picking a league starting XV from the panel listed isn't as bad as I had envisaged.

It is good team mostly comprised of players that have featured in the league before or in the championship. Big chances for Killian, Darragh and Tony in the full forward line. Almost as good a full forward line as any in the country. Midfield and full back line also surprisingly solid. I would not be surprised if this team would also play in the league.

A good start is half the battle, and I must admit there is a bit of intrigue about this game. Setting down markers for later on and staking claims should all be on show. Kerry started last season showing real intent and meaning business and keeping the boot on the Cork neck would be hugely satisfying. Despite the changes and experimentation there is no unknown names to Kerry followers but who will step up and cease an opportunity? Cork have plenty players and no shortage of talent but over the past decade confidence bottomed out in the senior team. If Cork's biggest issue is really in between the two ears then their management will be desperate for big performance and a winning start on home soil to build momentum this evening. It should be a good contest.

It should be a good contest. I fully agree that we should keep the boot firmly on Cork and all other heirs to our throne, however, we still need a competitive Cork for the betterment of Munster Football and to aid our own progression. I think for the first time in over a decade, most certainly since the departure of Conor Counihan, the Cork County Board have the correct and most learned Coach available in situ. The Castlehaven man lead a very skillful U21 unit to the summit and for years, I was amazed he was passed over. Even though he has inherited the gig by default, he is bringing in serious weight and experience beside him, Cork will be a force and will be dangerous under Cleary. We may have the pick of the golden five winning minor sides, but on at least two of those occasions, we were extremely luck to get past our near neighbours.

I’m expecting a very close game this evening, I don’t think there’s much between the teams on paper. It’s a great chance for Jack O’Shea, James McCarthy, Cian Gammell, Barry O’Sullivan, Ruairi Murphy, Barry Mahony and Darragh Roche to impress and demand league game time. We’ve loads of good options on the bench so we should finish strong. I’d love to see Diarmuid O’Connor put in a dominant performance tonight, he has the capability. I’m surprised Dan O’Donoghue and Ronan Buckley are only on the bench, maybe they’ve had slight knocks or something but hopefully they both see action tonight too.

Very evenly matched teams, but look at that bench with Jack Barry, Okunbor, Tom O’Sullivan, Micheál Burns, Dara Moynihan, Mike Breen, Dan O’Donoghue, Pa Warren, Greg Horan and Ronan Buckley. So much experience and the replacements are certainly as capable as the starters. Jack starts with a good mix of youth and experience and has enough on the bench to change the game if he needs to. Cleary too is wily coach and it will be a battle between two very astute football minds. Jack has so much experience though and will make it absolutely clear to all the players that a good win means league time. A loss will put some of them back in the pecking order. It is only a January but for both managers this will be a must win, a marker for the rest of the year. Jack doesn't do competitions he can't win so he will be definitely wanting to win this.

So the Kerry carnival starts up again for another year. What will 2023 have in store, hopefully more of the same as 2022!! Hard to believe its already a year since I was venturing into an absolutely baltic Austin Stack's Park for the opening fixture of the inter-county season against Limerick. Where do the months go to at all! I'll make do with the €10 stream this time Strong sides named by both counties so this should be a competitive affair. I for one can't wait to see the All Ireland champions began the defence of all four national titles. Hoping my clubman Barry O'Mahoney has a great game and forces his way onto the League panel. For the first time this seasons its An Riocht Abu

Kerry getting a real hosing here and the Cork dander is up. The Kerry defence is all at sea and the goalkeeping effort is substandard for this level to say the least. Big improvement needed. Jack will be learning about a few fellas here good and bad. Darragh Roche is a big positive in a mans game with limited possession and opportunity. Barry Mahony doing well also.
Half Time 3-7 Cork 0-6 Kerry

Shane Murphy isn't intercounty standard. Kickouts brutal and overall positioning well off

The goals were shambolic defending. If I was Jack I’d be taking a few fellas off at half time, and one or two of them are the All Ireland winning players. Ruairi Murphy was very good in the first quarter and Dara Roche in the second quarter.
