I expect Kerry to win Sat night next. The tougher the contest and the longer its in the melting pot, the better most likely for Kerry and their summer ambitions, as we will learn more. When it comes to Cork, Kerry have seen both sides of the coin in recent seasons which will be very informative - if Kerry don't bring the proper focus, intent and application, they know what can happen. There's no excuses really and any malfunction should start with the protagonists looking in the mirror first of all. If we are serious about winning the All Ireland, the drive and performance standard needs to come from within. That wasnt there the last few years when the team picked itself and the guys on the bench made up the numbers. It was a cosy cartel, manifest in coming up short when it truly counted. I couldnt care less who plays for Cork on the night. T he great teams like Limerick in Hurling and Dublins 6 in a row in football focused on themselves and bringing their best performances out consistently. Its where we need to get to and this year its time to * or get off the pot.....[/font]While i agree that Dublins 6 in a row and the current Limerick hurling team consistently deliver they both had the best panel by a distance. Kerry may get to where Limerick are now in the year 2025 or so if they have won a few All Irelands in the meantime. It didnt just happen overnight for either Dublin and Limerick. The first iteration under Pat Gilroy were swotted aside by Kerry in 2009 and Meath put 5 goals past them in 2010 although they regrouped well that year. Joe Brolly described them as the most negative team ever to win the all ireland in 2011 and there was a lot of sentiment in their favour shall we say which helped. In 2012, they were poor enough. 2013 could have gone Kerrys way just as easily and they scraped past Mayo by a point much to the delight of the GAA President after the game when RTE interviewed him...he said the GAA wants Dublin to be winning All Irelands. 2014- they were a shambles So it wasnt till they had 2 all irelands in their back pocket and the 2011 minors came on the scene that Dublin went to another level. Limerick didnt even reach the Munster final in the years 2015 to 2018. They came through the back door in 20018 and beat KK in a QF when the ref definitely gave them the breaks. Cork were 7 up at one stage in the semi final and Quaid brought off an unreal save to keep them in it. They won the game in extra time. They beat Galway by a point in 2018 in the final when Joe Canning had that last free to level it. They won Munster in 2019 but were poor v KK in the semi final which they lost. So really, its since 2020 that Limerick have gone to the next level helped largely by the breakup of the great KK and Tipp teams and Galway have lost Joe Canning also. So Kerry need to scrape their way to an All Ireland win any way they can. After that and with a few medals in their pockets they may aspire to where Limerick hurlers are now and where Dublin footballers probably still are but that is a few years away.

Mick we scrope our way to an all ireland in 2014 but slipped up again afterwards. We hot favourites this year but I'm still not convinced. If we get to a semi v Dublin I'd be very worried indeed and call it a fifty fifty game I expect Kerry to retain the Munster title but the month long wait to the QF isnt ideal and the likes of Tyrone or Armagh or Galway etc could have found a vein of form after winning the 2 qualifiers so the QF could be a very tricky proposition too. The second qualifier on 12th June is ideal preparation for the QF. Anyway take every game as it comes and see how it goes. Isnt it a great distraction from the woes and wars of the world.

Cork have no choice but to go ultra defensive next Saturday. I expect them to play with double sweepers and force Kerry to kick from distance in the hope we don't have our shooting boots on.
With that in mind and if Seanie is fit I would be playing 6 out and out forwards meaning no start for Adrian Spillane.
Thinking back to the Mayo game, I think Seanie was the only one out injured who would make the match day panel for the championship.

Mick, I agree and disagree! In the first instance, I'm talking about the Cork game and we have an infinitely superior panel - analogus if you like to Limerick and Dublin in their pomp. Hence, why I dont care who Cork play or dont play. This group is together a while now, have won leagues and Munsters and so the summit of our ambition is far beyond beating a fired up albeit mediocre Cork side. I agree on the broader front, we dont have the winning nous of Dublin or Tyrone so we will take an All Ireland whatever way we can. We are probably one of 3 or 4 who might be worthy winners but we remain ensconsed in the pack. Much as winning an All Ireland could elevate this group and drive us on to win more, not doing so this year will surely leave mental and sporting scars that won't be easily overcome.

Did Sean do the warm up with the rest He did I'm sure, he was running freely up and down sideline anyway in 2nd half. Meehan has been out for a while I believe. Last thing I will say on this match is I back our lads to win well nothing to do with cork but if our players and management approach this game with the right attitude and application then we shpuld win and win fairly well in PUR ,PUC killarney croke park or anywhere else we have better footballers.

Time for team speculation, prob picks itself. Ryan G Sullivan Foley T Sullivan White, Morley, Beaglaoi Barry, o connor A Spillane O Shea, Moynihan D Clifford, P Clifford, Geaney
Assuming all available. Only concern I’d have, is Cork play with a defensive system, then both the wing forwards would not be the best to break down, if we are winning well, then important to give bench players plenty game time.

Healey Park today showed what can happen in a local derby and it would hardly be the first time the rebels taught us a lesson - Darragh salted 'em nicely during the week, a key ingredient! Absolutely no comparison, Derry have 3 lads, McKaigue, McGuigan and Glass that would walk onto any team in Ireland. Cork don't. Cork are in a poor place and Derry are a coming team. How many had we in 2020 that would 'walk on any team?' You could go conspiracy theorist on this but I previously got shot down for less so I'll keep the peace. But for the record I'd put nothing past Doher and Logan, and fair dues if it works, wouldn't be the first time.

Coming from Waterford direction on Saturday. Would people familiar with cork advise avoiding the tunnel. I was thinking of taking passage ferry, parking in Douglas and walking up to avoid inevitable traffic jam after or is that ott? Any advise welcomed

Any advise welcomed Ott, there wont be a great crowd heading in from the east for a football game! The only thing with the tunnel is the construction there traffic cant be that bad given size of crowd. I'd go in by glanmire road myself and park fairly close to pairc ui chaoimh ironically everyone else will be heading the other way to get on south link.

Any advise welcomed Was in Cork a few Sundays ago, there was no match or concert on, so no extra traffic. There were substantial delays, in my own case about half an hour, due to whatever construction they are doing at the Dunkettle roundabout/tunnel area. I doubt it's got any better since. So your suggestion might be a way to avoid that area completely.

For starters it is a local derby and where you have hot favourites vs outsiders, a lethal combination that defies logic. Yes there is gap and maybe I am a bit more knowledgeable on things Ulster than most, and probably less so on Cork, but 2020 also happened. Ah let's see, we should trash them but that's what Tyrone thought and plenty of talk like that turns a Corkman into something irrational that I'd prefer not to face. Are you really saying the rebels have no chance whatsoever - would you bet your life on it?

I'd say they will meet the 11.000. after all the rubbishing of cork by all and sundry over last few months surely there will be a reaction from the team. Awkward match for Kerry who are under huge pressure this year to bring home Sam. No one wants to be in the backdoor with Tyrone and mayo

We should win with a bit to soare.
But if we didn't, I wouldn't fear the backdoor. Yes there may be a few big fish there but if we were to lose again in a qualifier surely we can accept that then we weren't/aren't good enough.
I think there is too much fear and concern around other teams and other scenarios. I hope the management/team are on the other side of that and have a laser like focus on the things that they can control. They have a process and way of playing that they all are fully invested in. Thats what will win us the All Ireland.
We need to stop the fear and dread and embrace the hunger and ability.

Bring on a QF against Tyrone or Mayo (who still think they're better than us) and a SF against the Dubs and the attitude should be we are the best panel, we're the fittest, the toughest, the hungriest and the most skillful. Line them all up one after the other and we'll eat them. We're letting teams come after us way too much in recent times. Everyone has a gameplan for Kerry, everyone targets Kerry, we just turn up and try to weather storms. I'd love to see us crankily deciding to be the bloody storm for a change.

Maybe Tyrone have decided that the qualifier route is the best route.....who knows with them.

Wouldn't rule it out entirely though the other side of the coin is that a winning team is, well a winning team. Could be that they feel winning Sam is not straight forward for them so they go tactical, it worked last year. As I said before, just because one is paranoid doesn't mean there is no conspiracy at play and that they won last year when in fairness we had better footballers but as a Tyrone buck told me many moons ago, 'no good having class if we have the ball' and you have to admit that at times they get more bang for their buck, they know how to win battles, how to set up, mindset, etc - all teams do it but the Red Hands are sharper in this respect? I wonder how we should respond in how we go about our business? It isn't just about being the better footballers anymore. Wan Joseph Brolly knows a bit about this, maybe more than he knows about purist football skill at times.

Yeah I'm sure Tyrone decided they wanted to lose by 11 points at home against one of their closest neighbours so they can get a handy run through the qualifiers. On the game at hand no Meehan, powter or Maguire for cork by all accounts. You would imagine cork will go with a double sweeper and hope to hit us on the counter if we can get Morley as free man should be adanvatage to us as Tadgh can cut out goal chances. With Meehan and powter out hard to know what their match ups will look like. Hurley (Jason foley) Sherlock (Tom sull maybe) would be 2 interesting ones hard to know until we see what way cork set up but o Rourke and Blake Murphy will need a bit of minding as well. If we can stop goals and limit the scoreable frees ( they have good free takers) its hard to see cork racking up the 18-20 points that will probably be required id expect us to hit 1-15 to 1-18.

We'll see who's wearing a red jersey when the ball is thrown up. Until then, I'll believe nothing. If Maguire is out, we might see Joe Grimes, the Listowel man, in action?

I think the qualifier route is the ideal way to go this year but how do Kerry manage to go that route....i know! Maybe Tyrone have decided that the qualifier route is the best route.....who knows with them. The question around Tyrone is how could they have been so sharp in last 2 league games, and then show up a few weeks later , looking way off the boil, I think they may well have prioritised training, knowing they were well of the level to win an all ireland and if a consequence of training hard was the back door, they may have well decided to take that risk, they are a better team than Derry in my book. Again it’s all conjecture but how does one explain there fall off.
