Having Moran as a sub could be a great asset. We seemed to get a grip once he settled into the middle, Cork tiring probably helped too.

As it common in most inter county matches in both codes, the team with the best panel took over in the final quarter.
Corks subs didnt improve things. Kerry subs did especially Moran.
The Cork sub goalie looked like he never took a kickout before. He plays outfield for his club and college.
Great second half by GW.
Diarmaid had a fine match....between him and SoB for man of the match.
The great long range points i was hoping to see came alright but it was red jerseys that kicked a lot of them.
Tony Brosnan played like a man desperate to make an impression...took shots that werent on.
That performance probably wouldnt win the provincial championship in Ulster, Munster or Connacht.
Plenty for Kerry to work on.
I hope Cork do well in the qualifiers. There was pride in the jersey tonight.

I was told that Cork were not Derry, well for 50 mins there wasn't much difference.
We wouldn't win any of the other 3 provincial finals on that performance.
'When a fluke is not a fluke' comes to mind - either Cork are not near as bad as people thought or we are not near as good as people think.
Unless of course we planned it this way and I don't think that could be the case - you go out to cut the opposition open from the throw-in and we didn't even do that from the second throw-in.
Underwhelming but any day you double score The Rebels is ok, but only ok given they are a Div 4 team.
Foley had their best man and let's hear how the FB worked or not as a unit.

To be fair, any county team that is properly coached can set up a decent level of resistance against any side.
With enough bodies retreating, enough discipline and enough spirit, this resistance can be maintained for long periods. Optimal S&C and depth of talent in the panel can sustsin and embolden such resistance for the majority of a match.
As ever though, scores on the board are what counts when the final whistle is blown, so going forward Cork will need to address the former, the staying power, and the latter, striking the right balance between defence and attack, aka the transition phase. Finally, both keepers for Cork failed the kick out test - the key barometer of possessions in a game.
From a Kerry perspective, there was rustiness in the opening half. Unforced errors, cheap fouls and unnecessary turnovers, 2 for example by Gavin White. Foley and White had really good second halfs. Diarmuid was excellent all through. Stephen was very good in both halves. Bringing Moran, Geaney and Murphy on was very telling - experience, nous and leadership. Finishing with them makes great sense. Tony mixed some good with too much bad but was possibly trying too hard. Seanie finished very strongly, even if it took him a while to get going. Moynihan will play instead of Adrian for me - one great turnover aoart, struggled with the pace of the game - his achilles heel.

It’s a weird one as although we won comfortably, I would still say that we were a bit disappointing. I thought we were too slow in our build up for large chunks of the game and gave up too many frees. We had more lads playing below themselves than playing well. It was great to see Moran come on, such composure and class
I thought a good chunk of our starting forwards were poor but SOS is a joy to watch and it’s great to have him back. Prob only our 2 kenmare lads will be happy out of the 6 starters

A good win as I was worried as always playing Cork in Cork. I actually though Tom Sullivan struggled a little and looked unsure at times. Also thought he had a very average league. Thought Foley played well although a few silly fouls. Gavin White a great 2nd galf. Morley and Ó Beaglaoich did fine although a silly challenge by Morley in 1st half that he was lucky to get away with. Thought both Jack and Diarmuid were excellent and SOB was very good too. Seanie came into it in 2nd half. Adrian poor today bar one great challenge. David very poor again v Cork but Paudie did very well. Tony poor although tried hard(maybe too hard). We did nt score from play in 2nd half till Paul Geaney entered the fray. I'm still a massive Geaney fan. In fact all our subs were excellent. Paul Murphy tenacious and brave. Moran solid as a rock and Burns did very well too. Cork fought hard hht Cleary Maguire and Powyer were struggling with injuries. Graham Sullivan had a great game after a shaky start. Plenty to work on, struggled with the sweeper Cork got away with plenty of off the ball stuff, umpires and linesmen ignored it completely

I look, it’s job done, Cork beaten by double scores and still lots to work on. That’s a good sign on my opinion. One is always going to be rusty to a degree and no team is ever going to hit the ground running, bookies rarely get it wrong and the spread today was -12. Exactly.
There are lots of positives and some negatives, someone above alluded to Foley struggling? I don’t think so but I’m open to correction, of our back six I thought our two time all star, O’Sullivan looked the more cagey, Graham mixed the good with the ok, Casey or more so Dan Donoghue will be pushing but that’s healthy.
What pleased me most was our physicality, hard hitting shoulder to shoulder ,, first half I counted Spillane, Barry twice, Diarmuid twice and Morley with a right nailer that somehow the red missed….. kickouts spot on, defensive, no goal chance conceded and when we went long we hit, Barry, Diarmuid and Moran. When we squeezed Cork similar the big lads counted up the turnover and kickout against stats.
Have to give a positive word on Cleary and Cork, the scoreboard is slightly flattering, Cork are a progressing team and would give big guns like Armagh or Mayo a run in the qualifiers
Biggest bonus for me is the return off the hunch, Moran and Geaney what telling contributions. Moran won’t be pushing for a start but his introduction time is probably his role for the year. Brosnan will be disappointed with his contribution, he snatched and was too eager to impress, Geaney is pushing and will probably start against Limerick/Tipp.
All in all Jack will be happy, Cirk disposed of, Home Munster final to look forward to and a lot to work on….

We should be happy enough i suppose a better test from cork than I thought much the same end result though! Our physicality was very pleasing we wore them out with some serious hits and hard running and they were out on their feet by the 50th min when our subs made a huge impact. Probably better for us than a 20 point facile win where cork had given up after 15 mins. Moran was a collosus when he came on anything to be said for starting him in final with either a Diarmuid moving to Adrian spillanes position or just playing 3 midfielders with paudie on the wing? Negatives 1. first half lethargic enough silly frees given away we should have backed ourselves back there a bit more we turned them over more often than not 2. Tom Sullivan form is a bit off , beaglaoich brosnan and paudie I thought as well the latter improved in 2nd Positives 1. Defence in 2nd half stopped the stupid fouling and cork only kicked 4 points a few class scores from way out that aren't really a defensive problem. 2. Not really a sniff of a goal for them. 3. Seanie got into it well after a couple of months without playing 4. Midfield including Moran. 5. Gavin white Diarmuid o connor and o brien were supe 6. Subs in general

Ryan- Did all that was asked of him, I’d say we were fairly close to 100% on kick outs GOS- Grew into the game with a couple of good turnovers and one very good catch from a kick out. Ran headlessly down a blind alley in the 2nd half but good asides from that. Foley- 2 brainless fouls in the first half but extremely good in the 2nd half TOS- Struggled on O’Mahony, couple of loose solos early on too. Blocked down in the 2nd half too Begley- Couple of cutting runs but not as much as usual Morley- Mopped up as usual but was lucky not to see black for challenge on Hurley at the end of the 1st half White- Frustrating player. Barely touched the ball first half and when he did he did something wrong with it. Tore into the game then 2nd half asides from running over the sideline at one stage DOC- Very good, good hits, won frees, linked the play very well Barry- Solid again, knows his limitations and plays to what he knows SOB- Best game in a long while. Very useful against packed defences SOS- Quiet early but always stands up. 10 points again today. Good ball winning 2nd half Spillane- Couple of good early turnovers but shot when he shouldn’t. Didn’t get involved much after that Brosnan- Almost tried too hard when he got it. Has to stand up in these games if he wants a starting spot Clifford- Double marked all game, got a nice few assists. Good to win by 12 when your best player is held P.Clifford- Very good opening point. Man marked all game. Mixed in and out of the game Geaney- Good calming influence. Will be gunning for a starting spot Moran- Silky smooth as ever. One dummy bounce really caught the eye. No matter how much people think he’s getting on, you can’t beat his ability at almost all facets of the game Murphy- Solid out Burns- interesting to see he was on instead of Savage. Kicked a good point JOC- Didn’t have much of an effect

Ps was it a day for the hawks ( like me who thought we woupd hammer/beat them well ) or the doves who thought cork are cork and would worry us ? A mixed bag that way really! Although imagine saying 10 or 15 years ago that commentators are saying cork can be happy with a double digit defeat at home to kerry in a munster semi final ! A few eyebrows would have been raised id say

Too many guys who aren't careful enough in possession in the starting team. I don't think you can have Spillane, Paudie, O'Brien and White all on the same team for instance as they have too many turnovers in them all together. Maybe add Brosnan to that. You'll get a net positive from some of them on a given day e.g. Sob & PC were good today but overall you can only get away with so many who cough up possession easily.
I know we're all excited about DOC but I think MOTM was pushing it a bit. He does great things and the potential is massive but he's callow enough, mixes the great with the ordinary and doesn't yet dominate games. Realistically we were under pressure in midfield all through, it was nip and tuck until David Moran came on and all of a sudden we became totally dominant. Might have been a coincidence, maybe not too.
A couple of our more celebrated defenders have been struggling for a while now.
At the same time when did we last play Cork without giving them half a dozen goal chances across 70 mins? I love the attitude the team has to the whole idea of defending now. Every turnover is met with absolute glee. The technique of our tackling is really good as well. There were moments when a Cork guy broke a tackle and took off through the middle and you're inwardly groaning - goal coming here - all of a sudden three Kerry guys converge and the runner is swallowed up. Kerry setting traps for opposition runners, did you ever think you'd see the day?
We're being a bit results based giving out about giving away some frees in the first half. Some of them were well out the field on the right hand sideline. They're good frees and don't get converted a lot of the time.
I thought DC had a great bad game if you'll allow the contradiction. He was quiet enough, fairly well marshalled for a lot of it but still when he got his hands on ball rather than try to kick a worldie for his own sake he gave a simple pass when it was the right thing to do etc. Even when he was a man among boys at minor level his unselfishness was remarkable considering the level he was at compared to those around him. I really like that about him.
Overall I'm coming away from that with the feeling that David Moran is absolutely vital, Dara Moynihan quietly has become pretty important and that our defensive system might end up bailing us out even if our forwards aren't firing on all cylinders.

If SoS is below his best Kerry are too.
If SoS is on top of his game, Kerry are always far better.
This game will bring him on a lot.
There were encouraging signs there towards the end.

Few things to learn from today. Cork were poor, and got worse with their substitute keeper who really struggled
Flahive was in Clifford's face until he went off injured. Clifford couldn't step forward without Flahive blocking him. Usual talking in his ear too.
No problem with what Flahive was doing but we were slow to react to it.
Later in the 2nd half Jack Barry went in near Clifford, on a couple of restarts, and at least tried to screen Flahive and give Clifford a yard.
I'd like to see a quicker reaction to this when Clifford is facing this kind of defender (probably will be all the time).

A good workmanlike performance- expected strong resistance from Cork & we got it for about 50 mins - our physicality wore them out as did our hard running all through - physicality is very pleasing as I felt that we didn’t have this in past few years. I remember the Dublin games in ‘19 when we were bullied repeatedly especially the replay when O’Beaglaoich & Paul Murphy were forced to leave the pitch due to heavy hits. We finished very strongly which was no coincidence due to the introduction of Moran in particular & Paul Geaney - Moran was colossal & was a very calming influence- had a great defensive catch late in the game which epitomised his value to the team. We mixed the good with the bad but there will always be a bit of rustiness first championship game which was to be expected.

Kerry started rusty as what is to be expected when you haven't played in 4 or 5 weeks and the team you are expected to hammer the team your playing. I agree that some performances were well below par. Clifford and Brosnan up front were very poor, seemed rushed with everything they did. Adrian Spillane is good for more physical teams like Mayo/Tyrone but when you play against a team that has a low block in defence like Cork had today, you need quick kick passers in the half forward line. Someone like Dara Moynihan would have been ideal. I think having Moran as a finisher, dealing with a game when its reaching its climax suits him like it did today. I think if that game went on for another 20 minutes that scoreline would have probably shown a Kerry 20+ point win. Cork supporters will have been happy to put it up to Kerry for 50 minutes, hopefully it will get a following behind them because they definitely need it. Kerry supporters handsomely outnumbered Cork today but hopefully Cork start to come back. This young team will have learned a lot from this today. It should make for a more interesting game when they play in Killarney next. Cíarraí Abú 🟢🟡

Firstly, can I suggest that commentators indicate if they were at the match, if only because those who couldn't make it will get a taste of what it was like to be there. Of course it will also enhance the quality of debate and we will be all the wiser having gotten more out of the contribution. Just out of interest I'm trying to gauge Jason's performance and it would help if I knew a comment was based on seeing him in the flesh, e.g. a lot of work is done off the ball. Veteran always accounts for his whereabouts and which is why we can't wait for his views. Now Royal, jazus but you're a fierce man for arguing; even with a margin of error my comment stands, now maybe we were match rusty but you insist Cork are a poor Div 4 team yet nobody can deny there was a moment of worry. Only time will tell if Derry are good or Tyrone are poor and while my guess is that based on the performances in question, Derry and Cork could be a tight enough affair though yes, Cork will always do better vs us.

There are a few warning signs here. We have a four week gap to the quarter final and will be playing against a good team with momentum. Kerry lacked sharpness due to the lack of game time in recent weeks but Cork had even less. Our forwards were well held and other teams will note Corks success here. Kerry won in the end as Cork could not get their hands on the ball for the last 20 minutes not because our attack really cut loose. This is not a luxury we will have later in the year.

Can any positivity be taken from the fact that at 50 minutes when only one point ahead Kerry were in a very tight game and not only didn't panic but routed Cork in the last 20 minutes?

Getting a test like that is a way better preparation for what’s down the line than what we got last year. Cork were very competitive and really put it up to us for 50 minutes. I was pleased that the 2 poorest performers in the league final in my opinion were our 2 best players yesterday in Diarmuid O’Connor and Stephen O’Brien. One or two posters mentioned that they were worried about Tom O’Sullivan and that he was poor enough. First of all I must say Cathail O’Mahony is a real talent, he was magical at u20 level, an outstanding kicker. Second of all, like with David Clifford I’d never have any major worries about Tom not being fully at it in lesser games because he always delivers when we need him most. Our bench is going to be a huge asset to us this year, against Limerick or Tipperary we’ll probably be unloading David Moran, Dara Moynihan (if fit), Tony Brosnan, Joe O’Connor and Paul Murphy. Best subs in the country by far.

Kerry setting traps for opposition runners, did you ever think you'd see the day? . This is a great point, Dublin used to do similar, invite an attacking player down a certain avenue, Dublin used to provide these hidden traps on the wings and then before you knew it you were doubling back and out of room over the end line. Kerry were differing , in that you were invited or though you had a gap in the centre, within seconds you were either hounded in a three to one tackle, or depending on the player, and this is what impressed me most, we adapted. We targeted certain key men, twice Maguire fell for this trap and was crunched with a shoulder, similar twice Powter came through and again it was the physical hit that nailed…. Must of these were in the first half and lung bursting for the Cork men. We didn’t cough up one sniff of a goal chance to Cork. A lot are moaning about the late hit on Hurley, I’m the opposite, we have had a soft centre for years, we were a hell of a lot more physical yesterday, all hits bar Morley’s were on the rules and spot on…. It’s also no harm letting teams know you’re in for a tulk in or around the ‘D’ Hurley is a big unit but he folded like a piece of paper…. We have significantly bulked and using it to our advantage at long last.

Any team we playin later stages mayo ,Armagh galway,Tyrone,Donegal kildare or dublin hit hard as well. someone said gavin white is our thrid most important player, Tadgh Morley is arguably up there with seanie and David not for talent but for importance he is the extra man in those blind alleys and is super effective at it. What will happen if a team plays 6 forwards and make Tadgh man mark ? The answer of course is David Clifford as you can't play 6 forwards and double team David. Other than Adrian maybe any of the other forwards you couldn't leave free.

Job done, as expected, but of course we will have some concerns around the fact that cork were on our tails at the short whistle and that we still had not shaken them off at the 50 minutes, it even looked like cork were coming with the momentum, but come the experience in the form of Moran, geaney and murphy, ship steadied and finishing comprehensively. Fair dues to cork, they showed up with pride today and gave it their best shot.
The concern for kerry is that we will meet way better teams than cork, scoring 6 points from play up to the 50th minute, with 6 more following in the final qtr. we can say we were rusty but so are other teams. The first half we looked very ponderous, I think our defenders were crowding the forward space, leading to some easy turn overs for cork due to traffic volume created by our own players. We as supporters never really got of our feet with excitement, maybe down to the fact our star man was subdued. We definitely have lots of work to do, the stress test today for 50 minutes will help. As mentioned the gap to the qtr final could be concerning, but look overall, I think we showed some maturity as a team today, bring on the munster final.

There was a moment in the first half when a Cork player, can't remember who, took a forward mark about 35 metres from goal. A scoreable position, not easy but scoreable. Instead, from the mark, he passed the ball 40 yards backwards. Like, wtf is the point of taking the mark if you're going to do that? Strange how a fella would be that afraid to have a go - it's a free shot at goal, what have you got to lose? His teammates hit a few beauties from distance though.
