Gutting for Mayo.
Changing the goal-keeper was a crazy move. That's not being wise after the event. There was way too much downside risk, and very little potential gain. This is one that got away for Mayo.
Another thing that cost Mayo was being over-elaborate in the final third. They moved the ball very well to get up there, but then lacked the conviction to drive forward and score.
The Dubs are a very cynical team, and I just can't warm to them. But you have to admire their skill and strength.

Heartbreaking for mayo and they will have plenty of regrets. Well done to Dublin. More quality on the bench crucial. Mayos keeper change will attract a lot of flak and rightly so. To rub it in, I thought cluxton was outstanding.

Mayos chances of winning in 2015 were severely dented whe clarke got injured in the quarter final. Hennelly not in the same class. Clarke and cluxton are the most valuable players playing on Sat. The Mayo management should resign after that move of springing Hennelly. He is not up to this level. He gifted about five points to Dublin, led to Keegans black card and then the goal. On a personal level I hope he isnt badly effected by all of this. It wasnt fair on him.

Better team won. To be fair to Mayo, they have given the Dubs far more problems than we have the last couple of years. We make them look great, Mayo make them look ordinary. In Donie Buckley, Mayo have someone with far more technical and tactical acumen than Kerry have in their entire collection of sideline stalwarts. As ever, the absence of a forward who can shoot the lights out on the biggest day continues to be their achilles heel.

Gutted for Mayo. Crazy decision with Hennelly. Has always been a liability at this level. Doesn't seem to have the temperament. I don't blame him it's the management. That could have been us if we followed the nonsense of stsrtingn Sheehan in goals.
Clarke looked a lot steadier when on. I wonder is Bernard finished at this level? He's had a very poor year by his standards. Disappointed for Killian o Connor. I don't think he's a marquee forward as is claimed but, he's always been a great free taker.
I thought Aidan O'Shea did well. I think the Dubs are coming back to the pack a little bit. Costello had a great spell as well.
Cluxton was brilliant with the kick outs in the second half.

All we can expect from the players is that they play to the best of their ability and they did that. Hennelly was not the right man for the job on the day but it was not his call to go on. Perhaps Dublin would have upped their game but perhaps not. Dublin the better team by a whisker and deserving All Ireland Champions. Not a classic game but a very intriguing one. Well done to all on the field.

Congratulations to Dublin who are deserving All Ireland Champions once again. It's well documented that Dublin have a tremendous squad and when one considers how they won this All Ireland without Rory O'Carroll and Jack McGaffrey, it just reinforces the view about the depth of talent at Dublin’s disposal.
Beating Mayo after Dublin had no choice but to peak in order to beat a Kerry team who threw everything at Dublin in the semi-final was always going to test the depth of Dublin’s resolve and hunger. Make no mistake about it - Dublin absolutely peaked in 2016 in order to beat Kerry and footballing wise they never reached those heights again in the finals against Mayo. That Dublin were still just about good enough to beat an absolutely ravenous and manically driven Mayo team who gave everything they had speaks volumes.
Dublin were simply not found wanting in 2016 and there is doubt about it, this is a special Dublin team - a great team. For all Dublin’s football ability, their fearlessness and refusal to accept defeat won this final for them. Mayo showed all those qualities too but Dublin matched them in this regard and their energy and better quality off the bench carried them home. Credit to Mayo for hanging in there and carrying the fight to the bitter end but on balance, in the second game, I thought Dublin were simply the better team. I do get a sense of slight road weariness now for some members of this Dublin squad and indeed will Jim Gavin remain on? Bowing out now at the top with greatness assured might be considered? Hope for the rest of us in 2017!
PS: Martin Carney in his RTE co-commentary is beyond annoying - what an ass - I can’t stand him.

Disagree with the assertion that Dublin peaked to beat Kerry. They didn't. Take away the 10 minutes before half time and Dublin were comfortably better helped in no small way by Fitzmauruce choosing to have the old, slow bodies on the pitch at the end. Mayo have given Dublin infinitely more problems than we have in the last 2 years...

Kerry do not have the defenders that mayo have but do have better forwards.

A heap will be made out of the switch of 'keepers. Great, more lazy analysis. The Dubs were the better team today and that's that. Mayo have a lot to be proud of and I think any talk of Rochford resigning is ridiculous. There is a young core to this Mayo team with a heap of experience and it would be hoped that they dig in and set their sights on Sam again next year.

The Mayo players shoved out the last management for being tactically inept. Rochford's excuse for the change was pitiful - 'We thought Dublin might target our short kickout more'' Ignores- 1 your sub goalie hasn't kicked a ball since June 2 you picked your current goalie for his commanding presence 3 it unsettles the whole team - who changes a goalie for a final

Congrats Rasher and all the Dubs posters. Great win great team . Enjoy your pint Rashers but mind Sam - he is only on loan to Dublin. Super effort by Mayo - hard for them to stomach the result but as already said here they have been the only team to give the Dubs a match in the last few years.

I think the Kerry forwards and midfield carried way more threat than Mayo's forwards and midfield and they showed it against Dublin this year. Dublin simply had to shoot the lights out to beat us in 2016 while they showed different qualities against a very well organised defensive team in Mayo.

Switch of keeper lazy analysis Brucewayne? For the 2nd all Ireland in 3 years Hennelly has cost Mayo dear. He got Keegan sent off, was directly responsible for the concession of 1-4. Clarke had been rock solid all year, changing it at the last minute has been the difference between the despair that Mayo are,yet again, experiencing tonight and the ecstasy that victory would have brought. Devastated for Mayo and their legions of fans. Devastated also for my dad, an 80 year old fanatic, who still follows the green and red wherever they go. No doubt he will be raring to go again come february, God willing. No better county than Mayo to keep trying no matter what the odds. Congrats to Dublin, to put All Ireland's back to back is a tough feat but they have achieved something special and should be rightly proud. They were nowhere near the levels they and we expect of them but good enough to get the job done today.

My point is that all we're going to hear about when anyone writes about this game in the next few days is that switch. Any other subtler points relating to what happened with regards to tactics or strategy will be completely drowned out by the din of 'Clarke should have been on!!!' And that's cobblers. I think it was encouraging to see Rochford back a player in his squad even though it was clear to him that he'd be hanged if it didn't work out. It didn't and that's all we're going to hear now. Not to mind, but it is an incredibly harsh spotlight to be throwing on Hennelly also. But don't let that get in the way when there's an easy scapegoat to lay the blame on for the failure of 21 guys who played about 90 minutes of football.

Hennelly shouldn't be blamed but Rochford should. His decision to switch was what Sir Humphrey would have called "a very brave decision, Prime Minister ". Of course there were other factors like facing an exceptionally good Dublin team who would keep pushing to the end but the margin was tight and the smallest things could have made the difference never mind that whopping great elephant. Don't forget that missed point before half time as well. Goalkeepers taking long range frees seems to have gone out of fashion- even Cluxton doesn't seem to do it much nowadays. So when Hennelly stepped up it must have been an instruction from the sideline or a planned tactic. Another "brave decision" because goalkeepers are expected to nail these frees and it is very bad for the team psyche when that doesn't happen. Mayo didn't have the right management last year and have been let down by the sideline yet again.

A few beers been had, why am I posting on a Kerryforum tonight, maybe over the last few days the anger of your posters towards Dublin suprised and annoyed me, but also the balanceviews of other posters made it refreshing. Today was a dogfight, how we won was irrelevant once we won. GAA is fickle, Kerry's epitaph had been written after 2013, if Dublin lost today the vultures were swirling. Unfortunetly To win an All Ireland today requires more punching than kicking. Mayo were Tyronesque today, Dublin would of lost today if we tried to win just trying football. So we wont then see the beauty, what we will see is the desire.

To err on a first AI final as manager is forgivable though I wonder of Mayo management game theory, bearing in mind we don't know who or how many made the change, I think it was mad though to choose a weakish blocker for the potential gain in kick-outs, and it was inevitable that Dublin would feel they would have better chances at goal with Hennelly, though they didn't goal from play it would have boosted their hopes while it may have dented Mayo's resolve. I wouldn't attach an ounce of anything to Robbie, all he did was present for selection, being rusty was enough and after Clark's saves 2 weeks ago it was a bold move.
I thought Mayo could do it but maybe the week break have a more experienced Gavin the window of opportunity to get them right, a first time manager mightn't have as much to draw from.
For all that Dublin only won by the minimum so Mayo will be well there next year. Kerry will have learned a lot about Dublin from these games, we now know where they are on the scale, up to now they were an unknown quantity. Donie Buckley would be just the man to bolster and tune in our emerging talent, he'd make men out of 'em across the winter and we would reign in 2017.
How many of our veterans would go with that pace today? Fitness, stamina and strength are everything and if that combination blips then errors result as the game closes out.
Jazus will be hard for Mayo and the uncertainty going forward to-boot, 2 OGs is unthinkable, if it happened another team they would be disturbed, how they turned up today was a miracle in itself. Next year will be interesting with each of the four favourites from a different province.
Well done to both teams for a great 160 minutes, congrats to Dubs and, well what can one say to good auld Mayo folk, I'd wish 'em the best and they will be back as there is no sign whatsoever of wear and tear. 2017 semis are Munster v Ulster, Leinster v Connaught!

Added to that the big city lads v everyones second team! Impartiality goes out the window. Sentiment takes over. I was ABK in the naughties myself. You just get sick of the same team winning. So now that the back to back is done expect wild celebrations from outside the capital if we lose so much as a coin toss!😊 we would be the same.

Have yet to watch it back but in real time I felt that Deegan and his linesmen had a very poor day. A ridiculous amount of off the ball stuff directly in linesman's line of sight ignored. Congrats to Dublin they just got over the line, I thought the players reactions were a lot more muted this year than before even though they'd just achieved the much sought after 2 in a row. So now we look forward to a new year and the race for Sam 2107. Must get planning my league outings.
