Not posted on here for a while but after watching that I feel annoyed and compelled to post here. I feel Eamonn did not cover himself in glory again today, on the big day. He got tactics right from the outset as we frustrated dublin and contained them. As the game unfolded eamonn and his team AGAIN were left wanting. The changes that were made were baffling. Griffin subbed ahead of Marc. Marc was beat well all day long. Brogan had him for pace all day. Taking crowley off? . Leaving the Gooch on in 2nd half when he clearly wasn't influencing things. We turned to the long ball which did not pay off once. How they left kealy. On. You could count on one hand the kick outs he got right. I know it's the league and we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water but jesus christ is deja vous.

Clueless. Back to the same old story again - lumping big high aimless ball in to Donaghy. He was out of the game at midfield in the 1st half so just take him off. We had no kick out strategy of our own and that really killed us. Our mobility around the middle of the field is way behind Dublin. Fionn Fitz is lacking the strength to play at this level. He just can't break tacklesand forwards are able to shrug him off the ball easily. May Eamon and the lads didn't want to give away too much at rid time of the ear but from this showing they don't look to have learned too much from last years all Irelanf final.

Congrats to dublin, deserving winners.
The dubs are a team at their peak and we're not, it's that simple.
Donaghy, Sheehan, Ó'Sé, Mahony and probably Gooch are giving their all but they're chasing fellas at peak which isn't easy.
Kerry were in it for longer than I thought they would be so fair play for that.
We don't have a running game so we're reduced to kicking percentage ball into the FF line which already weakens us.
Too many of our kickouts were also 50/50 balls down the middle whereas the dubs kick to a runner short or on the wing.
Kerry can't have an inferior gameplan when facing a superior team.
One more point, Kealy and a Croke Park screw-up is a sure bet these days.
Congrats to all Dublin posters here.

We beat the dubs by 17 in '09', that really woke the dubs up. Kerry hammered out the gate by 11 against the dubs should really kick start this team. And if it doesn't, we'll be stuck on 37 AI titles for the next decade.

Idea of playing a blanket a trying to counter using O'Brien and Darren pace was good and worked at times. Too many passengers on that team when tjebheat turned up.
Marc was lucky to see half time. Ditto fion Fitz. Thought we were bossed at midfield again. D Walsh was poor I thought. Sheehan is not a half forward as was proven 8 years ago against Tyrone.
Paul Murphy i thought was good. As well as mahony until the sending off. Crowley was top class

shocking second half from kerry way off the pace, dublin won without getting into second gear. there are a few out there today whos days are number in a kerry jersey, the Dublin bench are very strong and just ran through kerry at the finish. O'Mahony is around long enough and should have had more cop on to be sent off it's not his first time i suppose. a munster title is most this side will win this year if cork fail to turn up again this year. but there is no all ireland title in this side we need fresh blood the Star and Cooper look they have lost there pace Mark oshea was allover the place Brogan kicked 4 points made the goal and won a few frees i to thought Mark should have been called a shore
11 points in it today and will be that or more if we are to meet later on in the summer. Tommy Walsh must be gone off the boil altogether if he couldn't get a run today.

What does K. Donaghy have to do to get a free. Was he not fouled on a few occasions in the large rectangle? By my reckoning he should have been awarded one if not two penalties. Views?

Kealy kicked the ball to a static Padraig o Connor for the goal, o Connor didn't know what was happening, miscommunication or what? Did Kealy have a better option? Kerry were a man down and Dublin were pressing up.
We were in the game until the sending off but we found our scores harder to come by and we looked labored at times.
I wonder what was said between Sheehan and Paul Flynn at the end?
Had we won this game it would be forgotten by Wednesday anyway. It will take all kerry have and some luck to beat them if we meet in August.

Kerry looked slow and labored at times. Dubs were flying right to the end. What happened with Aiden? didn't see it on TV. I have to hand it to Dubs. Their organized play and fitness is unreal and the skill of the likes of Kilkenny, B Brogan and McMenamin (Sub) is what sets them apart. An awful lot to do to even compete with them in August. August is a long way off though. I hope Anthony Maher, Tommy Walsh and James are fit for the Summer. We are going to need them. If the League proved anything it's that Dublin are still way ahead of everyone else. Finally Congrats to Rashers and Skybluezone. Enjoy the win and the singsong on the Northside this evening. We will be back!

The knives are out all ready!
Watching the first half, I saw enough of substance that I think we will be strong contenders. I learned an awful lot watching that. On a positive note, Peter Crowley had a storming game before injury, he turned over some attacks and showed a strong physical presense. We need that type of leadership going forward. Similarly, Paul Murphy showed a workman like and composed performance.
Looking at midfield, it is hard for our midfielders to impose themselves in a game where there are so many short kick outs. Particularly against Dublin, mobility is key.I expect Anthony maher to make a big difference there, in terms of work rate, if he returns from injury. The reality is that if Sheehan was not the best kicker off the ground in the country, he wouldn't be on this team. He has a lack of mobility, which we could carry, but not against Dublin.
Individually, all our older players are still top class, the problem arises when you have to slot them A. All in the same team together leading to a general drop in mobility and B. Against a team like Dublin where there are very little one v one battles and much more of a fluid, zonal game. A case in point is that Gooch can still turn players inside out but we have to work better on creating the one v ones. If he is spending his time tracking back and covering guys then he is of no use because he has very little defensive skills. If we don't have game plans to use his strengths and create one v ones close to goal then he shouldn't be on. When people talk about him being a playmaker, I think he would get swallowed up physically out the field. For the record, we are better with him on the field but we have to figure out how to isolate him.
Defensively, Marc wasn't at his best but still showed enough trickery that he will keep his place. Enright will keep his spot also. I foresee Crowley being center back and maybe Mahoney pushing back to full. Fionn Fitzgerald is a classy and fantastic footballer but he was too slight today against Dublin.
I saw Mahoney, Sheehan and Darren o Sullivan lose balls running into danger. Dublin are a very fit team and we need to use the ball as much as we can. Recent performances have shown the real loss of Declan o Sullivan as a link between scorers and defenders. I almost never saw him get dispossessed or lose ball.
Strength and conditioning are key to Dublin wins. I think we can up it in this area. I wonder if their physiques are due to better facilities, advice and resources?

A few things stood out for me,
It was like 13, they pulled away with a few minutes left.
We lacked a cutting edge upfront, JOD & Geaney will make a huge difference.
We lack a decent kickout strategy
Kinsella gave us nothing, Donaghty & star fouled consistently.
I'll say it here now I believe we will beat them in August.

Well today told us what we have to aim at.
Someone said that we will be better when Anthony Maher returns? Well I will say it here and now we need to find a mobile midfielder and quick. Maher, Moran, Sheehan and Star, Buckley are not what we need out there. One of them CERTAINLY yes but two? We will go so far BUT will not see it out.
I would throw Mark griffin in there in the A v B games in training just for a look at least.
For sure Paul Geaney and James O Donoghue will strengthen us a fair bit but we have to think outside the box now if we are to be genuine contenders.
Congrats to Rashers and Skybluezone. Ye are the team to beat. Enjoy the win. It is fully deserved.

With the tactics we played and went pretty well with in the first half I don't know if geaney and jod would make a massive difference. We pulled everyone behind the ball bar our two speedsters in O'Brien and Darran and Gooch. The plan was was to turn over the ball and use the pace of the two lads inside as an out ball. I think k it worked well. It will only work with two speedsters as if you only have one player with the pace to show for the ball you can double team him. That means James will likely be the only one to slot in as one of the front three unless cooper is dropped. Or you could move Darran or O'Brien for James and drop a half forward. O think essentially to beat Dublin we will have to be like Leicester in the premier league and a more evolved version of Donegal from 14. Turn over the ball and break at ferocious pace. Problem is Dublin are kind of ready for that now so every chance needs to be taken. Geaney and Gooch are too class marksmen bit lack outright pace.

Wasn't at the game so I guess my opinion doesn't count for much but would go along the same lines as most others so far. Crowley along with Paul Murphy were probably our best performers on the day. Marc looked in trouble from the outset. Kealy didn't cover himself in glory. Hard to say who to blame for the kickout that led to the goal. However I do think Brian Kelly is a certain starter for championship. Brendan O'Sullivan made a decent impact from the bench. He looks like he could be an option along with Moran at midfield if Maher doesn't make it back. He's well able to carry the ball for a big lad. The return of Paul Geaney and James O'Donoghue will make a big difference up front. Finally, I felt the management was very slow in reacting to the game. Could easily have made changes a lot sooner. I guess they know better than any of us.
And sure at the end of the day it's only April. We'll be there or thereabouts come September.

That was embarrassing. Kerry way off the pace. Kealys kickouts were a joke. We won no breaks. Dublin walked midfield. Fenton was very good. Marc was well beaten by Brogan. Crowley was easily Kerrys best player. Donnacha was poor. Fionn got a roasting from Kilkenny. The older guys were off the pace. Too old they don't have the legs anymore. Kerry will get destroyed in august if they meet Dublin. I hope for players like Marc O'Mahony Donaghy and Gooch that they don't meet Dublin anymore before they retire. Dublins bench was better today than Kerrys. Apart from Crowley it's hard to find a good performance. Dublin will win this years all Ireland fairly easily. Scary to think they didn't have McCaffrey and O'Carroll today.

Just from a neutral's point of view, I'm not sure that I'd share all that much of the concerns for this Kerry side. This is a fine Dublin team. They're fast, smart, full of football and they finish games so strongly. Once they get their goal(s), you're toast. Wear them down, draw them out, finish them. Very efficient.
Kerry didn't look like a finished team today. They didn't seem as fit as Dublin (who does?) but then they have some time now to work on that. It didn't seem like all the pieces were in the right places, and some of the older players were simply overrun as a result. Fitzmaurice has the tools to fix today's problems though. Can O'Donoghue and Geaney find fitness and form for the summer? Can Brendan O'Sullivan bring a bit of athleticism to the middle third, or Ó Beaglaoich to the backs? What difference would Maher, or a more developed kick-out strategy make?
It's not the worst time to get a fright, and he has the time and the players to bring it all together. We'll see where they're at in August.

The Dubs had a kickout strategy that gave them a very high percentage of ball off their own kick.
Our strategy seemed to be to kick it long and take our chances. This needs to improve. The same happened in the league game as the Dubs destroyed us off their own kickout.
Fitzmaurice has eyes like the rest of us, so hopefully it gets addressed.

A few points: 1. They dispossessed us repeatedly and with ease, tapping the ball out of our hands. 2. Cluxton was able to find a paid of hands in the air when he faced the same constraints with kickouts. 3. Ok, we will improve and we know how good The Dubs are, but they will improve too, how much? 4. Can we still sacrifice PM @ CHF? Is he best at CHF going back or a CHB going forward? 5. Did the sideline respond quick enough when change was demanded?
The elephant in the room for me is that Gaelic Football and Hurling are in a permanent state of elitism and poverty, Kerry are easily the 2nd best team and today put daylight between ourselves and the top, bar a few more the rest are impoverished and have no chance of achieving success in the long summer when the best football is played, you get an off blip here and there and that's it, maybe this Minister for Rural Affairs lark will throw up something.

Wouldn't write Kerry off for Sam yet. Like last sept they stayed within a lucky break of the dubs for most of the game. Dubs got the breaks and took them. Refereeing becoming a big issue for Kerry. Kerry are getting pinged for marginal fouls that they were accustomed to getting away with and they are not getting deserved frees like Stephen o briens penalty shout in the first half. Two reasons for this, 1. Media outcry and subsequent admonishment of refs for poor calls against the dubs is equal to that of Kerry. 2. Padraig Hughes getting conned by JOD last July in Killarney was another turning point. Bar Maurice deegan the current crop of refs are no longer in awe of the aristocrats of Gaelic football. Any team that is starting dean rock is beatable so I wouldn't be too downbeat.

Brendan O'Sullivan should have played a much, much bigger role for Kerry through the league. Could be a vital component by this stage.

Dublin well worth their win. At the moment they are just a much better team. We did well to hang in there and did a lot of things right. Kick outs at both ends were crucial and was the main reason why we were always trying to keep up.
Murphy and Crowley best for me. They both gave all action and high energy displays which is the only way to counteract this Dublin team.

played dublin now in 2 finals and our subs policy in both leave me baffled, the most worrying thing about today was that dublin knew they had our number and were always comfortable. talking about fellows missing is no excuse as the inevitable new team that kerry should have started building end 14 start 15 is now back to2017

Do we actually have a kickout strategy? Bar if a team sits deep to crowd the middle go to a corner back.
When a team pushes up on us it seems the tactics are to just belt it out the middle. Or maybe there are tactics but Kealy just can't execute them. How many balls did he kick away in the first half?
When Cluxton is forced to go long it's normally to a one-one on the wing. We seem to just fire it into a crowd and hope for the best.
Allied to this we have no pace in the middle of the field so we are hoping to out jump opponents as opposed to outrun them for a ball. With Sheehan and dwalsh in the half forward line we don't have the possibility of them sprinting away from their man to collect a kickout around the half backline or midfield.
Because we are so afraid of Dublin's pace and speed we decide to set up camp on our own 45 as there is safety in numbers and out slow players wont be exposed.
Thats fine except you are inviting dublin onto you and as your defending so close to your own goals all it takes is one mistake or slip and your goosed.
Essentailly our problem is caused by not having the pace or stamina to match dublin run for run. Maybe we just dnt have the players now to crack it.
Do we need runner in the middle of the park. Its great to have two fielders but no opposition will kick to them. And we cant win our own kickouts anyway.
Maybe Darren or Steven o brien ( if they are taught how to tackle) can come into the half forward line with a runner in midfield like John lyne or Brendan o Sullivan.

The main raeson Kerry stayed in this game so long was that Dublin were very sloppy going forward and gave the ball away several times. If they were a bit more clinical this would have been even worse.
You cant win a game if you concede possession repeatedly from the Dublin kickout and also lose a high proportion of you own.

Long and the short of it Dublin are a better squad than Kerry. It's a complete reversal of the roles back in the 2005-2009 era. Kerry were similarly a better quad than Dublin.
Kerry can still beat Dublin in an all Ireland semi but in order to do so we'll have to play to our absolute peak with everyone available and firing.
Line won't be happy with themselves though, few mismatches. Fionn and Kilkenny was a poor mismatch. Sad to see long balls being lumped in from 70 yards to Donaghy, few players to return but if we lose midfield like we did today we won't be able to hold Dublins attacking threat.
