After a good sequence of result today was a reality check. As others alluded carrying a big number over 30 looks a bridge too far with the Dubs. Restricting Brendan O'Sullivan to cameos during the league now looks a bit too cautious, his drive could be very important. The sending off clearly determined the outcome but even before that our odds on winning were slipping.
Some things were very frustrating. One simple example: the throw in at the start of the second-half. Both Kieran and Moran go for it, we lose out and Dublin tap over an easy point. Surely it should be decided beforehand who will jump and who will stay? Not a turning point but the task is already hard enough without making it even harder with self inflicted errors. It was also frustrating that Gooch's inspirational point in the first-half was immediately followed by conceding a handy one straight off the kick out.
Speaking of kick outs, ours were appalling today. Possibly exaggerating but did we concede 1-5 off our own? It gives without saying we have to do much much better.
The positives for me were Crowley who was outstanding, Stephen O'Brien who did well while Paul Murphy was good and gave Cian O'Sullivan something to chew on. Our back options look very threadbare, however, and Marc was badly beaten today too. He also spurned a half decent chance early when going for a selfish shot when we potentially had a 3-on-2. If we are to beat Dublin later in the summer we have to be absolutely clinical with those half-chances.
Plenty to work on. My glass is half empty right now and all I have from the league is the change of role for Paul Murphy and the emergence of Brendan O'Sullivan. Dublin look far ahead of everyone. The beauty of sport though is nothing stays the same and things can often change very quickly. Hopefully we are at "peak Dublin".

We just weren't at the races today, simple as that. Dublin were sharper in thought and in action. Too many times our players were caught dithering on the ball and having it robbed off them. Kealy had a really bad day at the office but look, things like that happen. He has been very solid for the last year or so and an all star proves that. You'd have to wonder at times though what Donaghy has to do to get a free! Should have had a penalty in 2nd half when he was hauled down as a high ball was delivered. A lot to chew on after today but all is not lost. We were just two points down (even though we weren't playing great) when O'Mahony had the red mist decend. These discipline issues will cost us unless Fitzy takes a strong line on them. Tell lads shut there mouth and play ball...... A long Summer there yet.

What does K. Donaghy have to do to get a free. Was he not fouled on a few occasions in the large rectangle? By my reckoning he should have been awarded one if not two penalties. Views? Spot on. I hate to criticise refs but what were the umpires at? They are all miked up to the ref..... Surely they should have been in his ear.

From my vantage point in the upper Hogan, I couldn't believe my eyes at the poor quality of kick out by Brendan Kealy. He gave our midfielders no chance and the ball was coming back in as quick as it went out. I know Marc was poor today but by Jesus he got little help from his keeper.
It was depressing to see that we appear to have learned nothing from last September. We were burned around the middle last year and ditto this year. We played the same type of traditional fielding players again and they got chewed up, yet again. I thought the management were poor in their decision making and some of their substitutions were baffling.
Murphy was good but it's really borrowing from Peter to pay paul as our defence without him is very ropey looking. Crowley was immense and was putting out fires all over the place. Unfortunately, Marc and Kieran can't really operate at that level for 70 minutes. Ditto Aidan and his red card was foolish. It extinguished any slim chance we had of winning the game. Hats off to Dublin, they are the best team in the country by some distance, at the moment.

The elephant in the room for me is that Gaelic Football and Hurling are in a permanent state of elitism and poverty, Kerry are easily the 2nd best team and today put daylight between ourselves and the top, bar a few more the rest are impoverished and have no chance of achieving success in the long summer when the best football is played, you get an off blip here and there and that's it, maybe this Minister for Rural Affairs lark will throw up something. depressingly true Kerry are not the second best team in the country

Is the Paul Murphy experiment working? I would definitely prefer to see him given a man marking job. I'm not entirely sure I saw him making much of an impact today (caveat, watched the match on TV).

Eamon Fitz is too loyal to Marc and Aidan. Griffin was right to give him a mouthful when replaced today. You can't have a 36 year old and 35 year old playing corner back and centre back at this level and expect to land Sam. Great ball players still but pace and mobility is the king now! They would not be playing for Dublin with that lack of pace but Kerry still persist with them. Crowley to centre back from now on to replace O Mahony with Murphy and Killian on the wings. Put young o beaglaoich to the corner when fit to mark Paul mannion. Shane enright to make brogan. Is eamonn won't make them hard calls let Jack O Connor back in next year because he definitely will make them!

Kerry looked very nervous at the start of the game with a few dropped balls, Donncha Walsh in particular had a couple. O'Brien was very good but I was very disappointed with Darran although other than O'Brien, Crowley and maybe Griffin and Murphy everyone else was disappointing. The sending off had a big impact but we weren't going to win anyway.

" We'll know where we stand after the match " so said EF. Well wither Kerry now ? How does 11 points behind Dublin sound - a Dublin team that cruised through the match ? In fairness to our players they gave it all but were clearly second best. But the Dubs saw out the end game easily. Ok conceding the first goal was crazy - poetic justice Donegal folk will say - but for Marc to allow Brogan to save a ball from going wide and then allowing himself to be rounded in the square for the second goal was also , well , crazy. And Aidan's red card was stupid play and lets face it he let the team down. Up to that point we had been defending strongly and minding our goal but Aidan's absence allied to the relentless Dublin pressure meant something had to give. And as already alluded to in previous posts our kick outs invited wave after wave of Dublin attacks. On many occasions Kealy just kicked the ball out more in hope than probability when no Kerry player was showing. Contrast his kick out with Cluxtons - no comparison - Cluxton invariably found his man who was put under no pressure and we all retreated - a la Donegal of old - behind the 50 yard line before attempting to stop the wall of blue. Star was all over the shop but he at least tried to make a nuisance of himself but the high balls in to him were worthless as he was well manacled and was never going to be given a free. Incidentally did we have any goal attempt shot on Cluxton ? I cant remember one and that is a sad commentary on our forwards - but maybe understandably as they had to forage outfield for possession.
So any hope in our efforts to regain Sam ? Any brightness in the clouds now ? In my mind conceding those 2 clearly preventable goals and Aidan's red card , were unsurmountable obstacles. But even if Aidan remained and the goals not conceded the Dubs were clearly the better team and had winners written all over them. We never succeeded in putting them under any pressure. So would a final scoreline of say 20 points to 13 have " told us where we are " and would we be satisfied with it ? If we meet the Dubs in August - and all going well we should - I would believe we would be in for a similar hiding if we started with Marc , Aidan , Sheehan and perhaps Fionn. Players like Buckley , James O'D , Maher , Alan Fitz , Brendan O'Sullivan, B.O.B and the two Geaneys , must be focused on and fast tracked after their lay offs. And as for Tommy Walsh , whats the story with him ? Would putting him on at full forward today during that second half have done any harm ? He would have been one distraction for the Dubs but at this stage are we ever going to know ?
Bad day today but consolation only in knowing the team that beat us is clearly the best in the country and one whose standards we should aspire to attain - but also regrets today.

Even without the bad refereeing (and it was very bad), the blunders, the goals and the red card we were unlikely to win today playing the way we did. Let's face it, even though it pains me to say it, we were beaten by a far superior team. I said before that this Dublin team is the compete package and we're still playing catchup. Now I'm beginning to believe that they are probably the best Dublin team ever and we, as the only team in the country able to come close to them, are destined to keep running into them and falling short. Something like Dublin experienced from us during the Golden Years. Still, even if that is true, Dublin will find that being King of the Castle is a precarious place and we, being Kerry will keep going until we find a way to knock them off their perch. How long that takes is anyone's guess. On a more positive note we now know that Kerry's recent success had nothing to do with a local political dynasty. Up to today we had not suffered a defeat since the Healy Raes got elected. If we had won the League they would surely have taken the credit ? Also reaching the final was our best League performance since 2009 so let's not write off Championship ambitions just yet.

Still coiled like a spring so will leave detailed rant for the coming days, til I unwind. Dublin thoroughly deserved winners. For Kerry the most positive note was Peter Crowley's likely best ever game for Kerry. Herculean.

Now maybe people were being populist but on the one hand we get told that the future is tourism, in this case literary tourism, while on the other hand Kerry jobs are shifting to the pale as we speak. And then they have a go at us, telling us that people outside the county make bigger contributions. If we are to believe that non-Kerry people and non-Kerry locations are better than us, we must be doomed? There is another thread also on this, Templenoe, Rural Clubs, etc - Spillane in Exanminer and as I have said before, there is no one answer but if everyone did their bit it would help. Days like today are a stark reminder that time is not on our side, and Kerry is hardly the hardest hit. While dairy farming is dying (and fishing?), we are so lucky we have such a vibrant tourism industry, but then we read last week that the ambulance chasing is now turning on scenic trails, and the number and value of claims in 'established lines of business' has gone through the roof this past year. Now where were are critics when the real culprits need to be cut down to size? Dublin GAA have precisely 100 times Leitrim's annual budget, a startling reminder of where we are. Some enlightening comment on the game here. BTW yourholiness, if Kerry aren't the 2nd best team, who are? Éamonn will be criticised re older players but he did substitute Marc albeit in '14 and I suppose this Dublin team wreaks havoc on over 30s. Brian Cody is the only GAA manager who moved top class players on to make room for rookies coming through, now maybe the rookies just happened to be exceptional, but boy did he make some decisions that everyone thought were so so crazy. I suppose it's now down to the pipeline, and the bar is rising with the backing and facilities the Dubs have.

Serious changes needed to be realistic. Today we lacked forwards who could shoot and score on sight from anywhere within the 45. We lacked defenders who would stick to their jobs of marking at kick outs & also counter attacks. It felt like Kerry had to work so much harder today for their scores than Dublin,I can't recently remember Donaghy doing damage to the scoreboard ever against Dublin. So why did Kerry continue to pump high ball in. Instead of having runners going opposite directions of each other (to stretch the Dublin blanket) and play a low ball into the chest area. Darran O'Sullivan has for me always been a great man to unlock a defence but waste the chance and he did today in blazing over when 1 on 1 with Cluxton, I expect JOD to take his spot. Donaghy isn't worth the start anymore I'm sorry but the man's past it. Maher will take over. Fionn Fitzgerald was dreadful today and probably will fall out of favour after leaving Kilkenny walk all over him like he did. Would K.Young have done the same?,I think not. Mark Griffin had a fine game also, can't understand his withdrawal. I would have him in the championship team to play Limerick/Clare on June 12th Call me crazy if you so wish but I'd also have P.Geaney instead of D.Walsh simply because he's a shooter and that's what the team needs at the moment. 4 forwards who can split the posts from anywhere.

Not posted on here for a while but after watching that I feel annoyed and compelled to post here. I feel Eamonn did not cover himself in glory again today, on the big day. He got tactics right from the outset as we frustrated dublin and contained them. As the game unfolded eamonn and his team AGAIN were left wanting. The changes that were made were baffling. Griffin subbed ahead of Marc. Marc was beat well all day long. Brogan had him for pace all day. Taking crowley off? . Leaving the Gooch on in 2nd half when he clearly wasn't influencing things. We turned to the long ball which did not pay off once. How they left kealy. On. You could count on one hand the kick outs he got right. I know it's the league and we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water but jesus christ is deja vous. Agree with all of these comments. Too many times have we seen a lack of a plan B, by management, when things are not going our way. The persistent high ball option into an isolated Donaghy was unbelievable and frustrating to see. Id say the Dubs couldn't believe how easy Kerry made it for them with 20 minutes to go with predictable style of play. Dublin always looked like winning but boy did we make it easy for them towards the end. One other comment - I hope some players don't start to lose confidence in management. It's the first time I have seen any noticeable decent been shown by a player towards management for a while (Griffin towards Fitzmaurice on him been taken off)

And while I normally wouldn't agree with players showing dissent to management, I think Mark had a strong case to make...how Marc remained on the field while Peter Crowley, Fionn Fitz, Paul Murphy and Mark Griffin were taken off is beyond me. If I was in Mark Griffins boots, I think I would be pretty angry too.
Another charge to be laid at managements door...our kick out strategy ? Or maybe the lack of a strategy? Bit of a shakeup needed in the goalkeeping department.
Aidan left the team down yesterday...no other way to say it. I've always been a fan of his but deeply disappointed with yesterday. I don't think we would have won it anyway to be fair but Aidan's departure, opened the floodgates.
If Kieran was there still, he wouldn't get a free. And as someone else pointed out, what's going on with Tommy Walsh? If yesterday, in the second half 'strategy' of kicking the ball in high was not an opportunity to put him into the FF line, then when will be. If he's deemed not good enough, then shouldn't be on the bench either.
In the end though, you have to hand it to Dublin. Brilliant team performance, skill and strength combined and it's hard this morning to see anything other than the 2-in-a-row in September with more to follow.
On another note, the last team to subject us to a chorus of Olé was Meath...we came from that as they say.

Tomás Ó Sé: We will never beat Dublin if this failing system isn't overhauled quickly
I drove home from Croke Park with a storm raging inside my head last night because these Dubs have me half depressed. Making hard judgements on old team-mates isn't something that comes easy to me but, for Kerry to not perform again against this team just struck me as inexcusable. And it leaves me asking uncomfortable questions.
I thought that Kerry had learned tactically from last year's All-Ireland final, but Dublin are just so forceful and relentless in what they're doing, Kerry actually don't have the legs to stay with them.
How we were just a point behind when Aidan O'Mahony was sent off is a tribute to how hard the team worked. But, let's cut to the chase here. Dublin are on a different level.
The dismissal was foolish on Aidan's part, but he's been sailing close to the wind too often in my view. I know he's a bit of a marked man, but what he did was ridiculous, basically ending the game.
I thought Brendan Kealey was having a howler on his kick-outs long before he spooned one to Paul Flynn for Dublin's opening goal
Defensively, we tried to do our best, but my brother Marc wasn't at the races, Mahony wasn't at the races, Fionn Fitzgerald wasn't at the races.
We're playing Mahony as a sweeper and I don't think he's the man for that role. The system might work against 30 other counties, but it's against the Dubs you'll ultimately get measured.
And, against them, it's not fit for purpose. Worrying
Dublin just look so far ahead of everyone else, it's actually quite worrying now.
At the start yesterday, Marc and Peter Crowley were driving forward and I though we were going to have a real cut. But we stopped. 'Gooch' had been causing problems inside but we stopped putting ball in to him. Or, maybe more accurately, we weren't able.
The Dubs' back-line was outstanding, Jonny Cooper and Philly McMahon brilliant coming forward. James McCarthy is the best defender in the country today. He's gliding into position, but he has this bull strength that just stops an opponent in his tracks.
I think Dublin learned a big lesson in the 2014 All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Donegal. They were playing this lovely, pure attacking football at the time and got caught with sucker punches.
That was the day, I suspect, they came up with the role that Cian O'Sullivan now plays to virtual perfection. It means they still carry that same attacking threat, but they also have a defensive blanket that is so difficult to penetrate.
And Jim Gavin has this team exactly where he wants them now.
I saw Philly McMahon having an argument with one of the selectors and he was taken off in a flash. Diarmuid Connolly not going well? Off too. The Dubs have so many options, they can send out these messages to their players.
They got an impact from nearly everybody who went in off the bench. Between them, Kevin McManamon, Cormac Costello and Eric Lowndes kicked 1-3. Kerry just didn't have that kind of impact in reserve.
So we were fighting an uphill battle on so many levels. Our bale-out card, the height of David Moran, Bryan Sheehan and Kieran Donaghy under high ball, just never came into play. Overall, our kick-out strategy was a disaster.
But we were physically bossed too. Once yesterday, I saw Paul Mannion up-ending Sheehan to turn over ball. The Dubs have a nasty streak in them that I can only respect. Every time Ciaran Kilkenny did something well, he'd smash into Fitzgerald on the way back out the field, driving him back a few yards, every time.
He's not a dirty player, but he was leaving the kind of calling card I said last week that Kerry needed to start leaving
It's not all doom and gloom for Kerry, we did have a positive National League. But I felt disgusted going home because we just didn't answer any of the important questions.
One-on-one
The trouble is, we'd get away with this again in Munster. Now I'm not saying that the likes of Marc and Mahony are finished, but we simply cannot handle Dublin one-on-one.
It was never a close match in my view. Dublin's pace seemed to have us in trouble all over the field. I wouldn't say the race for Sam Maguire is over, it's just Dublin have every card marked.
Brian Fenton was terrific in midfield, Denis Bastick worked his socks off. Then Michael Darragh Macauley comes in. Where else would you get that? We certainly can't match it.
I would say one thing, the summer is long. But my worry is that Dublin will improve and that's the scary thing
If there is a positive for Kerry, it's that at least it happened now. I don't doubt that men like Marc and Mahony will be on a mission now to get back to Croke Park and prove a point.
But this is the best Dubs team of all time.
That's not just Kerry's problem. It's everybody's.

They are not fit. Second to every ball yesterday, ball in to the full forward line was only worse than the goalies kick outs. Despite this we were 2 points down with 15 to go. Then we gifted them 2 goals. I mean not moving to the ball one step to collect a kick out is just embarrassing nearly as embarrassing as Kerry supporters were leaving Croke Park yesterday.

By the way. Kicking hopeless high ball into KD marked by 3 men (same as September) is an insult to the Dublin defenders. Every ball they will inevitably win only gets a roar from the crowd and spurs the opposition on.

There is a real gulf in class between Dublin and every other team in the country and arguing over who is second best is pointless!
Kerry football always relied on having a higher skill set than other teams and so Kerry could afford to give a couple of yards to other teams with regard to fitness, strength and age. This Dublin team have it all, fitness, strength, youth and above all are very skilful and comfortable on the ball from 1 all the way through to 24!
For me something I found frustrating was Kerry's execution of basic skills. Players losing control of solos, hand passes not going into the chest of a team mate, kick passing not up to standard. With regard the hand passing, on too many occasions Kerry lost possession because hand passes weren't delivered in the chest, players having to jump, stretch and over reach to gather simple 10 yard passes. Kerry's transition from defence to attach was slow and labour some and as a previous comment alluded to, where have the attacking wing backs gone? Moran, Star and Sheehan were all taking too much out of the ball when move the Kerry 65 forward and a slow pace (I only watched the game on TV so this could have been to do with the forwards movement, some who was at the game could say more about this). Crowley and Griffin however injected speed into the transition.
As regard the midfield. Kerry's midfielders are all of the traditional type, big men with great fielding skills (strangely we did looses a lot of aerial battles) and lacking mobility. That describes all of Kerry's midfield options. In the last few meeting against Dublin this type of midfield has been rendered ineffective by simply moving them about the pitch in the way the Dublin kick outs do.
Finally as a comment mentioned earlier there is a lot to be said for the ruthless way Brian Cody operators. He keeps the team fresh and adds a new young championship calibre player or two every season at the expenses of multi all star winners, this can not be said in Kerry. In a Kerry a players are let retire when they feel like it, players are picked and kept on panels in the HOPE they might rekindle there youth. GAA athletes are now elite and athletes roughly reach their peak at 26 barring some exceptions.

I think you made some good points, except that all counties within gaelic football have older players on the team, it is not a phenomenon restricted to kerry. Also worth mentioning that kerry's kick outs may not have been as bad as you think. There are very few options to kick the ball out when you play dublin, unless you go short all the time. They are brilliant at closing down space, and if they win a kick out, they more than likely will score from it. This puts even more pressure on the keeper, who eventually hoofs it long in hope rather than expectation. I have to say the dubs look very strong indeed. But it is early days.

Maybe we don't have the players anymore. Fitzmaurice is a smart enough guy and if he is persisting with Marc, Mahony, Fionn and a few others maybe its just a sign the options we think we have aren't actually there.
We havent come out of Munster at U21 level in a long time so what exaclty is coming through. We are drip feeding players into the seniors but, the rate of this drip is either:
a) to slow to force the older and non performing players out b) these players arent good enough to force their way into the setup.
Added to that we have no real options in the squad. All the players are of the same type too.
I mean look at all out options for midfield. Donaghy,Moran,Buckely,Sheehan,Maher,Brendan O'Sullivan.
O'Sullivan is the only one that offers something different than a fetcher. At that we dont really know what he can do as we saw him so little during the league.
The only ones i thought that kind of played to or above their level yesterday were O'Brien and Darran in first half, Crowley and Paul Murphy. Its no coincidence that these lads have the pace and stamina to match Dublin.
Marc was skinned alive by Bernard who is no spring chicken himself. Donnachadh Walsh was poor as well. He has the stamina but not the speed. He will get there but if he gets there before his man is another story.
Are we carrying too many slow players to challenge Dublin? Forget everyone else its Dublin are the Benchmark. I think even based on yesterdays tactics and performance especially the 1st half intensity we would have beaten most other counties.
Is Mark Griffin an option for the middle of the park? You can afford to carry maybe one slow lad in the middle and he will be aided by his half forwards etc in tracking but we carry two in Moran and Donaghy. Throw in a Bryan Sheehan on top of that.
*By slow i mean in comparison to Dublin.

Yesterday was an embarrassment, simple as. Kerry are carrying too many passengers and shrinking violets. Plenty of big men and nice footballers around the middle but no hard streak in them, too soft.
Management did Marc a disservice by leaving him on, it was cruel. But his days as a man-marker were over 3 or 4 years ago. Mahony decided to put his own macho man agenda before anything else and contributed to the heavy loss. Donnchadh had his worst game for Kerry and should've been replaced by Mikey Geaney at half-time. Moran and Sheehan were anonymous and flaked around the place like ragdolls. Kealy was atrocious and while he derserved his All-Star last year I'll say it again, Kerry won't win an All-Ireland while he's number 1 and I make no apologies for stating that.
Our best scoring threat yesterday, Stephen O'Brien was taken off, wrongfully so. Griffin taken off, wrongfully so, and I was glad that he had a few words for Fitzmaurice. The man has been blackguarded over the last year or so.
Paul Geaney sitting on his arse somewhere while Tommy Walsh who has done nothing to merit a place on the panel gets a handy day out in Dublin.
Donaghy tried his best and was wronged on several occasions by Kinsella. There was nothing wrong with the ball he won towards the end of the first half which probably would've resulted in a score. He was fouled inside the square near the end, and it was blatant.
Crowley was immense and he's had a storming League campaign.
Serious changes required but I don't think we have the right men to make them unfortunately.
Ultimately though, Dublin have proper footballers in almost every position. The pace and power at which they move the ball is frightening. Congrats to them on a historic 4 in a row.

Very disappointing result, I honestly felt we'd give them a run for their money yesterday and if not victorious that it would be a tight margin. I watched the match with the Tyrone players who said they'd fancied Kerry to win. Up to yesterday March & Aidan were flying it, looking in great shape, yesterday not so much. Marc was seriously beaten from very early on. Aidan sails close to the wind anyhow but I'd expect with his experience he'd know better than to be sent off in such an important match. Yesterday we were supposed to be healing the hurt from September. Not one of Donnchadh's better days, Stephen & Paul Murphy played very well while I felt Peter Crowley was excellent. Star yet again got nothing from the ref and the constant high ball into him was totally futile, I felt the bench were slow to make changes again. Dublin were deserving winners, sadly I feel they may indeed be All Ireland Champions this year but my heart still belongs to Kerry so we live in hope of a championship resurgence.

O'Brien was our biggest threat inside and was a handful for the Dublin defence- could not believe he was replaced; at half time we should have withdrawn Marc & Fionn and possibly Kealy also- I have been a fan of Kealy's as a shot stopper but he had a day to forget yesterday and should not have seen out the match- his indecision in kicking out must be a nightmare for the midfielders- twice David Moran made 10/15 yard runs to to Cusack Stand side and each time he ignored him- surely we have a kickout strategy?? Regarding the subs wonder what has Kieran O'Leary accomplished since his return from injury to merit a recall?? We need to regroup and re energise the side- we have good footballers but unfortunately Father Time has caught up with a lot of them; lets restore Paul Murphy to the defence and place Crowely at 6 along with Killian Young at 7; Brian O'Beaglaoi will slot into corner back with Mark Griffin and Shane Enright; Maher if recovered sufficiently will partner David Moran @ midfield; hopefully Buckley will be fit come the summer along with Gooch, James, Stephen & Darran- add Paul Geaney to the full forward line and you have a team fit to compete- we had a free shot at Dublin yesterday, if we learn from it we will have a fighting chance.

I have spent the past hour or so writing my comments on the match and just as I was about to wind up a message comes up on the screen saying "dropped file" and it appears that my contribution has disappeared into the ether. I haven't the energy to start again. Is there anyway some IT wizard could retrieve my effort?

Fairly demoralising feeling today. Not a single positive can be taken from yesterday. Dublin put the gap between us on the scoreboard yesterday that they should have done also in September and it could have been worse had they moved out of 2nd / 3rd gear earlier. Fitter, stronger and better footballers all over. We will have to get used to playing second fiddle for the immediate future because they are just so far ahead. To be able to empty a bench with players who would be all star contenders if they were in another county. Marc will be having nightmares of BB for sometime to come I would say. I think Brendan Kealys had a couple of high profile days like yesterday now. No doubting his excellent shotstopping abilities but the kickouts are killing us. Mark Griffin needs to be moved out to centre back. Our distribution in the second half was woeful. I dont know if Donaghy was more frustrated with the ref or the ball into him. He was getting manhandled all game, what the bloody hell are the umpires there for? Anyway, its very much back to the drawing board and a good dose of reality after all the recent talk that we are closing the gap. Ref was very poor and was very much affected by the hill who behaved despicably. Cheering passes and then booing Kerry during the address at the presentation. No class whatsoever. Congratulations to Dublin and their largely proper supporting base but those neanderthals up in the terrace are nothing to be proud of our having documentaries on TG4 about.

Maybe it's a good thing this happened now. It would have been great to win but it is "only the league". The bar is set. We need to learn now for a possible semi final against Dublin in August. I'd agree with the changes by Greengold35. Management need to be ruthless.

Maher and Moran at midfield will not solve our problems. They are too slow as a pair. I would keep Murphy at center forward if possible. We will need two speedy players in the full forward line as well come summer so one would be james and the other would be Darran or O'Brien. If you want both Geaney and Gooch on the team one of them would have to be in the half forward line which again comes back to the issue of speed. A full forward line of O'Brien (based on yesterday), James and BJK would pose a nice balance of outright speed and firect running. James is also well able to spray the ball around if needs be. Murphy, Darran and Buckley maybe the half forward line. The only thing is the forward line as a unit is small apart from Buckley so teams would be looking to take us in the kickouts. But we arent winning kickouts (or own or opposition) anyway and the high ball in hasnt worked against dublin so we have nothing to lose.
