2 games yesterday and not a single card of any colour shown. When did that last happen? I commented to my mate watching the Kerry 'match' that there wasn't even a handbag thrown let alone a belt. Hard to believe at this stage of the championship. I was surprised to see Kerry so clinical. As bad as Kildare were we showed no mercy right to the final whistle. The biggest challenge to our troops yesterday was the threat of being replaced off the bench. So we played some exhilarating stuff and, apart from the Stephen O Brien show, managed to keep our powder dry. To nit pick I think that at times in the first half we were exposed down the middle in and around the 30 yard line. Kildare hadn't the wherewithal to capitalise but the bigger fish would love that scenario. So there's no doubt but we'll have to tighten up there. That said I can't recall any real threat to our goal and most of Kildare's efforts were of the long range variety. Isn't Paul Murphy a joy to watch? He has balls of steel. His ability to win the dirty ball is second to none. Of all the subs I was especially pleased for Darran and Tommy Walsh. In particular Walsh because he could be the difference in the engine room to replace tired limbs.

Great to see Paul Galvin back again. He makes getting the breaking ball look so easy. Why cant other players copy him. But it takes intelligence and courage, which Paul has plenty of. As I said previously, BJK does not appear to be a complete "team player" but OK as an impact sub.

BJK is definitely coming along, but I've seen him take some unnecessary pop shots.. Definitely improving, but still a good bit of learning to do I think..

We played beautiful football today,at times and some of it was a pleasure to witness. Colm Cooper's movement off the ball, creating space for others, his vision, his passing was sublime. David Moran was imperious, Maher was brilliant, yet again. Stephen O Brien made hay when his man dropped off him to play sweeper. Kildare didn't pick him up and he made them pay. He kicked some nice scores on the run. I thought that Jameso got absolutely nothing from the referee as long as he was on the pitch, penalty decision aside. I felt that he was being pulled and dragged constantly, his marker, Ollie Lyons had hold of his arm or hand all through. Maybe Brolly's constant carping on RTE is affecting decisions made by referees? I thought that Bryan Sheehan found the open spaces in Croke Park too much,at times and in future, opponents may look to expose this. Tommy caught savage ball when he came on and delivered it well. It's probably a lack of pace that's keeping him out of the team? He certainly put his hand up today,as did Darran. Kildare were awful, they went 1 on 1 with Gooch inside! Apart from Eoin Doyle who fought valiantly,a lot of heads dropped and players went MIA. Not a good day for players or management. I'm not sure about the Donaghy injury. At half time,O Sullivan was interviewed on radio and he said that Donaghy picked up an injury last night during a kick around. Later on,Eamon said that he picked up the injury on Thursday evening. Am I reading too much into it? Anyway,we roll on again in 3 weeks time. It's great to be a kerry supporter,so much to look forward to every year! I thought the same about James before he went off. It was quite blatant at times and it was let go by David Coldrick. When James went down injured, he signalled at once for medical help. Yet the play was allowed to go on for some considerable time, even though the medics came on and it was clear, even viewing it from the stands that the injury was serious. I thought that more than a little strange. I hadn't anticipated the avalanche of goals. After Donnacha broke the duck I thought we'd get 2 maybe 3 at most. Certainly nothing like what followed. Nice to see David Moran follow his father and captain Kerry, albeit for a day. It was a strange day out and certainly nothing like I'd anticipated. The nice seats are great Sully but I think this may have been a one off so I'll be back to earth for Aug 23!

Joe Brolly can't have it both ways. A few years ago he castigated Sean Cavanagh for bringing down McManus from Monaghan in 2013. He decried the tackle and called Cavanagh's honour as a man into question. Yesterday he actually lauded Kerry's defensive "ruthlessness" against Kildare, showing as an example Killian Young's tackle on a Kildare player going through on the Kerry goal. The tackle consisted of a simple bringing down. Kildare got a free with no card being shown. I am from Kerry but would love to know what is the difference. The lack of clear rules and their inconsistent application from referees is slowly choking the game to death.

Dunno what else he could have done. Saw that re: O'Brien. He must have reinforced the glass house, but maybe it was still a good thing as in "yeah I fcuked up against Cork, I know that, and yeah we're hammering Kildare but a goal was on there...you should have laid it off" - impressive ruthlessness if true.

It's another example of Brolly giving signals to refs.

A game with a total of no cards, 7-23 scored from play and just 3 points from frees; Brolly's contribution afterwards consists of highlighting a single bogstandard foul. Brought it up twice in fact. What a b*llix!

Hmmm, since when did x-rays highlight anything that wasn't related to a bone. The dislocation was ligaments, tendons and musculature, stuff of the MRI. The good news I suppose is the press release in that confidence must be high enough he'll be fine. I can't see any good to be attained from spreading falsities.

It was his right knee he damaged. I thought that tackle yesterday affected his left leg? You might be right but the sight of him hobbling was enough to scare me. Very true! You're not wrong there

I thought that Bryan Sheehan found the open spaces in Croke Park too much,at times and in future, opponents may look to expose this. Sheehan is a worry at CHF alrite. i would think sheehan would probably be best used as a midfield substitute. if you were an opposing manager you'd obviously get sheehan's man to run everytime he got the ball. if buckley recovers form i'd still opt for him at CHF. bit naive too from kildare leaving stephen o'brien (or any wing forward) free so they could play a sweeper. surely when you know your opponent is better than you, you'd pick one less forward and play the extra back as the sweeper, hence free man is probably a corner back and the other team would probably use him as their sweeper when free. I don't think he was meant to be free although it seemed like it! It seemed to me like McNally, who was down at 15, was meant to be picking up Stephen O'Brien. At least that's how they seemed to line up at kick-outs etc... Presumably he was the forward that O'Mahony was meant to be picking up but O'Mahony was sweeper. Donnchadh moved across to 10 to mark Bolton and Murnaghan, who should have then been marking Stephen O'Brien, played sweeper for Kildare with McNally picking up O'Brien. Or not as the case may be!

I take the point on Bryan Sheehan. But are we taking a risk dropping him especially against Northern opposition in a semi? If he is dropped those "crafty" Monaghan/Tyrone lads will do a bit of tactical fouling on the 50 knowing there's no danger of a free being converted.

I guess management will have to weigh up the pro's and cons. Buckley and Moran are options on ground frees, obviously without Sheehan's range. Sheehan then, while offering a lot, would be a possible defensive weakness compared to Buckley. Tough call

Any doubts that may have existed that Brollys has an anti Kerry at the moment can be put to one side after yesterday. He is not to be underestimated. He filleted Mayo prior to the 2012 final and Mayo couldn't buy a free in that game.
His rage against Cavanagh was enough to have the black card introduced.
He is very articulate and persuasive and TV influences opinion like nothing else.

Deep sigh of satisfation - job done, QF hurdle cleared. Reality now - nothing won and unfortunaely little learnt as the opposition did little to challenge us in any area of the field. Need to keep feet firmly on the ground - all too often teams that produce big wins fall themselves shortly thereafter. We beat a division 3 side who beat a Cork side that is in turmoil. Three weeks to get our feet firmly grounded and focussed on our next hurdle - a Northern team in the latter stages of the championship. A totally different proposition - they will hunt, harry and hit at every twist and turn. We need such a game and we must focus to get to our ultimate goal - the third Sunday in September.

Alot of people around the country are swayed by his opinions. Even the Cork County Board it seems. That whole "we was robbed" issue would never have gotten legs but for him. Even O'Rourke couldn't shut him up.

Sheehan was poor yesterday but the points you make are very valid, even moreso now given that we put 7 goals away! The teams left will take the foul rather than risk the net rattling. It's not like Buckley is much faster than Sheehan! If at all. Geaney may well lose his place provided JOD is fit, Eamon probably won't want to make too many other changes given that we have a settled team now.

Sheehan and Buckley may not be much different in a straight race. Buckley however is willing to track his man until he's showered and ready to go home, that and he has more stamina than Sheehan. I don't think you could really compare the defensive work of the two at all to be honest.

Congratulations to the Kerry team and Management.
Awesome performance, even if i do feel sorry that it had to be Kildare on the receiving end of such humiliation. On it's own merits, it was just a brilliant display of all the footballing skills from Kerry - one for the memory bank.

No need to fret O.K, Adidas are sponsoring a one off Championship 2015 shoe for Fitzmaurice. Not the most attractive shoe but they're for work, very dull grey, think their branded 'screed' or 'cement'. Fit for purpose.

I don't think you could really compare the defensive work of the two at all to be honest. Key point, Johnny carries two different shower he samples onto the pitch to cater for curve ball opponents. Sheehan wasn't great yesterday but he has played well in Croke Park in big games, Dubs 2011, that is a few years ago admittedly. He was good both days against Cork. So let's not throw out the baby, yet anyway.I don't think it's a given Paul Geaney will be benched at all. Yes quiet yesterday and couple of mistakes but he's likely a forward we need with good all round skills and a bit of bite against either Tyrone or Monaghan. If we were to pick based on 'last day's' performance before Kildare Stevie O would have been selling programmes under the Cusack. The points on Sheehan's lack of pace are still well made. What do you do? In a potentially tighter game with more frees you want the scores all day. To facilitate then you have to counteract and plan for the vulnerabilities. We'll see how she rolls...

Horses for courses. O' Brien had arguably his best game for Kerry in the league game last year above in Newbridge. Kildare couldn't handle him. It's funny how history repeats. Delighted for O'Brien the last day.

As I said previously, BJK does not appear to be a complete "team player" but OK as an impact sub. Whatever Eamonn will take from this game is one thing but it must surely make other Managers worry about the last 20/25 minutes of a game against Kerry. It is not that they are bringing on fresh, experienced guys who are dying to impress but they are bringing on a different system of play. Nobody wants to be behind this Kerry team with 20 minutes to go because Plan B can be very destructive. Regarding Brigids comment about Keane..as Sylvester would say “the stats don’t lie”. Kerry have used 12 or 13 forwards in the 2015 championship to date...all getting different amounts of time on the field. Keane has probably got less time than most and yet has the second best score from play (2-07) just behind Paul Geaney. Regarding passing to O’Brien near the end when taking his point....you didn’t mention that Gooch had a player on his shoulder for a goal chance but decided to punch over the bar....this was not considered selfish but compassionate.

Kerry forward Stephen O'Brien has won this week's GAA.ie Football Player of the Week award, finishing ahead of Colm McFadden and Bernard Brogan in our weekly vote. O'Brien was one of many outstanding Kerry performers in their huge victory over Kildare on Sunday, but crucially he did most of his best work when the game was still somewhat in the balance in the first half. The Kenmare man polled 37 per cent of the vote on the GAA's official Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, just ahead of McFadden and Brogan. *** GAA.ie FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK RESULTS 1. Stephen O'Brien (Kerry) - 3,139 votes (37 per cent) 2. Colm McFadden (Donegal) - 2,809 votes (34 per cent) 3. Bernard Brogan (Dublin) - 2,402 votes (30 per cent) *** Éamonn Fitzmaurice dropped Stephen O'Brien for the Munster final replay win over Cork, and when reinstated for the match against Kildare, the 24-year-old set about justifying his selection. Although the floodgates eventually opened for Kerry in the second half, it was in the first half that O'Brien led the charge for the Kingdom, causing havoc down the left for Kerry and kicking four lovely points from play. His second half goal was the cherry on top of his best display in a Kerry jersey to date. In second place was Colm McFadden. Since McFadden's inspirational season of 2012, he has blown both hot and cold for Donegal. It has been mostly hot this season, and he was an inferno for Donegal on Saturday against Galway, kicking four points, three from play, and playing a central role in all three Donegal goals. His pass to Michael Murphy for Ryan McHugh's goal was sublime. In third place was Bernard Brogan. Now 31, Brogan is one of the oldest players on the Dublin team, but he is having a fantastic season. He has hit a remarkable 5-16 from play in four championship games this summer - an average haul from play of more than 1-4 per game. He weighed in with 1-6 from play in Dublin's win over Fermanagh, and given his history of saving his best form for August and September, it's scary to think what he might achieve over the next six weeks. *** Players of the Week are decided based on votes cast by followers of @officialgaa on Twitter, on the Official GAA Facebook Page and on the Official GAA Instagram page
