There's a suggestion on another thread that it might not be Fermanagh or Westmeath; that it could yet be Kildare (but not Cork as we've played them last). I had thought it was definately Fermanagh/Westmeath.
Can anyone clarify ?

My understanding is that it will be Kildare of they beat Cork --- provided Fermanagh beat Westmeath.
I am not sure if this confusion for management, players and fans is worth having in order to avoid repeat fixtures.

Still confused. Is there to be a draw among the R4A winners to play us and Dublin or what?

Still confused. Is there to be a draw among the R4A winners to play us and Dublin or what? No draw needed. The intent is to avoid a repeat of previous fixtures and if previous fixtures cannot be avoided (as would be the case for Dublin if both Westmeath & Kildare win) then avoiding a repeat of the Provincial Final takes precedence. So if both Westmeath & Kildare win then we play Westmeath (as Dublin played Westmeath in the Leinster Final and Kildare in an earlier round), if Kildare and Fermanagh win then we play Kildare (as Dublin have played them previously0 and if Cork win then we play the winners of Fermanagh/Westmeath. I THINK

That is my broad understanding but is it intended to not having a rematch of provincial final and does not go back to clashes before that??

Not sure if following helps from gaa .ie
*Draw is subject to provincial final winners avoiding defeated finalists from their own province in this round and to the avoidance of repeat pairings where possible.

Lads, would I be right in saying the winners of Kerry v (Fermanagh/Westmeath or Kildare) would go into semi-final 1 on August 23rd. Not getting ahead of myself now or anything but will be home in Ireland that week so fingers crossed if we do the business in quarter it'll be that Sunday. I think it's Munster v Ulster Aug 23rd and Leinster v Connacht Aug 30th. Can anyone please confirm?

Will be at a music festival in Dun Laoghaire that weekend so plans came together very nicely. Will travel up Saturday enjoy the festival, then head to the match and the festival after on Sunday. It's a Bank holiday Monday, so major rush to aim my car homeward bound. I don't mind saying it, but that's how to do a weekend.

"The All-Ireland quarter-final draw is subject to provincial final winners avoiding defeated finalists from their own province in this round and to the avoidance of repeat pairings where possible"
So if Kildare beat Cork and Westmeath beat Fermanagh we play Kildare because Kildare v Dublin would be a repeat pairing?

No we'd play Westmeath and Dubs would play Kildare to avoid repeat of Leinster Final.

I understand that in this case we play Westmeath because Dublin met them more recently. If Kildare and Fermanagh win we play Kildare.

If Kildare and Fermanagh win, there will be a draw for who plays Kerry and Dublin. One of these sides losing will mean the default setting of not allowing provincial finals being repeated
So
Kildare and Fermanagh win then there is a draw Kildare and Westmeath win then Kerry play Westmeath, Dublin play Kildare
Cork and Fermanagh win then Kerry play Fermanagh, Dublin play Cork Cork and Westmeath win then Kerry play Westmeath, Dublin play Cork

1. If Cork and Fermanagh win its Kerry V Fermanagh and Cork V Dublin
2. If Cork and Westmeath win its Kerry V Westmeath and Cork V Dublin
3. If Kildare and Westmeath win it is Kerry V Westmeath and Dublin V Kildare (Dubs have played both Westmeath and Kildare but no repeat of provincial final is priority)
4. If Kildare and Fermanagh win it is Kerry V Kildare and Dublin V Fermanagh (as Dubs have already played Kildare)

Midfield was key for Kildare tonight - they utterly destroyed Cork here - the amount of ball Kildare won on both their own and on Cork's kickouts was huge.
