Funnily enough I always thought JOC teams could be a little bit suspect coming down the stretch with a lead in a tight game. Even the minor final in '14 they should have closed it out but ended up having to be saved by the woodwork in the dying seconds.
In saying that, Jack impresses me like no other with how he seems to learn more and more with every year in charge of a team. Not many managers seem to get consistently better over time, but Jack does appear to.

rumours around killarney this morning that Andrew Barry is out with an ankle inury. Big loss if true. I heard another player down to start is out. Maybe that's the reason for naming 26 for the programme. Only 24 can be togged on the night I believe.

Looking forward to the game and hoping the weather is not too unkind allowing for a good game. Young team but they have a lot of success behind them already - something that can be a great help in tight situations. Here's hoping..

I don't how fit Mark O'Connor and Matt Flaherty would not be surprised if one of them did not start. If Mark O'Connor is out Eanna Ó Conchúir or Greg Horan could go to midfield. Andrew Barry is a big loss. Cormac Coffey is another guy who has been injured for a while. Dan O'Donoghue might get the start. What's the story with Cathal O'Luing not even on the bench. Brian Sugrue is a big loss too was playing well. Greg Horan might start at no.6 too. David Foran might also start at wing forward or wing back.

On a side note too that Michael O'Donnell from stacks very good footballer. Has had a tough time with injuries the last couple of years. He would have been a Kerry minor for sure last year only for injuries. I saw him playing for Stacks against Crokes this year in the League and he was very good.

Just on Cormac Coffey. He played a full game for Strand Road against Legion a couple of weeks ago and was very good throughout so I would have thought he would have the most of a game in him if he hasn't had a set back since.

rumours around killarney this morning that Andrew Barry is out with an ankle inury. Big loss if true. Seems its true which will mean a reshuffle- likely to see O'Beaglaoich to 6 with Dan O'Donoghue or Tom Leo to corner back; taking a big gamble on both midfielders regarding their levels of fitness especially Mark O'Connor- would expect that he will stay in the middle without travelling too much; Eanna brought in to bring a bit of life to the half forward line. We have a game on our hands and maybe our injury list will ultimately be our undoing- however, we are at home and if we can start well we have it in us to secure a famous win- best of luck to Jack and the lads- hope the cup will be in Strand Rd later tonight!

Jeez burns and Spillane are extremely limited when making snap decisions under pressure. Savage is keeping Kerry in this to a worrying degree. Backs way too open- set up poorly enough and gettin exposed to no real fault of their own.

Corks first half performance won this for them, they dominated around the middle & the fact that their number 8 got man of the match tells its own story. Mark o connor looked like a man that needed games, even though he did get a good goal & theres no doubting his ability but he did look off the pace. The kerry half forward line was also under pressure & the cork half backs ran riot in the first half. The extra years strength of the cork lads told & this was really evident when they kicked the ball into the full forward Kelliher who's a big target man. I thought that Matthew Flaherty, Tom o Sullivan, dara Roche, Barry o Sullivan in the second half & greg Horan when introduced played well. Jack savage , micheal burns & Killian Spillane were just ok but maybe people are expecting too much from them. If they can keep injury free I'd expect them to win it next year but in my opinion I think the extra year in age & physicallity of the cork lads caught them out . It's hard to know if jack Barry would have made a difference but for me cork shaded it slightly.

Report from the Irish Times newspaper (2013) Tyrone’s stubborn refusal to accept defeat earned them a sensational extra-time win in yesterday’s All-Ireland MFC semi-final at Croke Park. They were trailing by a point and down to 13 men in stoppage time, but Stephen McGrath’s leveller earned them a reprieve, and they got the better of a wasteful Kerry side in the extended 20 minutes. But as we see from last night - three years ago is history and says little about the current prospoects. Although Mickey Ned came within a whisker of getting to a minor final, the question is relevant, would Jack O'Connor have got them over the line in 2013 as the first leg of a three in a row? Tyrone game was 1/4 final. Kerry u21 players should be proud of their efforts getting back into tonight's u21 game after gifting Cork a 6 point lead with Kerry dominating the majority of last 40 minutes. A lot of these players will hopefully win a good few All Irelands at senior level with Kerry, but need to start blooding a few at senior level. Jack Savage overage for u21 and not eligible for junior, he has been standout forward for Kerry u21 over last couple of years so deserves a run with seniors.

Conor Keane surely would have added to this team, puzzling how he didn't feature this year especially after playing the previous 3 years for our u21s. Obviously the face didn't fit
Having only a handful of players on the panel was a huge error in judgement too. It seemed that it was almost a black mark against you if you were in your final year of u21 and hadn't won a minor medal. 12 extra months at that age is huge. Obviously it'll bode well and stand to the young lads for next year but 3-4 physically stronger older lads would have added to this panel. The likes of Conor Jordan an established player for stacks.
After all the minor team of 3 years ago won the Munster title, surely more than 2-3 can progress onto play u21

The game should have been a draw Cork got a point in the first half that was a yard wide. Great effort by the boys 2nite they all did the jersey proud and will come back stronger next year. i thought the ref blew too early at the end also. the lad coffey flattened was on the ground for about a minute. Cork won by default

Very disappointing again at u21 Level. Jack made a few mistakes. Mark O'Connor was not ready for this game he had very little ball played. He was away too slow to make changes in the first half. Cork were running through us at will. Nobody was coming out to hit em a belt of a shoulder on the way in. Cork were dominating and he did nothing. Apart from Jack Savage and Matt Flaherty everybody else was struggling. I think if he changed it around earlier and made some positional changes it might had been different. Andrew Barry was a big loss in the middle for Kerry. Cork kicked some really bad wides they could have been further ahead if they had scored them. Kerry have not played well in any game in Munster this year. Struggled against Limerick and Tipp. When you are struggling to beat a team like Limerick then that's a bad omen. I think we expected more from Jack this year after the Minor victories but I think he struggled this year with team selections and tactics. Not a good year for him.

I think we expected more from Jack this year after the Minor victories but I think he struggled this year with team selections and tactics. Not a good year for him. Criticism of JO'C here is unwarranted and over the top in my opinion; we lost a cracking game by a point and with a little bit of luck and better finishing would have been victorious on the night- we took one of four goal chances on offer ( Burns, Roche & Spillane the others), we had 3 bad wides late in the first half and 3 wides again when chasing the game in the last 10 mins; Cork's third goal was against the run of play as we were dominant in the final 15 minutes. Regarding changes, Jack's hand was limited given the awful run of injuries we endured this year; Mark O'Connor was certainly not match fit given his long lay off but what other options had we? Liam Kearney is a long term absentee, Matthew O'Sullivan also injured and Greg Horan just did not perform when previously given his opportunity- Jack gambled on Mark to get maybe 40 mins from him and who could blame him? I dont know of any other options- maybe Michael O'Donnell of Stacks was worth a try but who knows? The loss of Andrew Barry prior to the game and the loss of Brian O'Beaglaoich for the final 20 mins was just a bridge too far- add in the other absentees and I think Jack has done a good job. We are lucky to have a coach like Jack- it was he who brought EF on board and this year he has added Declan to his coaching staff- Declan is another future manager and will have gained from this experience; outside of Jack & Eamon I do not see any great potential managers around the county bar Maurice Fitzgerald given his run with St Marys this year.

Well said. Kerry gave away a year a man, a stone a man, had lots of injuries, had very little experience at this level, (certainly zero winning experience prior to this year), gave an experienced Cork team with 4 senior players a 6 point head start and still nearly won.

Left the gorunds last night a little deflated after the loss and as with any close game was ponderdering about the what iff's.. On reflection I think the team and management did a great job in the face of major adversity in this campaign. They were plagued with injuries from the outset and trying to prepare an U21 team with the bulk of your players away from the county adds to the difficulty. When the two Cork goals against the wind in the first half left us trailing by six I feared the worst. It was a great testament to the players the way they battled back to go ahead only to go behind to another sucker blow - again they rallied and got level with the game almost up. The final Cork point was probably a fair reflection on their performance on the night but I think the kerry lads deserve great credit and hopefully with 12 of the starting team still eligible next year we will get a better run (and less injuries). Well done and proud of the effort.
