The minors are so well coached. The patience they've shown in every game so far to find the gaps is very admirable for young lads.

as someone who doesn't get to see minor matches I was just curious if Kerry play a traditional formation or do they utilise a sweeper?

Repeat of the Munster Final with Tipp beating Kildare today. Some achievement by Tipp to be in two minor finals this year having already made the hurling. Also a great achievement getting teams to both the minor and u21 football finals - they are really reaping the rewards of investing in their development squads. Kerry will ned to forget the Munster final victory and give Tipp the respect they deserve - no better man than JOC to do this.

It is a long time since I have seen a selection play so much as individuals rather than as a team as witnessed from Kildare today. On several occasions players running into space were ingnored while glory hunters soloed into oblivion. There should of course be a an inquiry into where Kildare's extra man disappeared.
As I have said before ,those counties who moan about resources, the championship structure etc would do well to look at Tipperary. They have reached a minor and u21 final. All that achieved by a county with hurling as their main love.
Kerry supporters should not become too complacent reflecting on our win over Tipp in the Munster final. They were shell shocked by the concession of two early goals. My memory is that they significantly improved in the second half and , unless I am mistaken, they outscored us in that half. I get the feeling that our team is better balanced while their five or six top players are possibly better than our five or six top players. Either way, this title is not in the bag.

The Tipp minor footballers beat Galway in the QF. 8 of them are on the Tipp minor hurling panel that reached the final yesterday and 5 were playing I think. savage achievement

Very hard to beat the same team twice in the one championship. Just ask the Kerry ladies or the Cork footballers.

Minor Championship began in 1929 and Kerry lead the roll of honour with 12 titles - they have also lost in the final 12 times meaning this is their 25th year in the final. Tipperary have two titles but only won one final - they were awarded the 1934 title when the other two semi finalists were disqualified. They have lost in three finals. Five counties have won back to back (doubles) minor titles - Kerry, Dublin, Tyrone, Cavan & Laois and three have won 3 in a row - Kerry, Dublin & Cork.

On the topic of records - this is the third time that Tipp have contested both the football and hurling minor AI final in the same year - amazing when you consider its only their 5th football final. In 1934 they won the hurling and were awarded the football by w/o, 1935 they lost both finals and in 1955 they won the hurling and lost the football. Five counties have contested both football and huring minor finals in the same year - Cork (8), Dublin (5), Tipp (3), Galway (2) & Offaly (1)

Over the two games on Sunday, the most important and most successful substitution was that of Stephen Quirke for Tipperary. Ostensibly, he replaced a corner-forward, but he ranged across the whole forward line showing a range of skills and depth of maturity not often seen at Minor level. He appeared to be one of those rare players who just does the right thing at any given moment. What impressed me most was his off-the-ball movement, utilising the full acreage of Croke Park. (I think he must be watching videos of Donnchadh Walsh).
This guy did not play in the Munster Final in Killarney.
Just a note of caution for anybody who may feel that, given we have already beaten them, we are looking at a rare Two in a Row in Minor.

I overheard a conversation not so long ago where the star minor of another team was being discussed. The manager said that "he plays like the Kerry lads."

This is a very good minor team, so well organised even a bit mechanical but Tipp will take it to them. Andrew Barry at CHB Jack Morgan and Barrett on the wings is a serious half back line and I expect them to set the platform for the 1st win of the day.

In the Munster Final, Tipperarys strongest line seemed to be their half-forward line so I suspect Morgan coming out may be a tatical change. All three players in the Kerry half-back line were involved last year.

Tremendous performance by the minors. Tipp very disappointing. It's a shame jack won't get the chance to go for the three in a row.

It was very kind of the Tipp keeper to keep kicking it in his direction but this display by Mark OConnor must go down as the finest seen at Croke Prk at minor level...well since Jacko in 1975 anyway.
The hallmarks of Jack are everywhere. A hard working half forward line, classy full forward line and it looks like we have finally unearthed a natural fullback.
Well done to Jack and delighted that Declan is involved too. It looks like Cork were the second best team at minor level this year......

Real final was played in Tralee last Spring when Cork came to town - great year for this team and a magnificent performance. Can the County Board deny JOC the chance to do three in a row - a rare feat not done in 50 years by any county and 80 years by Kerry.

The only silver lining on a tough weekend for our seniors was this magnificent win by our minors. What a performance! After waiting for over 20 years we now have back-to-back wins, thanks in a large part to Jack O'Connor. Well done to the Kerry minor team and management! Up the Kingdom!

A truly brilliant display from the Minors. If we can build on this and last year's victories we will be a formidable force to recon with well into the future.

Is there any chance he could manage both - or perhaps Declan could be given a shot under his guidance?

Kerry were excellent yesterday.
And Tipp were awful.
Simple as that.
Will add fuel to the existing debate in our county over the role of the dual player.
I like both games but,as they say,if you want to hurl you have to hurl.

The development squad system we have in Kerry is really beginning to bear fruit now. We were a bit behind the curve but thankfully the powers that be saw that and now we are producing great players and great teams year on year. Next years minors will be a formidable outfit as well under new management - Sean Sullivan I assume???
Mark O'Connor and Conor geaney are some prospects. All ireland minors, hogan cups, county championships with dingle... do they know anything but success?
Jason Foley also looks to be one for the kerry seniors in years to come. An under 21 title or two over the next few years would do very nicely for these fellas development.
it sort of reminds me of the quality of player coming out of minor in the early 90's. albeit with only the 94 win to their name. 3 u21 titles over the following few years fed some great players into our senior team.
The difference being that this time our seniors are already competitive. drip feeding a few of these starlets into the squad year on year will help counteract the imminent loss of the mahoney's, marc se's, donaghy's, gooch etc.
Despite yesterdays senior loss there is a lot to look forward to for Kerry football.
